It's the same on the PlayStations too? Didn't know that.
agreed. DBD is so slow to implement basic things that other games have

we absolutely can appear offline on PlayStation. However, we still show online specifically in DBD, which is the annoying part. No idea about Xbox but I’m pretty sure Fortnite allows you to appear offline so there’s no reason DBD can’t do it. The feature just wouldn’t be supported for Xbox.
-
Good luck getting them to fix this. I reported a clipping issue like this months ago and it's still broken.

This cannot be done on Xbox, as it would violate some of the Microsoft player visibility guidelines. It's the reason DBD's Anonymous Mode cannot even be used.
Dunno about the PlayStations.
PlayStation gives you the ability to appear as offline on your PlayStation account, so I’m guessing it would be fine in DBD. That’s really weird Xbox doesn’t allow that!

@patronsaintofpizza @Valimure Don't we already have that option in the game's settings? Under "Online", there are 3 options to hide something. One of them should be hiding you from "online friends" inside DBD. Check them out, I'm pretty sure one has such description.
That's not how that feature works. All it does is hide your username shown at the top of the friends list. You still show up as online to your friends.

Think about how selfish this take is. Tons of people are loving 2v8 and even prefer it over 1v4, but you don't want them to have that game mode because of how it affects your queue time.
This isn't selfish. It's about the long-term health of the game. If queue times for the base game are always long, that will negatively impact the health of the game. Long queues > fewer players > less revenue for BHVR > servers get shut down due to operating costs outweighing revenue being brought in.
Now, if you just want 2v8 to completely replace the original mode, then that makes you just as selfish if not more so.

Mandy already stated in another threat that there is no shortage on the Survivor side - Player who want to feel and play the new Killer experience won't stop that - even for 1000% BP they wouldn't switch sides, I suppose
It can't hurt though can it? I'm sure there will be some people that will see the bonus and switch to survivor, which would absolutely help.
-
I've been playing survivor in 2v8 non-stop since it released on Thursday. Slugging is not a huge issue. I've had 1 match I can recall where the killers were slugging everyone and they failed miserably at it and everyone escaped. Just because you have one instance of an egregious case of slugging doesn't make it a huge problem.
-
I’ve also encountered this twice today. Was playing survivor, had two gens left, and suddenly both were completed.
-
It's most annoying when you're running Object of Obsession and the killer has BBQ. Basically makes Object useless in that scenario.
-
Yep, they changed it with the Dredge chapter. My friend and I were both Kindred addicts and immediately noticed the change. BHVR has been gaslighting players that it's "always been this way" ever since.
-
It's happened to me twice on PS5
-
The folks complaining about this clearly weren't around when DS could be used in end game. Watching people teabag in the exit gate knowing the killer couldn't do a thing about it actually felt bad. Baiting DS during the match is fine. It's really not that big of a deal.
-
Yep, I've noticed the same even when my ping is fine.
-
I have long said you should only get the chance to unhook yourself when
- You have a perk like Deliverance, Slippery Meat, Up the Ante, or Wicked
- 3 survivors are dead, dying, or hooked (this allows for someone to speed up dying so a teammate can get hatch, or if the killer has all of your teammates slugged/hooked while you're on hook)
- the anti-facecamp meter is full
- 5 seconds before you go into second stage (for when you have those teammates that can't/won't rescue you)
-
Yeah, just watched a stream where a whole team was using the exploit and the killer couldn't even get the prompt to open the locker when the survivor was clipping into it.

Do true killer mains even exist in DBD? I feel like most people who play killer a lot, also play a decent amount of survivor. While there truly are survivor mains who have never even played a single killer game and yet claim “KIlLer Is sO EAzy”

The vast majority of people posting here are killers.
Don't believe me? Go look at how many "NERF MFT NOW OMG" posts there have been since its release. Before that is was COH and DH for years.
The majority of the player base consists of survivors, so, yes it’s safe to assume most of the people in the forum are people who mostly just play survivor.

You play Killer without perks regularly and win almost all your matches? I have significant doubts about this. Probably one the few who do since this forum is mostly a pro-Survivor echo chamber with plenty of cognitive dissonance in the air.
Makes me think of a neon-hair Nea behind a Trapper mask saying how easy Killer is.
Yeah, any time I see these “Omg killer is so easy. I get 4ks every match while blindfolded!!” I just straight up assume they’re lying. It’s the internet, so unless you’ve got receipts, I don’t believe you.
And if they are telling the truth, they are a survivor main who plays killer once a year and goes against baby survivors.

