Killer Main here with another anecdote - lack of killers is a legitimate issue, but I think most of us are just shifting our play times to avoid the swf queues. Some other events that take place make things harder for killers at all times of day but only a few days in a month.
Rank reset is one of these. Since the BP bonus was added in, with more BP for better ranks, you get a slew of try-hards on both sides near the reset date.
Once the reset happens you the up with people you really have no business going up against.. usually that doesn't last long, but I actually noticed this past week the same people weren't gaining rank like you'd expect.
Personally as killer I don't like dropping into Gold very far if I can help it. With the 1.5xBP going on I suspect people are keeping their ranks artificially high to get better scores. There don't seem to be a lot of streamers or cakes out there, so you leverage what you can.
It's really hit or miss.. like I hit and kill everyone or miss repeatedly. I've been trying to find out if there are any new speed exploits for survivors the last few days... Can't seem to catch up to half of them. I check the perks later and confirm nothing should have been pushing their average, so can only assume silver and bronze have been full of actual reds lately.
Or I need a new controller.

Playing on Xbox One with crossplay turned off.
Infinite loading (more like 6+ minutes) has happened twice. Both times I was playing survivor as Nancy and using one of the pumpkin offerings. Both times it showed disconnecting players when I finally made it past the loading screen.
The first time was several hours ago and two survivors had disconnected. This second time was just now and the killer disconnected. I messaged him and he said he got the long loading screen and quit because of that.
He had a Mori.. I was guessing it was survivors quitting again.. maybe not.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if the game keeps track of the addons you specifically use the most, then adjusts their web spawn rate to force you to buy more webs to get them.
-
It's only OP for low ranks. Hit reds and you might as well run something else.
There really needs to be balancing based around rank and swf, not a one size fits all nerf.
-
It's called an entertainment budget. No different than going to the movies pre-COVID, monthly streaming subscriptions, whatever.
To each their own.
-
You guys must be playing different survivors than I do. About 3/4 of the games I use ruin/undying, they somehow manage to kill undying first, then ruin shortly after. At best I get two jumps before losing both perks... So things slow down about a minute. If it's a small map I might capitalize, but large maps make the aura reads pretty useless.
Unless I'm really hard up on getting kills I go with something else. Just no fun locking half my perks for a gamble on red ranks.

I can see tunneling/camping at endgame phase as a means to try and secure a kill. Any other time, though I see it as a disregard to the fact that you are playing against another person that loaded into your game to also have fun. Which proves my point.
So yeah... Tunneling someone to get them out of the game with 4K points and having them spend more time watching others play or sitting in a lobby for another 5 minutes is pretty sad. And that is why so many people are bringing in DS and UB.
Again... Not saying that all survivors are saints. But toxicity is a vicious cycle and it will only get worse. I can't tell you how many excuses I've heard from tunneling killers. And then they come in here and complain about DS UB and keys. le sigh
Well as far as I can tell, anything a killer does that prevents a survivor from popping gens in a timely fashion is toxic.
Tunneling at any point is a losing tactic. Killers who do it are either completely new, or cutting their losses as best they can.
You'll pardon my lack of empathy for the poor red ranks who might not manage a pip that game.

Yeah, no... If you HAVE to tunnel, it means you are either staying on a chase too long or had a hard time finding someone to start with. That is not you getting gen rushed. That is you not applying pressure.
Besides. The game is set up to give survivors an early advantage BEFORE the killer snowballs pressure. That is why 99% of the time if someone dies early in the game and it turns into a 3v1 the game is lost. Out of the years I've played this game, we as a team have overcome an early death maybe a handful of times.
So enough with this "gen rush" stuff please. If you tunnel it's because your skill as the killer is NOT enough to get you the 4 kills you crave and feel you HAVE to have in order to FEEL like a winner.
Actually my skill as a killer ISN'T good enough to compete with full red rank teams. I can deal with purple okay and green is too easy, so I get why matchmaking is a difficult needle to thread, but when I want ONE kill for whatever reason I feel like, it usually comes down to camping. When the opportunity presents itself I'll tunnel, but with BT and DS it's usually more of a delayed tunnel.
I guess the alternative would be afk wraith to derank, but that's as boring for me as it is for survivors.
Gens are rushed. Sorry you don't like that, but they are. Survivors are camped/tunneled. It is what it is.

