True... but at some point they need to realize that there would be more benefit then not doing it

Sadly I don't think that would be the case. And they likely already realized that.

It's not like the current player base is gonna give them 2 chapters worth of income to fix the game.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

Maybe instead of pushing one person to do it they get it right the first time

Just look at the changes to the Skull Merchant

And it's going to take time before anything gets done on that level... cause they make new chapters every 3 months

Maybe they could go from 4 a year to like 2 a year for a couple years... it'll save them from creating something new every 3 months and give them time to make the changes to the other Killers

This might sound fine and logical from a customer standpoint. Even from a development view.

But there is no way in hell anyone is going to convince the decision making board of corporate overlords that this is a good business idea. It's like telling them that you want to cut profit opportunities by half for a couple of years without it translating on proportionally greater income at any point.

  • Plot twist, one of the survivors was the entity all along. Guess who?

  • @HugTechLover said:

Did you check behind you? You can block a killer from hooking by crouching behind them at the hook. Probably what it was.

No that wasn't it. I'm well aware of that. I actually dropped off the survivor next to the hook to check everything around and see if that fixed the prompt not showing, but it didn't.

That streamer did something knowingly, I'm pretty sure is some kind of bug exploit.

By that logic, just don't have chest in the map at all.

Less dumb challenges to give killers free wins.

Also by that logic a chest could be empty, just for big middle finger moment. I honestly would love that xD

Ah, but If there are no chests? Then the survivors would just work on their objective. Hide a trap in the middle of useful chests and the survivors will have reason to take a chance and open those chests. Empty chest would definitely be hilarious.

Would be all up for tripling the amount of chests if at least half of them were empty and I could trap one.

  • Considering that chest contents are actually the killer's property, I wonder why would the killer make the effort to ensure all its contents are useful for survivors?

Honestly it would be fun if trapper could actually change the content a chest with a booby trap.

  • Well, I main wraith. I also do better with him against strong teams than any other killer.

  • Why indeed? For no reason and any reason, really.

I mean I have had a significant number of players DC or suicide while I'm playing pig with no slowdown at all.

  • Which is why Gen slowdown down and Gen speed up should not exist in DBD.

Ditch all Gen perks and addons on killers. Also all Gen perks and items on survivor. Make Gen progression a constant. Also hook progression a constant.

Then balance everything else around that.

  • @Xernoton said:

I just played a few matches as Nemesis. I used no perks and addons because I really want to learn how to play this killer to the absolute best. Whenever I try to learn a new killer I will play as nice as possible. I don't camp, I don't tunnel, I don't slug for longer than 10 seconds. I understand that playing like this will cost me a majority of matches and I'm fine with that.

What I don't understand is why every single team I go against has at least 1 jerk that will either dc, tell me to end myself or teabag me in the exit gate with his entire squad before telling me how bad of a killer I am. Don't get me wrong, I've somewhat gotten used to this kind of stuff and I don't care about that too much. However, I've tried to find a way to make everyone happy in the game while still having fun myself. That didn't work out.

So tell me: What do you want me to do? What does it take for survivors to not be awful?

Edit: My choice of words isn't ideal. I made it sound like it's every survivor, when it's not. There are definitely nice people also on both sides. Please note, I did not intent to make this an 'us-vs-them' discussion in any way.

I'll pretend I'm on such toxic player and answer your question as such.

I want you to suffer and feel bad so my toxic behavior is validated.

    Feel like humoring me? No?

Ok, back to my regular persona, don't bother trying to figure out what these kind of people want. It's nothing you will want to do.

Instead, continue doing what you are already doing and let people who are not deranged toxic persons enjoy the pleasure of playing with you.

  • Pinhead and lethal pursuer. Finding the box 20 seconds into the match is just so satisfying. And you can almost taste the despair in the air.

  • Costs money. Costs time (which is also money), it's unlikely to create revenue.

Thus its very low priority in the list.

  • Well, they're certainly easy to take advantage of, really. From all the things people complain about daily on this forum, flashlights are the ones I really don't understand.

What could be better than having a survivor chase you while you chase another one, and giving them a good smack, for their troubles. Maybe even down them?

    Plague

Her add-on are all useful and she even has a pretty viable meme strategy. Her power is strong but doesn’t feel oppressive and has a skill ceiling to aiming her vomit. Survivors have ample counterplay and multiple strategies to consider against her

    She’s pretty much perfect tbh

Agreed. If only her BP gains were also good she would be perfect.

  • Spirit fury, enduring, bamboozle and pain resonance on m1 killers.

I use this on wraith, which I main and consistently get good results. Alas, addon dependant.

I also use this on doctor and works very well.

  • An interesting concept, but SWFs already possess this information regardless of debuffs, and considering the objective of the mechanic was to help close the gap between solo and SWFs, it wouldn't make much sense.

