"I don't understand balance of killers in this game."
Don't worry. Neither do the devs. -
@Kazim said:
The reason why they removed that is not so much BHVR's fault, It is the fault of the players who disconnected at the first hook, the whole community is guilty with our actions bhvr has to do things like that and I don´t think singularity is an abusable killer as was skull merchant is more rare to see a singularity and I don´t care if play against one. but skullmerchant was horrible, maybe another problematic killer is legion, but singularity mmmmm no
I feel like treating killers like they are "problematic" does nothing but lead to people getting harrassed for playing them.
It is better to say that a killer is overtuned - which Singularity is but Skull Merchant wasn't.
The community did absolutely bring anti-go next on itself though. I agree. And even with the meat of it killswitched rn I have gotten so much less people throwing games at the start of matches since they added it. -

Yeah, he is not even close to being M1 killer. Legion is close to be one, Kaneki is far from it.
M1 killer can't counter hold W, safe pallets and body block you on many loops….
Kaneki is M1 killer like old Nurse was. Technically yes, but no.Wraith is an m1 killer who can counter hold w and body block you at many loops.
The only thing that makes an m1 killer an m1 killer is whether their power can down you and Kaneki's can't. He has to m1 you. Which means he is loopable. -
Once he gets that initial hit he is essentially an m1 killer with high mobility and you can loop him like one. Think of him like a Legion that you can't hold W against. Checkspot windows and pallets before running in front of them to prevent giving him an enraged vault.

To a point yeah. But ghoul getting a free hit with no realistic counterplay is not okay. Like legion at least has a hard time getting the down but ghoul is just busted.
They are both m1 killers after they use their power to get the injury. Literally all the videos I see supposedly showing that Ghoul is overpowered are videos of people getting hit and then running into a dead zone in a straight line. That won't work against any killer with any sort of range or mobility.
I guess there is the enraged vault thing but I haven't even had that happen in a match against a ghoul. -

With how many killers there are that's unlikely to matter except for the few killers with fundamentally broken and unfun powers like ghoul.
this community just calls everything they don't like broken and unfun.
-
I am not too upset with this change since it will make pretending to be a hallucination as Unknown a bit more streamlined but I was really hoping for them to at least give it an additional effect.

yea one people telling other to quit the game or telling them to uninstall/delete the game I had message sent tell me to do that after I had bad game, like to people want everyone to quit the game so it can die?
I want people who already hate the game to admit they hate it and quit instead of just continuing to ruin it for those of us who don't. I think that would be a lot better for them and the game in the long run.
-
I think she didn't need to be given 7 hatchets basekit.
-
Honestly I don't think any of them were nerfed so much as to be not good. Bonnie's Guitar Strings erases your stealth potential completely now but that isn't a bad price for essentially perfect info on every gen at any time you want. The badge doesn't give as much extra undetectable now but Springtrap already got plenty by default.

Telling players to leave has never been a good idea. It's the easy, avoidant way out of the problem. I'm not gonna lie and say asymmetrical horror is an easy genre to work on since it's almost resistant to health and fun, but you can tell when developers try versus when they only give the bare minimum.
When it comes to issues of bugs and balancing decisions I would say yes telling people to leave over displeasure about that is inappropriate but I see a lot of people whose complaints are that there are things in the game they don't like. Not even things that are even just overpowered or whatever. But just things that exist that they personally don't like. They see a killer they don't like or a map they don't like or one of their teammates is opening a chest or has no mither, etc. and they decide they don't want to play.
if a game is only fun for someone if everything goes perfectly for them every time then I don't think that game is healthy for them. -

