I don’t understand this post. Everyone already knew this.
Lots of us do, for sure, but then there are those dozens of end game chats with people who are jerks unnecessarily---you know how it is.
-
Mostly, I only see killers in hook proximity because they know a survivor is nearby already, or because a survivor is running them in the hook area.
They may linger a moment to break a pallet or gen, or to set traps, but it hasn't been a huge issue (on PS4), that I've observed; I also use Kindred III with Open-Handed III
-
I still can't do the old flashlight blinds or the stun with head-on. Everything else has been okay on both survivor & killer tracks
-
I put people before personal gain when doing the challenges because there will be other matches. To use the given example, if I don't escape this time, that's okay, maybe I will the next.
If I make even a wild guess that a killer is trying to do a challenge (e.g. staying near the basement for the whole match), I will try to help them too, not just my teammates.
My wife absolutely will not put anyone else ahead of her challenges or escapes (including me), and that's ok too.
What do you do, @CLAUDETTEINABUSH?

From my experience on Xbox...not much camping or tunneling at the Purple Ranks (hasn't been at Red for awhile)..maybe 2 games out of 50.
It's similar (in my experience) on PS4. Purple ranked killer matches tend to be more interesting, with camping & tunneling tactics less frequently used.
Either way, I've been having the same general experience overall in solo on PS4, so I can sympathize with OP's burnout. But I'm glad not everyone is going through it!
-
Tunneling and camping are rampant on PS4, which is where OP plays too, I think.
Even before the Ruin nerf, I dreaded getting too high in rank because there's so much camping & tunneling with red ranked killers there.
-
Dwight's bicycle pants...I just can't deal with them. There's nothing wrong with them, exactly, but they distress me. Oh, and I can't coordinate them with his other cosmetics.
-
I switched to playing more killer recently for extra BP, for the archives challenges, and for the faster queue times. Because I don't care if I rank up, I find it relaxing rather than stressful. Generally, I get at least 2K, but even if it's 0K, it's still fun and profitable.
-
Favorite memories:
- I rescued THREE hooked people during EGC and all four of us escaped. I don't even remember who the killer was (I think maybe Hag), but I was on point with my altruism that game. I did six unhooks, including three after EGC started.
- My wife & I put on Up The Ante III + two Vigo's Jar of Salty Lips (that Vigo is such a nice guy). We were just messing around testing unhook percentages and I unhooked myself right into Huntress's arms. She looked at me for this loooooong pause and then left me alone to go chase Steve. She killed me in the end, but I was grateful for a chance to run around more, instead of me just getting tossed back on the hook. That really long pause floored me, though. It was priceless
- The Hillbilly who very carefully examined each basement hook with me on his shoulder. He'd look at one, shake 'no', then inspect the next and shake 'no', etc. On the fourth, he nodded and tossed me on, but I was laughing so hard I couldn't even struggle. He didn't take but a few extra seconds doing it and I was reminded that a playful human being was on the other end. Made my day
-
I run Empathy so I can tag into a chase, especially long chases. I want to relieve the looper and offer them a chance to heal and do other stuff, including unhook me when I go down like the sack of potato I am. It also is good to help ensure the killer gets their BBQ stack.
I completely understand the fun & challenge of not being detected and don't expect everyone to do it, but I try to compromise. Of course, this backfires sometimes when I'm tunneled to death in 1-2-3 hooks, back-to-back, but if I wait long enough before taking over a chase, even that works out okay.
-
I am Rank 20 - 18 killer on PS4 and get survivors up to 10+ ranks above me (purple & green ranks) roughly every other match.
Sometimes I luck out and get only yellow & white ranks a couple matches in a row, but it's all over the place.
So far, I had a Rank 6 as my highest while I was at Rank 19, so I guess I'm lucky no Reds yet!
-
You could spend the time looking for the hatch so you can close it for points, instead. It might benefit you as survivor too, so you can learn the hatch spawns. A lot of the hatches I've slammed shut as killer, I can recall later as survivor, so I'm not running around in a panic searching.
As killer, I spin in circles at the exit gate to show survivors 'no hard feelings'. I get destroyed A LOT, so I'd be a mess if I actually cared about them blinding me, pallet stunning me, teabagging, pointing, etc. Also, I feel like the best 'revenge' on someone trolling for salt is to not be salty.
Good luck and I hope you keep having fun, despite that stuff!
-
If the joy for you is in escaping, that's okay. People can't dictate what you find fun about the game. I guess some people will get indignant because they think of it as a team game -- which it is, but it's not. That's one of the cool things about it, I think.
Anyway, you're under no obligation to endanger yourself to rescue teammates, especially if the odds aren't looking good. Just because they would doesn't mean they should expect it in return. You're not doing anything wrong by enjoying the game your own way.
