  • Even without taking any of the other issues into account, the last thing matchmaking needs is more variables that can absolutely torpedo it and make it completely throw in the towel. Already happens enough the moment someone dodges or waits 2 seconds "too long" in queue.

  • Bless this perk for all the "fully use up x toolboxes challenges" 😄

  • Sounds pretty easy to spot as fake, considering for chat offenses you don't even need to supply any sort of additional evidence. This implies they have the logs available, gonna be pretty obvious the "racist player" didn't actually say anything racist within like 10 seconds of opening the report.

  • I get noticably more dodging when on my P100, so I've honestly just stopped using them. I do NOT want to be """responsible""" for churning the lobbies I get into through backfill logic more than needed.

Remove it from pre-game lobby entirely. Not a toggle, that'd be worse than the current system as hidden prestige would be auto assumed to mean P100 no matter what it truly is. Post-game? Probably fine, besides the 3 people that'd actually be strange enough to make "confirmed p100 players" lists I doubt it'd lead to much more than some "ur bad at game and p100?? lol??" trash talk which happens already anyway.

  • Because if someone really want to trash talk, if there's no "obvious reason" to do so they will simply conjure a reason from the void.

I understand but I mean. The ban in the game, if it is already applied to the other account and shares the library with me. Does that ban that is already in place affect me in any way?

If you both own the game, it won't be shared in the first place for either of you - you'll both be playing on your own copies.

I can not say anything for sure about how this interacts with bans or really any other details, I'd try asking somewhere on Steam.

  • I hope I'm wrong, but I feel the #1 thing it would actually accomplish would be seperating the actual competitive mindset high skill players that welcome stiff competition from the "pubstomper" style ones, the ones that go 110% but also immediately scream at 130 decibels the moment they run into opponents doing the same.

Guess who would actually go to a functional ranked mode promising tougher competition. Not the ones that would read "casual" and actually see "a mode where I get to try as if my life depends on it but no one else is allowed to do it"

  • DBD doesn't use VAC, so if it's an actual vac ban they have and they claim it's from DBD they're straight up lying. If you meant a "game ban", then I honestly don't know and would heavily encourage you to reconsider family sharing with someone that has a history of cheating to begin with. Both for the safety of your own account and to not "help" them cheat in additional games/ban evade in some way.

I know VAC bans can be "transferred" if someone you share a game with gets one, it's on the family sharing FAQ page. I have no idea how it works for "game bans" like what a permaban from DBD would show up as.

  • Could be cool for a game mode (preferably one with randomly assigned survivors or something). Like one where the survivors have preset perk loadouts and "roles" like an altruistic healer, a "tank", aura specialist and whatever else.

But no thanks otherwise. At the moment there's mostly just the two base model shapes/bases/whatever used for girls and dudes, and differences in the noises they make (which might be "equalized" in a future patch anyway). I don't want to see "meta survivors" both because I like having people mostly just pick whoever appeals to them for whatever reason, and there's also the very wacky possibility that if any of the meta survivors had an useful enough ability killers might even dodge them.

  • Is it some sort of closely guarded arcane secret that people always have and always will DC/hook suicide on the ptb if the new patch includes a new killer and they end up not going against the killer they want to try playing against? Say what you want about that as I personally do find it a bit silly when other killers/content get changes in the same PTB myself. But jumping straight ot the most tinfoil hat tier theory available is also pretty silly.

  • It sounds infinitely more likely that they were quite simply trolling and trying to waste your time but nah, go for the most tinfoil-maxxed take possible I guess.

  • Remove the Freddy interaction. That's it, while I love it from a thematic perspective that's such a specific middle finger to a particular killer that it's just silly.

  • Actually let matchmaking do its job and make big changes to backfill functionality (or better yet, nuke it entirely) is the #1 way, but I'm fully aware that's likely a delusional pipe dream. Would be reverted in under a weeek as the "game too sweaty!" tsunami rages as it always does when they nudge sbmm even a little bit.

