Neve Campbell. Absolute star of "Scream".
-
Ash certainly deserves in-game voice lines. I'd rather it be kept to those few survivors than give it to a slew of them.
-
They need to re-adjust overpowered extras first to make the game more balanced so everyone has a chance, rather than people slapping on one thing and becoming too overpowered. Then new stuff like chase options and variety can be built on that.
-
I feel that if all survivors had voicelines it would just not feel special, honestly. Rather limit voice lines to a select few.
-
I'd also be just as happy if the Iron Maiden cosmetics introduced a new mori for whichever killer they apply to. They're doing to with Naughty Bear (for The Trapper), so why not have an especially gruesome one for Eddie!
-
I could see Talbot as the main villain, but have it so this is before he becomes The Blight. Maybe he transforms into The Blight near the end for a final boss battle which may need some lore tweaking because of the Void, but I like the idea of him being the main bad.
I would say The Entity, but it's more an event or universe, too large to be dwindled down to a simpel antagonist.
Other than that, I could see Trapper, Wraith, Artist, Huntress or Deathslinger as sympathetic secondary antagonists, with my preference being the poster boy that is Trapper.
-
With Vittorio having explored the Entity, he has seen a lot of stuff. He would have a good back story for the plot and could be a key character in the Entity's unravelling, should that be the way the movie is directed towards.
Dwight could have a coming-of-age story within it, from the once frightened and uncertain town joke to a leader.
-
It's a way of using sportsmanship to improve player interraction. This would be good for anybody to tip anyone really, especially if it's out of their own BP.
A solid suggestion!
-
Honestly, I'm actually pleased their putting together builds to try which aren't expected and may give players an invitation to experiment more. Not sure whether the build is good or bad and I don't care either way; I'm just pleased to know this is an idea by the multimedia team to give people things to try and I would love it to see more of it.
-
Joke questions are also a good way, especially if being creative.
Things like:
What's the most obscure theme for a cosmetic collection you can think of?
Which killer would be a great addition to a fighting game?
Silly questions like those can also be engaging and bring out a humourous side.
I admire the fact you're promoting a better way of engaging people to come together on here. I wish you well with it.
-
This still hurts my soul.
-
I feel the AMA sessions are kinda useless in general, yet it's not really anyone's fault.
In AMAs, pretty much most questions will be concerning the future and - possibly due to a multitude of policies, legalities and such - BHVR cannot divulge information on this. They can only give a rough timescale at least.
It's understandable why they answer how they are. The issue is they probably know these are the questions they'll get, so if they know it's hardly likely to be answered then why do an AMA in the first place?
The best thing they can do is either a) just stick to answering the odd thread in the forums or b) make it clear in am AMA this is for questions regarding past things, such as asking for lore on existing characters.

Killer: Unrelenting
Missed hits now have zero cooldown.
Survivor: Sabotage
Once a hook is sabotaged, any hook within a 32m radius also becomes sabotaged.
-
I've seen it on the Steam charts below 20k in the past upon randomly checking, so no. The game isn't dying any time soon and, as of this time, there are 35,716 players on Steam alone, not forgetting Steam is a small portion of the overall whole.
Some jump to the idea of "dying games" way too soon. Things fluxuate and knee-jerk reactions to DBD dying has been happening for years.

I have proof video I was playing as Rebecca against legion when hooked both killer and survivor watching me dead later i spectate killer helped survivor finding hatch
So long as you lodged a report in game, did the full report and have video evidence, then you can report. Absolutely.
-
Yes, you can. You would need video footage to prove this though - they won't go on a single still or results screen.