While the top5-Killer-Perks are pretty close together (5%), the top5-Survivor-Perks are pretty interesting (15% between P1 and P5).
This does NOT mean that I want WoO nerfed or anything, but its kinda interesting to see how stale especially the survivor-meta is. WoO, Made for this and Resilience are in every single lobby when I play survivor and when I play killer, while on killer side, we mostly see a bit more variety. I assume thats because we have more variety on killer-side OR IN MY WORDS more perks closer together to each other.
On Killer-Side, Im pretty sure Ultimate Weapon will rise in stats, also Rapid Brutality is a perk I see here and there.
We need more perks worth using especially for survivors, because currently, its all about Gen-Speedup and Chase-Extension.
How about buffing the team-perks heavily, so that its worth it being together with another one. How about making stealth-gameplay better, because the hide-and-seek-gameplay is currently dead.
I feel myself as a killer-main and I have to say: Im thrilled when I see someone using different stuff, because its ALWAYS Made for this, Adre/Hope, Resilience, Prove Thyself, Windows, Sprint Burst and Deja-Vu.
On killer-side, Hex-Perks are pretty weak on most maps, not because the effect is weak, but the totem-survival-chance is. Current Undying could be Basekit to any Hex for example to make it more worth OR the Face the Darkness-Effect of Hexes are capable of moving.
It’s interesting that I still hear the same old argument that playing survivor is so bad nowadays, killer is so easy, I’m getting tunneled out every game, etc. and Adrenaline is very much the new meta. I see it in almost every match. You would think if games were always that bad, people wouldn’t bother bringing that perk because they usually wouldn’t get to use it? It would basically be a wasted perk slot, right?

Almost like the anti-camp is non-existent and the anti-tunnel got gutted out of the game.
Huh? They literally made BT base kit. There is also Reassurance, Kinship, DS, Off the Record. And soon there will be the new anti-camp mechanic.
-
Lot of folks saying that killers are tunneling a lot more nowadays. I personally haven’t noticed it being much different than years past when I play solo queue. But if this is truly happening, then I think killers are tunneling a lot more and tunneling earlier in matches because of the regression perk nerfs BHVR did after SM released. Players don’t really have any good perks now to slow down gen progress, so they just resort to tunneling early and often. You can scream get good at folks, but no one wants to practice thousands of hours to become good at killer, so they will take the easiest route to win. Before, they could’ve used meta slowdown builds. Now they just tunnel. Which is worse?
But if there really is a large amount of people quitting, I think it’s mainly because the game is getting stale, and BHVR really needs to come up with new gameplay modes. I personally don’t play as much anymore because the game has just gotten so repetitive, both on killer and survivor. I was so hopeful that Xeno would renew my love of the game, but sadly, it just feels like more of the same.
-
Yeah, ideally they would use David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's likenesses and maybe even get them to provide the voices.
-
Or you could just cleanse the totem? Just a thought!
-
I've been playing him a lot recently to try to get better and once I start increasing in MMR, it's nothing but pain.
I don't even mind EMPs as much as how easy it is for survs to completely avoid his pods. A lot of survs have figured out now how to just use obstacles so as to not be targeted by the pod so then the killer wastes time either setting up new pods or just chasing them like any other M1 killer. You waste soooo much time even when you're effectively using his power in chase.
And the fact that survs can still gain decent amount of distance even if you successfully teleport to them is also really frustrating.
Sadly, I doubt he will get a rework any time soon. At most we can hope for is some small tweaks. He'll probably just be another killer like Twins that nobody ever plays.
-
The issue I have with these types of complaints surrounding 3 gens is why not just give up and go to the next match if it's so unfun for you? If you're truly playing casually then just give up and go next. If the game has already gone for 20+ minutes then you def aren't going to have a problem with pips or BP, so that's no excuse. So why not just let the killer kill you and move on? Please help me understand the rationale. Is it actually that you want to win and 3 gens make that difficult? If so, cool, but you also have to admit then that you are playing to win and not playing casually.

Or they've reached an MMR where the only viable strategy is tunneling and 3 genning. But please keep telling everyone how you can win all your Pig matches without doing any of this. Most over used survivor main argument who once and awhile plays killer.
LOL. Yeah, any time I see one of these I'm just like welp you're either a liar or you play killer once a year and your MMR is in the negatives.