So since that's likely off the table, show perks or at LEAST communicate info that massively changes how perks are used. If you know the Adam that just went 1st hook has active Deliverance ready, you know he's chilling and can self unhook last second if needed. If you know the Bill on the ground has Unbreakable even before studying how fast he recovers, you can let him get up himself if needed. If you know it's the Meg on the hook's Kindred and not your own that lets you see auras, you know that all the other survivors see them too (VERY useful information).

Preferably an easy way to see loadouts in general, but I do totally recognize that showing them pre-game might be a bad idea as unless backfill logic gets nuked from orbit the last thing we need is more dodging. At least put them on the in-game pause menu, maybe an option to show them next to the survivors down in the corner (toggle as I 100% agree that could end up looking cluttered) but communicate very high impact stuff like "yo the guy on the hook can unhook himself with Deliverance" as mentioned above in seperate ways.

  • A lot of the time I feel at that point it's an issue with someone assuming malice where there is none.

I'm sure there's one person that "actually meant git gud!" when they said gg to me out there but I simply can't view it as anything else than at absolute worst an admittingly hollow formality kinda thing. Considering this is a game where they could've spammed ggez kekw uninstall trashcan at 10 lines per second to me and in their next 1000 matches without catching a single ban for it, I'll take the "ironic" gg any day of the week personally.

  • Challenge to throw/break pallets, achievement for blinding killers (predrop strong pallets and pallet blind is the easiest farm method), that kinda thing.

  • Matchmaking is indeed silly. "Gives up" way too easily because someone dodged or waited 0.42 seconds "too long" in queue.

Because when new killers go against survivors they should actually go against.. yeah, it's not really the killer that struggles, usually.

  • It's the same cosmic diceroll as ever to me at least. Still a lot of matches that go down in a way where the only actually meaningful events are 1) who gets found first and 2) when they subsequently get tunneled, do they last long enough for the match to still be undecided without the killer falling asleep to fumble the W on purpose 😄

  • At least for me I've experienced worse in other spaces, but the way some people delve as many miles down the us vs them and extreme victim complex pit as they do, you get some uniquely rotten mindsets in DBD at times.

I'm not saying a single thing about any "objective truth" about what community is The Worst, as all I know is my own experience and what I've seen.

  • I never really looked at more than my latency, outside of the obvious (yes, as much as backfills suck they're usually not quite as bad as a fully afk player, so I will dodge if my phone rings in lobby, duh) I don't dodge. Looked at latency, picked build/add-ons/items then tab out until game start.

  • If they cheat because of an invisible number that turns into a mere suggestion the moment someone waits 0.0042 seconds too long in queue or dodges, they'd probably cheat anyway.

  • I play normally, and absolutely do not blame anyone I put on hook in the slightest if they just peace out, but if not then I'll give them some chases. I'll probably be even more likely to offer hatch than usual to the last survivor.

Not really any "wrong" way to handle the situation besides the really weird one where people get mad at.. the other survivors for it? And like choose to bleed them out specifically to make sure they don't have a chance to peace out of what should be an already decided match. That's just kinda twisted in my opinion.

  • Because playing with even one other person makes the highs of fun higher, and makes it easier to laugh off trash games. I sometimes play solo, the vast majority of my survivor play is duo with the same person I've played with since 2017.

I don't think I could even in theory care less if someone starts stomping around angrily because I'm not "playing properly!!" as a result.

  • In the majority if not overwhelming majority of matches that take place on any given day, it isn't even relevant and is purely "who got the least screwed by matchmaking" and "who brought the strongest stuff"-sided.

That's probably correct. If I had to guess, the matchmaking algorithm was implemented based on symmetrical pvp games without context for DbD's asymmetry. The MMR matchup in this type of trial probably balances out on a spreadsheet, and it may even work for other symmetrical PVP games, but it just doesn't work in practice for DbD. You can't refuse an engagement with an opponent in a team-based shooter like OW or a game like CoD. But the killer in DbD can simply ignore the more experienced player(s) in the lobby and tunnel out the relatively inexperienced ones. And it's not like the more experienced player can do gens better to make up the difference. It makes for a terrible game. It's a 3 minute queue for that. Why even load up survivor at that point?