  • OK, I'll bite. Why would I do that? I would rather give survivors a reason to try (and fail) to get value out of their beamers, rather than having them give up on it and stick to generators.

  • Throwing viking hatches.

    Completely different from huntress.

Because the hatchets are viking.... See? Not the same at all.

    Oh wait....

  • Since most reasonable answers have been given, I'll give a different perspective.

This happens because the entity feeds on strong emotions, both positive and negative. The killer's frustration, pain and hatred, the survivors hope and hopelessness, they are all yummy emotions for the entity (bhvr)

And so it creates this cycle of toxicity via games mechanics and rules.

The more lopsided the trial is, the better for the entity. A match that is fun for both sides is the less desirable outcome.

  • Dredge. I like playing as him because he promotes unexpected things to happen (nothing quite like catching a survivor in a locker).

But the dark filter of his power on survivor is quite uncomfortable. I don't get headaches or dizzy like some people, but I certainly don't enjoy it.

  • Agreed. Tunneling is the one thing that is nearly impossible to fix. It would require a fundamental change in the game that I wouldn't even know how to go about it.

However, the uncomfortable fact is that tunneling is not without counter and can very easily turn a game into a 4 escape.

Go ahead and try to tunnel a decent (not supremely skilled) player and see how it turns out.

The issue is that a surprising number of players can't really perform well and against low skill players, any killer is overpowered.

  • Neh. It's quite all right. Buff survivors until they are in a satisfactory place. Specially solo.

Then address killers, one by one.

  • Who knows? Maybe they have hope.

I know that if the last standing tries to mount a rescue knowing that they are likely trading their escape for another's, there is a big chance I'll let them both go.

  • As a wraith main and enjoyer, I don't really care much about CoH and I can usually even turn the boon against them.

You just need to catch them when they think they are safe.

  • Basement insidious Bubba.

    Did I get it right?

  • As a killer main, somehow I don't dislike ormond at all. I actually enjoy my games there consistently.

I'm curious as to why people seem to hate it

  • Hear hear. I also don't really have a problem with it.

Sometimes it does something. Sometimes it doesn't. It's fine.

  • It is the killer I like to play as and greatly dislike playing against.

His power is uncomfortable to watch.

For me wraith does not work I had earlier 30 wins streak with him and I should realise that puts me in high mmr agains't sweatiest survivors...

I mean, I main wraith so I do better with him than with most other killers, what I meant to express is that you don't have to play super sweaty 4k every game to get max rank, and you don't have to use one of the strongest killers either.

Going for a 2k every match will get you to max with nearly any killer

  • I can get to iri 1 going for 2ks with wraith no problem.

Deranking is the act of purposefully throwing matches in order to lower your mmr/rank from your preceived skill level.

Smurfing is the act of using an alt account to play matches lower than your skill level while hiding that you have more experience than smurf account would suggest.

Thanks for the clarification. I will strive to never commit this heinous mistake in the future

  • @Deathstroke said:

But what if you go for 2K after losing many games should that keep your mmr lowered.

Actually, letting 2 people go is kind of my standard gameplay. From my experience playing doing this, it's an effective way to keep your games reasonably within a comfort zone. However I do have noticed that over time the difficulty does increase. But nowhere near as it would be if I just played for 4k every time.

  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3334172#Comment_3334172

Smurfing is using an alt account not tied to you main.

Is it? I recall reading a discussion about it that explained that either way was considered smurfing, but I don't remember where.

    You are probably right though.

  • Well it's kinda natural progression.

You win until you finally are matched with players who can read your play style and adjust accordingly in an effective way. Your regular gameplay will not work against them.

So you watch what they do, find their strengths and over time you learn to adjust your own gameplay to deal with different survivor scenarios. This takes time practice, patience and a certain mindset.

Keep at it. Or don't, if you don't enjoy it

  • You can. It's called smurfing.

Though it usually takes a whole bunch of 4 escapes to get 1 or 2 easy matches if you 4k again.

Definitely not worth it for the large majority of regular players, I believe.

  • You can get hit by simply standing too close to a window with the killer on the other side, no vault necessary.

Now if we are talking getting hit after finishing a pallet vault, that's a different story.

  • Not to endorse that behavior or anything, but it might also be that the locker guy hasn't done literally anything other than hiding in lockers and waiting for the last guy to die.

In which case the chased survivor might be annoyed and at least wants to ensure the other guy doesn't get to escape.

  • It's an extremely condescending thing to express.

Even if your feelings are genuine, it would probably have been in that player's best interest to simply not write that and just go next.

  • Did you do perchance either cloned your old drive or installed it directly on your new rig without a clean installation?

This kind of errors tend to occur due to missing or conflicting driver files, which in turn tends to happen when new drivers are installed on top of old ones.

