it is a competitive game it's just balanced so heavily in favor of survivors it's like a party game

the fact that the games servers favour killers proves you otherwise.

With tomorrow's release, we're updating Match Details to show more info!

Thanks to your PTB feedback, Survivors will see the Killer name and power only after one of these happens:

    ➡️First chase begins
➡️A Survivor loses a health state

Stay tuned for full patch notes tomorrow!

can we remove killer being able to see survivors items? I think this is only fair. Survivors don’t get to see the killers.

As someone who mainly plays survivor, I feel like what I do hasn't changed a lot in the past couple of years. But when I started trying to play killer again after a couple years of not playing it, that role has changed an awful lot. For the worse. I mean, it's bad. Really bad. Everything from there geing five million extra pallets on the map to gens flying by if I take two extra seconds to chase somebody at the start of the match. Unless I'm running corrupt or an S tier killer every game, I don't have any idea how to exert enough map pressure to compensate for five million pallets, gen times or the current meta. I feel like many killer games are either being bullied by bagging survivors or the game crashing when it looks like I'm going to win.

On top of all that, I've noticed a distinct increase in survivor BM and stuff that looks suspiciously like lag switching/cheating. For instance, I can play survivor all day long and the game runs smoothly. Seldom crashing. But whenever I play killer the game uddenly becomes jittery and buggy as hell, especially during those games where it looks like I'm going to win, and then as I go to hook a survivor I suddenly can't and the whole game crashes. (Could be from anything, but it happening only on killer is either survivors cheating or an unfortunate killer sided server bug that adds to the stinkiness of the killer experience for me)

At this rate, I feel like the devs are gonna have to start tossing out some iri shards for playing a certain number of killer matches. Or start "sneaking in" some anonymous bot killers. Because, seriously, this role feels super miserable to play right now.

sorry you’re doing badly.. but killer is the easiest it’s ever been. This sounds like a you problem ngl. There is a reason why streamers who play killer can get 100’s of player kill streaks. Killer is in a really good place right now. Possibly even too good.

  • why has it taken so long.. it’s been so obvious for ages… makes it seem like they are out of touch with there own game.

  • @Skeleton23 said:

It feels the same to me

you used to be able to vacuum into a pallet save. Now you cannot.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Also have to say, I did not notice any difference. Pallet Saves are rare, but they still exist and still work as before, from what I have seen. The Killer was always able to block the prompt of dropping a Pallet, if they were too close to the side you wanted to drop it from.

they’ve made it harder since patch 9.5.1. The prompt can often disappear. I used to be able to vacuume into the pallet to save but now often the killers hit box stops this from happening. It was a silent buff to killers. Not surprised though in this game.

  • This is the only game I play where I have to play differently depending on someone else’s ping, pretty ridiculous tbh. Often makes me not want to play, as on EU it’s constant with higher ping killers. Why should I have to suffer in regards to someone else’s connection? Makes playing survivor feel sour.

  • She’s pretty boring to go against, her Hit box is still broken in her power.. (as in it’s huge and extends around corners) so I’m pretty glad I don’t see her that much.

  • killers will tunnel even if they make a killer really easy, exactly why there needs to be less incentive for the killer to do so.

  • unfortunately it’s a hard balance. Survivors bring things to speed gens up because killers usually bring things to slow them down. It’s a crappy meta.

  • make it so killers get punished for bad ping and not reward them. It will make the game more accurate and competitive for everyone. As a survivor I’m fed up of having to change my play style to accommodate one player.

  • knight needs nothing… it falls under the un-skilled killer category and it needs minimum outcome for its minimum effort.

Most online games use a "favor the shooter" approach, which generally feels better to the players. Essentially: if it looks like you hit on your end it will register as a hit.

Unfortunately, DbD really only has one team that attacks. The only thing survivors have that's even similar is pallet stunning, and they specifically changed things so that "pallet vacuuming" stopped… so that it didn't feel like crap for the killer.

You also have the fact that if one survivor is playing on Wi-Fi from Mars that you still have 3 other targets that aren't teleporting around. If the killer lags, you have to deal with getting hit around corners, over pallets, through walls, etc until the next match.

this. And unfortunately on EU the next match will most likely be the same. It makes me not want to play.