That, and especially the way where just about every time they've actually tried to make it stricter either initially, in the rapid-fire experiment where we got several flavors of sbmm in a few days and even the more recent soft cap adjustments, it quickly leads to people declaring the game too sweaty and the system gets promptly lobotomized a little more. And that's even while assuming there's no dodges.

I'm not saying stuff like the "Dowsey waiting actual hours to fight the same team over and over" which I assume was an early iteration with no soft cap whatsoever was okay, but surely there's a middle ground between that and what we have now.

  • Mostly just makes me indirectly despise that backfill logic exists when people dodge in any capacity at all.

  • I think it's just harmless goofy fun, but there is a lot of people that assume malice from essentially every action the game allows you to perform so Your Mileage May Vary alert.

  • Unfortunately it can't be a toggle, the community has proven time and time again that optional lack of information is automatically assumed to be the worst possible option in their eyes. No public friends list = 4man, no public game hours = 9k hour god gamer, no prestige would just = P100 by default to people. To some even as extreme as dare to use anon mode = bans on record from other games.

Needs to be hidden for everyone, all the time.

  • Blocking people to kill them with EGC has actually been said to be considered a reportable/bannable action on this very forum before, even if other survivors are still alive. Unless it's after EGC has started or "shortly before".

4 second stun, deactivates after gates are powered, active for 60 seconds and if at all possible deactivates when taking a protection hit to prevent it being used as a SWF weapon.

I don't trust the game to deactivate it on protection hit as long as it boils down to "IF you take a hit AND there's an injured survivor nearby = protection hit". Imagine honestly trying to run from the killer then having your DS turn off from a mysterious protection hit, then you see an injured Meg run out of a bush near you or something.

  • Just nuke all backfill logic from matchmaking.

Oh noo I might have to wait a minute for a replacement player instead of 10 seconds. I'll happily take that if it means a lower chance it's a match decided before startup because somehow a 3 yellow perk trapper or new survivor getting tunneled out fast enough to make it so the killer has to lose consciousness or have their input device turn into dust to fumble the W ended up in a lobby they really shouldn't be subjected to.

Hide prestige too by all means but the backfill worrying anyone having to wait 30 seconds will sign off and play Minecraft instead is the core issue.

  • If I hear it, basically.

If enough celestial bodies lined up in the sky on a blood moon for it to actually be a well used Exponential or something else clever, I might care more about it depending on the match.

  • Forever riding some bizarre pendulum going from 70/30 split in one direction to the same split in the other. At the moment I'm pretty close to right in the middle, probably something like 60/40 survivor/killer?

  • I feel like a lot of the time a fresh account with 100% achievements will be doing a lot more than using achievement unlocker tools. A lot of the time when I see accs like that they also have cheated Legacy cosmetics and such, which is absolutely bannable. Not to mention that once they do that, it gets more and more likely they have other Funny Software on their system as well.

Achievement unlocking in itself is something I honestly can't remember any game banning for? Every time I've heard of something that might be related to that, it has always been user error while using the tools that allow that kinda achievement unlocking in the first place, or some variant of "Valve pls unban it was my brother that cheated" where they toootally just used achievement unlockers and not full blown cheat clients (spoiler: they did a lot more than achievement unlock)

  • Try restarting your computer, verifying game files on Steam and running EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe and using the "repair" function (you can find this program by going right click game in library -> Properties -> Installed files -> Browse on Steam and then entering the EasyAntiCheat folder there)

  • No. Just someone mad that you're making what they're trying to do a little harder.

And peak comedy that an Onryo would say that when she has the ability to go through you if she wants to.

  • Matchmaking already implodes super easily, I'm terrified of even thinking about how bad it'd be if it had to take 4 different survivors that could have different previous killers into account as well.

  • At least in my experience it isn't. I'm sure it comes down to personal definitions of toxicity and how desensitized one is but I really can't say it is again, in my personal experience.

Y’kno, I’ve never played Fortnite, but it’s not a game anyone ever mentions when these discussions arise regarding toxicity. Wondering whether others aren’t playing or if it really just isn’t toxic, fwr.

