For me as killer its not much of a difference. I am very cautious when picking up survivors and almost never get stunned or anything like this. So for me its not big.

But you are right, if you have problems while picking up survivors, the cage can make a big impact in your game flow.

But still, the cage is planted far away from you, so if you dont instantly run over to it to protect it, its much easier to get someone out of there.

It's about time efficiency. You win plenty of time by caging survivor as you can immediately move to the next target. The proposed suggestion would allow pyramid head apply tormented status on multiple survivors as well with good cast or during unhook ( this was the main reason devs listed as to be op, even though it could be fixed by not applying the tormented debuff at all when within X range of hook ) and generally allow this particular killer to be more effective. Sadly as we know, when somethin makes any killer more effective it gets thrown out of window for very known reason.

i dont think so, torment is not that strong of an effect. its just a different kind of hook and its even far over the map. There is really not that big of a difference between hooking a survivor or putting him in a cage i believe.

And i think leaving him as he is would just make him another m1 killer, with a useless ability. I would say though that it would be a better idea to just buff his trails. Its honestly laughable that he cant even put them around hooks even tho trapper, hag, skull merchant and twins (viktor) can put there stuff next to hooks without problem. And the trails are even visible from all over the map, so you either must be very bad or very desprat to walk over them.

The difference is much bigger than you think. Tormented survivor can be caged instantly and this can't be denied by survivors as they can't blind killer like during pick-up animation, can't sabotage a hook while killer is carrying survivor and allows killer completely negate whatever defensive perks survivor had that would make hooking harder.

Those two play styles are not comparable because doing the main objective is different than specifically targeting one person out of the game

Tunneling is an unsportsmanlike playstyle that disables a player to actually play the game.

Why tunneling is an unsportsmanlike playstyle when it directly contributes to killer's objective which is to kill all survivors? I don't see anyone saying that genrush is unsportsmanlike playstyle even though it is the main objective of survivors. So it's ok for survivors to try to win asap but not ok for a killer?

  • Don't bother.

Probably someone from survivors nagged devs about how ''oppressive'' that would be so it got reverted. It's the standard way these kind of suggestions are treated. Doesn't matter that it's already hard to make decent survivors walk over the trail but who cares.

  • @Mane said:

Tunneling is an optional play style that killers have, as of late killers are abusing that option.

If survivors didn't do gens then they're just running around waiting to get hooked, what would be the point of playing Survivor?

Considering gens take 90 seconds each, not being able to complete them from 0% to 100% would be a ridiculous mechanic, Killers have plenty of gen regression perks they could use to give them more time.

Genrushing is also an optional play style for survivors, as of late survivors are abusing that option massively.

They can entertain killers by triggering multiple chases, getting downed, rescue each other and so on. Instead, they just get glued to nearest generator and hope someone else does the distraction or killer doesn't find them and does waste more time.

Considering every chase can be extended to 1 minute or more, survivors can heal each other for endless amount of time and bleedout timer is very generous, there's no reason for survivors to try to end the match as quickly as possible.

Does it all sound right for you? Because that's how your statement does sound to me at least about how killers could play.

  • @mikewelk said:

To be honest I wouldn't want that. I don't want people to change their perks just to match the others because I have seen plenty healing builds not even be utilized by survivors, plenty of looping builds just for the survivors to get knocked down within thirty seconds, plenty of gen rushing builds just for them to run around doing absolutely nothing, etc. If they have Unbreakable you can clearly tell by how fast their progress is when slugged and deliverance is just something you tell people before the game starts in the chat.

My suggestion was meant to work with existing Survivor HUD, which in turn triggers when everyone is loaded into the match. This means survivors in lobby would still not know what each of them has equipped but would know that inside the match itself.

You act like every random Survivor works like a team that's not the case, when I played Survivor most of my randoms did nothing to "carry me" or my mistakes

Not because they were bad at the game but because killers add pressure to do the objective faster by tunneling a Survivor out of the game right off the bat.

Have you ever considered the fact that maybe your team mates were actually weak and couldn't loop killer long enough? Or maybe they didn't do the objectives efficiently?

You should not put a blame on killer if your team mates perform poor for whatever reason.