How is one toxic without flashlights?
Surely you jest.

That is your advice? Be even more toxic? if killers quit playing like that there would be less toxic survivors. 99% of survivors run DS because most killers tunnel. Same thing with Unbreakable. You hardly ever saw it for the first few years until slugging became a thing.
Will there still be toxic survivors even if all the killers stopped tunneling and being slugging? Probably. Will you come across almost every survivor running UB and DS? No. DS & UB is not the action. It's the reaction.
So keep advising more killers to play like you and there will be nothing but toxicity in this game.
If killers want any actual kills, they have to tunnel or camp or both because of the gen rush and the nature of chases. By the time we hook anyone there's only a couple gens left. Yeah we could go chasing after other survivors, and maybe get a second hook before the gates are powered. Good luck getting a kill at that point.

-
How do I get survivors to disconnect when I'm loading a mori? All they seem to do is work triple hard to stop me from hooking anyone.
I'd prefer they disconnect, thanks.
-
The good teams will take ruin down within half a minute. Might take 90 seconds if you have undying too. I've only seen undying swap totems more than once like once... And I was one the survivor team for that.
Things like pop and dying light only work if you can actually hook people in a reasonable time frame.
Mostly these days I run thana, sloppy, and nurse's... Most of the time Franklin's, even if they aren't holding anything in them lobby, they'll stock up from chests pretty quick, and even the most competent swf teams seem to love going back for their dropped stuff.
Keep people slugged, don't chase for more than a few seconds, and especially don't chase away from everyone else, which is what runners tend to do.
Supposedly mindbreaker is a good anti-exhaustion perk now, but I've been having trouble getting it to with for me.
-
Post game bullies tend to be bullies during the game as well. Not sure why this should be surprising. Only thing that reliably changes a survivor's personality is a good thrashing.. even then you're likely to get trolled.
This is Derided by Daylight people, remember that.
-
PC players are a pain to play against, but with crossplay off all that seems to exist on xbox are red ranks... At rank 10 it just depends on whether I want to be able to contact them for some reason.

I'm convinced that the Archive team either has no clue how DBD is actually played (do they expect everyone to be all friendly and help out with challenges?) or the Archives are a testing ground.
Tome 3 level 3 had a challenge that wanted you to get two gen grabs in a single game while running Discordance. It wouldn't be so bad if grabs actually worked.
The last Tome had a challenge that needed you to escape as the Obsession, which is something that is completely up to RNG. Unsurprisingly, people didn't like that. Guess what the devs did for level 2 of this Tome? They brought it back. All of the feedback on it was just tossed out the window. The only challenges that they listened to feedback to were the get kills with NOED/get safe unhooks during EGC. I think they also looked at a couple of the hook challenges, but those were just reward errors.
Simple challenges like stunning Killers or getting Obsession kills sound good on paper, but they can easily be abused. I've had Killers start acting so scared of pallets that they'll give up a guaranteed hit just because they don't want to be stunned. I'm having to resort to locker DS to get some of these stuns, which hurts me. When I was doing the Obsession kill challenge, nearly every Survivor would refuse to stun me after seeing the first Obsession switch. I had two Survivors straight up choose death rather than stun me. In the end I had to use Moris to get this challenge done.
I still haven't been able to complete a challenge requiring you to complete 4 gens while using some perk... In a single trial.
Even if I can get the other survivors on board (because it'd be impossible to get to four gens and finish them off before all 5 are done), the killer hardly cooperates.
That's really the only one that pisses me off. Plenty of others are a pain in the ass, and I have the same issues getting pallet stuns only on those challenges too.. or I'll survive like 5 games in a row but as soon as I put on an escape a trial challenge, I get tunneled every game, what's up with that?