Fortnite has very robust settings to let you control who has any opportunity to communicate with you in any way whatsoever. I'm not 100% on what the default settings are, but you can very easily make it so only friends or friends-of-friends can ever talk to you, join your party and stuff like that.

Of course you might run into in-game trolls. Griefing teammates, using "taunt-like" emotes after beating someone if you count that and so on. But trash talking and the stuff that the most people possible will agree is toxic? You can change a setting or two and make it basically impossible for anyone to do it to you as long as you don't accept every friend invite you get.

  • Calm Spirit from someone that really didn't like being unable to blindly trust Ultimate Weapon. I got hooked first so they really wanted me to take the next 2 hooks too, but they just couldn't find me. This one went to full DC at 1 gen left before unleashing censor-dodging slurs levels of mad.

No Mither because I was hyper blessed and had the funny tenacity no mither fastest slug in the west build against a Twins.

Dark Devotion because the obsession really wanted to get chased, and obviously with DD you want to activate it then go spook someone instead.

  • I don't do it for the simple reason that I find it boring (unless I see the 4th survivor when downing the 3rd of course), but it's whatever. If people want to do it that's their decision and as a survivor I will play it out.

It is pretty funny how strangely common it is for people that do it to get mad if you actually play for hatch/gates instead of just taping down W and running at the slug and serving themselves up on a silver platter though. Like, completely unhinged slur-spewing actually bannable levels of mad.

  • No need for punishment.

    • Eradicate all lobby info besides survivor picked, outfit selected and item equipped.
    • Use completely normal matchmaking logic for replacements when someone leaves with no exceptions.

Pick one. Or both, if you're feeling spicy and particularly cool in my book.

  • They sure show a whole lot about matchmaking that's for sure.

Not saying that to devalue the skill involved, the skill is exactly why it's even possible. They're at the point where they can make the overwhelming majority of softcap inhabitants fold like wet paper, and every single player in that set is their matchmaking pool. There's an absolutely enormous skill variety all in the same pool.

  • Or maybe it's because some of the community has proven they can't even be trusted with the information that's already there?

  • DS and Ruin from me too.

Both got a perfectly reasonable change and then an additional finishing blow to make the pickrate go down. Conspicious action and endgame disable was fine for DS, Ruin could be fine with one of its changes but both at once? Nah.

  • Consoles have Discord now, but is it only the newest ones like PS5?

When playing other games with missing/awful in-game voice options I have used a wacky work-around at times where I actually use Playstation party chat with them via PS Remote Play, it lets you use PS party chat on PC basically 😄

Interesting potential solutions in here for Switch though! Know very little about that.

  • To keep me from losing consciousness from boredom while doing gens.

  • At least make BPS and the various anniversary cake style shared BP offerings universal. They do nothing at all besides.. you know, benefitting everyone in the match by giving them more BP.

  • Absolutely not, if someone wants to play "tough" they should get increasingly difficult competition until they end up at a point where they get matched with players that do the same.

Even then, matchmaking is more of a suggestion than anything else unfortunately. A lot of the time the games people remember as "sweaty" are actually the ones they SHOULD be getting if they're someone that goes all out on the regular, no matter if we're talking about killers or survivors here.

  • Agreed, truly custom games where you can adjust all sorts of stats and modifiers is one of my biggest "pipe dream" tier wishes. For an explore mode you don't even actually have to be alone on the map, just spawn a bot on the opposite role in a little off-map container that can barely fit them and keep them stuck there if starting a map with no players on the other team is impossible.

Just re-use the rift realm from the recent event but with no portals for them to get out. Such a "containment realm" already exists.

  • Because generators aren't players. People can say that shouldn't matter for balance or whatever as much as they want but believe me when I say this makes even developers view the two as fundamentally different scenarios.

Of course it is allowed, since they cannot do anything to prevent using it...

They absolutely can, at least reshade/nvidia filters. Many games have blocked Reshade, and they could just opt out of NVIDIA filters by telling NVIDIA they want to do so which is again something other games have done no problem.

The fact they haven't when it's not like it's some sort of secret or anything makes it seem like a pretty safe bet they don't consider them undesirable to begin with to me.
