  • I personally got tired of it quickly. It was cool to look at for a bit, but just because it was new didn't make it good enough to stay – to me at least. I wouldn't want it to be in the normal game mode. The concept of wanting more interaction to complete a gen is understood, but i didn't see any real value from the main time aspect being transferred from 'how long it takes to complete the gen' to 'the distance traveled to transfer the gas to the gen.'

I think the idea was that they wanted killers to be able to interrupt and delay gen completion purely from the blood leaking while you run from them. Keep up pressure and you'll gain the time back needed to keep it competitive.

My games have gotten laggier and laggier the last few days. Randomly freezing and stuttering even though my ping isn't that bad (around 60) and my connection is stable so I haven't been disconnected from the servers either.

I was just in a game where I suddenly froze in place and then suddenly I was hooked in the air (not on a hook). The other players told me it looked like cheating but I don't even know what happened.

I am just worried that due to this lag I could end up getting reported, even though I did nothing wrong. The thing I have been playing for a long time and never have I ever experienced lag like that, but the last few weeks, I did notice a notable increase in random lag spikes. Is there anything I can do to fix that?

It's not just you. I have footage from 2 consecutive games maybe 4-5 days ago. One was a Bubba and the other a Dracula –I was a survivor. The Bubba game is on Lerys, and I'm running holding W to a pallet consciously passing one to prevent a dead zone, and all of a sudden like magic the game bugs and I'm running TOWARDS the Bubba who was just behind me while now going in the opposite direction I was heading in. I reacted quick enough to spin him but I've never experienced that before.

The Dracula game was weird because it was stuttering to the point his flame power didn't even animate. I didn't see his hands move and I could only hear the power activate. It happened multiple times till I died with me just guessing where the flames were going.

  • Pandoras box has already been opened. It's my opinion outright seeing the full movement of anyone in the game was a mistake from the get go. I've always aired on the side of it just being a killer instinct type notification where the area is highlighted but you can't see exactly where I am whether it is a survivor or killer.

  • I hope so. It really butters my buns when it happens.

Because it's really boring to face people who hide for 60% of the game. Hiding has its place but old distortion was just enforced unhealthy gameplay. Like yes I would LIKE to go for the unhooker but they're off in narnia while the unhooked is running around in the middle of the map like a flash beacon.

I don't think this game is focused on what's fun or boring though. They have a plethora of things in this game that are for the enjoyment of one person, sometimes to the detriment of others. Add ons, perks, killers - you name it.

I also don't think distortion on its own was the issue so I wouldn't call it unhealthy. If I want my build to be around stealth, that should be an option. I chose the thing that counters you seeing all my curves and dimples across the map. What would've sufficed is perhaps a longer time spent in terror radius to get a token and a special notification or killer instinct type deal that gives you a general location I'm in if no objectives are being attempted. That goes for all survivors, not just distortion users.

  • This is my everyday being in US Central. I go where the game says I should go. I just played a match as the only person at 90+ ping spiking into the 110s while the others were at 50 or lower.

There's quite a few misunderstandings of my point and what I'm saying here.

"You've said you are open to changing your mind but I'm not sure that is actually the case because you're not an unbiased bystander in the conversation. "

You're misusing the word bias. Bias is an "unfair" prejudice against something. Unfair wouldn't apply here because it would imply there's rational/logical evidence supporting the opposite of my view point that I'm ignoring. I'm not. I'm also actively asking for any rational/logical points I may have missed in order to change my view point. I've actually demonstrated the complete opposite of bias.

"You've come to enjoy and utilize the slugging option in your playstyle, so I'd imagine you're not going to just stop doing that because someone on here gives you a good argument for why people don't like it or why its bad. You already know people don't like it and continue to do it so the explanation wont be the difference maker - so what is the intended outcome here? "

If you read my full original post I never said my intention or goal was stopping, that is not the point of this post. The point was not to change what I do, the point as stated was to try to understand the point of view of where people are coming from. IE trying to be open minded to see if my opinion is wrong.

"Firstly, you want to discuss slugging but have prematurely omitted instances of slugging that would be used as reasoning. Why? They also count as slugging. "

Because the conversation is not about slugging as an absolute. The conversation is about certain types of slugging. I agree with most people about those other exceptions, my questions are on the other scenarios that people also call toxic/boring/ect, that I disagree on.

