  • I just wanted to share the following:

    • I created a new Steam account, turned on family-sharing, and played on a new account for a few days. The first day I didn't experience any issues, but the second day, I started disconnecting regularly again. So, sadly, a new account does not fix the issue.
    • I spoke with BHVR support again, and while they apologized that I felt "ignored" (because no one has acknowledged this thread, I guess? That was what they took from it), they had me go through a few troubleshooting steps I'd already tried, like allowing DBD through Windows firewall and changing my DNS settings.
    • When I responded that I'd already tried these steps, they apologized and told me that at this point I should contact Steam support. As we know, this is the same roundabout circle they've been stringing us on for months.

To say that I'm disappointed is a gross understatement. Pointing the finger at Steam, who will in turn point the finger at BHVR, and not taking ownership of a pervasive problem across 30 unique users in this forum alone, is not acceptable.

I don't know what else to do, or to say that hasn't already been done or said. I hope this issue gets fixed, and that we can enjoy the anniversary event without trouble.

Yup, I created a new account just to see what would happen and have never been kicked from that account. My account that I get kicked from has years of progress and money put into it, so I would much prefer to be able to play on that one. Super weird that the error is only affecting select accounts and has nothing to do with internet connection.

If it's true that it only affects certain accounts, that is absolutely wild. I would be devastated to lose progress and money -- I have 100% achievements, 5k+ hours, I achieved p3 prior to the prestige rework on every survivor... Yikes.

  • I submitted another support ticket today with the following message.

    Hi, sorry for the all-caps.

Please, please do not give me a form response. I know y'all are busy, but I desperately need to know that you are taking this seriously.

I'm sure you're aware, but there is a thread in the bug reporting forum that has upwards of 90 comments surrounding the sudden uptick in "Disconnected From Host" errors occurring in the game, apparently across all platforms.

    ((Linked to this thread))

This is the thread, started by Chesnoodle. I have been a frequent participator in this thread, and have been doing my best to work through troubleshooting steps with several other people there.

To be clear, several times a day, I receive a "Disconnected from Host" error and am booted from live matches. This results in DC penalties racking up exponentially. Usually, I have to take a long break from DBD to get the penalties to reset, so that I can play without fear of getting a ridiculous ban.

Let me run you through the troubleshooting I've done:

    - Restarted my modem/router

    - Contacted my ISP

    - Had my ISP come to my house and agree there is nothing wrong with my connection

    - Exchanged my ethernet cables

    - Opened your recommended ports on my router

    49003 – UDP Inbound AUDIO

    49004 – UDP Outbound AUDIO

    49005 – UDP Inbound VIDEO

    49006 – TCP/UDP Outbound/Inbound Remote Input

    - Changed my DNS settings

    - Monitored packet losses while playing the game (no drops, but DBD disconnects while my internet is unaffected and no other games/programs lose connection)

    - Repaired the game

    - Uninstalled the game

    - Installed the game via Epic Games with the same result, so I returned my purchase and went back to Steam

    - Extensive (and I mean EXTENSIVE) tests with various in-game settings that others have tried, like de-selecting tome challenges or turning off the in-game challenge notifications on the HUD

I have tried just about everything I can think of on my end to resolve this issue. I have 5.5k hours in Dead by Daylight and have played the game since the anniversary in 2020. I have never had this kind of problem before, and from the sound of it, it's not an isolated issue.

Forum user EasternSpock had the following exchange with someone from support in early May:

"You see.. Internet service providers use things called internet exchange points to efficiently carry data from your device to any destination. These points are along a path where data from your device is sent to the Dead by Daylight servers and back to your device. If an internet exchange point is having trouble or goes down, this can impact your connection which seems to be your case."

This led to us doing some chatting, and confirming that several of us are in a similar area (Southern New Hampshire, Northeastern Massachusetts, Boston-area, etc). So, it's likely that our ISPs are routing through the same IXP. I hope this is helpful information for your purposes.

With all of that being said, I want to express how frustrating it is not to have a single response from your team on our forum post. This issue has frustrated so many people. It's driving me and others away from the game. We just want to play! We want to give you our money, and get excited about the anniversary event, and play with our friends. But instead, we're literally getting shut out, and it seems that our asks for help and *acknowledgment* are going unanswered.

If Dead by Daylight was a ranked game, I could understand the need for a penalty for disconnections. But it isn't. The only 'rank' that exists is our MMR, which will dip each time we disconnect anyway. I don't see the logic in forcing people out of the game for something beyond their control, and I guess I never will.

