wait a damn minute.... self care is still top?

So bhvr released a 6.1.0 stat for the new changes and for survivors the top 3 perks were self care dead hard and windows of opportunity

After these perks were prove thyself sprint burnt boon CoH off the record etc

I expect prove thyself CoH and off the record top and then WoF sprint burst dead hard.

AND SELF CARE LAST

Even if you use botany or anything that increases your healing speed the self care speed is absolutely dogshit

And now that botany kills your medkit charges it's kinda useless plus that they removed efficiency from self care too

So why is it top 1?

  • The stats have been taken from the last 30 days. Mostly self-care has been used a lot because of the most recent challenge that requires you to run self-care, heal 1 time and escape.

  • IT's a combination of the data being taken during a tome that has self-care challenges and non-English speaking regions having self-care as part of their meta.

  • The usage rate for perks is not universal. While Self-Care may not be popular in North America or the EU, it has been a part of the meta (and continues to be) in other regions. If you're from the former and you think it's not very popular, you're absolutely right: The usage rate comes mostly from other regions of the world. When each region gets matched separately, different metas tend to emerge.

But also keep in mind that there is currently a Tome challenge that requires Self-Care, so the usage rate will be a little higher than usual.

It's also a regional thing, apparently Self Care is very popular in non-English speaking countries. Probably because it's the most flexible, least risk averse healing method, even though it's also the slowest.

  • You gotta remember DBD is played globally and the devs official stats take that into account. Now I would like to see some regional stats though.

  • I honestly can't imagine sc being meta in any "serious" game anymore. Any region. Not even with botany.

    I could be wrong.

  • I still see people using Self Care against Legion.... there are still a lot of new players here obviously.

  • Wait how can a perk IN A VIDEO GAME depend on the region you playing?

Every single player of this game knows the meta

I dont understand why the region is a thing

Quite simply, what the meta is in one region is not the meta in another region...differing playstyles across regions is something that is in many different games. There's some interesting articles out there on the cultural differences in gaming which really applies here.

Every region is separated by matchmaking so people don't end up with crazy high ping. This essentially isolates each region, giving the opportunity for different metas to form. Beyond that, there are cultural differences all around the world that change the way people play and interact with others. Some places are more altruistic, some less. Some are more competitive, others more casual. Even something as simple as a popular content creator making a video about a certain perk can influence its popularity, and naturally an English content creator will reach an English audience more than any other language/region.

All these things combine to create separate playstyles and meta. Something like Self-Care may not be as popular here because it's more common to be altruistic, meanwhile other people may have optimized their playstyles and builds to be more self sufficient.

  • I've heard that in some regions DBD is much more slower-paced. Stealth is meta for survivors and the killer is spending a lot more time looking for survs. In a slower-paced game Self-Care does make a lot more sense.

Over here the meta is generally one person getting chased while 3 people bang out gens as fast as possible, Self-Care doesn't really work in that kinda meta.

  • I guess it also has a lot to do with the fact that it's from a free character that readily available for any newish player. If as anl new player I have concerns about being able to heal myself and still not have an ample supply of good medkits and addons, I would most definitely turn my eye to self care and bring it as insurance.

This is because some survivors don't pay attention. I've seen more than a dozen survivors run to a corner and self care. It takes like three minutes now. Worst perk in the game. However, I'm betting anyone that is new and any returning player that hasn't paid any attention will have no clue that it changed so much. Search for best perks on YouTube and the old outdated videos are going to tell you to get self care over and over and over again.

This is a perfect example of why these stats mean absolutely nothing. They aren't giving us the full data, just the numbers that they can easily spin to prove their personal points. Stats they can use to show the money men that they did what they wanted to do, even though I believe it lost them at least 25% of their customers.
