Every change on the PTB to everything [Very long post!!]

part 1

Hey, it's ya boi GoodBoyKaru, and in case patch notes aren't your best friend I'm here to make an educational post about every change made on the PTB for Update 5.3.0. Also useful if you need images or gifs for demonstration purposes! Furthermore, I'll be including the new survivor as well as her perks and backstory.

Yes, I've copied a lot of these words directly from the patch notes. No, I'm not sorry because I needed this for the sake of my sanity. Also the forums deleting half of my screenshots when trying to copy them over was really useful!

The main point of this post is to compile information, as well as images and videos to help demonstrate, into one specific place. No new information will be revealed here, though for people who cannot access the PTB and haven't seen the full list of changes yet this post is here.

Some more important things to note:

  • I am using a custom icon pack currently and do not wish to uninstall and reinstall it all. This pack is only relevant for any screenshots from the live version. If this offends you, I am sorry.
  • I am using my main Desktop PC for any recordings, and anything PTB related will also have my laptop joining in. This should explain wierd behavious in these recordings- this is a one man project.
  • I will be using my own images and as many of my own videos as I can. However, due to the limitations placed by Steam preventing me from playing on my PC and laptop simultaniously (family share), I will be using videos (and fancy graphics) made by other people. They will all be credited.
  • My main Desktop PC uses NVIDIA filters whenever possible to compensate for monitor damage and my awful eyesight- these include deuteranope colourblind filters. Again, if this offends you, I am sorry.
  • This is part 1 of 3- the others will be in the comments below! This is because I have exceeded the maximum character limit allowed for a forum post.

This post will not be competed or posted until I remove this clause, and so if you see this in there I have hit public by complete accident. Happened before with 5th Anniversary Stream, right Mandy? :p

The hatch and keys update

The hatch will now only spawn with one final survivor in the trial- it is no longer tied to completed generators, at all.

Keys will continue to open the hatch, although this will take a 2.5s long interaction. Being interrupted will not reset this progress.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkvO4W12DuE

Thank you to GameHolders on YouTube for this clip.

It is possible to be grabbed from the animation of opening the hatch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoqqcaTVeVo

Thank you to boom on YouTube for this clip.

The achievement "Where Did They Go?", which previously required all 4 survivors to escape through the hatch, has been changed to only needing to escape through the hatch using a key, and as such has been aptly renamed "The Key to Escaping".

New mechanics: boon totems

Boon totems are a new mechanic which involves survivors interacting with totems- both dull and hex totems. They allow survivors to "bless" these totems for bonus benefits within an area, whilst killers are able to "extinguish" these totems with a short channel.

https://youtu.be/DZfMMWWrcyI?t=105 https://youtu.be/a5XgRffRYdo?t=20

Credit to Dibra - DBD on YouTube for these videos!

Only one Boon totem may be linked to any one survivor- any Boon perks are automatically applied to the same totem. One they have been extinguished, they can be reignited elsewhere, or even in the same area.

Boon totems create audio effects, which can be heard by the killer, and provide both a new status to the survivor ("Blessed") as well as a visual effect around the boarder of the screen.

https://youtu.be/8y_5sJxrltg

Destroying a Boon totem provides 1500 bloodpoints to the killer in the Deviousness category.

Survivors cannot bless another totem while one remains standing.

New survivor: Mikaela Reid

The new survivor introduced in this update is Mikaela Reid, the young mistic. Difficulty: Intermediate.

The graphics supplied during this portion of the post have been created by Entity's Archives on Twitter- please give them full credit and find their Twitter account here (hyperlinked).

Perks

Mikaela's three perks are Clairvoyance, Boon: Circle of Healing, and Boon: Shadow Step. Clairvoyance activates after having cleansed a Totem. While holding the Ability button, the auras of all exit gate switches, generators, hooks, and chests within 64m are revealed to you. Boon: Circle of Healing is activated through blessing a totem. Lore

