  • Seems like the general consensus is that this is a well-balanced perk idea. Not too weak, not too strong, could be meta, and has good synergy with some perks/builds/killers. Just needs to add a survivor scream when the effect triggers like with Iron Maiden. Awesome!

  • @Zeus Ya this perk idea came about by thinking what would be a good reverse-nemesis perk. Something that would pair well with Save the Best For Last. It's like haha you failed to get the stun, you're not worthy of being my obsession.

@CLAUDETTEINABUSH Ya, it would open up a whole new world of mindgames for the survivors facing it. If I'm the obsession, should I camp the pallet and get the surprise stun to make distance or try to abuse the fact that the killer is likely to respect the pallet and get some more loops in. Pairing with Nemesis though is an interesting thought. That would be pretty chaotic and fun. You'd have to keep swapping them to maximize use and keep getting their effects back to back in a chase (creating even more mindgames). If you're chasing the obsession, you want them to miss the stun and get slowed. Now they're not your obsession and next pallet you can play more aggressive to force the stun and make them oblivious with the aura reveal. Rinse and repeat.

  • @Snap_Tobiyume I'm thinking maybe the survivor would scream like when they exit a locker with iron maiden and get slowed down by an amount and duration that's comparable to Freddy's snares.

  • @Superyoshiegg Ya, but that definitely came off like he was just covering his bases in case they had trouble getting 2 licenses in any given year later on down the road. It's just odd that they'd say buzz phrases like 50% and 2 licenses a year, only to immediately close out this year with just 1 license. It sounds like there's a lot of licenses they're really excited about possibly getting into DBD so you'd think they'd try to hit 2 a year as often as possible. And ya I'm hoping the anniversary chapter is licensed. Fingers crossed.

  • @Orion I know that wasn't your intention. I'm actually impressed by the effort you put in. I recognize that this isn't the first time there has been a licensed chapter drought. However, back then, they hadn't mentioned that 50% goal, which is why I'm only now bringing this up. On the Licensing Q&A YouTube video posted on October 16, 2020, Mathieu Cote said the following at the 50:40 timestamp:

"We come up with 4 chapters a year...more or less. If you count the first year it was maybe...it's about 4 a year. Out of that, we try to keep at least 50% of those originals because it's important to us to continue working on our own story and continue to deepen the lore of Dead By Daylight so that's an average that we're going to try to keep. That means 2 possible licenses a year...maybe...maximum. How many out there? There's so many. We've been live for it seems like forever but it's 5 years. 5 years...2 licenses a year...that's about 10 licenses...we're close to that right now so ya there's no way we can bring in 50 different licenses. We wouldn't want to do that anyway. At this point we have to pick out battles. There are still some really really cool ones out there but we want them to be a surprise when we bring them to you."

I would like to note that they had just released the Blight and the 2 chapters since then have also been original to make 3 in a row. Considering that the majority of the current roster is original, making a schedule where every other chapter is licensed from here on out would hit that 2 licenses per year (and no more than that) goal while keeping the roster majority original and massively reducing community disappointment. Original chapter fans would know when their next chapter is coming and licensed chapter fans would know that as well.

  • @Orion Again, I'm just stating the recent trend since they only recently mentioned their 50% goal (I'm sure that wasn't always the goal). I'm not trying to mislead anyone; I'm just commenting that their recent releases aren't moving them in the direction of their recently stated goal and I'm hoping the next few chapters change that.

  • @Orion Look, can you at least agree that for people who really enjoy licensed chapters, the fact that we've only had 1 in the past year and a half is a bit frustrating?

  • @Orion Of course an overall trend line would slant upward because the game started with zero licenses...

  • @Mooks Ya, I hope they do add more soon. I think a lot of people would be happy if they stuck to an every other chapter being licensed schedule and that would keep the percentage close to, but not ever more than 50%.

  • @Orion As I stated in my original post, I'm looking at recent trends. In the past year and a half, there has been 1 licensed chapter and 5 original, which is the source of my frustration. I'm saying recently this has become an issue. You even pointed out that they are going in the wrong direction (35% -> 30.4%). That's a trend away from their goal...which was my point. Also, you can't take a past segment of data and say it's "moving" in the right direction. It moved in the right direction back then, but now it's not.