He really was screaming for that. He's the polar opposite of FNAF 3. It's a similar thing with Child's Play imo (funny too because FNAF 3 always reminded me of Child's Play 3). I love the franchise but Chucky has never been fun to go against. He was especially broken at the start and only attracted campers and tunnelers. Even now, I know every trial is gonna suck with him.
At some point, I wonder if DBD does more harm than good if it's a player's first exposure to any given franchise.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3959385#Comment_3959385
The issue is that the game isn't stable enough to appropriately punish DCing. Between inconsistent matchmaking, balancing that encourages steamrolling, how isolated the experience has become, a lack of features to help break up static play, etc., it just makes sense to leave sometimes in order to preserve your time and sanity. If you take the punishment approach like BHVR did, you see what happens. Players are locked out for any reason under the sun and the queue starts to dry up. Likewise, we've seen what it's like with no penalty and at worst it's annoying. Find a way to ease the pressure DCing puts on a trial and it becomes a necessary evil or an inconvenience. You could still keep the penalty too, but I'd be really hesitant to let it go beyond ~10 minutes or make it decay in real-time like we do now.
FNAF 3 is the only game in the series(actually the only time in the entire expanded series) that William Afton(Springtrap) acts that way. Every other time you see him(in the later games, the books, and in the movie) he is a talkative and overdramatic character. To be honest the nailed him perfectly in dbd. He may even be the most lore accurate licensed killer in the game now.
I feel like if dbd hurts people's sanity then they maybe just shouldn't be playing it at all? Too many people made doom queueing a habit imo. They really don't like the game anymore but they keep queuing up looking to find a match that will make them feel like when they started playing. It doesn't happen so they go next or DC and queue again. That isn't healthy for them or for the game. -
I think there should be more perks that are like abilities like flashbang, mirrored illusion, etc. on both sides.
Imagine a killer perk that let the killer create an illusion of itself complete with terror radius and red stain that they could just leave on one side of a loop to trick a survivor -
The introduction of killers with 40 meter wide terror radiuses I think also does more to confuse you than actually give you more warning.

I agree. If DBD were a totally different game, I might think that discouraging DCs would be a good idea. But it's just appropriate to have the ability to.
People should have the ability to DC but that doesn't mean that disconnecting shouldn't be discouraged either. Sometimes life happens and you need to get off the computer or the console and that is all fine but if that is what happens then surely the DC penalty doesn't matter then right? Cause it isn't like you are going to be coming back to the game soon anyway?
All getting rid of the DC penalty would do is enable people to basically shop for their preferred matches. Ones where they are going against a preferred killer or on a preferred map, etc. and that just isn't a healthy thing for the game. -

On Killer side: Pain Resonance, Grim Embrace, Pop Goes the Weasel are some to name about how a game can snowball with these perks helping an early down.
On Survivor Side: A Gen being finished in a key location early, which can make perkless gen defending quite more difficult. but losing gens early can put a lot of pressure on the killer.
I don't think there is a pain res equivalent on survivor side, like a perk which is anti-snowball… Fast Track is the closest we have and it does nothing. Hyperfocus is the closest thing and without stake out it takes too long to activate.
I feel as Killer you always have a chance, as you can get downs in quick succession in an optimal situation, Survivor is the issue right now because you can only do gens so fast, and a gen which was pain res' thats 20 more seconds or so a gen needs to complete PER hook.An issue here though is that a killer running 4 slowdowns or playing a high tier killer can potentially snowball early like that whereas survivors can potentially get lots of gen progress quickly regardless of what perks the killer has or even who they are playing but obviously lower tier killers who aren't running meta suffer more.
You can pretty much always bounce back but it would be false to say that a killer not being able to secure a down within a reasonable amount of time in the early game can put them at a severe disadvantage that is almost unavoidable on certain maps and when playing as certain killers.
Of course I think the solution is to buff the ######### out of every killer C tier and below in one big "we're sorry" patch -
and there are people who say that old dbd was better.

I’m more concerned at how he looks when aiming. On a survivors screen he could be facing forward at 12 o’clock, but still hit you while you’re at 3 o’clock. His body nor his head turns. It’s very misleading.
I think this might be a thing with the game generally. I think I remember seeing something about how survivor and killer actions are desynced a lot of the time. So like sometimes survivors will crouch on their screen but appear to be standing still on the killer's POV.

He IS slowed, its just not as much as Huntress. He moves at like 96% survivor speed, but generally survivors are weaving left and right to dodge it... so he can still close in on you.

Trust me, I'm more than well aware of that lmao But I think it would solve a lot of issues. Punishments and incentives are unrealistic overall. The former is more comp-thinking and the latter is more casual-thinking and DBD exists somewhere in between. All we can do is minimize the damage without toppling the house of cards.
Still nobody is going to opt in. Survivor queues are always basically instant so there is no incentive for them to opt in to back fill and killer queues are always long which you would think would give them an incentive to do it but because most killer DC's tend to happen when the match is lost I can't see killer players wanting to wait what would still be longer queue times than survivor just to get into a lost match.
Go next prevention is the best solution here. -
He already is slowed

You queue up with your character and pop in. When a player DCs, their bot takes over the controls until a new player is matched in. That could present an issue with Killer powers being swapped solely from the perspective of how assets are loaded, but I don't think it'd be impossible to iron out.
This is BHVR we are talking about. Swapping killer assets would cause the game to implode.