-
It hasn't been especially fun lately, no, because the atmosphere has grown really unpleasant. I'm one of those people who doesn't play especially well, but I'm respectful.
I don't bring in items often (the occasional medkit because you can't always rely on solo queue survivors to heal you), I run non-meta perks, and spend the first 30 - 60 seconds of the match looking for totems so the killers can have time to set up, no teabagging, all the polite things. I run in to make safe unhooks, use Empathy to find and heal teammates, and use it to rotate in on chases to give teammates a break. On occasions when the Killer and I are finding the hatch at the same time, I back up so they can close it uncontested and get their 4K.
For this, I get bad or rude co-survivors, camped, tunneled, or early mori in the majority of my matches. Had one hag put on Franklin's and a pink mori for my super threatening yellow medkit. The atmosphere has been unusually negative on PS4 lately. Add bs hits, game glitches, and sandbagging, and it's a recipe for me to turn off DBD and play something else.
After Comcast went out once, then the modem reset later, I ended up playing through a whole match with the SACRIFICED splash taking up a fifth of my screen for fear of an even longer timeout by DCing to fix the glitch. Needless to say, I couldn't see anything in the entire upper left quadrant of my screen and ended up sacrificed, but hey, at least I didn't commit the ultimate evil in this game and DC, right?
NOTE: I'm not saying this is all matches, or that I deserve anything in particular (breaks, escapes, a save, etc.), but if I behave respectfully, normally I'd receive respectful behavior in return. Lately, not so much.
-
I play a lot, but I'm not good at the game. If I can learn to juke and run Billy, anyone can. And I mean that sincerely, not in a cheeky way.
For me, it meant learning to run towards triple tires, trees, and other obstacles, rotating my view to watch the chase from above (to the best of my ability), and then just practicing. I make mistakes and get downed, go out of position, etc., sure, but it felt like a real accomplishment the first time I got a Billy to break chase. You can do it too!
-
I don't find pink mori to be rare on PS4. Killers find & run them way more often than survivors bring in or use pink keys.
My Quentin is Level 50 with only one perk left to get before all are obtained and he has five pink keys. My Doc is Level 38 and has 10 pink moris already, and averages 1 - 2 per bloodweb level.
That said, the reason Quentin has all five pink keys still is because I won't use them in a match -- I agree with the OP, they're unbalanced. But I think their general use is not as common as it seems. The escape with key tome challenge appears to be skewing things temporarily.
I'm only about 1,000 hours into survivor and usually red/purple ranks, but I can't remember the last time my rando teammates opened the hatch with a key and left me behind, it's been months at least
-
Out of necessity, I hardly ever vault anymore. Window hits are so ridiculous. I can have both feet on the ground on the other side after a vault and be a full meter away from the original vault location and STILL get hit. Boy, that irks me. I don't care that Doc is 99 feet tall and carrying a baseball bat, he shouldn't hit me from six feet away on the other side of a vault.
Other than that, jerk teammates in solo queue agonize me. I had a Doc down me and leave me slugged super early in a Fractured Cowshed match (I got stuck running in a straight line). He left me there, assuming someone would heal me onto my feet, and chased my wife around.
Even though they could see the little obsession legs snapping around her pic on the HUD, neither teammate would come off their shared gen to tap me onto my feet. It wouldn't have taken either more than a total of ten seconds to run in, tap, then run back.
Doc came back after giving my wife a whack, saw I was still there, and let me onto my feet again because those two couldn't be bothered. He got 4K, but I was happy for a chance to earn some points before going. When the Killer's altruism score is higher than your rando teammates', it's frustrating.
-
Nice, I like theirs. Was just curious about your preference, thank you!
-
It's not at all toxic. A mori is never toxic as it's part of expected and authorized gameplay.
Many survivors are thankful when killers opt to wait until death hook to use a mori, so they can play out their game all the way and not lose out on BP. You're making a kind choice, one that you're not obligated to make.
-
Do you switch to a specific killer to use a specific mori, or do you have no killer or mori preference?
-
On PS4, Freddy and Ghostface matches are my least favorite. Doctor and Plague are my favorite
-
I'm a Rank 20 Killer on PS4 and getting mostly green rank survivors (and sometimes purple ranks).
Thankfully, I can get them hooked enough to do most Archives challenges, but yikes. On the flip side, we are purple/red ranks (me & wife) and getting crazy numbers of white rank Killers.
-
In solo queue, I expect it from everyone.
It's not behavior I model or endorse, leaving one person to do all the work while the other hides and Urban Evades, but it happens sometimes.