You are clearly not understanding, yes tunnelling is bad but it is not needed at the start of the game (where it is most problematic), moreso towards the mid/end of the game for it to stay as a viable tactic without gutting it altogether because that is when killers feel pressured to tunnel like they said.

It's you who don't understand that tunneling is a tactic that is free to use. Saying that killers should not tunnel from start but may tunnel at 2 gens or less is pretty much dictating your will upon others. Go tell survivors not to genrush unless they were hooked twice first and see what response you do receive. Tunneling just like genrushing are tactics that used by both sides whenever they feel like.

  • @MoNosEmpire said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443950#Comment_3443950

I suggested in a suggestion post on here that Hex: Ruin should be basekit for killers to help slowdown the game slightly and also make it a different colour to other totems. It would be easier to find and the game would become more interesting in general.

Unfortunately this would get down voted fast by survivor horde as by their logic killers should win only by their own pure skill and are not allowed to have any form of help if they struggle. However, should survivors be forced to do some extra actions by any means because of killer perks, be sure those perks get massively toned down to the point of being either useless or 1 out of 10 case useful.

  • @MoNosEmpire said:

    That does sound cool!

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443662#Comment_3443662

Stop overreacting. No one said tunnelling is a bad thing, but when it's all you see and the game still has 5 gens and a killer is tunnelling, yes it is a BIG problem.

Survivors have 2 anti-tunnelling perks (OTR + FTP) and they're getting slaughtered. This is easily proven by everyone being tunnelled and the complaints about it on the forum, before some perks were nerfed it was never this big of an issue because survivors had protection against it.

You're complaining about killers saying enough is enough about a perk which makes 0 difference to tunnelling but survivors have had ENOUGH of tunnelling ALREADY.

    It's time for a change!

You yourself said that tunneling is bad. There is no difference between being tunneled at 5 gens or during exit gate powerup phase. If killer resorts to this tactic it's their choice. Just because you don't like being tunneled doesn't mean killers should be unable to tunnel at all. There are plenty of things killers don't like survivors do but guess what, they are told to deal with it. Same should be said about survivor players - got tunneled at 5 gens? Deal with it or just move to the next game.

  • @Mane said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443672#Comment_3443672

How do Killers want survivors to play? Would you prefer if they spawned on hook? Would you prefer that Killers never had any challenge at all and they always got an ez 4K?

What would be the point of people playing Survivor if they knew they didn't have a chance of surviving?

Do killers complain that survivors are doing their objectives in general? No. Killers complain that they keep getting their tools taken away from them so it becomes more difficult to compete against survivors.

Nobody wants easy game. People want a fair game where mistakes aren't that punishing and there's always comeback potential for both sides. The problem here is killer is alone and needs to use all options available where survivors are 4 and they all share the same objective and can play lax at times. If one survivor does mess up somewhere, 3 others can carry the game but if killer does mess up, no help is coming. Killers do tunnel because it's a form of pressure that often works and time-wise is the most effective way to keep up with gen progression rate that currently exists ( 1 or 2 gens per 1 hook ).

  • @DaddyMyers_Mori said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443503#Comment_3443503

    end game builds -> nerfed

    3-gen -> nerfed

    camping -> nerfed

    slowdown perks -> nerfed

Everything except tunneling was nerfed, perks that did promote different strategies were nerfed. Probably best time was during BBQ, pop, ruin. All of those were nerfed.

Only thing that got buffed back (was nerfed to oblivion becaue of CoH) is hit&run, but there is only few killers that actually can use it properly.

Hit and run is not back because base time of healing each other is still low. Even if you distribute hits and everyone is constantly wounded that doesn't provide sufficient pressure because 2 survivors can recover each other back to full health at the same rate as before.

The biggest question here is how survivors want killers to play? For 12 hooks only? Because every other kind of play should not be possible, at least that's what the consensus is about among many survivor players.

  • Why not just write entire rule set for killers as to how they should play?

Tunneling exists because of survivor meta perks that make every chase so long and every failed down cost a gen or two. Instead of addressing the real problem you want to make things even worse.

How many basekits do survivors need to have until enough is enough?