"Even without hatch and 4-man slug, it can be argued very annoying playstyle"

This goes back to my original point. WHY? All people keep saying is it's toxic/boring/annoying, but do not give me a rational/logical reasoning for why it is or what makes it "fill in the blank". That is the core point of this post. I personally can not think of an answer that fits this, so I'm here asking to see if I can find one I haven't thought of.

"Onryo - who I'm assuming is the character play like this on - is a habitual slugger. "

It's not. I don't play a slug play style on Onryo. Who I'm currently experimenting with it on is Knight.

"The play style that accompanies slugging is often like trying to turn DBD into a chess match which is actually very boring and/or annoying. "

Why is that boring? This description as both killer and survivor sounds fun to me, I enjoy chess.

"Onryos and Twins do this quite a bit with hit and run play styles. Without getting too granular, hit and run play styles are not fun especially in solo que. It's abusing the fact the survivors cannot effectively communicate their whereabouts so they either run around the map or they decide to just do gens injured."

Why is it not fun? Abusing is an interesting word choice. To me that implies "unfair" or like "taking advantage of". No communication is what the game is balanced around and intended. I would expect someone to play assuming they have a lack of communication. Are you saying we should assume every match is a 4 man swf on coms? I don't think you want that because now you'd be implying every killer should be entering the match ready to sweat off and tunnel out as the start, we don't want that.

"It snowballs again and again. Onryo plays for increasing condemned and Twins abuse Victor's downing efficiency. "

You describe this as if they're doing something they shouldn't be or unintended game play. That's how they work. That's what they're supposed to be doing. It's not "abuse". It's playing to their strengths and as intended.

No I am not misusing and that is not true. I'm sure you referenced the definition for this response, but it states:

bias - prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.

It can be considered unfair but the key defining feature is in the first clause that only requires you have prejudice for or against something. You stated you slug (at least sometimes) as a play style so obviously you would be biased as you fall in the group that is "for" slugging. Seeking out other arguments does not invalidate bias. There are plenty of political podcasts, talk shows, etc, that feature opposing view points but that doesn't change the viewpoint of the host or network it is on.

If you read my full original post I never said my intention or goal was stopping, that is not the point of this post. The point was not to change what I do, the point as stated was to try to understand the point of view of where people are coming from. IE trying to be open minded to see if my opinion is wrong.

This is why i asked what is even the point of the question. You're open to changing your mind but not your behavior... That's redundant to say the least. You're asking for well thought arguments against your current view point but the best they could get is "i agree. Thanks for your input." IF the behavior will not change then the understanding of the otherside literally doesn't matter. You ever heard "lions don't concern themselves with the opinions of sheep?" That's because lions will continue to be lions so there is no need to consider a sheep's perspective. If you come to the conclusion your opinion is indeed "wrong" but you will still slug, what is the conversation now really?

Who I'm currently experimenting with it on is Knight.

Figures. I can't stand Knight players.

Why is that boring? This description as both killer and survivor sounds fun to me, I enjoy chess.

If we wanted to play chess, guess what we'd play? Chess is fundamentally different from DBD. For starters, it is symmetrical. That symmetry means neither of you has an experience the can't have like different pieces, more or less information, different board, etc. DBD is not this, obviously. The same way making the survivor experience stronger/more fun can directly be tied to killer strength, and vice versa, means your idea of strategy may not align with the game as a whole or the survivor group's version of fun.

I don't know how to answer something you fundamentally cannot comprehend. You don't see how being slugged can be considered unfun, so what logical reasoning exists to make you see how it's unfun if you're okay with it... Abusing in the sense that no communication in this game is a developer oversight, not a feature. If people didn't have party chat or discord, this game would've died many years ago. The game isn't "balanced" around this because we can't know for certain what the reality would be if none of the games playedhad this stipulation. It could be a ######### show of we didn't have comm apps.

Let's make your play style very common... People don't communicate to eachother and instead have to run repeatedly around the map to get healed or risk doing gens until they're slugged in a corner of the map with what used to be a knockout perk that ruined any hope of you being found before a minute+ on the ground. Extrapolate that game out and make it common place. No funny moments talking to people, no ability to let out frustration and direct teammates to make better decisions, no agency on the ground. You'd kill DBD that way.

