Should lockers be restricted to first person view?
So in movies whenever a survivor hides in a locker or whatever the camera then transitions to a first person view.
Why does that not happen here?
Lockers already give you a great advantage of not being found by a killer but now you have a full 360 camera too?
I don't see why survivors are allowed to be hidden AND have full 360 view. Especially when they are stuck in a locker, they can't see as well to warrant 360 view. Please don't say "well they can see in third person how is that realistic" mechanically 360 vision is suppose to simulate head movement, looking through the corners of your eyes and spatial awareness. But survivors in lockers can't see through the corners of their eyes and have no spatial awareness and can't turn their heads around to get better view. They should be limited to first person in lockers or be locked to 90 degree horizontal vision.
First person locker vision would greatly increase the horror aspect of this game

if you skip to 1:33 of this video this official DBD trailer shows that the survivor only sees in first person when inside a locker
Comments
Honestly would like it, but it would make using Head-On borderline impossible
It would make locker juking perks much harder to use. Do we really want to discourage a more fun chasing build?
and continue having survivors do this because their vision isn't locked to first person?

Head-on is a perk with zero counterplay for killers. It's also not a fun perk when going against SWF abusing it.
If a killer could sneak up by a locker and open it really fast that would effectively counter head-on. Of course the killer would have to know the survivor is in there first. There is still a chance the survivor can open it before the killer does, triggering head-on.
There could be improvements to head on like something similar to spinechill when the icon lights up if the killer is looking at you while inside the locker within 5-10 meters.
Literally the only counterplay killers have for head-on right now is ignore the locker completely or try to bait you out of it which is super risky and the hitbox is glitchy sometimes. It doesn't feel immersive at all and feels like poorly optimized gameplay.
The man found a way to complain about lockers, the absolute legend.
"Head-on is a perk with zero counterplay."
This is blatantly false. You need to play both roles dude, and if you're going to complain about a certain perk, use it yourself first.
Counterplay is baiting it out, and 50% of the time Head On simply doesn't work anyway.
I was almost going to agree with this, and in principle it does make a ton of sense. But I can also imagine how clunky the camera transition would be, and when you're in a chase or something, that kind of disorientation is going to be horrendous.
Head-on zero counterplay ? My lord, the only times I got Head-On-ed is when a friend of the chased guy was waiting in a locker.
Actually, my good sir, if SWF are doing H-on plays, it means at least two people are doing nothing : the guy you chase, and the guy that is waiting in a locker. Plus the stun is not that long.
And if you can't bait one surv you saw goes in a locker... Be careful. Also, the survivor has to wait 3 seconds in a locker to activate Head-On. 3 seconds, it's long, you see him goes in a locker ? Immediately grab him.
"Literally the only counterplay killers have for head-on right now is ignore the locker completely or try to bait you out of it which is super risky and the hitbox is glitchy sometimes. It doesn't feel immersive at all and feels like poorly optimized gameplay."
Many games I've had there are 2 trolling survivors with head-on.
I chase a survivor, they bait me to a locker. Their friend uses head-on.
I lose the chase.
So either I continue chasing the same survivor I was chasing before, while their friend waits for head-on to be useful again. Then bait me into another locker and get head-on'd
Or
I chase the survivor that just recently head-on'd me only for him to bait me to a locker where the survivor I chased previously uses head-on.
So now I pretty much have to avoid every single locker in the damn ######### game (impossible on the silent hill map) and can't commit to any chases because they keep baiting me to lockers
It's not fun. There is no counterplay to this #########. What am I suppose to do just wait till crows appear on the locker? 2-3 gens will pop by the time that happens.
A solo using head-on that's perfectly fine. A coordinated SWF group trolling with head-on and it's a complete nightmare and it's very unfun.
"So either I continue chasing the same survivor I was chasing before, while their friend waits for head-on to be useful again. Then bait me into another locker and get head-on'd."
Head On is an Exhaustion perk, it takes 50s to come back. What's taking you 50 seconds?
Again, use the perk yourself first.
your counterplay sounds good on paper but 4 player SWF with comms makes the counterplay much harder and near impossible.
And so 2 players are abusing head-on while the other 2 are doing gens.
K I'll go find the survivors doing gens. I'll chase them, they'll bait me to a locker I'll get head-on'd, Meanwhile 2 other survivors are back on gens.
K I'll ignore that and go to the 4th survivor doing a gen. I'll chase them, they'll bait me to a locker I'll get head-on'd. Meanwhile 2 other survivors are back on gens.