Hello folks! Coming back to what we shared after the second Skull Merchant Design Preview, the community's feedback was shared with the design team, who took this into consideration when looking at what's next for Skull Merchant's rework. Not only did this feedback highlight aspects of the design that folks liked the concept of, it also highlighted aspects that didn't land well. That's okay! As I mentioned before, both sides of this are important parts of the design sauce!
We will share more about Skull Merchant when the time is right, but don't currently have any updates to share at the moment.
Have you guys considered undoing any of the nerfs handed out to her last year? You realize you made her basically unplayable right?

Worked fine in Killer Klowns. The only downside was that you couldn't opt in or out, so matchmaking would be a bit of a surprise.
Would they take over the bot the previous person left behind? Would they have to use their perks? Would they have their hook states? I can't imagine anyone would opt in if any of these are true.

Genuinely the best way is to make DCs more attractive than staying and hurting the trial while adding kickbacks that prevent the trial from ending because of that. Bots are good but we need Killer bots as well. Then backfilling for the queue, which players can opt in or out of.
Backfilling would never work in a game like this

Skull merchant didn't get nerfed because of the DCs. She got nerfed because behaviour realised her unhealthy playstyle and her extremely high killrate.
if behaviour starts nerfing killers due to DC rate then well.. i guess every killer is screwed, because i see dcs happen against pig and trapper too. Survivors DC against everyone and because of everything.
That being said i still haven't had anyone dc against me when i play ghoul… and i play her a lot.
Skull Merchant had a high kill rate because of people throwing games against her. If you think otherwise you just weren't paying attention or you just don't want to believe it. Either way it is still the truth. Her unhealthy playstyle had already been dealt with long before the nerfs she got.

Look, I'm not here to defend people who ragequit. That's not what this post is about.
I'm here to defend the one power players have to actually force BHVR to make necessary changes to their game.
For example, would Skull Merchant have been changed as many times as she has and currently be the worst killer in the game with a full re-work in progress if players didn't constantly ragequit against her? I don't think so. I think players sent an overwhelming resounding message that they didn't like playing against this killer.
Similarly, the only killer I'm seeing high levels of disconnects against is Ghoul. Yet, if not for removing death by hook suicide I think the rates would be much higher. So high that I think BHVR would actually feel compelled to rework this killer.
We've seen in the past with various patches (i think patch 6.1 when survivors received a significant reduction in the amount of distance they gained after being injured) extremely high rates of ragequiting. To the point where it happened almost every game. Because in many regards the game felt unplayable.
Ragequiting actually provides information for BHVR to self-correct their own mistakes. By taking steps to try and phase it out they may no longer be incentivized to do this. They may let things slide for far longer than they would have in the past.
Unfortunately, this may be where we're headed. BHVR will add content to the game, and make changes along the way, but players won't be able to respond in kind as they once had. Will BHVR feel compelled to self-correct by simple complaints on forums? Doubtful. It's only when they see players actively disengaging with their game will they feel compelled and yet they're phasing out ways players can do that in a meaningful way.
It's honestly not much different than when the government bans protesting.
You bring up Skull Merchant getting gutted like it was a ######### good thing? That is WHY you people can't be allowed to just kill yourselves on hooks anymore. Why should you be able to get killers destroyed like that? Should Nurse players be allowed to throw games until she gets buffed? Give me a break.
-
If there wasn't a DC penalty, people would DC just to troll everyone else in the match.
-
Yeah I can see why they didn't go with that. It sounds cool but like Forgotten Ruins is already bad enough about survivors just being able to duck into portals and be safe.

They need to just undo the stupid nerfs they gave her last year.

