  • Hillbilly and Doc are my favorite to play against, with Plague and Shape very close behind.

  • I get the point you're making, but I'm not sure we can strike a direct comparison. Survivors share everything, but Hag's Traps and Billy's Chainsaw (for example) are completely separate things that they can never share. By numbers alone, there is more to adjust for Killers.

  • I've always loved Doc matches and enjoy playing versus the newer version too. So when I load in and realize it's him, I'm excited, yes, and I look forward to playing out the match. He's killed me every time, so far, but I've been happy about it.

  • I'm a below-average Survivor, so it's relevant (to me) how a team with varying degrees of skill would perform over 100 matches. I think it's a great idea

  • I'd be interested in watching the matches and would love to see the results, personally.

It was before my time too, so I don't know a lot about the conditions at the time and how the current conditions would affect the experience, but I think there's value in trying it.

Who dares to complain about my boi Trapper.

You have problems with 13 tries and not able to escape without add-on, I do have problem with Survivors with 1 try and escape with Green stone.

His power is too much RNG. I may tell without add-on Survivor should escape with a small RNG as 3 and 4 tries (9-12sec), with Green stone as 5-6 tries (15-18sec)

On the flip side of that, I was using Up The Ante T3 plus Vigo's Jar of Salty Lips and failed 12 tries to get out of a trap. I was in tears laughing by the time Trapper got me and hung me up down in the basement. Not only should I have paid more attention at the killer shack (of all places) but holy cow, whatever kind of "luck" that was, I don't want it anymore!

As for Ghostface, I find his reveal to be dodgy. Sometimes I don't even realize he's on the screen and I start revealing the poor dude, or I start a reveal and spin the camera away and it finishes revealing anyway, or I get him right in my metaphorical crosshairs and no reveal happens. Most of the time, I feel bad for revealing him because I didn't mean to. Dude's just trying to get an expose & down -- just let the man do his work, Game.

  • Out of curiosity, how often do people escape via hatch with 5 gens left, I wonder?

I think I haven't made it out in that situation even once -- the Killer starts EGC before I can find hatch, or I finally get a gen turned on while the Killer is looking for/waiting by the hatch. Then I die after, but at least I die with a gen on, man!

That outcome is fine by me, zero complaints, it just makes me wonder how often the deus ex machina actually comes through?

  • Heck, no I won't run it. I love Doc, but I'm not changing my build just for him.

I'll be using Restraint Class III add-ons when I play him, so I'll see phantom docs all over the map to track Survivors' paths, regardless of Calm Spirit players. Should be fun!

  • Friend, I am really sorry you had that experience -- that's just awful. I know I've seen some funky matchmaking but that's terrible.

Also, 3 BT, 3 Adrenaline, 3 DS, but Ruin is clearly the problem perk...?

  • I don't carry in any items and I don't search chests, so I use perks to speed up my actions and the actions of other survivors:

    Babysitter

    Distortion

    Botany Knowledge

    Leader

Another one I use a lot is:

    Stakeout

    Autodidact

    Kindred

    Empathy

    On Doc, I use:

    Iron Maiden

Fire Up (I always lose gens with Doc anyway, so might as well go vroom!)

Bloodhound (I can't see very well)

    Distressing

  • I play this game really poorly, so I have lots of struggles (I'm the potato everyone hates to have on their team -- I don't mean to be or want to be, but I am).

Solo queue teammates are the most demanding struggle I find as Survivor. I can't count the times I've been sandbagged, left to die on first hook, farmed off the hook if they deign to save, and all the usual woes. But also, learning how to understand and recognize safe pallets, tiles, windows, etc. has been difficult. I also struggle with situational awareness.

  • I am super-crazy inattentive and easily distracted, so I use Kindred AND Bond (or Empathy, if I don't have Bond on a Survivor). Sometimes, I put on Spine Chill with it too and then have a 'floating' 4th perk, because I'm that bad at minding my surroundings.

  • I am just a giant mistake, tbh. I main Survivor (about 600 hours, I'd guess, though I don't know because PS4) and my biggest flaws are:

    • I take huge exposure risks just for the thrill of it
    • I'm way too impatient (for example, I get bored hiding and will go on a gen when it's not smart).
    • I don't understand how to recognize or use safe pallets, tiles, looping, etc.
    • I am overly altruistic

  • I've been delighted with the dedicated servers on PS4. My wait times in Survivor lobbies are only a few minutes longer than before, but this is in exchange for green ping every match and noticeably smoother gameplay. I've been super happy and impressed.

