  • Yeah it says that crybaby survivors like to go next on hook. Can't wait for BHVR to finally punish them for that bullshit. Go next prevention can't come quick enough.

Let's not pretend you wouldn't be freaking out if SM had a 30% KR. Clearly, KR's mean something, but only until they contradict your point.

To the rest of your comment:

In a vacuum? No, she is not.

Taking into consideration her ease of use versus her power ratio, plus adding in her diabolical bloat? Well, now you start getting somewhere.

No one should take you or anyone seriously when this is the level of your argument.

Skull Merchant was an actual S-tier killer, because she had like a 70% kill rate. In actual public games, she was the most S-tier in the entire game.

Compare this to the fake tier lists that people like to make, based on the top 0.0001% of the players, that isn't relevant at all to public DBD games. Those tier lists are fake, because discussing how killers perform when 7,000+ hour players play 7,000+ hour players in custom games, isn't relevant at all to public DBD games, and like 99.9999% of the players are playing public games.

she had a 70% kill rate because crybaby survivors would stop playing as soon as they saw her. What is this absolute dishonest bullshit you are spewing?

    I don't think so.

Having a huge AoE scanning radius is not going to be a good design. It will either be too weak, which is what we have currently, or it will be too strong, which is what we used to have. Essentially, Legion-syndrome.

It seems to me that BHVR can make nobody happy. SM will not be happy until they get what they want and the community at-large is unlikely to accept that.

Hopefully, they give it one last shot and stop wasting resources on another failed Killer design. Sucks to say, but it is the truth.

It was never too strong. People just didn't bother to learn how to play against it. a common issue of survivor laziness.

  • There any plans to compensate people who bought SM before you gutted her entire kit for no reason?

  • @Valimure said:

You can't give the entire kitchen sink to a kit and not expect it to be a nightmare to play against.

    Speaking of which, new Freddy…

Oh please. There were and still are killers with more in their kit than she had and you people don't complain.

That's the problem though: SM wasn't nerfed for her strength, she was driven into the ground for the sole purpose of silencing complaints until the full rework (in the process reducing the complaints in the forum from burying feedback on new releases/other ongoing issues) comes out about a year later.

The fact that so many people just didn't want to deal with her (no matter their reasons) and instantly went next (giving her a staggering 70% killrate) made any kind of data completely invalid for balance purposes due to a lot of her kills being people giving up. There is no point in trying to find reason behind her overkill nerf: It's whole purpose was to destroy her pickrate (an "unofficial killswitch" in a way since they can't exactly completely remove her from the game until the rework) until her next version is ready, her strength wasn't the main factor driving this nerf.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not defending the nerf (It sets a frightening precedent: if players refuse to play against something for long enough, it'll get nerfed into uselessness eventually) but I'm fairly certain that until the rework is ready she will stay as she is to keep her mostly irrelevant and absent from feedback.

I cannot think of a worse idea that nerfing something into the ground a YEAR in advance of the actual changes you are planning. BHVR ######### up so bad here that I will never have faith in them again. I was expecting the rework when they announced the changes they were making then only to get slapped in the face.

  • The solution to the slugging meta isn't to make more perks basekit. The solution to the slugging meta is to unnerf hook perks like pop and pain res and dms, and bring back 60 second hook stages - which was an unnecessary nerf to killer considering they had already introduced anti-face camping.

  • @PetTheDoggo said:

Just create "give up" system to catch situation where it is valid to give up (DC) and then double the penalty for DC.

I would also make it if survivor gives up on hook, just replace them with a bot…

Honestly I think survivors just shouldn't be able to attempt to escape from the hook without a perk that guarantees it or unless the killer camps. Or maybe they should only be able to try 2 times but it doesn't increase their hook timer.

  • Just toxic survivors who still suffer from skull merchant derangment syndrome. People need to be banned from the game if they consistently throw games or DC against specific killers maps or perks.

  • I have literally not even been affected by any of the new stuff going against him.

  • I guarantee you they looked at all the complaining about how buggy she was, knew that would affect her sales, so they gigabuffed her to get people to buy her anyway and are planning on nerfing her into the ground Skull Merchant style as soon as they see enough profit.

  • Buff Skull Merchant + Apology for gutting her at the behest of the most toxic part of the playerbase.

Apology for gaslighting people about Trickster's flashing lights bug

    Un-Nerf Chucky

    Un-Nerf Wake Up

    Massive bug fixes

Chapter releases that don't break everything in the game.

Since this is the part everyone either forgets or conveniently leaves out:

The current state of SM was never intended to be permanent. They said several times, including before any recent changes at all, that they're reworking her. Which is the correct, long term solution.