I don't personally get offended by it, but I know why some do.
Some people take it as a message saying "your time is not worth anything"
I admit, I feel something similar when someone would rather use a medkit, self-care, or inner strength than let me heal them.
You never really know what people are doing unless they're on comms with you. I was healing myself the other day because of a medkit deplete challenge. I'm not an especially competent survivor, but those are the challenges I have left, so I usually just try and hurry through them.
And got yelled at by a teammate who didn't get the heal.
So you know, whatever, not everyone is always out to grief people.

I give hatch or exit gate to at least one survivor in any game where I feel like we all had fun and no one was being douches.
If your swf is so sweaty they're body blocking, sabotaging, or flashlighting even the first hook, I'll just kill all of you up front if I can. No teasing with gates.
If you start teabagging every pallet, or creating constant noise through rushed actions to distract me, or best of all that damn quickswitch in the lobby BS, I will try and return the favor.
Earlier today I carried one of these survivors to the gate as Trapper. While he was opening it I set a trap at his feet. 😆
Yeah I know. One person's vengeance is another person's toxic.
-
Unless you're really good, you don't win many games against redranks. Even with the right build, undying and ruin will be popped fairly quickly. I know a lot of people say to use Dying Light too, but you'll notice you don't get many hooks.
As someone mentioned, best bet is to injure them as often as possible, and use nurse's, sloppy butcher, ruin to stall, and user's choice for the last perk. I usually try to use one that compliments my killer.
Also you want the best add-ons, even if they're red. You can try a mori to thin them out, but I'm my experience if the survivors think you have a mori, they get even nastier.
All in all you want to just maximize your points and not worth about sacrifices too much.
-
Good luck with that.
I tunnel when the situation calls for it, but I will camp any game where I haven't even managed more than a couple hooks by gen 2.
Yes I know, git gud. Unfortunately I hover right where I get red rank swf more often than not. Doesn't seem to matter what I do, I can't catch enough survivors in enough chases. Between safe pallets, godloops, exhaustion perks, and flashlights, sabotaged hooks, keys. Honestly I don't know why they bother bringing toolboxes into the game when they use map offerings for Coldwind, Autohaven, Macmillan, etc. 3 out of 4 games.
If I don't get railed I will avoid camping, but those games are few and far between lately.
-
I would like some way to make use of the hundreds of items in my add-on / offering inventory that I will just never use. Maybe at a certain prestige level you can combine these at some rate to make a better rarity item?
-
I did earlier today. First time ever, probably because I usually get caught before having a chance to throw one.

all u killer mains are still cryin over ur ruin, oh ma ruin got nerfed boohoo, move on and use thantaphobia, ma hooks got sabotaged oh no how awful ppl should do a challenge, plus try and save a team mate from gettin hooked, half of u play so toxic it's unreal and then wonder why survivors start tbaggin, funny how survivors adapt and killers still ask for more nerfs after most pallets in map are removed, maps have been shrunk, loops reworked on the killers favour, toolboxes nerfed, talk about entitled, and we're actually forced to run BT, unbreakable, DS, and IW due to most killers 'strategy' campin and tunnelin off the hook,oh.. and left to bleed out on the floor
I leave you to bleed out BECAUSE I don't feel like being hit with DS.
Not my fault if irony kills.
-
Fairly sure this is satire.
-
It's a method of communication. I'll be honest, I've done it, like the other day when a survivor ran into a far corner on the bottom level of Gideon and every time I would down them I couldn't get them to a hook before they wiggled free. After this happens a couple of times I just go after someone else, but when I did have a chance to hook that person later I slapped them a few times on hook to show my aggravation.

Man I really do hope it's Xenomorph. I've been wanting more monster like characters after I started playing with Demogorgon and I really want to see how they would work facehuggers into the game.
I thought up a method for this a while back. Xeno can drop an egg hear a gen. The longer a survivor is within proximity to the egg, the faster it hatches. If two or three survivors are on the same gen, it hatches very fast and a face hugger flies out attaching to one of them randomly.