  • I've thought about this all afternoon and I'm not sure I have any new ideas to bring, but it seems important points are:

45% - 80% of Killers are using Hex: Ruin at any given time. That's HUGE. Even if you don't use Ruin personally, it doesn't change that many/most people do use it. Not acknowledging this dismisses the bulk of the Killer player base. Clearly it has an important effect on the match, maybe even a critical effect for the majority of these players.

When I spawn next to a lit totem, I leave it, because spawning in beside a lit totem often enough for this to be a consideration tells me I shouldn't mess with it. However, most players don't do that. So maybe remove the 'Hex' portion of the perk, as many have suggested? If even a single survivor brings in Detective's Hunch, there's no way that hex totem will stand until the end.

Alternatively, in addition to its other effects, add more time to gens as part of the new Hex: Ruin, perhaps scaling back the added time as more gens are completed? That way, it's justifiably strong as a Hex and addresses the issue that makes a commanding number of Killers use it? I saw that suggestion in here a few times too, and as a Survivor main, I think that's a great idea. My wife & I work on gens together with Prove Thyself (no toolboxes), so she can earn more bloodpoints, and it goes WAY too fast without a slow down.

    Here are the key phrases:

"As Shock Therapy and Static Blast are now linked to separate inputs,"

" he can now use Shock Therapy more easily as he doesn't have to switch stances to gain access to it. So we've added a brief pause after using Shock Therapy before he can attack or use another ability. "

GOT IT! Thank you! I need to hire a highlighter, apparently! Was having a hard time picking out the relevant points from the blocks of text. Always my downfall.

  • I read it six or seven times, but my reading comprehension isn't great. I'll read it a few more times to see if I can understand it better -- thanks!

  • I don't play killer much, but all the time I have is in Doc play. Maybe I'm misunderstanding this because I don't play that role much, but he's pretty much relegated to M1 killer all the way now, isn't he? You can't really use this static blast in chase to deny interactions and the slow down and cool down on it sound significant

  • I have been playing a year and a half (Devotion 3, PS4 doesn't tell me my hours, but I'd guess 500ish?) and I still play quite poorly. I try to learn by reading, watching others, and practicing, but I suspect even at Devotion 11, I'll still play poorly. I'm inattentive to my surroundings, don't know my way around maps, overly altruistic, and impatient (can't sit for long, waiting).

As long as my teammates don't mind and I don't treat them or the Killer in a negative way, I'm okay with being bad at the game. Some of us just are. Also, Edgar's point is right on: playing while reading & interacting with chat divides your attention and makes you more prone to error. But as long as everyone is happy watching & playing, it seems okay. Have a good day, bud! ❤️

Yes with all the stealth killers becoming so popular, it’s sort a requirement.

Spine Chill III has no distance difference over Spine Chill I, so purple Spine Chill can't tell you the Killer is looking your way any earlier. It's not an aura read, so Open-Handed can't alter the distance either.

The only thing that changes is the speed percentage gain (2%/4%/6%) when the Killer is looking in your direction within 36 meters, but it's always 36m regardless of Spine Chill tier, offerings, add-ons, other perks, etc. There is no way to make it work with the Killer farther out.

  • I use Babysitter + Distortion quite often, Better Together + Prove Thyself, and Breakout + Mettle for when I'm horsing around. My wife and I play 2 petrified oak, Saboteur on that last and I get her to put on Boil Over. Never works (we don't play well) but it's a of fun to die trying

  • My instant DC perk is Vigil. If I even suspect a Survivor is running it, I'll DC immediately. That's just me, of course. Too OP.

  • Does that mean new Kindred won't show an Insidious camper anymore? I play on PS4, so testing before release isn't an option.

  • Bloodpoints for me too. Just under 1,000 BPs in the Survival category is enough to make it worth the effort.

It never occurred to me that it might be perceived as a spiteful action and I've certainly never meant it as one -- makes me wonder now if that's why some people beat me on the hook during struggle.

  • I was disappointed to learn the in-lobby ranks was a bug to be fixed. It's handy to know in solo queue if a co-player is inexperienced or has been away from the game for a while.

It's nice to help and look out for newer players too. For example, we got matched up with a Rank 20 and Rank 18 who turned out to be little kids that had hardly any idea what was going on. We were able to help them because we knew to expect lower level play based on those ranks.

I always want new people to enjoy the game and come back again

  • I'm a Survivor main and I usually just smack my forehead and say, "NOED!", then I die, and it's all good. I'm always in solo queue (or semi-solo: my wife and two randos), sometimes we get all five totems, sometimes we don't. Sometimes we die before NOED even gets a chance to kick in.

I suppose the main reason for disliking it is that you can play well the whole game, then get blindsided by a lucky smack at the end. One killer main I know calls it "No One Escapes Skill" -- I think he hates it more than I do.