  • @Mooks I'm not asking for more that 50%. If they just stuck to a schedule where every other chapter is licensed, we would have a consistent 50% from here on out and there would still be a majority of original killers in the roster.

  • @Orion They're not in the process of achieving that goal though. By releasing so many original chapters compared to licensed chapters, they're actually moving the percentage away from their goal, not towards it. They're essentially running the race in the wrong direction.

  • @Echorion I'm surprised as well. Usually the censorship squad is the only team at Behavior that moves quickly. If it had been a certain celestial fruit instead of Scott you know this thread would be gone in a heartbeat.

  • I completely agree with the video. Everything I say is because I love this game and want to see it do better. I used to purchase every DLC and many outfits because I wanted to support the game. Ever since the most recent Halloween "event" though, I have stopped giving Behavior my money because of their obvious greed. With the half-baked Binding of Kin chapter, I have added developer laziness to the reasons I choose to no longer support the game with my money.

Behavior...you need to start releasing patches that don't break the game and squash bugs much faster. You have so many fans with tons of experience that you could use to QA test potential game ideas and changes...use them. You need to make more significant changes to perks, killers, add-ons, items, etc. more often. It can't be that hard to give Trapper a brown bag and Wraith a yellow windstorm by default (the entire community's been saying this is a needed change for ages). How long have iridescent head hatchets and keys been an issue with no changes? Why did it take so long to make such a simple change to moris when they were such a big issue? Didn't you guys tease adding more items to spice up gameplay a long time ago?

The early game ramp-up phase that you're working on needs to be something game-changing and interesting like finding missing gen parts to be able to start repairing them and reducing gen repair time to compensate (not just a lazy copy-paste of the end game collapse but in reverse). You need to add a second game mode that's on a weekly rotation (like one week everyone has +50% speed, the next week everyone can bring 6 perks, etc.). You need to add more UI placement options, make the portraits reflect character cosmetics, and add colorblind options. Your events need to have earnable cosmetics through gameplay (log-in rewards don't count) and the Halloween event especially needs 2 earnable outfits with event currency that can be used on current and past Halloween outfits. You just need to do better for your fans so we can feel justified in supporting you financially. What we're getting from you now just isn't cutting it. I'm begging you, please do better.

P.S. You'd probably sell more cosmetics and increase variety in the game by making them not cost more than the characters themselves.

  • Wow look at these mods censoring legitimate criticism about their most recent killer by banishing my thread to the off-topic section of the forums when I'm clearly talking about the current state of the game! My games are being ruined by constant OP Shrek killers and these mods pull this....My rights are being infringed upon and this will not stand! Move my thread back or I will throw a tantrum like the world has never seen before!

  • Same problem here. Even with a brand new wired headset plugged into a brand new wireless controller, the constant audio pops/stutters are atrocious in the game menu and during gameplay on Xbox Series X.

  • I'm having this exact issue as well on my new Xbox Series X as well. I have downloaded the next-gen update for this game as prompted, but whenever I select "play as survivor" in the main menu, the game freezes and then crashes.

  • Your suggestions are all good, but the main reason for the backlash is the lack of a cool Halloween reward for people to work towards as they play the event. They've historically had event currency that you could earn and redeem for a couple of Halloween blight cosmetic sets. This year, they didn't include the earn-able currency but still put out blight cosmetics for people to buy. It's being rightfully lambasted as a blatant cash-grab rather than a fun, rewarding event to celebrate the holiday. I'll usually earn the 2 cosmetic sets then buy 1-2 more sets. This year I'm not buying any (no matter how cool they look) because I refuse to reward their greed.

  • Simple solution. If the killer is in a certain range of a hooked survivor and not in a chase, the hook progress is paused. If they are in a chase within that range, the hook progress resumes. I'm not seeing how that can possibly be exploited by either side.

  • Ok now I'm sad that we're not getting that Huntress update this mid-chapter patch. I really want to see what the devs make her second ultra-rare add-on.

  • @arcnkd Well I mean they did update the bloodweb so we could get 2 perks instead of just 1 at lvl 50+. Now they've added more offerings? I'm sure this isn't the final iteration of the bloodweb.

