  • Skill aside, is it just now valid because pro players use it? Lol

I do love a good Otz video, but I don't see him nor the others as end all be alls of DbD techniques

  • Low-key if I was weak I'd buy my Feng Min some skins by now lol, as a a recovered MMO addict they call to me

Luckily this doesn't happen too often and I did make a report of this, but just an example of real toxicity.

Yeah, now this is the stuff I think should be on blast. :( So uncalled for. Survivors like those need to get bopped with some sort of consequence.

    I'm sorry my guy.

  • I wish people took more screenshots of the post game chats to show what real toxicity is like. I think that's better than anecdotal gameplay.

Hell, gameplay is gameplay. Trash talking chat is unnecessary.

  • It's just a shame that BHVR might not go in this way, based on what the community says and how they felt for years. There's other games where the devs take much attention into the balancing and experience. And DbD is not one of those.

Not saying it's the worst. But it ain't the best.

  • If they can get the ambiance to be as immersive as Phasmophobia, then I'd be properly creeped out haha.

But if you played with me, you'd know I play this game scared, in the jumpscare and chase kinda way lol.

But I agree that BHVR wouldn't go in this direction, based on what current content is like. Unfortunately. Could've been great.

  • "Early game warm-up" made me think that all 4 survivors and the killer do calisthenics together lol

  • I'd rather a cute keychain tbh...........

Like those cute figurines of the survivors/killers, but keychains I can put on a backpack.

Or heck, even a flat acrylic charm, man. Like those things artists sell on Etsy.

  • I'll say in yellow ranks, this doesn't happen too much. If it does, it sucks, but it's not a majority of my games. The hooks and hits tend to be pretty even, unless I don't play well and end up being an easy target.

If I'm the first one killed at 4-5 gens left when the others are Scott free for THREE games straight, I'd be bothered, but I'd call it a bad coincidence. And I'd hope it'd stop lol.

I'm just a simple survivor doing survivory things. I don't know what goes through the killer's head. But thinking "yeahhhhh lemme focus on THIS potato and get him out of the game" isn't my immediate thought. I'm just tryna hide and do gens and heal people man.

lol good to know! I was going to go with candy. Like survivors have an identity crisis and think they're piñatas:P

It's only in endgame that my identity crisis makes me run towards my fellow man on hook screaming "I WILL BE YOUR HERO BABY", followed by a swift chainsaw to my face and a backflip into the floor lmao

I'd never attempt it mid game though. I run Kindred in 100% of my games. If some Bubba decides to admire his newly-hung piñata somewhere off in the distance, I'll just keep on my gens until he decides he doesn't like his piñata anymore and goes to find a new one. But I relish in knowing I'm not gonna have the candy knocked out of me anytime soon lol

  • Wait, does spine chill trigger when she's looking in her phase?

Cuz like I run spine chill all the time and I still die to her (yellow ranks), what's her counterplay besides iron will?

  • As THAT survivor, I swear to you it's a freaking moth to a light effect. 😂

I get really guilty if someone gets hooked and I get to the gate. Like "what if this rando hates me if I see me walk out this gate?!"

Then my SWF scolds me for thinking this way, because when I go in to save them, I'm downed and essentially traded out some rando for myself. "See Potato? This is why we don't help people"

I tell myself "maybe the rando will thank me"...its a thankless endeavor LOL

it helps if I'm not caring about bloodpoints or pips. I recently prestiged someone and poured a buncha blood points on em, so I sorta want some more wins. Maybe I'll be more selfish. Or maybe I'll still stay altruistic. Who knows.

Thank you so much, I'll try Spine Chill again, it sounds very helpful! And yes I'm using Kindred and love it! It really helps alot, it's one of my favorite survivor perks so far lol. I ended up getting Inner Strength, I'm horrible at finding totems but I've found a few since getting the perk luckily, maybe I'll start finding them better lol. I think I'll work on leveling up Jake for Iron Will. Thank you for your help :)

No prob, happy to help a fellow survivor in the fog! :) You'll be better than me at finding totems in no time haha

Also, for totems, a tip I learned from the forums is to get small game, but leave it at level 1. Don't try to increase it to 3 if you have trouble finding totems.