The problem is that multiple different people will have multiple different definitions of this exact thing. For example.
Tunneling:
- Is it tunneling if someone intentionally goes after the person who was just unhooked and completely ignores everyone and everything else? Most would say yes.
- But, when if i'm doing that because the person just used deliverance before i left the area, is that still tunneling?
- What about when someone immediately unhooked them before i could even fully walk away and then i go for the unhooker, but the unhooked guy forces me to hit them by body blocking?
- What about when i hook someone in a dead zone, and then i start chasing someone else, but the person i start chasing is running to an area of the map with shack linked to a jungle gym, linked to the fun bus? Should i throw the game to chase that other guy? Or go after the weak one who was just unhooked. Is that tunneling?
- What if i'm using a perk combination like Remember me and we are near endgame and i need to remove the obsession. Is that tunneling?
- What if i saw the survivor immediately went back to a generator instead of healing themselves or getting healed because they wanted to "tunnel" the gen. Is that still tunneling if i go after them?
Camping:
- Is it camping if i play leatherface and sit there waiting to chainsaw anyone? Most would say yes.
- But, if i'm playing trapper and i hook someone in basement and place a bunch of traps that someone steps in while i'm away. Is that still camping?
- What if i'm playing hag, and place a couple of traps near the hook, then they go off and i teleport. Is that still camping?
- What if i'm using a MYC build and demogorgon, and teleport over just as the unhook happens to instadown the unhooker?
- What if i downed a survivor who was hiding nearby to get the save and they didn't realize i saw them while i was hooking. If i stay there because i have 2 survivors there, am i still camping? At that point, if i pick up the survivor, i'm giving the others a free unhook. And 2 survivors can't completely 5 gens by themselves before the timer runs out, so its a good play to make in that case.
- If we hit endgame, and the gates are 99'ed and i hook someone and camp them, is that still camping? (hint: a lot of people still think this is "camping", but i don't. i mean, what else am i supposed to do at that point, i have no other objective)
Slugging:
- Is it slugging if i down all 4 survivors and let them bleed out for 4 minutes? Most would say yes.
- But, what if i'm using a build specifically for slugging, using knock out, and infectious fright, and so on, is that still "slugging"? There are perks literally designed for it...
- What if i'm playing Oni, and i down someone with my power, but i know someone is nearby, is that slugging?
- What if i down someone, and i know someone is going to go for the flashlight or pallet save so i go after them. Is that slugging?
- What if it is the last remaining survivor, and they ran to a corner where there are no hooks and get downed, knowing it is impossible to hook them. Is that slugging?
- What if i'm playing a killer that has a timed power, and i down someone, such as t3 myers. And i know someone else is nearby, is that slugging?
- What if a gen is about to be completed and i see survivors working on it, and i just down a survivor, is that slugging?
The reality is, there are people that exist that would answer yes to every single one of those. And then there are people that exist that would say No to the majority of them. The reality of the situation though is? Why assign subjective labels to anything, when the goal is the same. The killer is playing to win. They are using the strategy they think is going to give them the highest odds of winning the game.
I would suggest reading the free e-book "Playing to Win" by Game designer David Sirlin:
https://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introduction
Here is an except from the book that exemplifies this exact "issue" imo.
Introducing...the Scrub
The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win.
Now, everyone begins as a poor player—it takes time to learn a game to get to a point where you know what you’re doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or “learn” the game, one can become a top player. In reality, the “scrub” has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He’s lost the game even before deciding which game to play. His problem? He does not play to win.
The scrub would take great issue with this statement for he usually believes that he is playing to win, but he is bound up by an intricate construct of fictitious rules that prevents him from ever truly competing. These made-up rules vary from game to game, of course, but their character remains constant. Let’s take a fighting game off of which I’ve made my gaming career: Street Fighter.
In Street Fighter, the scrub labels a wide variety of tactics and situations “cheap.” This “cheapness” is truly the mantra of the scrub. Performing a throw on someone is often called cheap. A throw is a special kind of move that grabs an opponent and damages him, even when the opponent is defending against all other kinds of attacks. The entire purpose of the throw is to be able to damage an opponent who sits and blocks and doesn’t attack. As far as the game is concerned, throwing is an integral part of the design—it’s meant to be there—yet the scrub has constructed his own set of principles in his mind that state he should be totally impervious to all attacks while blocking. The scrub thinks of blocking as a kind of magic shield that will protect him indefinitely. Why? Exploring the reasoning is futile since the notion is ridiculous from the start.
You will not see a classic scrub throw his opponent five times in a row. But why not? What if doing so is strategically the sequence of moves that optimizes his chances of winning? Here we’ve encountered our first clash: the scrub is only willing to play to win within his own made-up mental set of rules. These rules can be staggeringly arbitrary. If you beat a scrub by throwing projectile attacks at him, keeping your distance and preventing him from getting near you—that’s cheap. If you throw him repeatedly, that’s cheap, too. We’ve covered that one. If you block for fifty seconds doing no moves, that’s cheap. Nearly anything you do that ends up making you win is a prime candidate for being called cheap. Street Fighter was just one example; I could have picked any competitive game at all.
Doing one move or sequence over and over and over is a tactic close to my heart that often elicits the call of the scrub. This goes right to the heart of the matter: why can the scrub not defeat something so obvious and telegraphed as a single move done over and over? Is he such a poor player that he can’t counter that move? And if the move is, for whatever reason, extremely difficult to counter, then wouldn’t I be a fool for not using that move? The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing.
A common call of the scrub is to cry that the kind of play in which one tries to win at all costs is “boring” or “not fun.” Who knows what objective the scrub has, but we know his objective is not truly to win. Yours is. Your objective is good and right and true, and let no one tell you otherwise. You have the power to dispatch those who would tell you otherwise, anyway. Simply beat them.
At the end of the day, anyone complaining about these tactics, is simply a scrub. Because these tactics have counters, and these tactics are counters to certain things that survivors do. The reason that tunneling, and camping and slugging is working, is because the survivors let it work, by making a bad decision. You can argue that these things are "unfun" or "boring" or anything else you want, but the killer is playing to win. If those tactics are "unfun" and "boring" and whatever else. The person you should be directing your anger toward, is not the player using them. It is the developers who allow such tactics to exist.
There are some survivor main heads exploding somewhere while reading the definition of scrub lol.
I think the thing about this concept in DBD that is most wild to me is that a lot of survivor players that complain about killers playing sweaty will themselves play sweaty. Basically there's this mentality of "it's ok for me to sweat, but not you." I think the event has exacerbated this mentality because everyone wants their masks in the first day and want to get 300k BP every match.
-
This question isn't meant to be snarky, but I'm genuinely curious, if your survivor games are all camping, tunneling, and slugging, what keeps you coming back? Like I said in my original post, my games really aren't bad the majority of the time. But if I had the games that others have, I would've stopped playing survivor ages ago. So just curious why others keep playing if they have such bad games?
-
@mikewelk said:
It's most likely due to Sony and/or Microsoft. They wouldn't want people switching to PC faster because that would definitely happen if cross progression was implemented in lots of other games and no one would worry about losing all their progress by switching. It would be a bad business move for them which is unfortunate for us. I mean I was literally considering buying a PS5 again in order to not lose my progress on my Nightmare Edition disc...
Yeah, I've heard that Sony and Microsoft charge in order to allow cross progression. And I would be more than fine if BHVR passed that cost down to the player. I would absolutely pay to sync my accounts.