I already said elsewhere I'm too slow (and old) to dodge the tail on reaction but the clip also shows a 0.7s ish from power use to hit. I'm sure someone quick enough could dodge it on reaction, but I'm also arguing they shouldn't be able to in the first place (because he can't buffer his power and is locked into using it).
I may be mis-reading here, so my apologies for not understanding clearly enough, but are you saying survivors should not be able to have a chance at dodging this, because of the wind-up?
If so, I'm guessing the wind-up is the window for survivors to dodge. What I have seen is it's possible to "drag" the tail, like Nemesis does with his whip. Other killers such as Huntress, Deathslinger and Executioner dom't have that luxury, but Nemesis has the pass because he has to hit 3 times with the tail, so I get that. If a tail shot should be speedy after winding-up, perhaps remove the drag option of the tail, so it shoots straight without drag.
Otherwise, I'm happy as Xenomorph is. It is born with the sole purpose of killing and providing the queen with bodies for more Xenomorphs, so makes sense for it to be tough to face.
-
It's still a good idea to test it out to see how effective camping would be.
My belief is: if a survivor is being camped then there is no reason to escape the hook until the last second. Then the killer chases, takes some time to down them and rehooks, before waiting nearly another minute to jump off again. It feels like the killer will absolutely be the loser in this scenario, as well as be probably bored out of their mind.
Again, wait until this comes out in its test build and try it out. That's the best way to go about this. I reckon people will be testing when best to jump off too, so it quickly will be seen when the optimum time would be, if it's not clear already.
-
I feel OP can't win this argument. Not because they are wrong, but moreover whatever they show there will always be something some people will point out that could have been done better.
A better video would be to show a dodge from a tail whip without Dead Hard, because many will prefer to know a power can be outplayed without having to arm themselves with a perk.
However, there are a lot of numbers being hurled about (which is all well and good), but numbers are calculations, not practicality with all the factors to take into account in actual gameplay. What I do see is the Xenomorph raise the tail and the survivor watching this and timing their Dead Hard well. 4 survivors escaped that trial too and I would hazard a guess the tail whip was not used just one time.
I'd also like to add some thing else for now: The Xenomorph is quick, but there is a clear indicator of when it will strike. Compare that to Huntress. Of course, you hear her wind up, but she holds it amd when she releases it the hatchet from a close distance, as soon as she does her "Huh!" sound you are hit. There is far less warning she is going to throw. Executioner and Deathslinger can also hold their powers and fire any time.
So, I would agree with OP here, but it is tough. Harder to defend because of the plethora of shoulda/coulda counter-arguments to footage, but that's with the benefit of hindsight. OP had no hindsight when using Dead Hard and that tail swipe was a solid hit. Still, would like to see footage of a non-perk dodge used as proof in debates such as this.
-
I say ggwp but always include a reason why, whether it's a good chase or whatever. Most often, it's when I lose. I don't do it every trial, only if note-worthy.
However, it's presumptive to guess everyone feels as you do. There are so many people who play this game, each one an individual. If you don't like it, you don't have to reply to it. Block and move on if needbe, but there's nothing wrong with a well-meaning gesture.
-
Remove the Endurance effect and make it so that it won't stack with Hope.
Other than that, it's fine.

People can still be showing off the Prestige in the results screen. Maybe it doesn't look as good when being beaten by a non-Prestiged opponent, but it is still shown off.
Taking the Prestige off when in lobbies simply prevents people from skipping lobbies because they have an uninformed opinion of their fellow (or rival) survivors. It's a good thing it's been removed.
-
Turrets set up to disable that tail attack.
Paying attention to the warning beeps the turrets give off to gauge how far it is. It is like auto-whispers for survivor.
Keep out of sight or run to where there are high walls. Sometimes this isn't possible, so I treat it like dodging a Deathslinger. Granted, around short walls I'm relying more on the hitbox on the walls, me ducking and them messing up.
The Xenomorph may need a bit of tweaking with the tail whip and I've lost more than I've won against the Xenomorph, but just keep practicing. It's the best that can be done and in a few weeks maybe it will become a bit like Onryō again, where it first seemed insurmountable but now people are more aware of what to do.

Should I just have guessed that the alien wouldn't be using M2 instead and dropped the pallet? Seems like an odds that heavily in her favor.
I would agree the odds were in its favour there. There's very little that could have been done, beyond relying on luck that the movement may have distracted it, but it was pretty patient.
However, in that scenario there would have been a few other killers who would have had an equally easy time of it there: Huntress and Deathslinger the 2 which immediately come to mind. So I do understand your argument as a whole, but this example isn't illustrative of this scenario only benefitting a Xenomorph.
-
If you had died 20 games in a row, that Wesker match you had last would probably be fine with MMR, based on how it's based on wins vs losses (which is an issue in itself), but it would make sense after so many losses that you'll eventually face an equally unsuccessful killer.
It does sound like your 20 match claim is inflated, since you "gave up" so easily after match 10. Maybe you could have survived some of those other ones, but it would be nice to clarify what you mean by "gave up", because if that meant you just got killed quickly on purpose then that's quite weak, but if you mean you just became more laid back and tried, but didn't really have your heart in it then, well, others play relaxed too so that would be fine.
The best thing in those periods (I've experienced loss streaks too), focus on your game and make your own aims each trial. Try an complete tomes or make your own up. However, I found it best to just stop playing if a streak starts to frustrate me. Play another game and come back fresh.