The concept is, Small Game's radius increases the more you level it (8 meters at tier 1, 10m at tier 2,and 12m at tier 3). Which means, the higher leveled it is, the more it'll go off the /farther/ you are from a totem. For a more accurate trigger, it's easier to keep your Small Game at tier 1, so that when you do hear it go off, you'll probably be closer to the actual location lol. (instead of me with the Small Game maxed out walking in circles looking for the dang thing lol)

  • Yeah, when I'm in vc, I can tell when someone's going thru their bloodwebs lol. I don't hear gameplay, but I do hear the crunching squishy sound of getting new items and perks.

Though, it's sorta a satisfying sound by now LOL

  • Both calling people things that are uncalled for and going in their DMs are atrocious and toxic. I find those two be two separate issues that can be stacked, but I wouldn't accept one or the other. A killer killing people in DbD isn't racist/homophobic, its their objective, and accusing such is awful. And going into a player's personal space to harass them on gameplay I think should have consequences as well.

Coming from the topic where someone said "you deserve the trash talk if you play toxic", I think it's just a matter of context. There's a number of people here on the forums who think that facecamping or slugging people is so poor of a way to play, that they're not deserving of respect, and that playing that way is toxic in of itself. By the same token, there's also people that say that it's up to the survivors to play better and that facecamping is a valid strategy by BHVR.

It's a discussion where opinions are agree to disagree I think, because killers and survivors will play how they play. But imo, calling someone racist/sexist or going into DMs or steam profiles to tell off your killer is unacceptable regardless of opinion.

    @PotatoPlayer kudos to you..

That's what I would expect too..

FC is a dumb "strategy" most of the cases, or is a toxic action..

So if the feel to compete in the game kicks in, or if there's no need to want to be toxic, then why do it..

If you're asking, beats me. I'm a survivor main aha

With my SWF, we're not as toxic as this forum let's on. We really do just run to play a teamwork oriented game. We run flashlights or sabotage hooks to try and give our teammates time to wiggle out. We run key and map because our monkey brains think a group hatch victory sounds cool but never had one. And we t-bag because the one guy who got us into the game did it so we started to do it LOL, but we mainly do it in the gates or if we want to get the killer's attention, not to say the killer is dumb as rocks. We're not sweatily malicious.

I'd feel like ######### if I saw anyone else, killer or survivor, tell me in chat (or ESPECIALLY on steam) I need to git gud. I'd really recommend making your steam profile private if you're on PC and turning off game chat. Some people just are toxic, and you can choose to not deal with that.

They get off on agitating people. Don't waste your mental energy getting frustrated with em. It's easier to do so when you quickly leave one game to get into another. (or lag survivor lol)

I wish I could be that hopeful lol, but every time I think the devs add something new and interesting it always seems to be a negative for killers, for example gear head nerfed for no reason, breakable walls have to be broken to stop god loops etc. Trickster changes, so far useless against high skill and nerfed his strongest addon but maybe you'll be right

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2034937#Comment_2034937

Well I can have fun as a solo survivor and even killer when it's not all fast gen games with little freedom, I'm great at chases but ffs when I down players fast I dont expect the gens to still fly by and slugging, tunneling and 3gen every match isn't fun even more so as weaker killers. Played both roles as rank 1 for 4+years, play the weaker killers for fun and because you hardly see them but with mmr it's not fun and balanced for it. Might see you playing survivor though so see you in the fog :)

Good mindset to have :) I always like seeing players prioritize fun over strategic play, or an uncommon killer. (was talking to my friend that we haven't seen oni in ever, so he went and bought oni himself lol)

If MMR ever puts yellows and reds together again, maybe I will see you lol, but in the meantime I hope you have a ton of fun chases!

  • Rank isn't it for me. It's a nice number and makes me feel good, but eh if people based their personal wins on pipping, it'd feel so sweaty I'd think.

In my SWFs, I consider it a win if one of us gets out, even at the cost of others. I don't mind getting hooked if it means my friends get out.