  • It's 1 kill average for non-sweaty killers who are below S tier. Don't be surprised about it. That's what killer experience is about right now.

Currently the entire sense of balance is around you getting either complete potatoes or hardcore diehards. Rarely a mix of both. So one game you will win unless you refuse to and another one you will lose regardless of what you do. You can try to resist this but unless you play only same S tier killer with S tier addons on best maps for that killer - 50% hellhole shall be your home.

This is the trend and goal of devs which they have successfully achieved for majority of players.

  • If stalemate is not ok because it wastes survivor's time, then how come it's ok for survivors to play permanent hide-and-seek game on some maps? How this problem will be addressed?

  • How often do you really see people running infected for the long time by any kind of virus? If anything, the number of antidote chests should be reduced ( antidotes could have few more charges in exchange ) so getting rid of infection isn't as easy as it currently is.

  • This perk was badly designed in the first place. The fact that now almost no one picks it proves that it's only redeeming quality was a free self-heal which in turn was too good.

It needs to be reworked into something really meaningful, yet it should not grant a free self-heal like it did before.

  • So it's ok to ignore that often 3 gen is caused by survivors themselves. It's one thing when 3 gens are spawned near each other with direct line of sight, which should be addressed ( do note, it's not a killer's fault ) but when they are only relatively close to each other compared to the rest of gens then is it fair to punish a killer for trying to play around such triangle?

These potentially imposing changes that are announced do contradict with the idea that killer players are allowed the way they can and want. How far are we from the point where killers will have to play by some kind of rule book which will severely limit their options for the sake of positive survivor experience?

  • Some killers were designed around 3 genning playstyle. For some melee killers 3 gen can be a saving grace. This is soon to be changed.

While it's understandable that 3 genning can be annoying, it's removal will take another game plan from many killers. I have a feeling nothing shall be introduced in exchange to this 3 gen nerf ( survivors won't need to worry about which gen they should do anymore ) which will in turn only lead to faster overall gen progression as survivors will simply latch themselves to the first gen they see without any potential risk down the road.

To sum it up - another nerf to killers, albeit indirect. As for how devs think killers should play - with a clown hat and nose on. That's how.

This person here held me in the game because I was the last surviving survivor. I looped him for about 5 minutes before he knocked me down. He left me on the ground until the last second and then picked me up and held me in his arms. Why does this company allow this to happen in 2023? There are several games of this style that have found incredibly good solutions to this issue, and this game has been experiencing basic problems like this for years! And the worst part is that nothing happens to these people ruining the game! DBD is almost dying and the Devs haven't realized it yet.

    Depressing!

You always have an option to bleed out eventually so you can still have the game ended. As last survivor you can also force end game collapse and eventually die from it. Sure it will take more time and not much of the fun but as many said, take it like a champ and move on to the next game.

  • @CorvusCorax86 said:

I don't think so. Reviews on Steam were negative for a long time (it is now "mixed"), plus, based on statistical data the number of players have significantly dropped.

The review issue is pretty much a review bomb by survivors who did the same on other platforms as well as on twitter or other media.

  • If you want to play casually - don't play for win. It's 1 kill average on killers who are not top tier with top addons. Your chases will cost you gens and gen regression is dead entirely with no alternative presented so you have only one option - tunnel someone one out asap. You do that - maybe then you can win. You don't and switch targets - enjoy tbags at the exit gate.

  • Be glad you got an obvious cheater. At least you know there was one in your game.

Now imagine how many of those just tweak their ms, turn wall hack on and slightly boost their action speed. Those still continue playing undetected and you will never know something was off in the first place.

You can ''report'' those but be sure it will take a while before any real action will take place, if any. Chances are you will meet the same person in your match sooner than they get properly punished for illegal software use.

Because it shows that the game isn't balancced around solos. Also I assure you the numbers in that video were not manipulated by survivors rage quitting bc it was literally some of the best survivors in a custom game lmfao

It is balanced exactly around solos, this video shows it's not balanced around SWF or more organized team with voice. Information perks for survivors would not exist for solo play if it was balanced around SWF because they would be simply redundant when survivors would already have means of sharing information with each other. Hud is an attempt to bridge SoloQ and SWF, but it's not doing much because SWF is about voice communication which many SoloQs refuse for plenty of reasons. Hence why SoloQ people may pick perks for information but stacked SWF will never do that.