So what am I suppose to do? Avoid every single locker in the game and every single loop that includes lockers?
To be fair i think they did something to how long the hitbox lasts and how big it is. It hits me even when im not even close to the locker or beside it and last game i played i baited it out and ran forward to pull them out of the locker and still got stunned anyway. Definitely not uncounterable but it wasnt always like that.
If locker builds get nerfed more People will run Dead hard and DS. Do you want more people to do that?
Bro 90% of my games are 3-4 survivors using DH and DS.
Oh no the number will jump to 95%? What's the difference?
At least DS and DH have more counterplay than head-on troll builds.
We shouldn’t nerf perks that are already kinda gimmicky and weak. We need to buff perks so that people actually use other perks
What you said about the horror aspect isn’t really important. Gameplay comes first and having a first person locker view would only add to the list of reasons to never use them
Head-on is not weak with SWF. There is no counterplay to SWF abusing head-on. I'm guaranteed to lose every single chase.
Head-on is only gimmicky and weak to solos.
next you'll say balanced landing is gimmicky and weak but forget to mention how strong it is with haddonfield.
BL is quite strong but tbf some maps like shelter woods make it useless.
Think about it. If one person is constantly following the other to use head on that’s one less person on a gen or totems. I’d take that any day
Anyways let's forget about head-on for a second.
First person view (or locked 90 degree horizontal view) would greatly enhance the horror atmosphere with this game and could add more fun to the game.
I assume there will be balancing to this to compensate but for the sake of the argument first person lockers makes a lot of sense gameplay wise and horror wise.
This game isn’t scary and never will be. First person locker would just be frustrating instead since it would be hard to use the perks associated with them
Lockers are mostly used by newbies, good survivors rarely use them for hiding. Do we really want to punish more the newbies?
Yes, they should. It would improve the game immensely by making lockers kinda scary and make locker plays a lil harder.
Immersion is good for dbd.
it would be cool but i can see perks like headon being killed. this would be a good change if they made it so head on activates after 5 seconds but it automatically stuns the killer when they try to check the locker
Did you really just ask this to Lord_Tony of all people?
We already know the answer ;)
Because lockers already have the built in risk of putting a survivor straight into the dying state. They can be useful to hide in or proc a handful of perks, but if the killer sees or hears you, or even just correctly guesses that you’re there, you go straight on the hook in an extremely short amount of time.
Making them both potentially dangerous and also reducing visibility would make them useless. Nobody would bother with lockers and they would become obsolete. Which I guess is the point of you suggesting this change, you don’t like lockers and don’t want survivors to use them. Well, too bad. Lockers are balanced.
Guess you never played against jumpscare mirror myers.
@Lord_Tony stream today?
trickster buffed yet?
Yes, survivors trying to head on him get stabbed by the knives in the locker instead, causing them to suffer from the status effect "acupuncture"
Would be a good buff not going to lie.
Like a magician shoving swords in a box with someone inside it
Maybe the first hit but after that it’s fine
hard to feel scared of killers when SWF tbags them because the killer is so weak and can't do anything against coordinated teams.
I think it would help the scary atmosphere of the game that is at the moment just not there, however Head On should give the extra benefit of a third - person view.
So first person view normally
but with head-on you get third person locked 90 degree horizontal view
no, with Head On you'd get current locker view.
that seems OP if lockers are limited to first person everyone would use head on
not really, most people don't usually don't use lockers in their current state since they aren't very useful. If the opposite were true, Iron Maiden would be a good perk. Besides, if Head on were limited to first person, it would be useless.
jfc next thing you know is that tony is gonna complain about killers not being 3rd person and survivors 1st person for the “horror”
tony doesn’t let anything go and it’s starting to become more irritating than amusing
Sounds fun, would probably have to test it though.
If they did do that they should make the animations a bit faster to incentivize stealth
Uh what?
See here's the thing killers almost always have "killer vision" in the movies. you can see their POV.
Survivors are always in third person EXCEPT when hiding in lockers and stuff like that, then it's first person POV.
This is a horror game with classic horror tropes. Being in lockers would be much scarier and fits the immersion of this game.
I mean, TBH I would agree with this if it wasn't Lord Tony.
If they were going to make a change this big, they would probably change Dead On to compensate.
Logically some thematic elements (for example, some horror aspects) need to be sacrificed for the sake of more fluid gameplay.
