issue is queue times, you would be giving huge queues times to killers that enjoy x character. Some player have recommended removing d/c penalty now that bots are in play. in theory, you could just d/c matches now and leave your teammates with bots if people hate specific killer, they can force killer player to only play against bots. In that sense, survivors could indirectly force killer players to play killers they do not enjoy playing because if they pick a character they do enjoy playing. you get 4 d/c.

If anything was going to kill the game it would be this.

Things that are harder to play need to justify the difficulty increase with higher power level. Lowest tier killers are also the easiest killers to play.

If bhvr were looking to attract new players then this is the opposite of what they should be doing, simple killer should be strong enough that they can carry them into the higher MMR where they will eventually get kicked back down again strictly because of their lack of skill.

Instead all of the current simple killer crop just leads new players to getting bored frustrated and quitting because they can't win a single match because of how hilariously outdated some of them are compared to the modern survivor meta

  • I'd say I'm far more burned out by the toolbox spam, honestly after like the first 4 days I was just done.

While I'm sure you're refering to 3 gen Skull Merchant, which is a legit although niche case, the way you've phrased your argument doesn't follow.

Explain in any way, shape, or form, a Killer, whose objective is to Kill Survivors, is responsible for delaying the game to an absolutely unbearable amount of time outside of it being a hacker. I'll wait here and actually listen to your response. Maybe you can convince me I don't know. But maybe, just maybe, you actually have a valid reasoning to this I'm not seeing.

Your arguing the survivors objective is to repair gens so not repairing gens isn't in their interest. Well neither is it in the killer's interest to not kill survivors. Neither of these benefit from the game timing out.

Survivors would perform the locker hop hiding game for 60 minutes just to make Killers miserable, if survivors don't do generators then they are the ones holding the game hostage.

If your game lasted 30 minutes because you botched yourself into a three gen and he refused to actively go after it and just started hopping into lockers and hiding until the killer chased someone, you are also responsible for slowing the game down.

  • I'll be honest I don't think a lot of these counterplay mechanics even really need to exist, singularity would still be mediocre and fiddly without emps, knight would still be boring but fine if he didn't give free endurance and haste.

Honestly I think this is why I like projectile Killers so much because the only counterplay is "Dodge", at least until MFT ruined that too

So you’re comparing running around the map hiding while your teammates die so you can get a “*50/50” chance at an escape to resorting to camping? No, I don’t think so. Camping is far easier and far more effective. What you’re describing for a survivor is left up to chance more than anything else, and will actually require more work as you still have to try and evade the killer.

I've always assumed that doing the locker hop thing was not because the survivors wanted to win the game it's because the remaining survivors just wanted to make the killer miserable and waste their time. That is one problem that can't be solved right now because survivors if they really wanted to could just hold the game hostage until it closes

  • Billy, shame I never played him back before he got nerfed thirty million times for no good reason, lol.

  • @HugTechLover said:

Your first mistake was playing a 4.4 killer in this meta.

Second mistake is committing to something like that for so long if you can’t hold the loop close enough to catch him.

The fact that you even made that first sentence encapsulates exactly what's wrong with the direction of this game's balance.

  • @KateMain86 said:

Nope, because this is entirely a killer made problem. Because of the endless excessive toxic playstyles of many killers over the years these changes make their way into the game. Your comparison is not an argument. Its wanting something to change where there is no problem because a solution is being offered where there is a problem.

So we should remove all toxic play styles then? Okay how about gen rushing, running four flashlights and flash bangs on a single team, boil over combos, honestly we have to get rid of map offerings entirely so survivors can't run stealth builds on massive maps and just completely hold the game hostage, not to mention endurance stacking with dead hard and made for this, the sheer amount of misery and toxicity survivors are currently capable of far exceeds that of the killer.

The amount of survivor bias on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

  • Well I hope you like that game because it's exactly what all of your games are going to look like once they install the anti-face camping mechanics and hook grabs are removed. It really is getting to the point where slugging people is just more efficient and less risky.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3462537#Comment_3462537

The protection is lost as soon as they touch the hooked survivor, not when the unhook actually goes through. If the killer is right there they can down them or grab them.

You do realize hook grabs are being removed right?

  • I would gladly pick up lesser used killers, but given their current state it's going to cost you 180 second generator timers or the deletion of endurance as a mechanic, BP isn't enough.

Realistically a lot of the older m1 killers just need reworks because they cannot function properly in a much faster meta which is what we currently have. When you combine extreme gen speeds with endurance blocking any hit you might actually get, m1 killers just aren't appealing anymore.