You tunnel and proxy. You force Survivors into deadzones. You create more deadzones. You punish any and all mistakes to the nth degree.

Once again, I do not think you understand how the game is played. The game is not difficult, even as a low-tier Killer. You want to know why?

Most players suck. You won't get competent Survivors in even 1/4 matches. Hence why the game is slightly Killer-sided at the average level, evidenced by the 60% Kill Rate.

Well, you are not supposed to tunnel or proxy camp, at least that is what I see on this forum where killers should be punished for camping and tunneling should be made close to impossible.

I wonder how you do create deadzones or force mistakes without tunneling or camping in that case?

  • Why should I care about their games? Or do you mean their average game represents the average the average game of most people? Also again, numbers that likely were manipulated by survivors dying on hook, disconnecting intentionally or just refusing to play. Nothing new here.

  • @Pulsar said:

What exactly are you trying to prove?

I don't think you understand how the game works very well.

Again, I'll ask you, using your own scenario; WHY should that Killer win if he is purposefully handicapping himself and the other side isn't?

If he was able to win, that would be EXTREMELY imbalanced.

Explain then why when killer brings the best tools available they eventually get nerfed to the ground? Why killer meta is constantly shifting and doing circles while survivor meta remains the same.

You said killer players can win with non-meta addons / perks playing as M1 melee killers if they play efficiently. I asked you to show me the example of so-called effective playstyle. You can't answer my question but keep asking the same stuff over and over.

Either answer my question properly without asking questions or stop debating with me because you have no arguments.

No way someone saying the activity hud shouldn't exist is calling my "bait" bad XD

It shouldn't. SWF also shouldn't exist. Plenty of things exist because majority of playerbase consists of survivors and game is catered for their enjoyment. They have higher priority and can manipulate statistics the way they like.

Accept that as the fact or continue acting like a clueless dummy. It's your choice.

  • I asked give me an example of efficient play with non-meta M1 killer without it's best loadout against competent survivors with common meta loadout. If you can't give one, then there's nothing to debate.

Why is he trying to win if he doesn't want to do what is necessary? He sounds extremely entitled.

His opponents are trying their ass off. They bring the best of the best and are efficient.

Why is he expecting to win when he isn't willing to do the same?

Here's a question for you. Why should he expect to win

Because game is balanced and it's totally possible to win without going absolutely dirty? Maybe because game is killer-sided and clearly it takes no effort to constantly get at least 2k? Or am I wrong?

  • @1ettuce said:

    Bad bait mate.

Depends on what his priorities are.

What does he hope to gain from that match?

Kills? He wants to get points and eventually win the match. Bear in mind that he does not tunnel or camp, does try his best in most matches. Meanwhile his opponents almost always have meta perks, don't waste time looting chests or doing quests.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3420937#Comment_3420937

    Why?

You've essentially said to take a worst case scenario that will never happen.

    Give me something realistic.

    It is realistic.

Lets say there's a guy who likes to play as M1 killer without tunneling, proxy camping and top tier perks and addons. He constantly gets matched with survivors who are competent. What he should be doing?

  • Define efficient play for low-tier killer with no meta addon / perk set against meta perk set, best items and addons competent survivors.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3420925#Comment_3420925

SWFs hinder killers and make them have lower kill rate. If SWFs should not be a thing, means current average kill rate at 61% will be a alot lot higher

Which mean, Killers will get further nerf. I dont think you want that?

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/1FQAD78KNYI7/image.png

So...do SWFs be struggle and need HUD, or not....?

Killers having higher kill rate does not mean they are stronger and need nerfs. It's well known how those numbers can be manipulated by survivors, I don't think there's need for me to recite everything.

SWFs do not struggle. SWFs don't need hud. They also don't rely on it because there are better options for them, be it voice communication, screen sharing or whatever else they can come up with.