I'd challenge you to answer how being slugged can be considered FUN. You're asking how it's unfun. What reason do you have that would make people want to be in those games? Mixing your strategy with my teams inability to strategize as a core mechanic.

You describe this as if they're doing something they shouldn't be or unintended game play. That's how they work. That's what they're supposed to be doing. It's not "abuse". It's playing to their strengths and as intended

Just because it's intended, doesn't mean it can't be abused. Infinite loops are commonly referred to as "abused" when they existed in the games earlier stages. You'd have to equally disagree with all killer mains who had a problem with that. People called earlier MFT an abuser perk when combined with others even though it was intended.

They hate survivors yet they're playing as the survivor. Alright then. I might as well drop playing survivor if everyone thinks this way.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914546#Comment_3914546

But if killers mostly player survivor then haven't they learned the counters of killers? I devote to playing survivor. I play 90% times of survivor and 10% killer if I feel like to play some trapper or hag (I love trap killers makes me think a lot).

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914551#Comment_3914551

Okay so it's a lack of self-control on their part because they're addicted to dopamine. That makes a lot more sense.

I'm happy with not having this list when I play survivor. I come to enjoy and learn, and not expect anything, but this is getting out of hand.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914595#Comment_3914595

What does this mean? How can a trial be decided before the match starts? You can't know the present or the future until it happens. If everybody knew that it would be decided, they would have quit at lobby screen.

If bhvr decides to change the lobby and let everyone see the perks, items and addons, would you choose to quit or stay if they aren't using builds that are considered meta by many?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914599#Comment_3914599

I'm facing a dilemma here. Yes, it's saving a lot more time but it also give the survivors a quit option which they want to prevent but they encourage it at the same time. This integrity is slowly eroding over time.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914615#Comment_3914615

See, this is what I mean. This is what I get in almost all of my survivor games. It's people who give up at the slightest mistake. If our ancestors gave up centuries ago then we wouldn't be here in the first place. "Oh no a panther is attacking my family. I'll just curl up somewhere in a corner and cry" No, cry baby, it's time to grab a bow and arrow or spear and attack that #########.

Now that's a winner mindset. Don't let the downvotes get to you it's just people that are jealous by your resilience. Also with a name like that, respect, King.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3914674#Comment_3914674

I don't think it has much to do about anti-loop but more about: "What abilities can we put in before we run out of ideas in a limited gameplay loop such as Dead by Daylight?" There aren't many options anymore before people start to point out that A killer has part ability from B killer. We got so many killers and we're already at a point where people are calling it out.

That's a problem in general. People lack self-control. I think BHVR is trying to solve a problem that can't be solved.

Nothing to do with self control or lack thereof or even dopamine addiction. People play video games for fun. This is the same game you can get a killer who has fun by tunneling you out in the first 3 minutes and say "your fun is not my job." DBD is a roll of the dice every match. Some people think too highly of the game play loop and possibilities so they queue again with undeserved optimism.

So I understand your point correctly. You agree with me that there's nothing inherently wrong with slugging, and that the hate is just basically trauma from other people doing it to be toxic and them assuming that's what I'm doing? You'd also agree that them being left on the ground by teammates because of lack of urgency is their teams fault, not the killers?

If i understand you correctly it seems you basically agree with me then that slugging isn't toxic/bad/boring and it's just people carrying their trauma forward and assuming ill intent.

Thank you for the cordial conversation btw.

Im not sure what this conversation is for...

You've said you are open to changing your mind but I'm not sure that is actually the case because you're not an unbiased bystander in the conversation. You've come to enjoy and utilize the slugging option in your playstyle, so I'd imagine you're not going to just stop doing that because someone on here gives you a good argument for why people don't like it or why its bad. You already know people don't like it and continue to do it so the explanation wont be the difference maker - so what is the intended outcome here?

Firstly, you want to discuss slugging but have prematurely omitted instances of slugging that would be used as reasoning. Why? They also count as slugging.

Even without hatch and 4-man slug, it can be argued very annoying playstyle. Onryo - who I'm assuming is the character play like this on - is a habitual slugger. The play style that accompanies slugging is often like trying to turn DBD into a chess match which is actually very boring and/or annoying. I dont say that killer sided maps shouldnt be reworked. I say that blood lodge is unplayable on killer, like forgotten ruins unplayable on survivor and needs to be reworked. If you had no problems with this map it doesnt mean that its balanced

If you have to use hyperbole to make a point, it's not that strong of an argument. Calling the map "unplayable" and "basically impossible" in any capacity is a huge stretch. Coldwind is really unfun as a survivor but it's not unplayable.