Unfortunately that amount of effort isn't something they can just push forward in a week and will take Dev and creative team time.

and if they didn't have meaningful changes ready they shouldn't have changed her. Making a bunch of stupid changes that do nothing to make anything better right now on the basis that you will just fix it later is nonsense. It is bad game development.

  • @Mandy said:

When the PTB is live we will be able to fully assess the strength of the rework - until then, it's very difficult to tell if something is too strong or too weak. It's not about "survivors or killers complaining", we use our own judgements on what needs to change based on how things play out.

So uh what part of nerfing every single facet of Skull Merchant's kit with zero counterbalance and also leaving her in a bug-ridden state was "fully assessed"?

  • @Xernoton said:

So let me get this straight. They nerfed a killer to the ground because that killer was fundamentally flawed and they wanted to sweep these problems under the rug and now they are responsible for the harassment SMs get from other players?

That's next level mental gymnastics. The killer was hated before that, so people would already be unhappy about playing against her. Meaning, the harassment existed either way. If it got worse, then that's because people can now bully her ingame but that is a problem with the playerbase again.

Don't get me wrong, they definitely messed up here but you can't seriously blame the devs for the harassment you get from other players.

As @SoGo said, Skull Merchant will always remain a killer many of us dislike. It starts with her visuals (What is her walking animation?! How am I supposed to believe that David wouldn't just knock her out with a few punches?!) but it also affects her sound design (I hate her chase music and drone sounds with a passion.), her power (Stationary drones are not a good concept. She either becomes a territorial killer or she denies loops.) and even her lore (Seriously, devs. Take all the different things you have in her lore and only use what you absolutely need, then reinforce that. The manga stuff is irrelevent and her ambition is mentioned but never actually expressed in what she does as a killer.). It is too much for them to fix. Even if they were to rework her power to be decently fun for both sides, the other parts would still apply.

    "fundamentally flawed"

She is trapper with extra steps. What the hell are you even talking about. Can't take you seriously.

Yes I can blame the devs for harassment especially when they are effectively catering to the harassers.

you aren't knocking out anybody armed with a foot long blade with a few punches, dude. You aren't a superhero.

  • @Yoshirama said:

Her playerbase are the reason why she got changed

Yes how dare people play the ######### game

The Skull Merchant hate brigade literally does nothing but harass people for playing a character.

Just don't walk into the drones

Did you read my comment? She will throw dorns at every window or pallet you go to, you as a survivor can't stop her from doing that.

Add to that the huge speed difference where the survivor will receive a slowdown in movement speed and she will move faster.

Nearly every killer uses their power at windows and pallets. That is the ######### point of killer powers.

3% haste is barely anything and YOU THE SURVIVOR gave it to her by tripping her power. Do you think survivor perks like sprint burst, lithe, and balanced that give survivors MORE HASTE FOR EXISTING should be removed too? Or are you only applying your "logic" to killer?

  • @Boons123 said:

The reason is that a skull merchant gets a very high value from her power with almost no effort.

On the other hand, it requires a great deal of effort from the survivor to withstand it against her.

The result is a very boring killer to play against. You will get hit no matter what the survivor does. You stay in the loop, get hit. You leave the loop and go to another loop. She will throw a drone and the first scenario will be repeated.

Even disabling the drone is useless, she will retrieve the drone and throw another one in its place as if nothing ever happened.

Just don't walk into the drones.

    @BasementDweller said:

    1. no they don't
    2. Skull Merchant players (the anti gen/3 gen ones) are literally the reason all the passengers on the SM hate train exists
    1. Yes they do.
    2. "People played X character in a way I don't like therefore it is okay to harass people who play X character"

Wow you are exactly the kind of entitled serial harasser I am talking about.
  • Or revert their dumb nerfs from the last midchapter because her original rework was fine. Then they should remove hook suicides so that babies have to either stay in the game or give a bot like they are supposed to.

  • @upsideinsanity said:

First off… not "literally everybody" said scrap the changes. Yes, shes weak beyond all belief now but they are trying to get people past the point of hatred they have for her now by nerfing her to the point of weakest killer in the game and then completely reworking her down the line.

I see why they are doing it this way. They want people to be more accepting and possibly excited about the rework though I do not see the community taking it as a plus because A LOT of people still want to see her just meet the delete button. There are still people just throwing against her which is ridiculous but it is what it is.

They are trying to change the communities view of her which is not an easy task after her being the three gen game hostage queen for so long.

Everybody worth listening to said scrap the changes. BHVR went along with it anyway cause they care more about pleasing the most toxic and therefore most loud side of their playerbase.