In solos, I consider it a win if I get out, followed by if me getting hooked directly helps a random get out. When 1-2 other people are with me on a gen and the killer comes, I intentionally hop off of gens to distract him, and if I get hooked or die in that pursuit and see the others complete objectives, then that works for me. (given, this isn't a good strategy, especially if I'm not great at chases, but I feel like being a martyr contributes better than trying to figure a mind game lol)

Overall, I really like getting blood points, no matter how little or how much. Being able to spend them after accumulating them makes my lizard brain feel good, so that's a win too.

  • I'm a low ranked but I see Bubba a lot, way way more than Billy. His instadowns stink, and his face camping isn't fun. I always try to help with rescues against facecampy Bubbas, and it just ends up being a hook exchange and a buncha injuries.

I'm inclined to say Bubba lol. Billy is just too rare for me.

  • I'd offer to play SWF with you! Gotta find some fun in our lives somehow.

But thanks for being part of the killer queue for the time you did. I like to think killers are way more valuable than the saturated survivors. Games wouldn't be possible without you, rank or not.

  • I think it's pretty sad that you let a past game's toxicity affect your gameplay for a future set of players, but idk go off I guess.

Not every survivor wants to t-bag someone into oblivion or spend their day trying to DDOS some random killer. And I truly believe that if I get facecamped, the killer doesn't mean to make me feel like I'm trash lol. (plus face camping means my teammates don't have to worry, it's a poor strategy)

Just turn off your post game chat, dude.

  • I been playing for several months and I don't have the totems memorized, so I skipped on buying Inner Strength.

It'd be fun if I knew where they were, but nah lol. I just cleanse in the rare 10% chance I see an active hex going.

  • Lol I'd play killer but it wouldn't necessarily guarantee I'd finish the daily

I'm THAT bad at playing killer 😂

Whenever I get killer dailies, I just trash it or wait til the next day, goodness knows I'd just give everyone a free win if I attempted a daily

Also, I've heard alot about the perk Spine Chill. I used it once but it didn't really help me. But I probably didn't know what I was doing either lol

Not the person you're replying to, but when I first started, Spine Chill and Kindred were super helpful for me! They're part of the general pool for all survivors, but they were the most helpful. Took me awhile to get used to them though.

Like Karu said, Spine Chill (cat shaped icon) let's you know if a killer is looking in your direction. It blinks on and off, on if they're looking at your direction at a certain distance from you, and off if not. I keep an eye on it to know if they're about to find me, and that was valuable to me when I was first learning how to hide from killers lol

Kindred (eye with hook in it) helps you see where your other teammates are on map once someone is hooked, plus the killer if the killer is near the hooked survivor's body. Super good for knowing what everyone is up to and planning what to do next, like rescuing if no one else is able to, or if the killer is camping the victim's body.

As others have mentioned, Inner Strength is neato, it's a cleanse-totem, get-heal-free kinda deal to me. But because I'm awful at map awareness and didn't memorize where totems tend to spawn, I ended up skipping it. Depends your playstyle aha. As for Iron Will, it's free if you play Jake Park enough, so there's always that!

My wife likes to buy cosmetic items as surprise gifts for me on the games she knows I play a lot. DbD is the only game where those surprises get me killed.

I think that's super sweet! As someone who really likes playing MMO-type games, I like gifts in the form of in-game items lol. It's nice to see the survivors wear something nice for once over their grimy usual gear. I'm saving up iridescent shards to dress up my Feng Min!

But yeah, who knew that wearing the free gear would be the best camouflage LOL

  • @Gylfie said:

My build is almost always Spine Chill, Kindred, Dead Hard and a perk of choice (Resilience, Iron Will, Fixated, Small Game, ...). Guess I'm part of the 10%?

Same, except for Dead Hard! I don't think I'd use it well lol.

I always run Spine Chill, Kindred, and two of choice depending on who has what and what challenges I'm doing (Technician, Self-care, and challenge specific stuff like plunderer or small game). I the Bill and David perks, but I don't get much mileage with em.

I like my simple kit haha

  • I feel a way about neon Neas.