I don't have the patience for outwaiting that crap, so I usually end up dying trying to fix a gen while they putz around. I think it's a waste of time and missed points, and I don't understand it, but I just move on when it happens.
If I'm on the hook and another Survivor signals they have the hatch, I'm happy to let go and give them a crack at escaping through it -- unless they were a complete jerk during the match.
-
Doc. Madness is entertaining and I don't have to work hard at finding people
-
It's not tunneling, no. A lot of Killers do it to punish the hook farmer and deny them their 'safe unhook' bonus.
Sometimes Killers who down the unhooked person let you get healed back onto your feet while they're busy chasing Farmer Brown.
I hate hook farming way more than I hate being slugged, so I usually wait under the hook to see how it shakes out.
Often, I'm healed back onto my feet, but occasionally I'm thrown back onto the hook again instead, which sucks, but onto the next match we go.
-
The original post says to fix slugging for the 4K by speeding up the bleed-out timer when it's down to two survivors.
That might make a lot of players happier on both sides.
-
I'm sort of having the opposite issue (I'm sorry, guys).
On mobile, there are so many words without pictures to break them up, I'm having a hard time differentiating titles. My brain is like, "here's a giant wall of text, have fun making sense of it."
Granted, this is a fault with my brain rather than the forum, but I'm guessing there's no way to restore some sort of picture beside each topic? Even if it's some generic bullet point, at least it would be a visual cue to split up the subjects.
It's ok if not, but wanted to ask, at least. Thanks!
EDIT: Switched my phone from landscape to portrait and can see the stars on the right of each topic, so never mind. That's good enough!
-
Westerns are my favorite genre immediately after horror, so I can't not buy this dude. That said, I play on PS4, so landing shots will be a nightmare.
-
I was having the same issue, so posted pics of his lore in this thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/131103/where-can-i-find-info-on-the-new-chapter#latest
-
I see what you mean, but I think they went for a 'frontier town' feel rather than a 'farm country' feel. Dodge City, Kansas is a good example. Kansas is firmly Midwest but was still a frontier, back in the day
Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday (not the forum member), Bat Masterson, and the James brothers all called Dodge City 'home' for a while.
This is a photo of Dodge City, KS circa 1875. Very cool!
BHVR did a nice job bringing that particular mood to the map & character, it looks like.
-
I thought this seemed like a fun and creative way to address some map issues until the maps themselves can be addressed in full. It keeps fresh some aspects of problem-solving and gameplay too.
I main survivor, so I don't have any valuable perspectives as a killer, but overall, it's a cool idea
-
I find it goes in cycles. Yesterday, out of 10 games, 8 of mine had really unpleasant co-players (more unpleasant killers than survivors, which is unusual).
Some days I get loads of unpleasant fellow survivors and chill killers, sometimes everything is chill. I think a person's mood influences their interpretation of events too. It's all okay, whatever people need to do
-
I think for me it's usually yelling "HOW!?" instead of 'what' (with the full interrobang), but I feel it!
If those examples were rare, it would be easier to accept, but it's so pervasive lately.
-
The Shackled
The Fettered
-
I'm awed by good Trapper mains. I think that's the coolest thing -- I can't imagine the patience and practice a skillful red ranks Trapper main needs.
-
I started a scenic screenshot collection to pass the time while I'm slugged.
It's on PS4, so they're not great quality or especially close, but it's fun to crawl around and get differing perspective pictures of things I'm too busy to enjoy while ambulatory Sometimes I can get pretty shots of the moon overhead with shadowy buildings looming in the background.
People will get tired of it after a week or two, not to worry.
-
This may not be good advice; the more experienced players will offer better ideas. I'm a Rank 20 Killer with only a few perks unlocked. Because I main Doc and have limited resources, when I see 2 or more flashlights in the lobby, I put on Overwhelming Presence.
Depending on its tier, Overwhelming makes them go through their flashlights 80/90/100% faster (when they're in your terror radius). Flashlights only last a few seconds that way, limiting the abuse potential.
Good luck, and hopefully you get more enjoyable matches more often!
-
I'm one of those stupidly altruistic players who will try to help another one, even in the most unfavorable situations. Why? Because for me, the thrill of getting that other person out the door once in a while is the rush I play this game for. I do NOT expect it in return.
My wife absolutely won't come back for me if she's got the door open. It's teabag-teabag-point-point-leave, and it's all good. I'm sorry some people have been salty at you for that -- it's silly.
-
Oh, these are great ideas, guys -- thank you so much!
We're just sitting down to play now, so I'll try some different suggestions from here and see if some work better for us than others.
-
I often don't live long enough to get the benefit of Adrenaline. DH is a bit dodgy, not always working when I want it to, DS just screams "tunnel me!", as does BT.