Used to be Sloppy, Thanat, Bamboozle, and Pop on Legion, but...Well, Sloppy isn’t gonna work anymore on them, so.

I never would expect Bamboozle on Legion -- that's a fun idea and seems effective too

  • I'm seeing this happen on PS4 quite a bit in the last month or so. It'll show me and my wife that we're disconnected from the host, and it acts like the Killer has DC'd (shows him with the DC icon and zero points at the end), but they're almost always winning or in the middle of an action when it happens, so an actual DC is unlikely. Also, there's no apparent ping issues in lobby or leading up to the disconnected from host event.

For example, I could hear the whoosh of Trapper's machete behind me, but the game booted us and showed Killer as DC'd. On PS4, it's almost impossible to be taking an action and disconnecting at the same time (and he was doing a good job, so there was no obvious reason to DC).

Similar with a Freddy match, he had two sacrificed, me on a hook, and carrying my wife to hook her and the game did the disconnected from host message. Again, it's physically difficult to DC on PS4 while mid-action (and he was owning us big time, so why would he). I really hope it's not affecting them, because they're earning their points and pips fairly and then appear to be treated as voluntary DCs

On the Survivor side, we seem to keep rank pips, items, and any Archives challenge progress, but BP payout isn't always present. I'm hoping same happens for the Killer, but reading this thread, it seems maybe not. I hope it gets fixed soon, because I hate for people to play well, play clean, and get punished for it

  • I had a killer on PS4 who is a streamer I know. My name on PSN is different than on Twitch, so he couldn't have known who I was, but he was a well-mannered Wraith all the same. I died, of course (because I always do), but it was a clean, fun match. Being a streamer didn't seem to make him play any differently -- it was nice.

  • Neither Killers nor Survivors should be responsible for balancing the game or making it fun for others. If it's fun for you, that's the important part. Some things might seem toxic to one person but innocuous to someone else, but that's bond to happen. There are so many of us, there's no universal way to make everything fun all the time.

I have the most fun safely unhooking my teammates and healing them and I don't care if I escape, but my wife's idea of a fun game is totally opposite. I can't make her have fun playing my way or vice versa. If someone is having fun camping and tunneling, we can't control that or even appeal to it, we can only let it be and move on.

Peace out, guys, and keep having fun doing what you do. All of us are unique and deserve to enjoy ourselves and it's up to us as individuals to make it happen, each in our own way. ❤️

  • Thanks, guys! I was just curious some ideas behind the occurence and this helps explain some alternative reasons.

I've had some Clowns and Huntresses do it and assumed it was for aim (I'm usually yellowish rank and on PS4, so practice seemed logical). Although a good "smack" because I was annoying makes sense too.

I don't mind when it happens because it's not like it affects the outcome or hurts anything -- I'm the last Survivor and I'm hooked and not going anywhere, so it's like the DBD equivalent of a Snickers, I thought maybe.

    Thanks for the input!

  • I only match swap to be an idiot. It's funny when I smack into a twin's face while we're trying to hide behind the same rock. I don't bring in items and I don't do it to troll, only to amuse myself and maybe get a laugh when we magically transform into the Clumsy Brothers or Clumsy Sisters Quartet

  • Decent! Played normally and mostly safety pipped, which was fine, and must've cleared a couple million BP. Had more trouble with random teammates than with Killers, tbh.

  • Body blocking is kinda scuzzy, but if it's several of us in the basement (which happens fairly often as we're not on voice comm so more than one person tries to help a hooked ally), I usually just wave the Killer down to come hook me and they're good sport enough to accept rather than continue blocking the stairs for everyone. I don't care if I lose a pip, it's not like it can't be earned back, and it gives the other Survivors a chance to get out.

Should this degree of blocking happen during EGC, it's a bigger problem because it forces all the Survivors to die for what was meant to be a single Altruistic act (acts which are encouraged in both BP payout and ranking, so call us stupid all you like, but the gamble is fun and worth some extra BP). But generally speaking, as long as the Killer is willing to move to come get me as a guaranteed hook, I have no issue with it. The conflict here is the Killer's unwillingness to move for any reason.

It looks like one of the previous comments mentions that the user was temp-banned for this, which suggests body blocking to that extreme isn't tolerated or ignored by BHVR, when reported.

  • I am Rank 15 and have been facing Rank 1 and Rank 2 Killers more often than my own Ranks. It's discouraging and not fun, for me, and I'm sure for the Killers too. I'd much rather wait an extra ten or even twenty minutes for a match that doesn't see me dead in less than three minutes. It's crazy to make ranking up harder and then give us opponents ten or more ranks higher. Not balanced and so maddening.

  • Haha, okay thank you! You can tell how often I'm the last Survivor!  :D