For SoloQ hud is insignificant because it already tells them what they should know already if they are competent. If SoloQ does struggle to do the basic job and use opportunity of free gen repairment then it's their fault. If SoloQ ends up wiped out at 5 gens then it's MM fault for matching them with significantly more experienced killer player.

  • I'm not ranting. When you suggest people should play efficiently do you realize that it means they shouldn't go off-meta and pick weak killers? It seems all killer players who don't play nurse with top addons and top perks are not playing efficiently. Or do you think it is possible to play efficiently with M1 melee killer with fun or no addon / perks against competent survivors and be efficient? Because I highly doubt it is even possible.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3420906#Comment_3420906

    • Efficient survivors don't need hud, it was introduced so struggling survivors could ''coordinate'' better
    • SWF on discord how useful hud is to them

So SWFs are not efficient ?

SWF should not exist in the first place. Game was never balanced around them. The worst part is game is still being balanced around survivors all being SoloQ.

SFWs don't need hud because they have voice. They can just tell each other where they are and share other info. This kind of activity should not be possible neither for SoloQ nor for SWF ( there are survivor perks for such things ), but guess what - nobody will do a thing about it. Survivor fun is and will be the most important.

  • @Iron_Cutlass said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3420900#Comment_3420900

"Why dont Survivors play efficiently without icon HUD and basekit perks?"

Because SoloQ needs it. Also the team they faced has a 3-man SWF, so why does it matter or not in this situation? They would have had that information regardless of such, you are basically complaining about such a non-factor to begin with.

Also, the Killer tied. I seriously hate how people just brush over it, you dont have to 3K or 4K every match, I think it's perfectly fine to lose or tie. I also think it's accept to not escape every match as well. People just need to accept that you sometimes dont get the outcome you are hoping for.

I really am just tired of people posting on the forums one bad match they had while saying "gotcha, my point is right" but ignoring all the other matches they had, it feels like (and sometimes is) cherrypicking, or at the very least negativity bias.

And I have said this many times, but if you feel the game is favoring a single side, then play that side, put your money where your mouth is. BHVR sees statistics, they can see people playing Survivor and Killer, if you want change, force the hand by affecting their statistics.

SoloQ doesn't need it. If they can't coordinate and do their job when someone is being chased then they might as well just get hooked, sacrificed and move to the next game. Oh wait, it's not ok for them to move to the next game without having fun first, right?

Just because killer managed to tie a game because survivors either refused to escape or did absolutely stupid move does not mean that match was fair and balanced. I very much despise when people show those 3k or 4k screenshots of themselves being sacrificed and state that killer needs to be nerfed or toned down when it's very likely they were just goofing around and got punished in the end. Way to create an impression that killers are dominating the game.

Do you really think killer players enjoy stomping people at 5 gen? There's no fun in that for any side. Now is it fun if killer ends with 0 hooks at the end of the game? I can bet for sure it is fun - for survivor players. For killer? Highly unlikely.

I started playing survivor recently and despite being new and relatively bad I can say for sure that it's 0 stress environment for me. The best thing that there's no need to escape, I can still have plenty of fun doing different survivor stuff. Oh and before you ask - Hud doesn't help me at all. At the very least it motivates other SoloQ players to gen rush asap the moment the killer is away. Something efficient survivors already do.

BHBR looks at numbers and still does follow them. Even after the recent survivor riot they still follow numbers, ignoring the fact that survivors can manipulate those in numerous ways simply because there's more of them than killers.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3420900#Comment_3420900

I can explain, but I dont think you would like to listen. Because the reason why HUD exist is really obvious to even ask why it should be a thing.

Hud should not exist. Efficient survivors don't need hud to know what they should be doing. Yet it was introduced so struggling survivors could ''coordinate'' better. Might as well give survivors permanent Bond Perk that works globally. Go ask SWF on discord how useful hud is to them.

  • Cut this bs please. Why don't survivors play efficiently without icon hud and basekit perks? Apparently it's ok to give them these tools but if killer does struggle in any way then it doesn't matter. 4 people had fun. 1 might as well endure and move to the next game.

  • Don't be surprised. Last patch is the perfect example of how crybaby survivors can gang up, review bomb the game and force people who don't even play their own game anymore revert back things that they don't like.