Survivor Rule #14: no camping.
Survivor Rule #14(a): no face camping
Survivor Rule #14(b): no gen camping
Survivor Rule #14(c): no gate camping
Survivor Rule #14(d): no proxy camping
Survivor Rule #14(e): no basement camping
Survivor Rule #14(f): no totem camping
Survivor Rule #14(g): no slug camping
Survivor Rule #14(h): no chest camping
Survivor Rule #14(i): no hatch camping
Survivor Rule #14(j): no pallet camping
Have I missed any?

Meh, standing still with Spirit only ever works with lockers. Don't know what kind of potatoes you okay against, but I rarely get a survivor vaulting toward me because they think I'm no longer there. They either wait for me to move, or disappear, or don't bother and turn around and run because they know I might appear behind them any second.
Timing things right when you can't see the survivor isn't really that easy. I suspect things would be better if gen grabs actually worked more often, but thanks for nothing dedicated servers.

-
Slower gen progression for red rank survivors.
Or more gens.
Or both, ideally.
Shorter timer for DS would also be nice, while I'm wishing for unicorns and such. :P
-
Some days I'm so fed up with the post game messaging I actually start blocking players during the lobby countdown. I don't even know if they're going to be jerks or not, it just seems easier to do and prevents me from replying with something that'll just earn me a communications ban later.
Only seems to be an issue with red ranks. I wonder why?
-
Xbox here, I've seen the same. I mean I thought I wouldn't have too much trouble since I could sometimes get a pip against the one or two or sometimes three reds I would face in higher rank lobbies. When I hit red and every survivor was also red all of the time, I couldn't do much but break even on pips.
It as probably as it should be.. I mean if I could outplay 4 players at least as good as I am who are also in game chat to coordinate, then higher ranks would be a cake walk.
Still sucks though.
-
So I'm kind of benevolent at this point.
Killer Main here, though I do run a P3 survivor so I'm not all bad, to say matchmaking is only bad when everyone is in the red (or killer isn't using top end perks and add-ons).
I mean look yeah if you're in a game with red ranks and you are playing a baby Trapper with no add-ons, you're gonna take a beating, and well you should. Matchmaking is bad, but you're also pretty terrible, so it's a wash.
When I hit purple rank I thought things would be harder.. but I just kept doing well so long as I had fully pipped perks and the best add-ons on my killers. In fact I thought maybe things were too easy considering, so long as I kept up with the items.
Now when I hit rank 4.. Jesus help me I needed to play while sitting in a bathtub thanks to all the sweat (theirs and mine). The best I could seem to do was break even - no pip, no pip loss - over a dozen games. I ran out of kit and was getting so frustrated with the little twerps in the 1 and 2 range that I just have it up and went back to purple/green.
Anyways there's my rant. Probably get lost in all the comments, but even so.

It sure is, but it kinda shows how little variety there is in the perk builds doesn't it? Or how little variety there is in terms of playstyle for both sides.
That's a problem. Because that means both sides are afraid to experiment with the pages upon pages of perks they have on every killer. Meaning there will be less fun and interesting games. You already know what to expect from both sides. And there in lies the core issue with DBD's balancing.
Perks are a means to respond to player playstyles. No one wants to play to lose of course, but everyone in this plays like it's eSports ready. Responding to how their opponent will play long before they get into a match with them.
Typically if I want to play a Killer, I just plop whatever perk I have that I think could be fun to see work + BBQ, and see how well I do with it. Same with Survivor if I'm not feeling tryhardy. But I know most people don't play like that. Which can lead to a lot of bland and boring gameplay, which I suspect is the reason behind a lot of those forum threads.
This is how I play. Generally I have two builds, one for max bp regardless of how long the game lasts, and one for max damage if I'm feeling mean and looking for a 4k. The rest of the time I'm going with different combinations to see what if anything I can get out of them just for fun.
It's a game. Why so serious everyone?
-
I know they're improving locations, I just think a few hard rules could be implemented. Not spawning them a specific distance from a generator for instance, or open hallways. Corn fields are fine, but right there as your walk around the institute, not cool. The outside edges of shacks? I mean survivors sounds half their time looping around those things windows to pallets etc.
-
The current system seems just fine to me. Hook suicide or disconnect, valid tactical plays. If someone wants to take that kind of penalty to let a sole survivor out, so be it.
Don't be so hard up for 4k. I say this as killer main. If you aren't enjoying the game because of this kind of thing, take a break.