Were you ever the good kid in school who never did anything to get into trouble, and then felt sick to your stomach when your whole class got silent lunch because of bad behavior from a few students? That's what this feels like.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this message. I am passionate about Dead by Daylight, and especially with the anniversary coming up, I want to be able to experience it with my friends. Please let us know, at least, that we've been heard.

    Thank you.

Thanks for that info, I’ll give it a shot later this evening and edit this comment if I get DC’ed. It’s hard not to be skeptical at this point but I don’t remember having this issue before the mid chapter update for Forged in Fog in late January so it definitely seems worth a try.

Likewise! I disabled it last night and did not have any disconnects. I will also edit this post if that changes. Absolutely worth a shot!

EDIT: That didn't last long. I was disconnected from host and have another 30 minute penalty after trying to vault during the EGC.

  • There is another thread in the Bug Reporting forum called "Forcefully Kicked From Match" by Chesnoodle, which has 90+ responses from those of us having the same trouble. I'd encourage you to add your voice there! No official acknowledgment from BHVR and we've been going around the merry go round with support for months.

  • After a string of "Disconnected from Host" errors yesterday I'm up to a 30 minute ban again. Acknowledgment would be sincerely appreciated. We're going on months of this problem, we're leading up to the anniversary event, and I am scared to dare to play even a single match (this was my first match of the day).

Curious about this snippet from the recent PTB patch notes in regards to this issue. Doesn’t sound promising in terms of a fix but I am assuming it will now say something other than “Disconnected from Host”

So I'm hearing they CAN tell the difference between a disconnect, a server issue, and a timeout? :p

  • It's having a rough go of it today. Just DCed from my 3rd match tonight after a health state validation. It's getting old.

  • Here to say that although this issue has gotten a bit better for me, I'm still getting a "Disconnection from Host" error at least once per day. I have staggered my playing so that my penalty is only at 5-10 minutes right now, but that is still frankly unacceptable and still no acknowledgment from BHVR.

  • @Mandy said:

Charms are not available yet...these are going to be implemented during the Anniversary and Pride Celebrations

Omg, thanks Mandy! I missed that!

  • I wouldn't say every time, but it does happen very frequently with killers in the endgame chat confirming they specifically targeted me for being p100. Or like, they'll just come straight in with the "Okay P100 I guess you should just *Play better*" after they catch me/face camp me/tunnel me out.

  • There is an ongoing thread about this issue with about 70 comments under "Forcefully Kicked from Match" by chesnoodle.

    UPDATE :

game works fine in epic games

i merged my account to Epic games and everything works fine

no disconnect from host anymore so the problem with steam itself !?

This unfortunately is not the fix— as part of my troubleshooting last week I tried the game on Epic and was still met with a Disconnect from Host error playing my first match.

That said, I haven’t had any disconnections for the last 1.5 days! I agree it would be nice to get public acknowledgment of a fix/efforts made, but I guess I’d be okay if it just stopped happening, too. 😅

I am sharing the conclusion of my emails with support below. Not entirely sure what to make of it but I’m sharing just so everyone can see what they had to say after repeatedly having me try troubleshooting that didn’t work, and suggesting I reach out to my ISP and Sony. Hard to say for sure but I hope they really are looking into it, and I hope it’s a priority and will be fixed soon. Hard to be anything but doubtful at this point though.

    —————

    Hi again,

I was able to understand that you seem to be having some connection problems within the game itself according to what you just described and you need help in order to fix this and get back to enjoying the game and we want that as well.

You see.. Internet service providers use things called internet exchange points to efficiently carry data from your device to any destination. These points are along a path where data from your device is sent to the Dead by Daylight servers and back to your device. If an internet exchange point is having trouble or goes down, this can impact your connection which seems to be your case.

I understand you already tried the troubleshooting steps that have been provided so far and I know how important this is for not only you but all the players that may be experiencing this connection issue, which is why it is something we will have to look into and find a way of fixing this like we have the recent bugs and issues that have been reported to us.

With that in mind, thank you for reporting this as it truly helps our investigation.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It IS encouraging that they've taken a little bit of ownership for the issue.

If they're saying it's an Internet Exchange Point issue, I wonder if we can find any commonality in our locations that might help them pinpoint which players might be being affected (if there is a commonality, of course).

So, for posterity, and because I tried playing a match yesterday (just one!) that also ended in my disconnection when someone got unhooked:

    Platform: PC (Steam)

Lobby Host: East Coast US Server (I am most frequently the lobby host, but I have been disconnected while playing on West Coast hosted lobbies)

    Location: Massachusetts/Boston area

To recreate: Play any match, survivor or killer. Get "Disconnected from Host" error when a server has to validate a health state change, hook state change, or potentially when killer is using power (Wesker charging power, Huntress charging hatchet toss, etc).