  • @arcnkd The devs mentioned they were open to adding more items in the game, hence why people are posting their ideas. I seriously doubt they will remove any items that people have spent bloodpoints on (and their add-ons as well). I wouldn't be opposed to making it an in-game item only. The add-ons aren't critical to the overall concept of the item and it would throw an interesting curve-ball into games randomly. That would also prevent a full team with 4 shotguns bringing builds to cater to the shotgun plays. That being said, I'm sure they will eventually rework the bloodweb as they keep adding more items, add-ons, offerings, etc. by doing something like making it larger and reducing global costs, being able to sell unwanted things back for a reduced price, removing perk tiers...

  • @JimPickens666 I also mentioned those strategies as the optimal ways to use it to minimize survivor frustrations in a reply above. I do like the FTP assist to use 2 shells though. That's pretty creative.

  • @JimPickens666 Considering this has a 50% chance of benefiting the survivor team and 50% chance of benefiting the killer, I would say this really doesn't affect the overall balance of the game. It levels itself out.

  • @Maníaco_da_garrafa I feel ya man. The grind in this game is real and if you don't buy DLC, you have to rely on the unreliable shrine. I would like you to consider 2 things though:

    1. This add-on has an effect regardless of perks. It makes survivors broken, which is pretty powerful. After considering it, I edited my original idea to increase the broken duration to 60 seconds to be a bit more impactful and match the Legion Pin add-on.
    2. There are tons of other add-ons in this game that improve the effectiveness of perks (DLC perks included). They just don't explicitly say so. Some examples are the Shape's Dead Rabbit add-on that can benefit a bunch of terror radius perks like Infectious Fright, the Wraith's "The Serpent" - Soot add-on that pairs really well with Brutal Strength and Fire Up, the Hillbilly's Tuned Carburetor and Mother's Helpers add-ons that make the Enduring/Spirit Fury combo even more deadly, the Spirit's Prayer Bead's Bracelet add-on that pairs well with totem builds and Dead Man's Switch builds...the list goes on.

My point is that people will always come up with creative builds in which add-ons and perks (including DLC perks) have great synergies and even without perks, this add-on still has a powerful effect.

  • You guys bring up as lot of good points. I still think it should have the coin-flip backfire mechanic though. It should be a risk to use since it is so powerful. I imagine that most survivors knowing the risks will have reactions along the line of "aww damn too bad" if it backfires and injures them and "whoo yeah!" if they get a successful stun. I think the 2 most effective uses of this item to limit survivor frustration would be to either attempt a save while you're healthy so you won't go down or to use it when you run into a dead zone and know you're dead anyway so you might as well attempt a stun that could give you time to get to a loop.

@APoipleTurtle It is worth mentioning though that there are a lot of luck-based mechanics already in the game on both sides. Like a 4% chance to jump off the hook? That's a similar risk to survivors since trying to jump off the hook speeds up the sacrifice process. I'm also totally down to expand firecrackers by putting them in standard bloodwebs, adding several uses by default, and creating add-ons for them.

@Avarice10 I also agree that it shouldn't cause friendly fire under normal circumstances. If you just shoot at your teammate, it shouldn't damage them since that would just be a way to grief your teammates. However, when you use a shotgun to save a teammate being carried, I included putting the teammate saved into deep wounds for balance reasons. The killer will have a slight advantage to re-down the survivor quickly since their screen will dim and fill with blood, but the saved survivor can't complain either since they would have been otherwise hooked. The flashlight range, while unrealistic, is for balance purposes.

  • Anyone have any constructive feedback on this item? I'd love to discuss the possible merits, drawbacks, and funny situations that could happen.

  • @Maníaco_da_garrafa Sorry man but balancing the game only around general perks isn't going to happen. Even so, NOED and Sloppy would be pretty effective with this add-on. In fact, those are probably the perks with the best synergies with this add-on (Devour Hope and Haunted Grounds being the other standouts I can think of). Other than that, this can be used to trigger Dark Devotion, Franklin's Demise, Blood Favor, the Third Seal, Iron Maiden, Make Your Choice, Rancor, Remember Me, Save the Best For Last, (maybe Unrelenting), Dragon's Grip, Gearhead, Knock Out, and Surge. None of those seem particularly game-breaking. I personally would create a build to apply as many effects as possible with hatchet hits. So Venomous Concoction, Yew Seed Concoction, Sloppy Butcher, the Third Seal, Dark Devotion, and Franklin's Demise. So many possibilities.