Survivor backstory- Mikaela Reid. Mikaela Reid was sixteen when her father passed away. She would always miss his sailing lessons at dawn, his colourful yet inedible tacos, and his warm, contagious laughter. She felt like she was paddling in a vast, storm-black ocean, each rolling wave submerging her. Drifting in painful darkness, she almost lost herself, but resiliently, with love and care, she made her way back to shore. Well-surrounded and supported by her friends, Mikaela put the past behind her and looked at life in a new light. She was excited to try new things and discovered storytelling as an outlet. Her friends liked her stories of daunting danger and hard-earned survival. She read horror stories more and more, savouring the powerful, heart-pounding escapism it provided. Autumn become her favourite season and she threw a grand production for Halloween every year, hosting all her friends for a thrilling night of horror stories, scary games, and homemade treats. Over the years, she also showed interest in witchcraft and practiced light blessings, plant-based spells, and palm-reading divination. She gardened sage, mugwort, and lavender to craft homemade products such as body butters, soaps and skin lotions. She aspired one day to live off the products she made for friends and family. In the meantime, she worked as a barista at the Moonstone, an independent and eccentric coffee shop in the artsy part of town, Every Friday night, she hosted an open mic at the coffee shop, performing stories live in front of customers. Julian, her best friends and roommate, recoded some of her shows and posted them online. Also, unbeknown to her, he submitted one of her performances to the Endless Halloween Festival where renown storytellers performed on stage for Halloween. It was a beautiful surprise when Mikaela received an email from the festival inviting her to perform at their grand final on Halloween. The winning prize was big enough for her to launch her line of products. Excited, she burnt a stick of herbs in each room to dissipate negative energies, then began to craft her tale of horror. Mikaela stayed up all night filling her notebooks with abandoned beginnings. She had a story in mind, but unearthing it took patience and skill. The following night, the nightmares began. For a week, she would wake in the middle of the night gasping for air. Her dream was the same every night. She was dragged down a cold set of stairs and thrown into a dark basement. Then her lungs would be set ablaze by a sharp iron hook stabbing her in the chest. A dark figure would pull on the hook and hoist her from the ground, slowly, until the pain waked her. The more she finessed her Halloween tale, the darker her nightmares grew. As days passed, exhaustion, anxiety, and stress took a toll on her. Often distracted, her coffees at the Moonstone were rushed, acrid, or going to the wrong customer. She no longer blessed the coffee beans in the morning nor looked for omens in the leftover coffee grains. Her energy was low, and her magic felt drained. Minutes later, her fingers began to twitch, then her toes. Her breath became laboured. Then Julian stared in shock as Mikaela slowly rose in the air, levitating over her bed. Panicked, he shook her shoulders to wake her, but stopped when she began to scream. He grabbed his phone to call an ambulance, but a powerful crash diverted his attention. He looked down the hallway and saw a large, spidery fang slam through the bathroom door. Amidst the commotion, Mikaela woke. She saw the black spidery fang shredding the bathroom door and jumped out of bed. She slammed her bedroom door shut and shouted at Julian to help her barricade the door. Before he could react, however, the power went out. The room was submerged in sudden darkness. A second later, the lights came back on and an eerie quietness followed. Mikaela and Julian ventured out the bedroom carefully. The bathroom door looked intact and there was no sign of anything abnormal. But Julian has recorded every sound. A sleepless night followed. When she returned to the apartment after her shift, Julian was not there. Mikaela wanted to remove the recording of their ordeal, which he had posted online. Suspecting Julian might be at school, she left. The door clicked shut behind her, masking a stifled cry from the bathroom. As she neared her car, she looked over her shoulder. Mikaela felt... watched. She whispered a protective spell and clutched her keys. Suddenly, a shadow pounced on the wall and she broke into a run. She reached her car and rushed inside, locking the doors. Breathing hard, she looked through the windows. No one was there. Perhaps it was her nerves playing tricks on her. She turned on the ignition and drove off. The next day, Julian was still nowhere to be found. Mikaela had contacted everyone they knew. She looked for him all day and waited for him all night. Distraught and anxious, she missed her shift at the Moonstone. Halloween was tonight and so was the festival. Julian had entered the storytelling competition for her. He had supported her every time she doubted herself. Maybe he would be there. But between her nightmares and Julian's disappearance, she had been too worried to prepare a story for the contest. She looked at her notebook, filled with false starts. She could stay home, scared and helpless. Or she could finish what Julian had started. There was a reason why she loved to tell horror stories. They made her feel brave enough to face any challenge. That evening when the host called Mikaela's name at the Endless Halloween Festival, she boldly stepped on stage, dressed in a costume: a black dress matched with a wide, witchy hat. She hoped to spot Julian in the crowd. But she could not find him and looking directly at the audience was a mistake. A sea of expectant faces was before her, eyes watching her every move. Her heart pounded in her chest as her hands began to shake. She grabbed the warm microphone and cleared her throat. A thick silence greeted her, only interrupted by a distant cough. She reminded herself that tonight was All Hallows' Eve, when the veil thinned betwixt this realm and the one beyond. She had a story in her heart, a story that mattered. If she told it right, perhaps Julian would hear it. Mikaela took a deep breath. The wet wind of Autumn whirled golden leaves around her. She inhaled the acrid smell of damp, foliage. She swallowed the bitter aftertaste of coffee still on her tongue. Distant eyes cawed from an old oak tree. She closed her eyes. The crimson darkness under her eyelids turned darker. Her heartbeat slowed. She exhaled deeply, her breath a puff of mist in the cold night air. Now she felt awakened, refreshed for the first time in weeks, and ready to tell the tale of a lifetime. She spoke into the microphone in a deep, haunting voice. She narrated a tale of billowing winds on a cold Autumn night. Of a loyal friend disappearing before daylight. Of forgotten victims hiding in the wings of darkness. Of throbbing graves, sealed with terrible secrets. And of eternal night in the shadow of death. Mikaela pointed at the night sky and said that no darkness was truly beyond light. Even on this moonless night, the sky shined with long-dead stars. A thick black fog engulfed Mikaela, to the audience's amazement. No one saw Mikaela Reid again.

