Still No Camping Counterplay?

Honestly, this game has given me the worst experience over the past few days and I've reached my breaking point with people. So we had a game on Limkin Lane against a ghostface, hes doing pretty terribly and takes a few minutes to get his first down, I kinda felt bad for him because I assumed its because of the new terrible matchmaking that either matches you with opponents that are far better than you or matches them with opponents that you destroy however thats a topic for another day. Now Im playing with 2 friends and the random gets downed and dragged to the basement. First peek in the house and we see the ghostface is camping in the house with the basement... right. Now its all well and good saying, leave that person, there is nothing you can do etc but man, its just not fun to play like that and why should a killer be entitled to one guarunteed kill every match just by downing someone once. Well, the guy plays like an ######### and we try to save the person in the basement and end up dedicating to it but its pretty hard without any communication from the random and we end up going down ourselves. I dont care that you can say, well you should bring this perk or that perk... no, the game shouldnt be based around luck if you happened to bring the right perk that counters a toxic strategy, how is it fair making a game where if you dont happen to bring the right perk you die. After post game chat and generally playing to altruistically and trying to save eachother from being camped (we got ######### over) we find out its because one of us brought a flashlight... a yellow one with no addons because they are just generally fun to use (unlike standing still at the top of the basement) and have tremendous counterplay.

The fact that the game has systems in check that can easily punish you if someone doesnt like something you do is ridiculous. Im not a game developer so I cant really suggest what would be a good fix for this other than maybe 2 exits for the basement (but then we would probably need some sort of counterbuff so it doesnt just destroy the basement) but either way its pretty dumb and just makes the game unfun. I got too heated and left after that game but it sucks, I like to play to have fun but that game was just stressful and stupid. Oh and not only that but I find it ridiculous that the game has abilities that endorse camping? Like seriously, why? The devs always seem to focus on non issues and dont fix the real problems this game has and always end up making it worse

Camping is a bad strategy that doesn't work if survivors gen rush.

Leaving the hook 10 seconds and come back to down the unhooked guy and then chase the savior is a strategy that work 100% of the time, especially if survivors don't use borrow.

And last two days, every killer i have played against used it, and got their 3k+.

Tried it today against a good swf (or trioQ). Got 4k.

It's a shame that such a "strategy" is working. Developpers are dumb to call this a strategy, it's not as it always work. It's not mindgame or demonic 200IQ. It's just EZ.

But well, when i saw Mathieu Coté playing the Hag and get bullied, i udnerstood this guy is just a noob who will never know what direction to give to DbD.

You kind of undermine your own point when you say "camping" is a bad strategy if you follow it with your experience of it getting every killer you played against a 3K+. :)

  • Yes there are many types of counterplay but most of the times it's baby survivors who can't counterplay camping against a baby killer. What should be done is make the Entity not to progress on the hook (aka stop the red bar if the killer is close) that would force killers not to facecamp.

  • @28_stabs said:

Also, devs could add a blood meter that would simply measure killer total hooks and injures and nobody would really care to camp, unless they want to be toxic...

That's already the case since emblems are based on the number of hits/hooks/sacrifices

No it wouldn't. There are Killers that can camp the hook from across the Map. It would only stop some Killers. It is inappropriate. There will always be risk in unhooking someone. That is why it is worth points. It is also because more of you means faster Generators. It is in your best interest to unhook and the Killer's to prevent it or punish you for it. There is already plenty of counter play to Camping. Use it.

Camping is a strategy. It isn't a good or fun strat, but it does exist. He won because you made a very foolish mistake. If you had simply left your teammate and taken the win, he would de-pipped and it would have shown him that camping is not a viable strategy. However, since you and your team went in after your teammate, he likely pipped and believes that camping IS a good strategy.

It is unfortunate, but the best thing to do is let them have their one kill. They will de-pip. The game punishes a Killer by taking away Emblem points, which count towards ranking up, whenever the Killer is next to a hooked Survivor for over 16 seconds (assuming there isn't another Survivor within that range.)

Anti-camping strats were tested but they were...abused, shall we say.

This. When I started I thought invisible camping as wraith was awesome... and you know what, it was many many games before I ran into a team that punished me by doing gens and doing totems while I stood there. Then it was one BT save and everyone escapes teabagging me. I learned after a couple games like that that camping is both ineffective and looked down upon.

I talk about a meter that would allow to kill all 4 survivors, if the meter is filled with blood (injures and hooks, pressure lol). A meter that would remove the need to kill one survivor as soon as possible to slow repairs.

Camping is like time, its relative! The flow of time is different for the person who is using the toilet and for the person who impatiently waits in front of the restroom. Same thing with camping! The person on the hook does interpret camping different then the killer or even other survivor.

There are different kinds of playstyles that people sum up as camping eventhough they have completly different intends and results.

    1) Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm:

    • Intent: To kill the person on the hook
    • Distance: "Smell their breath"-distance
    • Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
    • Counter: DO the gens and leave, the person on the hook should waist as much time as possible!

    2) Close proximity patrolling aka I know people are not near the hook, but I will still patrol in 8m radius because I realy need this kill.

