Pig should get trappers trap treatment

I love how they are trying to reduce the rng of the game. I feel like it is the Pigs turn to try and fix her RNG nature. While she can be great, she can also be awful and overall she is just inconsistent which is why I think her traps should get something similar to trapper or maybe something different. It probably wouldn't happen soon since they would have to rework how her traps are chosen per box since its pre-determined

  • That would make her +1 box add-on pretty worthless.

She will be getting an addon pass anyways

  • I agree. This, and basekit combat straps, would be such anice change. Not perfect, not even a big buff, just... Nice.

  • There is no way you can balance RNG though, it is best to set a fixed about of time searching boxes and a certain amount of them instead of leaving it up to random chance.

  • I'm pretty sure what they did to Trapper's traps was actually to make them more like Pig's. The bear traps will just have a randomly set number of escape attempt beetween 1 and 6 (modified by add-ons) just like Pig's RBT have a randomly assigned box out of 4 (modified by add-ons) to remove them.

Before Trapper had a flat 25% escape chance for each attempt. After the update it will be 17/33/50/66/83/100%. If anything its kind of a nerf, because the odds of escaping on the first try are now lower but everything after that is higher. Maybe the reworked escape add-ons will make it worth it ?

Of course thats assuming the number of attempt is determined with a flat d6 and not with some other formula.

  • ^ What this guy said.

Pig's traps don't assign you a specific box to find, but instead randomly give you a certain number of boxes you need to search before your hat comes off. New trapper will be much the same: as soon as you step on a trap you will be randomly assigned X number if escape attempts before you free yourself.

I love Pig, so it doesn't surprise me that she has the highest kill rate among killers. Her power is basically "make survivors stop doing OBJ for a while and also possibly kill them".

This is wrong. You need to search the correct Jigsaw Box to get the Trap off. It doesn't come off after you search X boxes, where X is a randomly assigned number.

Indeed. But in term of odds it does not matter if you have to find the right box or search a set number of boxes. You have 25% chances to find the key in the first box, 33% in the second, 50% in the third and 100% in the last (without add-ons adding extra boxes.)

If the system required you to search a random number of boxes, each number between 1 and 4 (assuming no add-ons that change the number of boxes) has a 25% chance of being chosen. The odds don't change with each searched box because the number of boxes you have to search is static. If you fail the first search, the odds of your next search being correct is not 33% chance because the number of boxes you have to search is not re-rolled between 1-2-3.

  • I feel like it should have just had it's own little minigame mechanic in general.

Instead of just more skill checks and holding M1.

I like the idea of a mini game unique to only her, like Pig also spawns a bunch of chests over the map, like 5 extra ones and they all have items but 5 of the chests (out of all) on the map now have 'garbage' items in them- however they can all serve a purpose. In order to remove a trap you have to bring an item to a box and sacrifice it, even if it's the 'garbage' item that has no use for anything except for that.

It's basically still searching things, you still have to travel around and interact with 2 things, it still has the "Game" idea behind it; and you could add or remove steps as needed until it was balanced.

LET ME BE CLEAR; that is one idea off the top of my head idk, the point is we can do so much more than just....tweak some numbers. We've gotten so complacent and expect so little from the devs; we shouldn't have to do that, we should be allowed to want something more.

  • Personally I feel letting her set the box the next trap has its key placed in would make her power consistent, while keeping the suspense end of the survivor gameplay.

Let her press M2 while not over a downed survivor to highlight a box she's looking at yellow, and have it hold any keys for any traps she places(survivors dont see the yellow aura)

This would make it insanely easy for a griefer Pig to just stand in front of the correct box and sentence a Trapped Survivor to death.

  • My idea:

4 Boxes with 4 different symbol ( called A B C D). A trapped survivor first must find a box (example he finds box B). Then box B drop a random symbol of either A,C or D. Survivor must find that specific box to untrap.

A box cant drop its own symbol. 3 survivors can search the same box B for symbol A,C,D. But the 4th survivor must search either A,C,D before untrap at box B.

If you search all boxes but the selected one, you get off it off as well

  • uhh no, I usually have to got o the very last or next to last to get it off after it's activated, that's long enough as it's wasted minutes just to stay alive already. If you make it too annoying all you're gonna get are people seeing it as tedious as the ultra slow killer loadouts and dropping out if you keep them removing active traps more than they even get to tap a generator. You won't be getting hook points as often if they dc once they realize they've spent the past 5 minutes running around trying to get beeping traps off before their head explodes. That's gonna be pretty boring for you too once they see a match like that coming and leave it rather than sit through the tediousness of it. You might get lobbies fast but you don't wanna lose them fast either once it loads and they find out it's gonna be "one of those games"

You better consider letting one player a match "boop the snoot" and at least keep one friend lol. If they make the wrong changes to how her traps are handled it could be a justifiable gripe unlike ruin/undying, since ruin/undying falling prey tot hat is the survivor's fault but you can't ignore the beeping trap and learn to just finish a gen (unless one is already almost finished and you wanna tap it out first and have a feel for the trap timer obviously) or come back and not let it regress. If you ignore the trap you're dead and if the pig runs around after the wrong changes and decides to just keep everybody running to boxes all game they're just gonna start to dc. I can see somebody abusing that to make long drawn out games just to screw with people who already have long queues before they have a long boring game.

  • the thing with her traps is that the key is preset so while it is kinda rng since the survivor doesn't know which box it is it's also not.

I would like the devs to do a ptb with this change and gather stats to see if this makes it less likely that they can remove the trap otherwise we wont know if this is better or not. for once i will agree with a changed based off of stats with the devs.

  • Since Pig is from SAW I've always thought the idea of adding the ability for survivors to take a permanent debuff for the rest of the trial to remove Pig's trap immediately a fun idea. While removing the trap you could hit a specific button, your trap pops off, and then you're locked in a mini screen where you have to select one of four randomely chosen debuffs that are permanently on you for the rest of the trial.

    This could be stuff like:

    • Permanently exhausted
    • Broken
    • Slower gen repair
    • Slower heal speeds
    • No item usage

Stuff like that. SAW was always about making a sacrifice to get through his trials. This would not only align with the movies, but fix the RNG issue by allowing survivors to remove the trap at a penalty.

something like that would fit the theme and not be a bad idea, but it should also make them immune to future traps in the match since they "passed the test"

That kinda seems like a net nerf, then. Survivors would only have to search three boxes.

Of the ones you mentioned, I would argue that the only ones that might make for a meaningful "lesser of two evils" choice are broken and slower gen repair. The rest seem like a no-brainer choice to pick close to 100% of the time. You'd also have to make it so you need to make that choice very soon after you put the Trap on. If you let them make that choice whenever they want, they will simply wait until the last possible moment to take the Trap off to avoid dying, regardless of what the penalty is.