Hasn't been that bad for me, and I've been running No Mither over half my games. I got like 5 camping/tunneling killers in a row when I started playing again recently, but it died down after a little bit.
A No Mither Gamer?!?! ;)
-
I think part of the problem is the perception that survivors think they've had a bad match if they don't escape. But that's not always the case. Look at things like BP and pips as well. Also, BHVR has stated the average survivor should only escape roughly 40% of the time. So the game is intended for you to not make it out. Looking at it from that perspective makes me not really care at all about escaping as long as I can get decent BP and pip/safety pip most of the time.
When people say it's a killer-sided game, well, it is. You're not meant to escape the majority of your matches and the killer is intended to get at least one kill in every match.
-
@RoastedGarlic said:
its not as widespread as people would have you believe. I'm pretty much a survivor main these days. yesterday I got tunneled out a bit. For the most part we get the gens done and the killer has only had time to hook 1 survivor.
honestly it is a worse time playing killer right now than it is to play survivor. I've played less than 10 killer games in the last week and if it wasn't for this event I wouldn't have played a single killer game.
I guess I am not a killer main anymore, at least for now... my 12 hook no tunnel no camp play style just isn't feasible anymore so I don't want to play a role where I have to feel bad for winning because I made everyone else miserable.
This is exactly where I am with killer. I don't like playing sweaty, and recently it seems like when I try to play fair, I just get steamrolled. Really only play killer for challenges and dailies now.
-
Yeah, usually if I have really bad solo games, it's because teammates can't run the killer very long or aren't able to use common sense to go for saves. But honestly, and this might be because of MMR, even my solo teammates are typically pretty competent.
-
I personally wish they would implement the built-in self pick up and insta-killer win if everyone is slugged at the same time. I'd much rather the game just ends and move on to the next match. This also makes it more of a risk for the killer to slug especially if survs bring Unbreakable or Exponential.

