Why everything take so long in Dead By Daylight?
Why do we have to wait many months or even years for fundamental changes like Search Bar, New Game-modes and obvious addons changes like Mother Daughter Ring or Blight's Addons? For example Mother Daughter Ring needs a tweak in just numbers. Why we need to wait so long to all obvious changes like that? Bubba still has a Tantrum bug and he can not use his Chainsaw anymore. His acceleration doesn't work correct. Spirit got a lot of bugs in previous Bug Fix. Why D/C Tier Killers can not receive a simple changes? BHVR has a diamond in their hands and this diamond is DBD, but they want to destroy it I think... They can make this game 50 times better in 1 month I bet... I just don't understand... They will buff billy... in 2024?? Why everything takes so long?

It's always been that way.
It's not really acceptable, imo, but there's not really anything we can do about it.
As with any business, BHVR are allocating their resources in a way that maximizes profits. Itβs not evil or nefarious, just the way business works. As long as people keep playing the game and spending money, BHVR are going to focus resources in new content (chapters and cosmetics). They will put minimal or no effort into all other things unless people stop playing the game because something is not being worked on.
Also, for the past 7 years, there has been no serious competitor for this game. So even if people are frustrated with the game, they will keep (reluctantly) playing. If a serious competitor ever arises, BHVR will have to do a lot more to put resources into things that people are asking for.
Things take timeπ
Because of all the bugfixes that introduce new bugs obviously smh...
Their coding does seem to be a beast to deal with, for us and for them.
From what I understand they're only allowed so much bandwidth per update (they've brought that up multiple times) and at least on console they also have to pay to update the game; unless that's changed sometime in the past which someone please feel free to correct me on.
That means that say they have 100 things they want to change, only 10 will fit in the update so they have to pick and choose what's important. That number also gets lower with bug fixes and stuff like that.
If I had to guess, I bet they have things ready to ship but have to wait until they can find a patch to put it in.
I'd also wager the higher ups will only allow so many patches to go out in a certain timeframe to keep costs low but that's speculation.
Its what I've been able to gather anyway with how they've talked about it in the past.
After the Q&A, I have a theory it's because of how far in advance they're working. Off the top of my head, they said a chapter could take 6 months for map creation and something like 11 months to create a killer and power.
This makes sense, when the recent maps have been quite cluttered, yet because they were planned so far in advance there was not enough time to adjust, which is why things are adjusted a fair way along the line.
There's a bit more empathy towards the process now. They could do it faster and indeed the Q&A implies they're hoping to be quicker, but I do appreciate the situation more.
Understandable as long as they don't crunch. But after 7 years, the focus on revisiting old content should be as important as creating new one, and the Q&A make it it is currently not the case. Bad.
Interesting. Thanks for explaining.
There must also be a tremendous amount of reporting in the background.
For instance, because of the killing / winning rate they stated why they don't want to focus on adjusting various killers such as Trapper. What some of us perceive important can be very different for them.

it makes no money. so it makes sense. over-time though, I do feel that in few years, they should consider slowing down content and work more on polish. there is certain point where there is enough content and polish might be produce greater player satisfaction.
I'm pretty sure BHVR has a lot a lot of bureaucracy and meetings and data analysis before they commit to anything at all.
BHVR is a small indie company that's why.
Too bad they don't even do it right the first time. Look at how pretty much every map change they have done lately except eyrie of crows has been god awful.
It might have something to do with BHVR's strategy to do so many things at once. From the AMA on Reddit it is pretty clear that they don't focus on one thing at a time but spread their ressources pretty thin. I'm not sure, if this is the best strategy but it is how BHVR operate.