I have added alt text to these images, so if you use a screen reader I gotchu! At least- I tried to! If you use a screen reader and have difficulties with it let me know, and I'll try to get it fixed!

The Ghost Face

  • Night Shroud recovery time decreased to 24 seconds (down from 30 seconds)

Updated killer add-ons

Okay so basically, here's how I'll be doing this. Any changes to rarity, or add-on buffs and nerfs, will just be listed out with the PTB version to accompany them. This is for my own sanity and mental health- I've taken this on in possibly my biggest week for a massive update, lucky me!

Any reworked add-ons will be shown alongside their live versions- with the live versions on the top.

Finally, any new add-ons will just be pasted, as well as any removed ones. I have not used alt text for all of these; my wrists began to kill me and unlike the backstory there was no easy to way to copy/paste it out.

  • part 3

This is just the goodbyes lol.

Basically yeah, once more this was a one man job, so I'm sorry if it isn't what people expected- blame Steam and their Family Share system. I got most of the important stuff though, and other people had a lot of what I needed so that was nice. Let me get it out a lot quicker, too, with a lot less editing on my part

Tagging @Boss because they asked me to

Originally, I was going to add in a lovely little graphic (or about a hundred) detailing every single add-on in numerical values. This is still planned, but I cannot be asked to do so right now, and may honestly wait until live.

I hope people find this useful and informative. Once again may I highlight that the main purpose of this post is to compile information, as well as provide some useful videos or screenshots, into one section which is easy to access. You can also use the good old "find in page" option (or shortcut or whatever) to discover an exact change quickly!

That's about enough from me; expect to see yet another massive post for the QnA summary because apparently I hate myself.

If I notice glaring errors, I will edit the post to correct them, however minor errors will probably stay (like any typos I've made).

Sorry this is split into parts; the forums have a word count and I breached it, removing around half of my screenshots in the process. This is my second go at it while very pissed off; I'm glad to have it out there.

To finish off, here is @Huge_Bush's request of some tiny cows as I go and lay down and cry.

Without any dev communication we don't know; they haven't said something on the subject either way yet. It wasn't in the patch notes under "Known Issues" so either it's intentional, or it wasn't known about.

You do have a lot of passive aggression, mate. But who am I to say what you can or can't do?

it's like my brand at this point i can't give it up

  • Similarly to how I try to be as condescending as possible to people who give me headaches in this forum. 😉

  • Wow

    Just wow.

    Amazing job, thank you.

What an amazing donk donk and moo moo :)

And honestly I don't mind that it isn't pinned; I have one already and will likely get a second with the QnA summary.

Yeah but I meant for visibility, especially for people that not as frequently roam the forums.

Pretty good changes, I think the range could be nerfed a bit more because even if the overlap doesn't stack, it could still overlap in some small maps. Ideally there's also totem spawn changes to make them more hidden, but oh well. Maybe if Survivors have the same problem as Killers the devs will focus more on the issue :p

  • I am so glad they removed them stacking, that's what i was mainly worried about. Blood favour changes are good also, make it more consistent.

good, the stacking was the big issue. Thanks for posting that!

  • Wait, so survivors can still escape in front of your face? Lol all they have to do is 99 the hatch

But in all seriousness, I'm glad the changes have come through. At least we got changes. And great work as always.

I have a question :) So do boon perks not stack on one totem anymore, or not stack like multiple survivors can use an individuals boon perk if that makes sense?

They do not stack with multiple of the same perk.

You will continue to apply all Boon perks to a single totem, however you will not be able to be within the radius of 3 Boon: Circle of Healing perks and recieve a 300% boost to healing speed.

    Got it. Thx