But it really sucks for people who may have just purchased it. Y'all really should be compensating them since you've basically ripped them off for the time being. I like to add something after I finish my games as singularity today. At least with SM I have some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing on her. Drop few drones on gens(doesn't mean I'm protect a 3gen I just dropping them on gens at the beginning of the match) and save my last drone for loops since I run the two purples where one slows a survivor down when entering a drones area and the other makes me break things faster when in the area.
As the singularity I still don't know what I'm supposed to be doing with his cameras. You can't use them near gens bc of the emps and you can use them in chase but the time it takes to shoot, pod a survivor, and teleport to them I could just hit them normally. That not even counting the fact if they have a emp they just erased what I just did and I have to do it again. Seriously I can't down anyone fast as this killer. By the time I get one down I lose one to two gens. Also I feel like I should play him like plague also since his infection can spread to others but even that feels like a waste of time since they can just emp them off so easily.
At the end of the day at least SM has a clear cut power that you can easily build on and get better without feeling like you completely suck unlike Hux where I feel so terrible after I match I lost it and I don't know what I done wrong. It's day 6 and I feel no more closer to understanding this killer.
All great points. But sadly it's no use trying to argue in favor of SM. The groupthink of the DBD community has already declared her boring and only good at holding a 3 gen and the Singularity is an A tier killer.

Are you actually arguing that Dull Merchant isn't her strongest while holding a 3-gen?
Likewise, there's at least the threat of a 3-gen because if there wasn't, the Survivors would just go do another gen. Her power sucks unless you put Drones somewhere that Survivors HAVE to get rid of them or else they'll be locked in a stalemate forever.
Appreciate the insults though.
Aren't all killers strong at holding a good 3 gen? Of course it's a strong strat as her. I'm just saying that's not the only way to play her, and she can be played in a fun way.
But I'm just gonna stop replying to you now because apparently if I disagree with you, I'm "insulting" you...

I'm right actually, but how about this.
If you place her Drones if 4 corners of the map, away from everything, will you get your power(s)?
Do you really think every time a SM drops a drone at a gen that they're trying to force a 3 gen? That's like saying any time a Trapper or Hag chase a surv off a gen and then surround it with traps that they're trying to force a 3 gen. Just because that's how you would play her doesn't mean that's the most effective/only way to play her.

He definitely can defend gens, but he's also pretty damn good at cutting off choke points and he's got a killer anti-loop.
Uh. So does SM? You drop a drone at a loop and the surv pretty much has to leave it otherwise they get exposed and they're giving her haste. With Singularity, even without EMPs, you can still use line of sight blockers and just pre drop pallets to avoid him insta breaking them. His anti-loop isn't that strong.

So, how do you get Survivors to interact with your Drones if you aren't putting them on gens or totems?
I mean, you still put them at gens but that doesn't guarantee you're gonna get a 3 gen unless you're purposely trying to get a 3 gen. And even in that sense, survs can still strategically try to get gens done that won't result in a 3 gen. It's really not that hard to avoid a 3 gen. Of course you can't gen rush in that case, which is probably why survs cry about getting into a 3 gen against her. They plow through 4 gens without any attempt at a strategy and then wind up in a 3 gen situation.

They found her boring bc they refuse to her like a normal m1 killer. In a lot of people minds the only way to play her is to defend a 3 gen when that not remotely true. I personally play a chase builds with her and have a torn of fun doing so. It just ppl are lazy and don't want to try new things when it proven that it's one way can get them wins even if it's boring.
This TBH. People basically mimic what their favorite streamer says about a killer and leave it at that. Oh well. I'll keep playing her and having a good time doing it.