Except that in DBD the Killer is basically the peeker all the time. The Survivor is the angle holder and gets screwed over by high-ping peekers.
The rule of thumb is: low-ping Survivors have the advantage, high-ping Killers have the advantage.
Holding angles (checkspots in this game and reacting to the Killer’s movement) is way easier on low ping, while peeking (coming around a corner, double-backing, momentum teching, baiting pallet drops and going around) is much easier on high ping.

From my own testing, the “golden ping” on Killer is as close to 100 ms as possible without actually being at 100. At 100 ms you start getting noticeable delay on charging certain abilities, etc.
Everything below 100 ms has basically no downside whatsoever, except for the special case of Blight’s bump registration being very ping-dependent, but that’s about it, I think.

I play pvp games all the time, mostly overwatch. dbd seems the most inaccurate of them all. Anything 80+ I notice a difference on a killer. Like getting hit from over a pallet when iv stood up on the other side.

only because it's melee instead of projectiles. The more up close and personal the players the more the latency desync becomes apparent.

have you never played against a bad ping projectile killer? It’s awful.

  • pallets are pretty useless against most new killers anyways tbh.

Decisive Strike, Unbreakable/Breakdown (Breakdown is iffiy due to maps go with UB for most cases), Dead Hard/Sprint Burst/ Lithe and We're Gonna Live Forever (WIGLF)/ Reassurance (30 sec extra hook time, can stack) / Shoulder the Bruden (Only if confident) / Resilience (Faster vault speed, will always be useful no matter what)

This will set you up to either Help yourself or someone else depending on the situation.

For a maximum value in all situations variation of the Build DS (Decisive Strike) + UB (Unbreakable) + Lithe (If you can use Dead Hard instead if your confident) + Resilience

Other than build the next most important thing is map knowledge, like running to a main build in most maps will give you a lot of value for lower effort making chases long for the killer or making them give up and go somewhere else.

If you want a person to learn maps from Mr TatorHead on YT is really good.

dead hard is kinda useless against camp/tunnel now. I was hit off hook which activated deep wound. And you can’t use Dead hard then.

  • @GhostsCore said:

Use it as practice for looping! Instead of seeing it as "the killer wouldn't leave me alone" instead see it as a rapid fire way to get better in chases.

If you want to counter it in the immediate: Use perks that help. DS and any other endurance/anti tunnel perks help. If you suspect a Survivor is being tunneled let them stay on the hook as long as possible as that's extra time you're buying. Take protection hits when possible and do gens

my team all done this, he just slugged them ;(

  • why can’t you get rid of stacks against this killer? Also his power is really easy to get, I find it bizarre you can see survivors when he’s in his power.. I would have thought it would be more of a spirit situation?

  • I tried to get my partner to play but instantly found the game at first glance favoured the killer and it was almost like MMR didn’t exist… as he would go against people with thousands of hours. Which I thought was pretty unfair to him. So he doesn’t play anymore, But after 7 years I guess I just hate myself to keep playing lol.

only speaking from 7 years of past experience lol

  • honestly just nerf Aura. Buffing distortion just creates games where you get tunnelled if you’re the one not running it, old school dbd had less aura and was better for it. Killer gets spoon fed now.

  • and again tonight… more high ping killers with bull hits… needs sorting tbh. Let people see the killers ping in the lobbies.

80-200 is a pretty wide range. To reiterate from the other recent topic on the issue, are we really calling 80 unplayable now? Maybe next topic it'll be 80-400.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4042301#Comment_4042301

Is this an AI generated argument? I mostly ask because "Just increase your tick rate" isn't how things work on a nearly 10 year old game, that kind of thing is a pretty nuclear option from my understanding. You would have to re-create almost all of the game's logic to make that kind of adjustment, and it's completely irrespective of the hardware the game runs on.

Spikes from things like lag switching or VPNs are one thing, but people seem to forget this was a P2P game at its core structure that was converted to use dedicated servers. The killer is still load bearing in many aspects, which is constantly used as validation for why they're not allowed to disconnect as haphazardly as survivors can. In the end, "what we want" and "how the game is structured" are often two different things.