  • Because I can't see anything

I want BHVR to move away from obliterating perks on either side because of usage rate. I want them to introduce stronger perks that incentivize choosing them over other things. It’s good when matches feel like a tug of war rather than a stomp.

100%, every match is a stomp these days in one direction or the other, it feels like matches are decided in the first 90 seconds every time.

  • How about instead we Nerf the crap out of flashlights and flashbang so we don't actually need lightborn to exist.

I have no interest in going back to lobbies with four flashlights and four flashbangs and being permastunned the entire game.

  • Yes it's pretty much every game I play nowadays every single lobby has two or more tool boxes usually three to four and all people do is Rush generators and it's just so boring

  • I guess killers just shouldn't do damage at all now....

  • I didn't even know they were doing this, boy BHVR really are intent on completely destroying any fun killer experience

  • The fact that this is even a discussion is beyond absurd, how much coddling do survivor players need before killers are allowed to have anything good?

  • Ley's and midwich are killer sided what lol...

  • The fact that they didn't even acknowledge this perk in the latest update is an embarrassment

  • I swear to God it's like survivors are actively attempting to drive killer players out of the game because it would make them happy to just run around and map doing generators and nothing else with no one to stop them.

  • Yeah I think I'm done playing until bhvr decides it's a good idea to stop making changes that are actively killing their own game.

  • I have completely given up on this event because all I see are three plus tool boxes in every single lobby, genrush meta is so boring, I'm so sick of it and I'm just not having fun anymore. At this point it feels like a complete waste of time to keep playing killer, which for me means it's a complete waste of time to keep playing this game.

  • @Annso_x said:

Not to be petty but considering Blight's hug tech is still in the game I don't see why we should remove a tech that counters him.

As for Demo, I main him as killer and didn't even know this was a "tech", I do rarely see survivors crouching when I shred but i always hit them anyways so I thought it was just "giving up" gesture lol.

well you're being petty, because blight isn't the only killer this affects.

  • yeah they should've done this awhile ago.

  • Here is a handy guide on when it is okay to throw the game to punish someone:

    Boil Over

    Made for This

    Sabo

    Genrushers

    Flashy spam

    Hatchhiding cowards

    Hook divebombers

Anyone who uses backwater swamp offerings

Screw these people, make them suffer, bleed them out.

  • As a killer main, the thing that I enjoy most about playing the game is using my skill set in conjunction with extremely synergistic perks to outplay my opponents.

However I think it's far more important to address what isn't fun about this game because that takes up a bigger chunk of the issue.

Map balance is slanted in the survivor's favor 90% of the time and that makes them absolutely miserable to play on as killer and feel incredibly unfair. Combine this with the absurd level of darkness, lack of visual clarity and low fov and this just becomes unplayable.

Flashlight and flashbang are flat out broken proven purely by the fact that you need to dedicate an entire perk slot to countering it in order to not be screwed over at random by someone who has it.

Boil Over turns maps with dead zones into maps that are barely playable.

Made for this makes looping far too easy.

Generator speeds are too fast which makes the game end up being decided in the first 90 seconds and the rest is just a formality.

The game is too binary, we desperately need more objectives and more things to do besides just generators or killing survivors. Survivors need more than one critical objective in order to win, and Killers need more ways to interact with survivors besides just killing them.

90% of the time it feels like the survivors of the ones actually in control of the match pacing because they control the speed of the objective, this is completely backwards and the killer should be the one in control of match pacing.

  • Genrush meta would be unplayable for killers if lethal pursuer didn't exist.

  • "Stop tunneling me"

Yeah not really my fault if your idiot teammate divebombs the hook before I'm even out of eyeshot.

  • Yeah I definitely think the game is in a bad state right now, however I think the reason for that is that it was always in a bad state and the mechanics they nerfed just covered it up.

Put simply the game is too binary, survivors need more critical objectives besides just sitting on a generator in the same location until it's finished, something that forces them to move around so the game progresses organically. Killers need more ways to counteract survivor progress than just downing or killing them.

  • @Boons123 said:

How many matches has NOED ruined the match because the whole outcome was reversed only because the killer is rewarded for his failure

It's like saying (everything you've done, all the effort you've made, all the sacrifices you've made will be thrown into the nearest trash can)

Noed doesn't instantly kill every survivor, adrenaline may as well be an automatic free escape.

  • @Sharby said:

I still maintain that killer rewards should be mostly dumped into getting hits/downs/hooks instead of kills.