For your licensed:
10. Yes and I'd quite like a cave map where - for once - everyone can be accused of tunnelling!
9. Yes. I had to look this up though and was greeted by a lot of Elvis pictures (for some odd reason!), but finally saw the Manic Cop schtick, so sure!
8. Yes and I hope they have a suitably gory mori.
7. Yes, absolutely! Hopefully, the Predator will be coming soon.
6. Yes, but he's not high on the list. Moreso just a nice addition.
5. No. I can't see how it would work with any effectiveness other than pure, unadulterated meme-factor.
4. No and I don't think BHVR should support any work by Victor Salva.
3. Yes, It has a lot of potential.
2. Yes. Again, not high on my list but the idea of using bees as a power would be interesting.
1. Yes, naturally!
As for the original ideas, yes to all of them, but especially for a spider! The Xenomorph has proven they can make a crawling killer, so a spider is hopefully planned for some time in the future in whichever mutated form they want.
For me, I'll think of some other ones just for fun, so for Licenced (in no particular order):
11. Daniella - Haunting Ground
10. Stefano Valentini (with Obscura) - The Evil Within 2.
9. Walter Sullivan - Silent Hill 4: The Room.
8. Nikola Orsinov - The Magnus Archives
7. Eugene Toomes - The X-Files
6. Riptor - Killer Instinct
5. The Thistle Man - Alice Isn't Dead
4. Scarecrow - Batman
3. Big Daddy - Bioshock
2. The Driller Killer - Slumber Party Massacre 2
1. Pious Augustus - Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
As for some Originals:
5. A creature looking like a glitchy monstrosity which glitches like a video game character.
4. A soldier, perhaps lost souls from the WWI/WW2 era.
3. A gargoyle, especially if it can fly small distances.
2. A creature which recreates the fear of Trypophobia
1. A huntsman, able to send their "dog" out to hunt survivors.
-
A Halberd. I've always liked those long-reaching weapons, even when I was a kid.

The playerbase is the biggest reason for me as to why this game is not considered fun. Whilst BHVR have made some questionable decisions, nothing they have done ever has been as damaging as a decent slab of the playerbase. The game has done brilliantly, considering who has been playing it and the rise in thirsting for salt (which is a bizarre thing in itself!).
It has many good peeps and even some content creators who try to avoid all the drama, but if people could just simply enjoy the game and not be so stupidly childish then it could be absolutely amazing.
-
Didn't know it was not for all currently!
I like the change. Prestige really doesn't accurately show the skill of the player. P100s I've faced have often been worse than people at a far lower Prestige. It's not accurately indicative of somebody's skill. It's fun to see in the endgame screen, but that's where it should stay.
All that happens with emblems being visible on the lobby screen is allow people to act snobbish, form false impressions and come up with excuses.
-
-
-
The game hasn't gone downhill. It's when the playerbase decided to move to a more competitive, optimal and meta-absorbed mindset and moved away from just enjoying the game, exploring and having fun.
The strive for having to be known as an amazing player to a point where, if they go through a rough patch, it is everything else which is the problem and not them. The need to follow their favourite YouTuber and only use what they use. The game needs the fun back and, for the most part, the tools are there. Some changes could be made, but I'd put the main reason down to the shift in mentality towards it.
-
Whilst I do feel the majority of killers are not as bad as some people complain about and, albeit it is old information, DBD had released a top 5% MMR list of killer stats which shows killers of that level are all viable with decent success rates, some killers do need a rework or pass, at least to deal with a severe weakness.
A couple of videos I've seen recently proposed changes to 2 of the weaker killers: Shape and Nightmare. Dustaroo was the guy, which I'll share below:
https://youtu.be/nJCnGC5rKPY https://youtu.be/HZSDnVvNM6oNot saying these are ideal, but I like how he's at least looking at what may make them both more fun to face, matches the lore and gives them more viability.
Certainly at competition level a Trapper will more likely do poorly compared to a Blight, but the vast, vast, vast majority of players are not competition level. I've seen weak killers defeat SWFs and in many cases killers just need people tp spend more time on them and less time listening to what influencers say. People may certainly find more enjoyment if they play for themselves.