But secretly, I don't want y'all to know I feel iffy about anyone wearing cash-bought cosmetic sets from the store. Makes me feel like the game can go badly for me, but never for them LOL.

  • I play survivor main, and mostly SWF because I love the camaderie and teamwork.

I personally love games where the killer memes on us or gives us the game, then we go around bloodpoint farming. But my friend in my SWF hates those and doesn't wanna be given a game, reporting all afk killers or people who give him hatch lol (I feel bad for the killers who he reports rip). Yet ANOTHER friend in my SWF will always hate any killer that he thinks is unfair.

Two other notes come to mind when I think of DbD fun:

    1. Last night's MMR gave me LONGER matches. I mean like 20min games on average that had me on my toes. Without MMR I have 5-10min matches of the same length. I always wondered if long games are just as fun as short games for those around me. Cuz if it's not fun for the survivors or killer to be locked in a game for so long, I'd want it to go faster so we can get into another game and have more opportunities to make more memories lol.

    2. In the games where I get tunneled early, I don't have fun at all. I spent all of my minutes not contributing to the game other than a chase and maybe half a gen. But I'm not the best player, maybe the killer just found it too easy to get me. I try not to let those games bother me, because I end up moving on to play more games. But one night I died early by tunnel 3 games in a row, and it really soured my mood for the first time ever in the 4-5 months I've played. I think fun for me is just being able to be in a game long enough to have a meaningful contribution, whether it's a decent chase or a gen or doing a challenge/daily I had. Usually 9/10 games of mine are fun for me, but getting the 1/10 chance of a unfun game several times in a row makes me wanna step away for the night lol.

  • Common topic, where common answers seems to be "valid strat by BHVR" or "git gud, you shouldn't have to facecamp to win". And some other opinions I can't recall off the top of my head.

I always run Kindred, and at this point it's just one strat out of the many ways killers play. If they face camp, that gives me time to do other objectives with the rest of the team (SWF or not), and then we can go for the rescue later with more bodies to distract the killer.

It feels unfair, but we gotta play around it if a killer does it. Can't really control how a killer plays.

  • I see that iri is pink, which should be pretty rare on bloodweb, so I imagine they can't run it ALL the time. It's not like it's common, so I just let em have it. I accept potential defeat and move on to the next game, where it's not likely that the killer has a pink OP add-on lol.

The iri head huntresses I find in my rank don't really seem toxic. It might feel like it, cuz they killed me LOL, but that's what killers do. Some games are easy for em, some aren't. I don't think about it too much and try to get into the next game as soon as I'm dead lol.

  • Might try this sometime. I'm a poor survivor that only has free survivor perks, might as well make use of em lol.

My 10 cents on topic: I really like Self-care, it suits my playstyle of being scared as heck after a chase/rescue yet wanting to survive longer to do more altruistic things alongside my objectives. I feel like I'm more valuable once I'm healed up on my own, being able to take one more hit if I run into the killer without additional items, instead of scrambling around for a box's medkit, or doing anything across the map while injured. And it's not like I'm unaware of the map, I bring Kindred to gauge my priorities between saving myself or saving someone else if the others aren't. My runs in solo queue have been PLENTY altruistic where this isn't an issue.

I genuinely have much more fun running Self-care, rather than abiding by this forum's salty preferences.

  • TBH, as a survivor main in the yellow ranks, I've never seen any of my teammates do this. I'm guessing it happens more for the killers, and especially so in purple-red ranks.

I'm sorry that happened to you though. :( Just ignore em and keep hookin and bonkin

  • I like seeing posts like these, it reminds me that there's others who play this game that aren't sweaty adults that are mentally 15. There's people equally bothered like me LOL

Bless your soul and I hope you get better games in the fog brother

Dunno where you are but here in the UK I find that morning from 8-5 are basically instant matches for us

In America, whether I play with friends across NA in teams of various sizes or by myself, at night time it's about 5mins+ or more for survivor queue. (idk about killers, probably instant)

We play with a survivor friend in Asia whose queues go much faster, 2mins or so.