    • Intent: To kill the person on the hook
    • Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
    • Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
    • Counter: 3 People teamwork can save against most killer in the game - does not work on Bubba, Oni with power, Meyers with power, Plague with power

    3) Close proximity patrolling aka I saw you hidding and noone else on BBQ I will not leave because I have nowhere to go

    • Intent: To hunt a different person but without gifting them a free unhook, because you are not obligated to do so at all
    • Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
    • Will leave the hook: When there is a new survivor to hunt and NO clicking flashlight 30m away then tbag and then imidiantly start running away will NOT motivate to leave, if you want an exhange the come close enough to be considered an offering to leave the hook, because you need to understand that the time is running for the killer you will need to interfere eventually so do it right away
    • Counter: Over the killer a chase alternative, most killer will happily accept gameplay instead of hookpatroling, but like I said before dont BM, dont flashlight click, dont Tbag! This will not motivate but just make the killer more angry not to leave you a free unhook.

    4) Far proximity patrolling aka I saw that you are near the hook, but I am feeling great today so I will gift you the unhook and hunt the one who unhooked

    • Intent: Gift the survivor the unhook eventhough it is not the most effective thing to do at all and then hunt the unhooker
    • Distance: The closest thing to do aka the closest gen to kick the closest pallet to break
    • Will leave hook: already did leave, but will return for the person who unhooked
    • Counter: DONT hide, if the killer returns and there is only the injured person from the hook this will be his target, if you saved then take the responsibility and play with the killer instead of farming your teammate!

    5) Leaving the hook but person gets unhooked so I return aka I was not camping you are just impatient

    • Intent: Hunt people, you are fault that you dont allow the killer to leave!
    • Distance: variable
    • Will leave hook: already did leave, but had to return because its the closest survivor to hunt
    • Counter: dont unhook while in heartbeat or while not in chase

    6) I was hunting that one person who discided to go near the hook and then start using the loops around the hook aka ######### should I do? Just leave? May I maybe go serve you some cold drings when you unhook for free?

    • Intent: Hunting the person
    • Distance: Close to the prey
    • Will leave the hook: already did, you just brought the killer back to the hook
    • Counter: Dont bring the killer near the hook again

Doing the first kind of camping aka "Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm" is bad at any situation and I have no excuse for that! EVERY other kind of "camping" has his place in the game and is not only viable but even CRUCIAL to do under some circumstances if you want to win the game. 4-6 is not camping, people calling this camping just experience it this way because its from they perspective. 3 is viable thing to do because you are not obligated to give a free unhook, survivor do not gift you a gen nore do they offer them selfs to be hooked when the doors are open at the end of the day.

2 is also viable especially if you are defending survivor and a gen or a gate in the same time or the gates are open and this is the only thing to do to get a kill! Survivor often demand that you leave the hook and start hunting a different person BUT the person that is offering himself as the prey does not give you a fair chance to get him, he has several second chance perks and an opned gate very close and even then there are 3 other survivor with flashlights and pallets ready to save him. You are the killer, you need to kill, the person that you will kill with the highest chance is the person on the hook, leaving the hook without an advantage to hook the next person is ineffective and should not be done if you want to win.

BEST ANTICAMPING ADVICE: Dont hide from BBQ! If the killer sees 2 person on a gen he will more often leave the hook to prevent gens from popping then stay there! But if you hide yourself the killer will have nowhere to go because he might think everyone is inside 32m radius ready to unhook!

here is a guide how to camp and how to beat camping!

  • The counter is do Gens, but you actively decided against it and rewarded the killer with more kills then they deserved.

Yep, good idea. But the main problem is gen speed

  • @Smoker101 said:

You could just run BT. I almost always run it just in case the killer is camping.

Bt doesnt work on cloaked ghostface

  • True. You know, we have millions of good ideas. Long time ago at Steam forum mutiple times I mentioned my idea about debuffs. I said that hooked survivors should get repair speed debuff (-25% repair speed for every hook), but it was ignored. Probably, all our ideas do not matter. :)

  • So break him out before you unhook?

  • Well that involves staring at ghostface for a good second, and if your just standing in place looking at ghostface, he wont care if hes cloaked

By bad i mean not fair. Bad because it pollutes the game, it's cheesy to play like this and fun for no one...

But it works, it is the worst point, especially when the camping is not "face camping", you go away a little and come back etc...

  • As a killer main, camping isnt smart. You gotta keep applying pressure or you lose, 1 kill isn't satisfying. Plus, you lose points for staying near the hook.

There are definately perks that counter it, but there's one strat that can work without special perks: baiting. if the killer isn't a total ass, one of you runs up and waves, killer will usually chase, leaving someone else free to unhook. That combined with survivor communication and perks makes camping easily counterable.

The thing that made me camp as a noob was not wanting to waste a bunch of time searching for survivors, and if i stick near the hook I know my time is at least ensuring a kill. Giving them something to chase eases their worry of wandering around aimlessly. Now that im a seasoned killer, I don't camp unless someone teabags mid chase. If you're gonna act cocky you better back it up by not getting caught, cause if you do the killer gets a lot of satisfaction from ruining your fun by facecamping