Also make sure you have all redistributables required for DBD installed, as these don't necessarily install along standard updates.

  • I agree this buff is being done rather cautiously.

They have been bolder in the past, however since this is an overall buff to survivors, if done too ambitiously it might lead to a significant drop in kill rates, more than intended and would leave BHVR in the uncomfortable position of either rolling everything back or letting the community weather the storm until they can strike a balance, which would lead to frustration.

I agree that this solo buffs are better done in small increments until that balance is achieved naturally.

  • The thing with killers like him and pinhead is that, while they are very weak in a lot of situations, the specific circumstances where they are good, they are basically unbeatable. Dealing with that specific scenario can be very frustrating because even if you make no mistakes and do everything right, you still loose.

Those who come here and complain about them are those who just faced those situations and are understandably frustrated and come to vent, making it look like no one has anything good to say about them. Even if there is helluva lot more people beating the crap out of those killers on a daily basis who have no reason to come here and let everyone know.

    They are just that polarizing.

    Me 💫

    Oh?

    Piqued my Interest.

Do you have a you tube repository or something like that?

  • About the initial question from the title, in Black ops 4 you could one shot any player with the initial shotgun as long as you were using slug rounds.

If you aimed right you could beat highly experienced players using automatic weapons at nearly any range.

So yeah, there are other games where you can do that.

  • I was just playing now, so definitely not unplayable.

I like macro killers, but Knight...doesn't really seem to play like that for me. It's more like playing a neutered Artist - just forcing people off loops until you corner them, but without the skillshot aspect.

I actually do like playing knight in general, it's just that I don't feel I can really do well with him. Or more specifically, that whether I do well or not doesn't really depend on me, but the survivors.

And it does get a bit frustrating. But from OPs answer I surmise that I simply don't have the mindset to play him well, so I'll keep fooling around with him when I'm in the mood and not much more.

  • The meta game remains the same because it's tailored by players to address what they feel they need most to do well on games.

They changed the perks Allright, but the objectives of the game? Not much really.

So the killers will continue to prioritize slowdown and survivors will continue to prioritize Gen speed and counter chase.

They'll just do it with whatever perks do the job best at the moment.

Want a meta shift? Scrap all Gen speed related perks on both sides.

Make gen speed a fixed value (sure that'll require fine tuning) and see what the community comes with to step up their game in other avenues.

  • Increase base regression to 20%. Reduce repair speed of that Gen by 50% for 60 seconds. Increase regression speed of that Gen by 50% for 60 seconds. Increase repair speed of survivors hit with eruption by 30% for 45 seconds as long as they are not repairing the erupted generators.

There. A side grade that helps prevent "gen rush" and actually makes it fair and still powerful.

  • Actually no. I did tried him as I was attracted to his entire concept (angry bull and all that) but I just couldn't click with him and after 20 or so games I found out I just wasn't enjoying him so he went to the scrap bin.

I'm currently maining wraith with heavy chase and info build. Also pyramid and plague, but wraith is the one I can always do well with even against strong teams.

Most of my irritation is directed towards the people on the forums who go around and defend doing this.

I've made peace with my matches. I know how bad it's gonna be. I usually forget the quitters 10-15 minutes after a match ends, I don't have that much attention span. I point and laugh at them and move on.

But the people who go out and actually defend it, who go out and argue with people about it? That's the people who're gonna see this. That's who this is for. The "i'm a quitter and proud!" people who i'd like to make the self-justification just slightly harder for.

Gonna change anyone's mind? Sure ain't. But no one goes to forums to change their minds anyhow.

I suppose is as good a thing to do. At the very least, this provides some entertainment in the form of a discussion.

    :)

  • While I don't endorse DCing nor I do it, unless I genuinely have a real life reason to, it's really not that hard to understand why those who do it, do it.

When a DC prone player queues into a game, they do so with the expectation of having a fun enjoyable match. This mean that under the correct circumstances they can and will enjoy playing DBD, likely to a greater extent than anything else they could be doing instead.

Once the match starts their reasoning is as follows:

    1) the games goes as I want: stay, play the game and enjoy.

    2) the game does not go as I want. Suicide (ideally) or DC, then immediately go into another match they might enjoy.

See? They actually waste less time doing something they don't enjoy, and more time having fun matches (for them).

Is this an incredibly selfish and immature thing to do? Yes it is.

Can we judge them for it? Yes we can.

Do they care about the last 2 things? They do not

Can we make them care by making threads about or any other way? No, we can't.

All that is left is acceptance. Ultimately what goes, can come too. Those with the mindset to see things to conclusion do so because they get satisfaction from it, regardless of the result.

Not being able to "handle" the fact that those we play with might not care about us (or anyone else) and might do things we dislike is also a fault in my opinion.

And the only alternative to that is to Play with SWF.

1 2 3 4 … 17