  • @2ndBusiestmusicnerd You probably wouldn't want to shoot the Spirit if she's standing still because she could be phasing and you can't stun the husk the Spirit leaves behind. That would make your coin flip decision to shoot even more risky because it could all be for nothing. It would only work if she was mind-gaming by standing still and you won the coin toss. Still though, it would be funny to successfully call the Spirit's mind-game like that.

  • @Kind_Lemon Eww... No offense, but that idea sounds terrible from a balance and logic perspective. Do you have any comments on or critiques of my idea?

  • @Azza_WR What causes that nurse bug? I'd like to avoid it if I can.

As far as low FPS/lag and audio issues, I've heard a lot of people are having these issues, so hopefully they'll be addressed as well sooner rather than later.

  • 2v8 gets suggested a lot, but unfortunately, it probably wouldn't work well for a ton of reasons. That being said, now that the player pool is significantly larger with crossplay, I would like to see 2 playlists. One would be regular DBD and the other would be a rotating playlist with different, fun variations on the core DBD formula. The devs could start with just 2 of these alternate DBD game modes and swap them out each week, adding more to the rotation as time goes on. A pitch for one of these game modes off the top of my head would be something like Turbo DBD: Survivors move at +100% speed (200%) and killers also move at +100% speed (215% for most killers). Simple number changes and boom, you have a fun new game mode (I'm not a game dev so if it's not that simple don't roast me, I was just trying to come up with something that is seemingly a simple tweak). I'm sure the devs could come up with all sorts of fun ideas like that.

  • Ya, I mentioned this exact issue on another post so hopefully the devs fix it like they did by reverting the aura changes. I also played a match of legion and it happened to be on Yamaoka Estate so I don't know if it's a complete change to killer instinct or just a map-specific issue. If it is a complete change, the new icons are so dull and dark red now, they were near impossible to see (and I'm not colorblind). Killer instinct needs to be reverted back to how it was as soon as possible (especially for the sake of colorblind people).

Also, devs, please add colorblind settings (especially for things like scratch marks, auras, and killer instinct icons). This is something the colorblind DBD community has been begging for.

  • Well hopefully the devs see this and fix these issues.

  • I've thought about this quite a bit since Huntress is probably next up for a rework (she's now the only killer with just 1 iridescent add-on). Here's what I think the iridescent add-ons should be.

Iridescent Head: Hatchet hits 20 meters or more away insta-down. No reduction in hatchets.

Other Iridescent: Hatchet hits inflict the broken status effect for 30 seconds and hatchet hits count as basic attacks (any perk normally activated by a basic attack is now also activated by hatchet hits).

    Thoughts?

  • It's also worth noting that most people buy convention tickets more than a week in advance, which is all the notice the devs gave us about this bloodhunt (and no, I'm not going to Twitchcon before anyone asks).

  • The fact that they were aware of this overlap and are still scheduling the dbp event that weekend is the whole point of this post. To try to get them to change their minds and move it to a weekend that makes more sense for the whole community. However, based on the responses to this post I'm rather appalled at the selfishness, greed, and lack of patience being shown here. This isn't the DBD community I know.

  • They only just announced the dates 2 days ago. In fact, it might make it easier for people to request time off a week later since they'll have more notice (if the devs change it soon).

  • It's the convention for Twitch, the streaming service.

  • Every streamer I've ever watched by DBD is always so excited when there's a dbp event. Many of them are also excited about Twitchcon. Would it kill you guys to have to wait 1 more week for dbp? Many non-streamers also go to Twitchcon. Fyi I'm not a streamer, I'm just thinking about everyone, not just myself.

  • Oh and I'm sure you guys had your reasons, but in my opinion, hatch grabbing should be brought back as well. It adds an interesting variable in hatch encounters and epic hatch grabs are just so satisfying.

  • A demon would be a pretty cool killer.

  • Ya it would be luck based and any add-on that would prevent backfiring from injuring you would have to be ultra-rare but still penalize. The killer could counter by closing the gap and if the survivor is injured when firing, the killer could easy punish by smacking them into the dying state (maybe the survivor gets stunned on backfire).