Then why are they playing survivor when they do this? It doesn't make sense.

It's like gambling. They've possibly tasted winning before - even little victories, and are chasing that feeling of empowerment and giddy fun.

You play a killer that you don't like and receive an undesirable outcome, but you hope the next game is similar to one you think fondly of where you ran well, it felt tense but fun, and you managed to pull off some plays to get more people out.

But that game never comes so you're rage queuing over and over again waiting for the fun to start.

Game 9) Houndmaster 4k using hooks
Game 10) Spirit 4k, using hooks, tunneling at 5 gens.... with spirit. What a joke

Game 11) Survivor round 4k, says "More handholding for survivors happening in phase 2"
Trash talks his team all round, while avoiding body blocking or trading, or saving as a healthy survivor while other 2 are injured.
Flat out refuses to help save anyone late game and sticks on a generator to stealth out for hatch at 3 people, not 2... 3.

Continues to trash talk "more handholding is going to happen, which means they are going to get wins they shouldnt get... pretty much what I thought would happen and it is"
"killers need to play super super good, yea sadly" While they all got 4ked by a wesker and he didnt tunnel or camp.
"survivors dont need to play well at all"

    Gets found stealthing says
"Why do you want a 4k versus this complete potato team dude?"
"Nice, like why do you care about 4k against such a piss easy team?"
"Slugging for 2 minutes, looking for one survivor to get one kill"

Meanwhile he does this all the time.

Game 12) Ghoul 3k using hooks
Game 13) Ghoul 3k using hooks
Game 14) Knight 3k using hooks
Game 15) Ghoul 2k using hooks. Blames the map for the outcome (RPD) even thhough they have 0 regression perks and using iri mask.

Game 18) Ghoul 2k using hooks. Red mask obviously. No regression perks complains about generator speed, and DS.

Killer games: 14 wins, 2 ties
    Survivor games: 2 wins

Can do more but its just more of the same crap. He just trashes survivors say its so wildy easy, complains about things done to him that he himself does to others. All while winning 90%+ of his game each day on killer and playing a single game of survivor or two a day.

Has an extremely low mmr on survivor from what I can tell. The killers he gets are bordering brand new to the game.
And then just stomps on killer for 6+ hours a day, every day.

I saw one video of his where he was trying to convince himself that he had to slug 3 survivors to bleed out to have a chance at winning the match. Just sat there and kept reassuring himself with his chat echoing just how difficult it is to be a killer.

What videos or streams did you get that from BTW?

  • They have a dedicated section on the forums for feedback and suggestion if you didn't know. You should check it out. I'm sure the devs or community managers look there and may take it into account.

  • Do you not play killer as well?

Also, you'd probably see Duty of Care value in more end game situations. You hook save someone, take a protection hit, and now you're all sprinting towards the exit gate but you are a little more vulnerable than the other 3.

Nah you went way too conservative with this.

Because SWFs also have perfect gen efficiency and in fact they can hardly ever be downed when they start taking hits for each other. They get the rescue at the right time to counter everything the killer can do, tunneling, camping, 3-genning, chasing, shnoozling and flabbergasting. We have to consider all the arguments.

    Adjusted free SWF perk list:

    • Adrenaline, Aftercare, Alert, Any Means Necessary, Appraisal, Autodidact, Ace in the Hole, Background Player, Balanced Landing, Better Than New, Blood Pact, Bond, Boil Over, Boon: Circle of Healing, Boon: Dark Theory, Boon: Exponential, Boon: Illumination, Boon: Shadow Step, Borrowed Time, Botany Knowledge, Breakdown, Breakout, Buckle Up, Built to Last, Calm Spirit, Chemical Trap, Clairvoyance, Corrective Action, Counterforce, Cut Loose, Dance With Me, Dark Sense, Dead Hard, Deception, Decisive Strike, Dedication, Deliverance, Desperate Measures, Detectives Hunch, Distortion, Diversion, Empathy, Fast Track, Fixated, Flashbang, Flip-Flop, Fogwise, For the People, Guardian, Head On, Hope, Hyperfocus, Inner Focus, Inner Healing, Iron Will, Kindred, Leader, Left Behind, Light-Footed, Lithe, Lucky Break, Made for This, Mettle of Man, No Mither, No One Left Behind, Object of Obsession, Off the Record, Open-Handed, Overcome, Overzealous, Parental Guidance, Pharmacy, Plot Twist, Poised, Power Struggle, Premonition, Prove Thyself, Quick & Quiet, Quick Gambit, Reactive Healing, Red Herring, Renewal, Repressed Alliance, Resilience, Resurgence, Rookie Spirit, Saboteur, Scene Partner, Self-Aware, Self-Care, Self-Preservation, Situational Awareness, Slippery Meat, Smash Hit, Sole Survivor, Solidarity, Soul Guard, Spine Chill, Sprint Burst, Stake Out, Streetwise, Styptic Agent, Teamwork: Power of Two, Technician, Tenacity, This Is Not Happening, Troubleshooter, Unbreakable, Up the Ante, Urban Evasion, Vigil, Visionary, Wake Up!, We'll Make It, We're Gonna Live Forever, Windows of Opportunity, Wiretap

SWF is basically baby mode. It honestly blows my mind that 3 or 4 man SWF ever loses to anyone that isn't a comp Blight or Nurse

In the face of overwhelming evidence, maybe that should tell you it's not as ground breaking as you all make it out to be...

Most SWFs are not comp, 4-man, flashlight abusing, 10,000 hour survivors. And many aren't even in comms. You've played plenty of games against 2 or 3-man groups and you didn't know it because you still need to be good at the game.

  • @HeroLives said:

hard truth? A game that sucks pretty much for everyone else that’s not an A or higher tier killer or a 4swf on comms that’s played this game so long they understand most things and how to play around them. You don’t even have to play this game super long and just be a 4man and do better than most teams not on comms. The game is even worse on the sloped side because the expectation of learning and being on the same level with “hive cooperation” and expecting it to feel “fair” while paired with others is a big ask when killers are mostly built to succeed by design.

Ya know unless you’re just up for that kind of asymm challenge. Then it’s great. Depends on personal perspectives I suppose.

Anyways 4mans are putting the game on easiest mode on the survivor side. It’s why they can do well but not know gate spawns. There’s things unless you’ve sunk a ton of time into research and playing that comms just makes up for. You get a ton of built in perks that anyone else just playing has to learn or use perks to make up the difference for. Comms is that influential.

Understandable. Just is counterintuitive to nearly every other online game I've ever played. It's my opinion that if people didn't have an outlet to speak to teammates or friends at all, then the game would've peaked a long time ago and probably wouldn't have the roster it has today.

You mean using an outside resource the game isn't balanced around? For the amount of perks you basically get for free by having coms it's no different than the survivors loading in with like 12 perk slots each. For lots of people playing a match against survivors with 12 perk slots each instead of the intended 4 doesn't sound fun or fair so it's understandable.

No I mean simple communication. This isn't about "outside resources" when most games are made with communication in mind if you want people to be a "team." Not to mention people play online games to meet people and chat with one another. If this game had no comms at all, including discord, the win rate for killer would be higher than the 60% they have now, the killers that get nerfed into the ground would be the norm, and the game wouldn't be as popular or longstanding.

I counted once, its 63 perks they get for free. Plus many other things that aren't perks. To be fair this was like, 2 years ago, so its probably more now.

    Please list all 63.

  • I believe yes you could get banned. People used to mod the game in similar fashion and they made it so altering the game's script is banable. There are perk overlays like some streamers have which won't get you banned though. Not sure how they do it but it's similar to changing the theme on your phone.

  • There's no sure fire strategy that will produce a specific outcome as if you were playing an NPC you could bait, but mind gaming is simply doing certain maneuvers that can aid in you extending a loop/chase, staying alive, and hopefully making it out the game.

Look at any 5 gen chase compilation and you'll see a bunch of examples.

    • faking the drop of a pallet

    • faking the vault of a pallet or window

    • slow vaulting a pallet/window so the killer doesn't get a fast vault sound cue

    • changing your pathing to make it more unconventional

    • losing line of sight and using your third person advantage to check spot around the corner to see what the killer is doing

    • attempting a 360 to make the killer think you'll continue to try it. Even twitching your character in one direction at the right time can cause the killer to do a camera flick to try and counter what they think will be a spin.