Also, one of the reasons I find DBD fun to play is because of all the different combinations of perks to try out. So even if I run a meta perk (never more than one at a time), I get bored of it quickly and try something else.
-
Doc has always been my main and my favorite. I'm not good at him, but he's the most natural for me to use (for some reason), and the most fun -- even more so since his changes. It's nice to move at a steady rate and I like thinking about how and when to use static blast versus a standard static field.
I first picked him (and picked him first) because I love his aesthetic, his cosmetics, and the sound when he laughs. Too bad I'm terrible at playing Killer!
-
Wife & I hover around purple ranks (I should be yellow, to be honest, but that's the current ranking system), but we are getting Rank 17, 18, 19 Killers consistently, with some rank 15 & 16 Killers.
I am a Rank 20 Killer (if there were a rank lower than 20, I'd be it, trust me) and am usually getting Rank 11 - Rank 13 Survivors.
-
Old Ruin meant I at least had to pay attention enough to hit my skill checks. The current gens go too fast (they don't take long at all), but not fast enough (because they're mind-numbingly dull without any additional challenges). I end up spacing out holding the R1 button on PS4.
Killers, in an effort to make the most efficient use of time, tend to chase me down immediately off the hook and throw me on again back-to-back until I'm dead. It's usually a combination of bad judgment (or plain apathy) by random teammates farming me and the killer being pressured to perform. In any event, it's not fun to play right now.
I've been finding the current pace & atmosphere pretty dull and unpleasant, so have semi-avoided playing since the Ruin nerf was announced. It's no fun waiting 10 - 20 minutes to get into a match that I either space out or get taken out in 2k bloodpoints.
-
I use it a lot!
I'm acutely aware of crows, both as killer and survivor, so not disturbing them is a huge benefit in my book. You can locate crouching killers with them and make educated guesses about where survivors may be hiding by watching them land.
Not only that, Calm Spirit works great with Iron Maiden, Doc in general, Infectious Fright, etc., and people tend to regard it as less 'toxic' than many other survivor perks, so it isn't as inflammatory to run. Plus, it's always in effect rather than situational (as opposed to perks that rely on being injured, for example, or exit gates powering)
-
I can't bear to bring in toolboxes most of the time. I don't want to make the Killer dread a match before it even starts. I don't play Killer to rank up, so I can only imagine the dread and frustration looking at a lobby and seeing everyone carrying something.
Ultimately, I ended up using a few toolboxes for the 'four gens in one match with dark sense' business done, then a couple more doing the hook sabotage for Tome II, but it seems silly to bring them in with gens flying as they do.
When I'm Doc (which is pretty much all the Killer I play) and I see four medkits/flashlights/toolboxes, I put on Overwhelming Presence so the item consumption rate goes up and Survivors get minimal use from their items. I don't have Franklin's Demise, so it's my next best tool.
-
This turned out to be harder than I expected. There are so many perks that don't have enough benefit or synergy with other perks to justify taking up slots
SURVIVOR: Vigil -- I love the idea, but its impact is almost nil
Honorable Mention: Boil Over
KILLER: Monstrous Shrine -- Poor ol' thing, just lay it to rest
Honorable Mention: Unnerving Presence
-
I have died lots of times on PS4 because of the struggle mechanic. If my thumb comes down wrong on the 'X' button wrong, it won't count and I die. I broke my right thumb once, so it's a painful way to get points and I'm prone to missing a push because of it -- I do it, of course, but I wish there was a better way
-
I dread when my solo queue teammates run BT. Without fail, the Killer hits me and then just tunnels me through the whole timer, rendering it completely useless.
I've had it work once in 18 months of play, against a Hag -- and I mean literally once, no exaggeration. Every other time has been a tunnel fest, so I wouldn't miss that perk even a little bit
-
Bond can be good in solo. I use lots of aura/information perks (Kindred, Empathy, Spine Chill, Detective's Hunch, etc.) in solo because I don't have voice info from other players to help me.
Bond can help you find a teammate to heal you, or help you to avoid outing teammates while you're in a chase. Although the range is much smaller than Empathy's, the ability to see both healthy and injured survivors is better
Really, you can pair it with anything. It's constantly in effect, not situational, and can be great for healing/unhooking builds. I use Botany Knowledge with it, so I can find others easily and help them heal, or take a hit for them after a Babysitter unhook and lead the Killer in the opposite direction
-
My biggest 'damn it' is when I spawn in, and within the first three steps I take, Spine Chill lights up
Also, when I have a daily ritual to heal others and then it turns out to be a Plague match
Finally, if several of us bring Inner Strength and the totems are gone