Again, it's a small notice in a direction, and not one I have room for between making sure I don't get tunnelled out of the game.
There are WAY more problems with NoED than "Just do bones". It requires you to do NOTHING in order to get its effect, there is no warning until the first hit, and a literal speed boost that lasts far longer than any Survivor speed bonuses.
So, yeah. I'll run Small Game and get tunnelled against a killer not running one perk for 9/10 games.
But really, stop rushing the generators and go look for bones. It's not that hard. Sometimes they spawn in sneaky locations, but last week I had mine down in the hallway of a map of all places. It's RNG, so deal.

Again. Invisible bones.
I have searched entire maps, never to find any. I'm not blind, but some of these are just too well hidden.
There's a perk for that.
-
Nothing? No comments at all?
-
I slug if it's situationally beneficial, or I'm running perks for it specifically. I camp when I'm down to 2 gens and haven't even gotten a hook. Some games go like that. They usually get away anyway.
Toxicity is directly proportional to how aggravating the survivors happen to be. If I'm getting a lot of chases and hits in and having fun, maybe I don't even care if I don't get a kill. I still get a ton of BP for my effort. It's those games where I don't even see one it two survivors because they've been hiding in dark corners and doing gens non stop that really piss me off. And of course the runners who always seem to be faster despite technically not, or looping stairs or buildings, or ditching me in corn because their aesthetics are like frigging camo on some maps.
Don't even get me started on Claudette and her brown everything put up against half the outdoor maps' brown color pallettes. It's just infuriating at times, and I get that's the game, but when you can't get a game in as a survivor without waiting for ten minutes for a lobby because all of the killers out there are being scared off the game for that evening, it gets pretty demotivating. I mean yeah is love to switch to killer, I'm killer main, but I'm one of the frightened ones. Five or six games in a row of five minute gen rushing really does get old.
-
Slow down a trial by requiring some gens to need gas. Could be random or based on repair speed or skill check fails or whatever. Having to go find gas cans, maybe spawning in lockers would be cool, would slow things up nicely without being too burdensome.
-
I don't think gens should be blocked. If people want to ignore totems that's fine, there's perks for that. I do think some way to slow down repair time directly proportional to how fast all five are being completed would help. Also I've suggested insanely hard skill checks if repairs happen insanely fast.
Could add another objective. Maybe some generators need gas before being powered on. Could be random, could be based on repair speed or something else. But having to go look for gas cans (Bill would be familiar with that) would be a nice added objective.
-
Also maybe adding in some kind of scale where the faster gens are taken down, the more insanely hard skill checks become?
-
I don't use ruin. Too many other useful perks. Discordance is helpful for finding the groups, and if you're using certain killers (Billy or bubba for instance) you can nail two or three at a time to halt the Genrussians in their tracks.
On the other hand it does get old spawning so far away from survivors that they actually managed to poop a generator before I can even get to that end of the map. Some killers are better for bigger maps and some are good with the smaller ones, but unless I feel like only ever using map offerings, I get what I get for who I've got.
I know survivors want to have fun too, but being gen rushed on four or five games in a row where you get maybe one kill in total and then have to deal with messages from the little brats saying "2 EZ!!" at the end there, just makes me want to play nasty some nights. Camping, slugging, tunnelling, whatever.
-
Yeah some nights are just tough for killers. The good side is you have no wait time for a lobby, but that's only because all of the killers have been scared out of the game and either quit playing or switched to survivor.