  • Not a dumb question at all.

    Here's the link: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

For the first drop down select dead by daylight and then fill out the rest of the sections. The contact reason box allow you to pick 'ban appeal' 'DC penalty appeal' 'bug report' and others. Just choose what you'd like them to categorize it as. For you, I believe the best would be 'DC penalty appeal'.

Its how it works in every other multiplayer game. The advantage usually lies with the attacker. But in DBD, there is only 1 attacker.

I am not sure what you mean. Can you explain using a symmetric FPS game type like COD or Battlefield?

  • I'm sure there's discord servers that you can find people in. Im not sure the names of them but you're in the best place to find out. Just ask in the general section for any chat rooms or simply solicit and available players that are cool with teaming with no comms. I'm positive you'll find a few.

  • I think the best way would to be report it to BHVR. Put in a ticket and tell them your experience, however i have to warn you, you wont be unbanned remotely because you let them know. It will just help identify there is a problem for them to solve. There's quite a bit of issues present at the moment it seems.

  • You can mix and match them for your best benefit but Dance with me, Shadow Step, and Parental guidance aid in your being able to evade while injured.

If you want speed, you can go MFT and Dark Theory when facing a kaneki.

You could go resilience, iron will, parental guidance, deja vu and a medkit. 99 the heal and get your 15% increased repair speed.

You could go windows, resilience, dark theory, dead hard.

Up to you on what you want the chase to be geared towards: Speed, efficiency/productivity, or evasion/losing the killer.

  • There's a hidden trophy called "Steve-gull" that pops after screaming 100 times using scene partner.

It's true. I put it in the game myself.

It feels like this entire system was added as a way to prevent survivors from getting pissed off over being finisher mori'd. 90% of matches I get a 4k, the last guy just DCs cause he doesn't want to watch a 10 second animation. Not to mention, Survivors can basically quit the match whenever they want by giving up and letting the Killer down everyone, meanwhile Killers can only DC once every survivor does. Meaning, a SWF can just leave a match with basically no penalty the second they go against a Killer or Map they don't like, while a Killer is stuck playing out every single match, no matter how badly they want to leave it.

It's sucks that Kaneki is so broken that nobody is pointing out how stupid this system is.

Survivors can basically quit the match whenever they want by giving up and letting the Killer down everyone.

while a Killer is stuck playing out every single match, no matter how badly they want to leave it.

lets the last survivor DC early to avoid seeing the Killer actually mori them. Which are both just pathetic reasons to leave

Do you understand the words you're using? Survivors can quit "whenever they want" but the catalyst is everyone has to be downed... doesn't sound as on-command as you're making it out.

You're not stuck no matter what. If those 4 Survivors you've just downed left the match to move on, you're also given the option to end the game.

You have an issue with someone not being forced to watch your mori animation? Like that's the fuss? You've won the game already and but you're not happy cause they dont watch your victory lap? Might want to dig deep to find out what that's all about...

  • Where can I read about this new game mode?

  • @JPLongstreet said:

Running Bond or Kindred is a double-edged sword. Yeah when solo you get far more info about who's where and doing what, but you also now see who's where and not doing squat. 😋

Very true. I average at least 4 "######### is she/he doing"'s per game when using bond.

  • @100PercentBPMain said:

Killers would need an across thr board nerf. Killers should just expect every match to be a 4man swf and play based off that assumption. I've never liked taking advantage of lack of communication it feels like cheating

I can see why you'd say that. I always thought it was a little odd that an online versus game preferred you didnt speak to your teammates. I thought it was maybe because they wanted you to feel more afraid, perhaps? Since the game used to be more eerie and unsettling, they figured it would help to feel like you're alone in some vast spooky place.

  • It's a good mixture of both.

There are people in both camps that want to have their cake and eat it too, and some who realize it's give & take. DBD, and other assym's, throw a curveball into the mix when it comes to creating and maintaining a game. People are more consciously used to symmetrical games or single player, so when you have to find balance or equal value comparing apples versus oranges, you have your work cut out for you.

There are the easy "us v. them" arguments like people saying getting rid of SWF entirely (which would kill the game), and you have people that try to come up with solutions to bring a better quality of life without harming their opponent like those that propose power/perk tweaks down to the cool down time.