I mean sure I agree it would have been nice if BHVR had the foresight to see this coming along with MfT + Hope but honestly end game is a joke as is anyway so that's less of a problem IMO.
That being the fact is we're here now and I don't think builds that loop for survivors without them actually learning how to loop themselves is healthy for the game and is something to be addressed. Playing m1 killers is miserable at the moment because it feels like you can never catch up even when survivors fall for mind games.
I am with you insofar as perks shouldn't supercede the ability of the player. Players should survive (or kill) far more based on their own skill than be successful solely because of a perk. Perks should be in an assistant capacity as opposed to being the sole reason for victory.
I've had more of an issue with MFT stacking with Hope, honestly. During trials, when the results board comes up, I've not sufficiently noted that MFT made a difference unless it is paired with Hope. Maybe it's down to subjective standpoints, but when you take away the stack and endurance, the 3% only gives so much from my experience.

If we went by this logic CoB + Overcharge never should have gotten touched when it was absolutely correct to do so.
Perks do not exist in a vacuum.
They were nerfed because, even by themselves, they were too strong. So the logic still stands as they would have been touched anyway.
I agree perks don't exist in a vacuum, but it's about making sure newer perks don't allow this to happen to such an unworkable degree. It's about planning newer perks.
-
I wouldn't nerf a perk because of another which exists. I also don't feel that's the main concern with MFT.
Resilience works absolutely fine as a perk. MFT (if it did not stack with other speed perks like Hope, nor have an additional effect that essentially is a perk in of itself in enduring) would also be fine.
-
It's understandable why some would. Afterall, it is a horror survival multiplayer game, so it's not wrong to expect comparisons. DBD would be a good source for any new game of this genre to take ideas from.
I do agree there isn't any need for turning this into some playground "My dad can beat up your dad" feud though. An example from another genre may be like comparing "Final Fantasy" to "Persona"; both games are rpgs so the mechanics may be compared. However, they are both very different games and can be enjoyed alongside the other.
It feels it's more about internet drama than actual game critique currently. People using the game to create some sort of Kardashian boretopia. Just enjoy the games for what they are.
-
I always keep the game fresh. Every trial has a randomized build. I set my own goals in each trial. I see and develop stories in my head, both within the trial and a broader scope of the character levelling up. If a tome reveals something about the character, I might even change my playstyle to match.
Basically, I keep creative.
-
They could develop some more elemental or psychological status effects. As rough examples off the top of my head:
Scorched: Interractions on generators and healing result in trickier, faster skill-checks for a period of time (to represent the pain of touching something with burnt hands)
Frozen: Players leave behind steam from their breathe which stays for longer and more obvious than scratch marks. Players have a small penalty to the speed of all interractions. Players have to heat up by fire to rid the status.
Vertigo: Players pathing can be affected, so running in a straight line can drift left and right (I'd prefer a FOV alteration, but understand this can make people feel sick, so tdecided on this version).
Terror: Players will scream randomly and controls can "flip", so left becomes right or crouch becomes run briefly to mimic the panic. Terror is only brief though.
Sprained: Player vault speeds are reduced. Turning is a little less sensitive. Can affect both sides.
Weakened: Killers take longer to break pallets or walls for a brief period of time.
Illusion: Affects both sides. Aura-reading perks give false information in some way.
-
My feelings are influencers and the playerbase are more to blame than BHVR for its identity issue. BHVR do hold some responsibility for moving it into a competitive area. Unfortunately, at a championship level it's inheritantly boring and clinical. The fun is sucked right out.
However, a majority of influencers focus on meta builds and how to win and show up salty players (which ironically can make people want to be salty to get their 15 minutes of fame). Players then start using them with some perception they need this to win which - unless you play at the top - you do not.
The player-base also follows this, trying to do the tricks of those streamers and such. They try the same builds to win and, if they don't, surely it's a balance issue because the build should have worked! Some players want to play chill, but defining what is "chill" isn't clear. The playerbase gets caught up in it all. However, that's not totally the influencers' fault because people should think more for themselves. People aren't sheep.
-
Devil's Advocate here: what if killers lower down the tiers are just harder difficulty killers and therefore it's not so much a change to make them more viable, but instead to reward more BP for lower killers?
It's been some time since we have had some kill rates, so the info I'm using is dated. However, according to what BHVR wanted for average and top 5% killers, the kill rates appeared in line with what they wanted (50-60+ kill rate). This would mean buffs would potentially upset that.
Of course, this is old information and especially with some more recent perks there may be a vast swing for all we know. However, if we got kill rates and again they were in line with 50-60% kill rates, it may argue against any buffs. If the information changes to reflect a more survivor-sided escape rate, then changes certainly could be considered.
Ultimately, I'm of the opinion that if the kill rates are in the right place then there is no need to change it. If there is a significant change, then there may be. I'd be far more in favour of more rewards for lower-performing killers than buffs.
If only Nurse wasn't such a bloody pain in the ass when it came to stats then this would be far easier!
-
If I recall correctly, BHVR said they were considering new items which, if my memory serves me correct, was announced in or around the anniversary - perhaps on an AMA?
They certainly would benefit from giving more usage to the keys and maps, as there are some clever ideas that could be developed. The first-aid kits, toolbox, and flashlights are in a healthier state compared to those.