Thanks to everyone keeping this thread at the top of the bug reporting forum! This issue is one they could easily brush under the rug and we don't have to accept that. <3

  • Just wanted to say that I also appreciate people being vocal about this and pushing this issue. I just got kicked again in my second or third match of the day. I was also hopeful the patch would have fixed it, but sadly that isn't the case. Once again, I was booted from the match after a health state validation (this time it was mine at least; a Trapper on Autohaven hit me down and I was forcefully removed from the match). 15 minute ban.

I have over 5,000 hours in this game and this issue has been going on for months. BHVR, I hope you realize how passionately I love this game and this community and how hurtful it is to be punished for something beyond my control, that I have done so much to try and fix when no other game gives me this problem.

I've filed support tickets, I've harassed my ISP just in case for tests and resets and inspections, I've opened ports on my router, I've changed my ethernet cables, I've uninstalled drivers, I've repaired game files and eventually did a clean install on the game, I've switched DNS servers... It's NOT ME.

  • Here to say that, again, this is still an issue. I haven't played DBD in two days because of this problem -- it's making the game virtually unplayable. I will also say again, it is not my internet. Literally scared to play because every time I do, I get booted from the match needlessly and my penalties just rack up exponentially. Occurs most often when a health state validation happens (health state loss, hook state change, or health state gained).

  • I've already commented on this thread but came here to say this is STILL an ongoing issue. It is not my internet; it's Dead by Daylight. I'm up to 30 minutes as of today. I don't lose connection to anything else and I play other multiplayer games just fine.

  • BHVR Please fix our girl! We still can't look down!

  • Samesiessss. I filed a ticket with BHVR weeks ago and they were like, "Lol check your internet connection, no guarantees we can fix this!" So helpful.

  • Happened to me again today after finishing a heal on someone. Yesterday, lost a health state and crashed twice so I'm up to a 15 minute ban because the game is broken. Filed a ticket and they said "Sorry fix your internet lol"

  • Big saaaame. It seems to happen randomly but like especially around times when there's a server validation of some kind? Like, getting downed, getting hooked, downing a survivor or hooking a survivor.

  • S a m e. There's something going on and it's so annoying! My internet is FINE and nothing else is affected, but DBD will kick me out and I get hefty penalties. It's ridiculous.

  • I've noticed it too! I usually find this if they have multiple boons. I'll generally hear the first instance, but after that any additional boons are silent 90% of the time.

  • YES! Me too, or when picking up a survivor. It's happened so many times to me this week I'm up to a 15 minute ban.

  • Happened to me last night and was not caused (as far as I could tell) by anyone DCing during loading

  • It just happened to me AGAIN. I was at 85% wiggle, killer walked through a pallet to get to a hook, and nothing happened.

  • I'm also having SO many disconnected from host errors, ever since last patch. I'm up to a 15 minute ban now because it's counting them as DCs. My internet connection is FINE. I don't lose connection at all, no packets lost, etc. It's DBD. BHVR please fix your servers or turn off penalty again.

  • Also having this issue after years playing this game. :/ Not an internet issue on my end, no packets lost. Just DBD kicking me out, saying the killer DCed, hitting me with the escalating ban.

  • I'm not even HOH/Deaf and this was the first thing I thought of when I read about the nerf. I find it hard to believe that an entire team of developers didn't consider it once. We already knew that BHVR had issues with considering accessibility, but damn. Something needs to change, y'all.

  • I'm a huntress main and I really appreciate you saying this. I felt like I was going crazy but like... every time I get this map, I honestly just stand tf still and let survivors do gens because it sucks all the joy out of playing my girl. Why do the TREE TOPS have collision??? PLEASE. :(

  • Also having this issue today in particular. :/ Auto-aims at the ground and I have to force-drag it up the killer's body to get to the eyes, which obviously messes up the timing.

  • 20211021210258_1.jpg

Example of texture issue. The ambulance would eventually load the texture in, but if I pan away and come back, it looks like this again.

  • I agree, it lowers the performance of my game and also sincerely impacts my ability to see the map at all. Without an aura-reading perk I have trouble seeing where pallets/vaults/environmental obstacles are with the blue effect.

  • 20210731230555_1.jpg 20210801155109_1.jpg

In the second, my camera was also swapped to first person.

  • Seconding this, it just happened to me as well in the same area. It has also happened to me as of yesterday on the Disturbed Ward map when a hex totem spawned upstairs in between two screens in a tight spot. It has not occurred for me except for after this last patch.