The approach should be around preventing excess and tracking reasonable levels. I agree that there should be some type of max ping allowed by matchmaking, but people wanting only 20-50 ping matches are being pretty unreasonable. Especially since some people can only get 100+ to their nearest geographical server location due to their region. Putting things in place to counteract or at least punish stuff like lag switching would be the right direction, even if some kind of hidden counter that tracks the number of abnormalities in latency and activates like a DC penalty if it registers more than rare occasions. Only other thing I really agree with is in regards to hitbox visualization, as when not understood they look very misleading in many latency-hit scenarios.

    also

To fix undeserved hits, BHVR needs to move the slider away from "Favor the Shooter" and closer to "Server Authority,"

Did they not try this? I could swear the determination was that due to how the game was originally designed, moving validation away from the killer for hits especially felt extremely bad and increased the frequency of stolen hits, leading to a lot of situations like blade wipe desyncs and some powers like plague vomit flat out not registering properly (then again, when have they.)

yes 80 is high, and often hits over pallets. I’d rather not go against a 80 ping killer if I had the choice. Let’s not encourage bad internet or VPN to make the game easier. It’s a bad tactic.

    @vol4r said:

I just turn on the game, stare at lobby and… turn off the game.

A lot of my friends actually left the game or just barely play.

I look at the friend list and there are only compies and streamers online.
None of my friends are willing to play as much as they were before.
I don't think game is very enjoyable without right people - friends, especially with the state of solo queue right now.

No one wants to play solo queue and just be destroyed every time.
We need to improve survivior experience and we need to do this quickly.

There is so much that happened lately, that takes enjoyment out of the game for some people.

    1. New Item - Smoke Bomb.
It was a good item, not broken, not OP.
Killers got the nerfed into the ground, having barely any use right now. Especially with limited uses.
      It's not bloodweb clutter.
    2. Pallet density update
It was good. We actually had resources to work with. Some maps really needed those.
It's nerfed now to the point it's worse than what we had before.
part 2 of density update gave us nerf to density itself, but also the quality of pallets. Rendering most of them into 80/20 scenario.
First pallet changes were good, especially in the era of killers being able to make damage behind the pallets or windows with ranged attacks or great mobility.
    3. Change to map offerings and map rotation being just bad.
I don't enjoy playing on Nostromo, Toba Landing, Lery's.
Those maps are boring, layouts are mostly bad. Windows are terrible - especially on Toba.
Those maps are being chosen on like 80% of my matches.
Before it we had a chance to choose a map and I agree - it was abused by surviviors, they always would choose macmillan or azarov. Reason: they were good maps. Macmillan is just heavily nerfed, azarov got the lighting changed for worse (many people opinion).
Maps became clutter in the bloodweb. Should definitely be removed now.
    4. Killers balance is still bad.
Blight, nurse, kaneki are still too strong compared to other killers like pig, trapper etc.
Devs don't want to change that. I've been giving my thoughts on that topic in different posts, so please don't tell me that it's just blank words.
Some killer powers are just not enjoyable to go against.
    5. Hit registration is just so bad sometimes.
A lot of pokos hits through pallets, windows. Mostly ping related. Could be changed, because once we had a fix to it, which devs walked back from it.
Short swings are still a thing, that doesn't get changed. Surviviors dropping the pallets are vacuumed into those hits for some reasons.
    6. Going against same killers all the time.
Yeah, some will argue that reasoning behind that is those killers are the only ones able to win the games.
I personally don't agree with it. That's not my experience. I win my games with C, B tiers.
    7. Devs are afraid of community feedback
There is nothing good happening for games health, because devs are listening to the community.
Most of the content creators are killer mains and it's those people who create negative videos and I feel like only their and their community's feedback matter to devs.
Because of them we got 2 of tunneling and slugging patches removed.
We have actual feedback of people that are uninstalling the game! We should be taking that into consideration! Killers whine about survivior buffs, but don't actually uninstall the game. It's surviviors uninstalling! Their experience is not being included right now and that's not okay!
We need to look into actual data, not the doom posting!

This game feels pretty dead for survivor now… me and my friends don’t play anymore. Let the killers have the longest queues ever.