That way you could walk away from an 8 hook, 0kill game with tons of BP/Pips/Achievements without feeling bad. Instead of the current system where you don't get a whole lot for not killing anyone.

getting 0 kills as a killer will never feel good no matter how many rewards you heap on them. 2 kills per match is the ideal number.

  • I would agree that adrenaline is becoming a problem when it's being run on almost every survivor, although I feel like the reason that's the case is because generators are just being completed insanely fast.

    for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRNTXdZeBhY

This match didn't even have a full stack of genrushers and the exit gates still opened in under 5 minutes.

I thought the forums were supposed to be killer sided, lol.

I’ll say this: The reaction to others’ frustration some people here have is itself a bit immature, but at the same time some people here have an extreme reaction to their main being disabled.

Not exactly surprising, since Wesker has easily the biggest playerbase, but when Nurse and Dredge were disabled for a month I do not recall seeing this much of a reaction.

I understand that not being able to put points in him is frustrating. But then… there’s so many other characters for you to dump your points into.

Try someone else. You might discover an entirely different killer you like. Or, god forbid, get a second main, like me.

I'm not actually a wesker main, I don't even have him leveled up, but it's still wrong to leave him disabled for the event.

  • outside of t3h pr0n, censorship of any kind is idiotic.

Well, thematically speaking you would be stunned to find out that something you approached is booby-trapped, would you not?

Even if it wasn't the blinding light that got you, the bomb should have some sort of effect still.

The problem is that lightborn is supposed to counter blinding effects, if you're stunned then countering the blind basically doesn't matter at all because you can't do anything with the fact that you're not blinded, it's an interaction that makes no sense logically, lightborn may as well do nothing in that circumstance.

The DBD community writ large. Wesker mains have the Anniversary event ruined for them and some of the community responses :

    "i like not seeing Wesker"

    "Yay! So thankful for this!"

    "I'm happy"

    "Good."

This entire forum is a laughably survivor biased

  • @Mandy said:

My understanding is that you get the stun and a blind with Blasmine, Lightborn protects you from the blind but not the stun as thats considered to be separate.

    Which is utterly useless

  • I definitely think it would be nice if the map pool wasn't so wildly unbalanced, this goes in both directions. Singularity showcases this probably the best given that on some maps he may as well not be a killer at all because he's so underpowered and on other maps he's an omniscient God.

I would really like to see map design standardized, I'd much prefer map designs like dead dawg, coal tower or father Campbell's where things are kind of even depending on which section of the map you're in, although even those maps could probably use less loop/hook dead zones and less God loop setups. Out of all of the indoor maps I'd have to say Lery's isn't that bad but it still manages to completely screw over any killer that cares about collision or line of sight, maybe open up a few sections more with less walls and it would be perfect.

  • Made for this never should have gone to live servers.

    2. The killer is laughably easy to counter with his own mechanics.

    3. Made for This is stupidly broken and shouldn't exist.

  • Just saw a YouTube video of some guy doing infinite loops with made for this and blood pact, totally fair and balanced...

The future is here. DbD was close to perfect in 2019, however there is this trend to continue adding content without any concern for balance.

There's just so many changes that are baffling to me and it's almost like BHVR doesn't understand their own game. Like do any devs enjoy playing Solo Q survivor, or even play it at all?

Based on the reddit AMA I'd guess most of the devs have been working there less than a year and the old devs all got sacked/let go or moved on to other things, industry cycles dev teams out like every 2-3 years whether intentional or not.

This is probably because of the dev team cycling out. Average rate of employment for game devs is like 2-3 years, after which everyone usually leaves to go do something else, gets fired/let go for whatever reason hit the company dartboard that day. Hell in the reddit AMA it was mentioned somewhere they just got a bunch of new hires which is usually precipitated by a lot of old timers leaving. The entire AMA just sounded like "we're feeling like we're finally getting to really understand the game" which should take like 6 months, not 7 years, so I'm guessing the dev department is borderline brand new across the board.

Both sides complaining and leading to drastic nerfs, Devs not fixing things in a mannner that needs to be fixed and overall not great balancing with killers or surv.

Still don't understand why there hasnt been an add on pass yet for the weakest killers in the game.

I think the more the game gets balanced and overpowered things get stripped out the more the actual bare bones of the game get exposed, and those bare bones are just "do generators as fast as possible" which in turn leads killers to the logical conclusion "do whatever it takes to get kills as fast as possible".

it's clear the game's basic dynamic is no longer good enough by itself, we need more depth, more objectives, more time in matches so games are less explosive and more drawn out.

Personally I found the game much better when the average match lasted about 15 minutes, now I'm lucky if it lasts more than 5.