I, myself, focus on core game things like hit boxes, hit detection, server reliability, etc., more than you'll ever see me say "NERF GRIM EMBRACE"

  • How do I get down voted for asking what DBD would be like if people didn't have voice chat? LOL. I didnt even give an opinion. #forumthings

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

The big strength of SWF is not communication, the big strength of SWF is to remove teammate RNG. I dont really know what people think what SWFs talk to during Discord Calls, but I can assure you that 99% of SWFs are not doing some tournament callouts. I have seen 4 mans not even talking about the game when playing with each other.

I dont think that DBD would exist without the ability to use Discord or other measurements of communication. Since a large part of playing with friends is to talk to each other. And the Devs also knew this in 2016, while the game might not be build around voice communication with the lack of information the game provides, even in 2016 the Devs were well aware that such programs exist.

Understandable idea, but i dont think it outshines the need for information or game mapping. Not everyone in a swf is some looping god, so being able to give an accurate estimate of what's next is what makes people think its so unbareable, not the fact they just face people who loop well. Meaning flash light saves, locker saves, taking hits, etc. It doesn't have to be tournament call outs but it's a very real reality you don't need information perks when in a voice chat swf. Just being able to communicate and say where the killer is or was last helps tremendously then you return to your convo about Twitter or whatever.

I don't see how they could have ever avoided comms, as things like Discord are separate from the game itself, and it's built right into the consoles. For survivor it's a multiplayer team game, so comms is unavoidable.

    I get that, but it's a hypothetical.

  • Kindred, Deja vu, were gonna live forever, shoulder the burden, borrowed time, botany knowledge, etc. You can mix and match them however you like. I personally like "we're gonna live forever" for some cheeky pick up plays. Someone shows themselves for a potential blind or pallet save and bait the chase, if they bite u come in for the save and they get a free endurance hit or make it somewhere safe.

  • @Rokku_Rorru said:

It's just awfully made and they can traverse the map like it doesnt exist too, Actually illy thought through about the players experience on the other side at all.

You have more patience than I to write something like this that's for sure.

Ive played a few more games against him and yeah... my attitude is souring. Not looking too good. I got hit with his lock on on the actual other side of a wall. Some other stuff with his speed after hit as well has gotten to me.

  • I haven't used dead hard in a few years. This is before the changes. Mainly because it would only prompt itself when I'm hugging an item or surface. Literally. I had to touch a barrel, a wall, rock, tree, fence, etc. for it to even let have an opportunity to use it. Put in a ticket with video proof, went back some months later and it still wasn't fixed.

  • I will keep testing/playing but I just had a match where he whips into the Dead Dawg Saloon after having whipped/jumped(?) twice before. He lands inside the saloon and i am turning a corner while he is behind a table about an easy 15-17 feet away from me, and out of nowhere I'm just outright halted with the teeth marks on me. He gets the injure. In that moment, it felt like I literally couldn't have done anything to prevent it. I'm guessing the only thing is line of sight breaking, but as it appeared now, it's an automatic lock on hit in which you have to just stand there and take it.

  • The bubble gives me conniptions.

  • For me, it's literally the only part of the game that exhibits any real skill expression. I heavily rely on it. Stealth is only fun in trace amounts. I'm not in a rush to crouch behind something and get back to watching a bar fill up for minutes at a time.

As others have said, it is killer dependent. I enjoy Nemesis, Wesker, Vecna, Bubba, Billy, Demo, etc. The rest are either ehhh or entirely hated like Clown. Powers that force the game to be strategic or efficient with gens are the worst imo. I'm solo q so I like feeling adequate on my own. Hook saves are cool sometimes but I'm not pumping my fist over them.

The servers during Chaos Shuffle have been absolutely horrendous for me. Why am I getting ping spikes of 500? What is happening? Every other game and connection I have is fine, it's just DbD that is completely falling apart to the point of being unplayable.

Does this game have more than one server in America? Doesn't feel like it.

Yeah it has an East and West US server. I have a post also asking for a Central server. Doubt it'll happen but yeah.

This is a game no need to socialize with others. Get Facebook or something for that stuff.

What a weird comment. Some of my closest friendships have begun because of us playing games together. There are uncountable friendships that began in halo, COD, world of war craft, etc.

  • Yes, they are going to deincentivize giving up on hook. It will probably be in the form of punishing survivors for leaving and not identifying the root cause, so I don't think you'll see a change in the outcomes or effort in your games.