  • that’s asking too much from this company

  • @MoZo said:

on live servers, the anti camp is 16 meters, on the ptb it was increased to 20 and a lot of people apparently claimed it was really unfair and somehow made camping more punishing for killers that would walk by when they literally decreased the base fill rate by 50% to compensate but ok. now, the devs have reverted the range back to 16 meters for live. my question is why couldn’t we try 18 meters?

i was playing some solo q last night and was really eying how far the 16 meter anti camp is and holy sh!t it is a very small amount of distance. can we please test 18 meters?its so easy to cheese the anti camp radius when its 16 meters. especially if the hook is in a good area for the killer to lock down multiple entries to said hook. at the very least in the ptb, killers were at a risk for trying to camp and proxy because the radius was big enough. now we are back to multiple killers being able to force trades or go down before the unhook even happens.

edit: before anyone comes in a says “it’s called anti-face camp, not anti camp so it’s doing its job” i will just say now, face camping has been dead. and these changes the devs were trying to do were to address proxy camping.

you’re asking too much from this company. It’s never the middle ground it’s always one extreme or the other… it’s like they like creating the divide.

One of the worst updates. The new tiles and fillers are 80/20 killer sided. Auto, Macmillan are completely dead, Yamaoka was bad even before now it's wasteland.

don’t blame you tbh, I haven’t played since either. No wonder killer queues are long.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/461136/please-stop-telling-survivors-to-learn-how-to-loop

The point to that is tunneling is far less effective if the survivor can actually loop. It takes too long to down someone when they are constantly aware. Generally the killer needs to rely on getting the drop on a stationary survivor doing a gen, or healing, or other thing to land a quick first hit. But if y ou are just chasing them constantly they are able to run you for a long time.

Yeah, you might still die, but the killer throws the match to get that 1 kill.

the problem with this, is the good survivor who got tunneled MMR goes down and creates unbalanced games

  • Killers counter pallets so easily now. Just have 60+ ping and it’s a free hit through a stun and over a pallet, VPNs aren’t even reportable now. Since iv been against soo many VPN killers and nothing has ever been done about them. So go ahead and abuse this as much as you want.

  • I feel like iv hardly seen much change? still dying as much and killing more than ever :D

  • ngl I totally get the DC against certain killers. I don’t do it myself but I get it. Also many factors why ppl will DC.. like killers with high ping getting a free hit can be infuriating for survivors, or OP killers, it’s also annoying if you’re constantly against the same killer over and over again.

they said this patch was just the first of 2, at least. the next hotfix is intended to be the follow-up to all the feedback so far. what's so wrong with them fitting in some quick changes for this hotfix?

I feel this should be happening in the PTB and not the mainline game? why is there so many changes that need to occur? She shouldn't be released in this current state.

  • The devs missed the mark completely and changed things that weren’t even a problem. Feels like a slap in the face tbh.

  • @AbsolutGrndZer0 said:

I say this with all due respect as someone who is terrible at looping and tends to both go down quickly and get hooked 3 times many times before everyone has has even 1 hook… Learn to loop and not go down, and the killer won't tunnel you.

In other words, if you are bad at the game, why wouldn't the killer take advantage of that? They shouldn't be punished for you (or me, I fully admit I am bad at survivor) being bad at the game.

I’m a good survivor, yet inevitably you’re going to die if you are tunnelled. Something tends to always go in the killers favour, I’m on EU lobbies and killers with 60 + ping is a 5th perk. It’s also unhealthy for MMR, say a survivor loops for 3 gens is finally caught then is tunneled off hook, loops for more then is eventually killed that survivors MMR will not increase yet they where most likely the strongest in the lobby. It’s not about getting rid of tunnelling it’s just far too easy to tunnel in this current games state.

  • iv reported these bugs forever now.. and they are aware of It. I play controller mouse and instead of being able to throw a pallet in close chase my character will flash its flashlight instea and my fps will drop. What seems to be working for me now is iv remapped my controller on steam to act as a keyboard instead. Although you don’t get the 360 directional movement.

  • You do realise, I know that the change will come. I’m basically just referring to what killers have said to me in end game chat. It’s there reasoning to tunnel.