Why do we have to know each other's perks at all times? Why does everything have to have an outplay or counter?
Can't we just get hit by Coup De Grace and say "OMG they had that niche perk and they got me!" instead of "Ugh I didn't know he had that perk and my looping is invalid now this is so unfair and unfun!"
I feel like it's just a thought he had at that moment that isn't worth having a discussion about LOL.
Agreed. I feel he was just having a moan and groan at that point with no real thought behind it, just like anybody else may feel when things aren't going this way.
-
I was at the receiving end of it. I was being chased and lining up for a vault into a jungle gym when the gen popped and I ran straight into that block, allowing the killer to take me down to injured.
It can be tricky enough even without the perfect timing that hit (for the killer, not me!), but blocking off vaults where commonly-used perks like "Windows of Opportunity" or "Lithe" relies on, it has potential.
-
I play both sides 50/50.

Firstly, absolutely take a break. Burnout will make even booting up the game feel a slog, so try something different for a bit. Cote was absolutely right about his "Civilization" comment; it was just a large number of idiots didn't have the understanding to interpret it well enough.
When you choose to start playing again, avoid the traps of "what optimum builds to use", "which killer is S-tier", "what is the meta" conversations and do not let them influence you into having a fun game. You can win the vast majority of your games with any perks, if you focus more on your skill as a player. The meta only really makes a difference at pro levels, which is why they're often boring and predictable to watch.
Thirdly, make your own win conditions. Winning doesn't have to be about escaping or getting the 4k. Go to the DBD randomizer page and bring up some odd challenges. Make some up! Just enjoy the game how you wish to play it.
Finally, challenge yourself. There's no challenge in running the same build over and over because an influencer said it's the best. From experience, they are talking from a position that doesn't have a relevance from where most casual players are, as they are talking about being optimal. You don't have to - or need to - be their definition of optimal. You need to be enjoying the game. People play far better when they enjoy something, rather than repeat the same dredgery time and time again. You'll be surprised how useful a lot of perks actually are.

My girlfriend's super into Magnus Archives, I got a couple seasons in before taking a break- it'd be a tough license but I do think they could find a way to make it work. If nothing else, BHVR are really good at translating non-obvious characters into DBD at this point.
Also, if Jonathan Sims got to do a bit of narration for the Tomes then that would be fantastic! Your girlfriend has good taste in podcasts.

Similarly, I had a moment when seeing "The Snail", since there's a character called that in a novel I like called Worm.
Even more niche and unlikely to make it into DBD (and ol' Gregor wouldn't be the best choice of killer anyway), but man, the dream is still a sweet one...
I would love for them tp chuck in a licence that's not one of the big ones, just to show not being well-known does not mean it's not worthwhile. "The Magnus Archives" has killer and survivor value for its own universe of DBD!
Speaking of "Worm", I've not heard of it but may have an eye out to see. "The Magnus Archives" has an episode called "The Worms" which is a very grim and sobering episode to imagine.
-
Blindness can be useful mainly with SoloQ. Survivors on comms can negate the effect to a degree; especially the crack teams who break maps down into sections.
There are moments where it could cause problems, regardless of the survivors being swf or not (like trying to find the NOED totem without aura assistance).
Overall, it's okay. However, compared to other status effects such as "exposed", "mangled" or "oblivious", it's one of the weaker status effects. However, just like Trapper, "weaker" does not necessarily mean weak to face. Just not as desirable.