"Skull Merchant literally got gutted because of people inflating her kill rates by offing themselves on hook"
That's untrue. A dev confirmed on this very forum that only 2% of her kills occurred on first hook.
It wouldn't have to occur on first hook. If they got unhooked they would just run back into the killer or wait under the hook to get hooked again.
-
There are a couple changes they could make to make these situations happen less often.
They could allow the slugged survivor to abandon
I think they should also make it so that killers can get adept if the last survivor escapes though hatch. -
The changes were made necessary by people going next every time they saw anything they didn't like.
Skull Merchant literally got gutted because of people inflating her kill rates by offing themselves on hook. After that there was no way survivors could be allowed to keep doing that. -

if seatbelts dont provide 100% safety in car crashes, we shouldn't even bother. that's the kind of reasoning you are using.
just because nerfing lazy and optimal strategy while buffing skillful and less optimal (due to high risk) strategy wouldnt make lazy strategy stop being optimal, doesnt mean it wouldnt make lazy strategy less viable and skillful strategy more viable, resulting into more reasons to use the latter.
zoning is not a perfectly fine way to play this game because it's miserably boring. there is nothing interesting about holding m1 with unreactable attack and just waiting till survivor gets predictable with their juking. I will keep attaching the word "slop" to it because that's what it is.
You can't just call everything in the game unreactable
I have literally dodged so many axes since Springtrap was released lol -

Title. Him being 4.6 and moving at 4.4 with power is such nonsense. he is just a powercreep of huntress, she moves 4.4 without power, 3.08 (!) when winding up, and 3.74 when she is ready to shoot. Springtrap should have speed lower to that of huntress, considering he has one of the best teleports in the game for insane mobility either way
So you want him to have a worse m2 than Huntress with the same speed as huntress? Just admit you are bad at the game.

And this is meant to be somehow worse than zoneslop gameplay? Yes please, make orbitals less exciting and happen more often if that means this would be a more common thing you'd be encouraged to play for instead of boring m2 holding.
You will never be able to make them more optimal than just using them normally. Just like how you will never be able to make orbitals on huntress more optimal than using them normally. Those things will always be a gimmick no matter what. Fun to go for and cool when you get them but nothing else. Like going for shots through holes with Deathslinger or Trickster. Is it cool that they can do that? Yes. Should that be what their entire powers are about? No that would be boring and untenable.
and zoning is a perfectly fine way to play the game. I don't get this trend of attaching the word "slop" to the end of anything you don't like as though it means anything. -
No killer "needs" haste stacking. Haste stacking builds aren't as good as just bringing slowdown. It didn't get removed because the majority of players consider it fun to do.
-
I don't think he needs changes at all.
The problem with making comparisons to another killer about how a different killer should work is that the killers are meant to be unique. If you make Springtrap work more like Huntress you make Springtrap less Springtrap. Like should he also have 7 axes to throw and have a lullaby?
Like Huntress can afford to be slowed that much while readying the axe cause she has 6 more to throw and they are longer range. If anything I think she could use a few less hatchets but that's just me.
Yeah you shouldn't be going for orbitals all the time but tbh you aren't punished that much for missing so going for them occasionally is still fun even if it isn't optimal. I don't think orbitals need to be made core to his gameplay because then getting them becomes less special. They would go from being "this cool thing you can do if you are good at Springtrap" to "that thing Springtrap does." -
skill issue on your part.

I really feel like basekit perks are a lazy solution to things. What the game needs is some kind of ping system.

Unfortunately it is kind of a natural consequence of having a killer with a power that is countered with a built in item. Either the power needs to be so strong that it makes up for having easy counter play(which it initiially wasn't) or the counterplay needs to be harder to do so that it can't just make the killer powerless at every step(which it initially did)
and they ended up both making the power stronger to compensate for the easy counterplay and making the counterplay worse. -

An us vs them statement is something like "killer players always say x" or "survivor players or always act Y" because it lumps an entire group into an opinion or playstyle when in reality, players think and act all sorts of ways.
A dev saying they dislike SM doesn't pit survivors against her, it's just a vfx artist saying they don't like her.
In the context of how SM was butchered and how the community harassed SM players with slurs and death threats all the same - it comes across as Us vs Them to me. If not us vs them then it is 100% tone deaf and still doesn't belong in the game.
-
Witch hunts are bad but so is making us vs them comments and putting them in the loading screens.
-
You are free to like or not like whatever you want but keep it off the loading screens or give us the option to turn off dev comments.
-
Eh it is perfectly fine for aspects of a killer's kit to be completely optional. If the only way to get value out of Springtrap's power was to go for orbitals all the time then he wouldn't be fun to play and if he was just another killer where you have to go and interact with his pre-placed item every 30 seconds or die then he probably wouldn't be fun to play against.