I'd be sad if I bled out for 4mins. I haven't played a game where I felt for sure like I could AFK, since I'm usually picked up and not slugged for the whole time. At least when I queue, I can tab out knowing I'm not in a game and my chances to find a game wouldn't change.

  • @Sand said:

I haven't seen yellow rank sense the month of release

I guess slugging is a valid strat heading up the rainbow!

Idk what clicky clicky means in this thread (I wanna guess flashlight?), but I'd be sad if I was in solo queue wanting to play multiple games, but had to spend most of it down on the ground instead of having a choice of whether to die slowly or die quickly on a hook (assuming the others are busy). I guess in perspective, I'm glad the killers in my rank play pretty straightforward lol

  • I imagine Trickster and Blight would get indoor maps. Like a music studio or a theater for the former, and some... Medical area for the latter. I prefer outdoor maps and a European city type of deal for the Twins sounds cool!

I'd also love an ancient temple for the Plague too, maybe with decor that's thematic to her fountains to cleanse the plagues off.

  • People make smurfs in DbD? Is it to preserve their main's red ranks or something?

    Rip :(

  • At what rank do y'all slug?

Cuz at yellow rank all my killers hook me unless someone was in eyesight when I got downed. I'm not angry at all, because I only ever bled out 1-2 times in the several months I've played LOL.

I really advocate for playing in yellow ranks, I don't think too hard in there

  • Comments aside, I actually went up against 2 inexperienced nurses. I panic all the same with any killer, but my hysterical screams turn into laughter and sighs of relief when she chases me without knowing her teleport, or lunges into an obstacle.

Those moments keep me going into the fog again and again. Not for the good nurses (where I usually die, done deal), but experiencing my own incompetence versus others (where I might live, I might die, but I hope the other killer is having fun and learning the game more and more) lol

  • If you're playing for your adept achievement (as opposed to some of the perks or whatever setup you're more comfortable with), I just wouldn't expect things to be easy.

I have a main kit that I like, and my win rate for it is definitely close to 50-60%. And even less so for other survivors that I have dailies for, or having to do a perk-based challenge that I'm not familiar with. It changes up how I usually play. (I'm not very gitgud)

I don't expect the killers or the rest of my team of randoms to know I have an objective that changes a bit of my gameplay. I expect them to play normally, as per their rank and environment. That said, I'm sorry you lost rank, and I hope you have better games!

  • Is this the hex version of blood warden? Idgi

  • I weep when I get saloon and I weep when Freddy hooks me, but I'd hope that a Freddy elsewhere or a killer on another map is having fun lol

Whenever I escape a killer, I don't think "haha he sucked, I had fun trashing him to the FLOOR", but I'm sorry if you feel like survivors are intentionally antagonizing you, rip

As for playing by the "rulebooks"...you do you, just finish your games and move on before someone says something salty in the chat, I know I do!

  • Reminds me of someone in one of Otz's videos saying it's an honor to die to Otzdarva LOL

Never been with someone who streamed, but I hope they don't mind my utterly trash plays LOL

Though sometimes I like to think I have the craziest panics when I play (as survivor) and would love to stream me screaming weirdly when I get chased, I think I'm entertaining lol

  • I'm sorry you're finding it taxing OP. Ever since I started lurking this forum, I've seen one or two threads like these and it makes me feel bad as a survivor main that killers get bm'd a lot.

I'd offer to play survivor with you, if you ever wanna play on the other side again! I honestly really like playing survivor and find it fun with friends. I play in the yellow ranks and it's not very sweaty, things are relatively normal and I don't expect much in any game. It's nice to have that mentality, plus normal camaderie with SWF.

In between DbD, I play FFXIV, and between survivor queues, I play Tetris 99 and Animal Crossing, I'd agree having other games is healthy. I'd prioritize what makes you feel good, games or not!

  • This never happened to me, if it did I wouldn't have thought much of it. I don't think you're toxic tho. If I did what you did, I wouldn't care about your reaction as much as everyone else in this thread is.... In solo queue, I just wanna play lol

You do you OP, show those kobes who's who 😂