Killers no longer are supposed to have fun. The idea is to make killers have only stressful matches if they want to win. This includes meta perks, fast tunneling and camping if needed.

If you think otz with his superb macro(not micro) should have less than an 80% kill rate

Why does this only go one way though? Some skilled killer racks up an enormous kill count and that's fine, but a perfectly coordinated survivor team manages to demolish a less competent killer and suddenly all the alarm bells get rung about how unfair the game is.

Guess when one guy beats the crap out of four is less morbid of the case than when four do the same to one guy.

  • I think the problem here is how long chases are treated in the game. Usually it is advised to drop a chase within 15 - 20 seconds if target is too far, has plenty of means for looping or has perks that can extend the chase for very long time. This means for the idea like yours to work, killer must keep self occupied with chase for decent amount of time or else there is no benefit for it, unless you buff the numbers, which in turn will be met with complains if the mechanic is too effective. This may also not be the most optimal way to play for some killers as well the fact that very often the hooked person gets saved relatively quickly unless camped. In other words it's akin to current Monstrous Shrine where chances of getting any benefit from it are very low unless killer has high mobility and can initiate chases very quickly, but for such killers perks that provide information or vision would be far more beneficial.

If you ask me, what killers need is something akin to basekit dying light or bbq and chill so the successful hooking does grant them with a stacking slowdown and vision to go for the next target. Of course it won't stop killers from camping a survivor when there's 1 gen left or they feel they won't be able to get another hook anymore, as well as for some end-game builds but it will make camping and tunneling less likely when there are plenty of gens left to do.

As if camping and tunneling is "fun". I know that's subjective but if it were legit fun killers wouldn't complain that they have to do it.

Camping and tunneling can be effective tactics and require low effort to execute. Rather than make them ''ineffective'' or more demanding, better offer an alternative where applying pressure can be meaningful and not so tiresome.

I'm yet to hear at least a single suggestion where survivor players could recommend something that would make killers not do these things and get rewarded properly for that. Instead they suggest that killer should be literally punished for every action in the game other than mindless chasing and constant target switching so everyone else can get their share of fun and then escape safely through exit gate.

  • I'd say yes to prevent survivors from intentionally body blocking killer and preventing them from chasing the unhooker but I guess certain people would find it unfair. To them, killer must deal with it and wait for BT to expire, or hit unhooked person and let both unhooker and unhooked escape.

How about next survivor who killer hooks just dies so tunneling problem is solved then too?

This kind of suggestion apparently is not allowed. Suggestions that benefit survivors are welcome though.

It sucks because a tons of killers aren't even willing to try other playstyles. Camping and tunneling have their place, but there are more fun options. At least during the early points of a round.

Maybe having killer perks nerfed or gutted down every next patch could have something to do about it?

Maybe some people want to have a fun game as killer with an actual chance of getting kills and not being a walking M1 clown with 2 or 3 hooks at the end of match every time.

  • I guess it's another one of those crazy ideas where survivors get a press X to win option and killers get hit by wreaking ball on their head. Very funny ( not ).

What would be a good example of an all around build please?

Franklin, Iron Grip, Bamboozle should have you covered up most of the time if you can quickly force survivors drop pallets, land hits and prevent them from messing with you during pick up and delivery. You may replace Bamboozle with Enduring or Spirit Fury depending on which killer you play, same is Iron Grip with Mad Grit and Agitation combo. Franklin is generally too good but if it's mass flashlight then you may consider picking up Lightborn.

It all narrows down to which killer you picked and what addons you've selected. As for map, it's either you do take an offering for one or use the Ward so survivors don't select the map of their choice.

    Title.

Just got bullied by SWF survivors 3 times in a row.

In your opinion, what Killer/perk combo would be the best to bully them back?

You can pick franklin if it's a team with items like mass toolbox / flashlight. If you suspect that it's a sabo-squad then you can go for mad grit / iron grip. Against loopers it's bamboozle / enduring or brutal strength.

The real power of so-called bully squad is you don't know if it's a bully squad before it's too late. If you can guess which type it is or go all-round build with decent killer, then you shouldn't suffer against bully squad as not a single tactic they usually use will work.
