Playing solo survivor is/can be really frustrating. But I also think that it is the best way to get good at playing survivor. You have to learn so many different playstyles and adapt quickly in order to succeed and that's a lot more challenging than playing in an SWF where you don't need to read the atmosphere. This just tends to make a much more well rounded player who is a nuisance to the killer the entire game. You'll just never reach this level of play if you only play with SWF. You just got to power through the really frustrating games sometimes and learn when to put the game down for the day (and not think about it).
-
Flashlights are the second best item for solo-queue survivors and the best for SWF. For that reason, I'd say yes. Also, if you are a good looper then flashlight is very valuable to learn as you can piss off some killers into tunneling you. But be prepared to be a hinderance while you are learning it, especially on flashlight saves. You will cost your team a lot of time/maybe even create a losing situation because you fail at flashlights. But the survivors who are good at flashlight saves can instill a lot of fear into killers, forcing them to check areas before they pick anyone up.

Were the dc penalties in existence they'd all just suicide on hook. Were there a penalty to suiciding on hook they'd sandbag and throw for the rest of the match.
No matter what you do, you can't force someone to play a game they don't want to. They shouldn't queue for it if they don't feel like they're having fun, but you cannot force someone to play a game if they don't want to.
Or they can just start putting penalties for people ruining games if they accrue enough reports.

I was playing survivor. Idc if people do this when I play killer because it just means a free win for me.

The new graphics will make it worse for killers. Not to mention that the performance and FPS might drop for every player across the board, with consoles suffering tremendously from the new graphics.
Considering DBD is a capped fps game. I don't think this is true. My computer can without a doubt handle much better graphics without a drop in fps.

Take it as a lesson. A killer is not supposed to let survivors go.
Not only that, but it is such bullshit when they do sometimes.
Last night I played against a really great Oni. And it was me and another Jane left in the end game collapse. He killed me and let her go. I stayed and watched because I wanted to tell him it was a really fun game. But the arbitrary letting her go was complete bullshit and of course it was no longer a "gg" because of that. I let the Oni know too that killers always feel like they are such a great person for letting people go and should feel good about themselves. And I let him know that this isn't the case and I hope he doesn't think he's a nice guy for doing that. ######### people like that Oni.
-
When I first hit red ranks, I felt this way. It got a bit better, but I also don't play killer as much because it's just so much thinking. And when I play dbd, I don't want to think 24/7. I know people ######### on it, but sometimes holding m1 while being vigilant is really fun.
-
I played on the saloon as Nurse. There was a Gen on top of the 2 story house, another one on top of the hanging pit thingy and then 1 right behind it. I just sat on top of the hanging pit with a blink charged to go to either gen that was being worked on. The game lasted for so long but eventually I 4k'ed lmao.
-
I think the bigger problem with DBD is that toxicity is much more common And I'm talking about the kind that actually ruins games. You can have a killer facecamp you or tunnel you out of a game (yes, I know these a valid strategies to winning, but they are toxic). Or you can have survivors who d/c, throw down pallets for no reason, sandbag, etc. These players can be found in 1/4 matches, if not more.
Meanwhile, in a game like league...sure the toxicity really does take over a game and leave you frustrated. But 3/4 times, the toxic players still want to win and won't actively int/run it down. They'll softly throw the game by becoming keyboard warriors, but you can just mute them and ignore that. Plus, the other team will usually also get someone else with the same disposition, so you can also make them become toxic. Whereas, one person in this game can entirely destroy the experience.
Same goes for OW. Toxicity in overwatch is there, but I rarely feel hopeless because of it or is it so impactful that you are just screwed (outside of a ragequit/afk ).
DBD just needs to find a way to make the toxicity either less frequent or have less of an impact on a game. Games are literally destroyed by 1 person. But this isn't the case with LoL or OW.

You'll hit red ranks eventually but it doesn't really show skill. It should mean something but due to the fact red ranks are full of babies it doesn't.
To answer the discussions main question, is it an accomplishment? No since you get to red ranks by playing a lot, not by being a good player.
The thing is, this game is extremely easy. So if you play a lot, you will learn what you need to learn to get red ranks. But if you get downed in 20 seconds every chase, don't know generator spawn locations, always hide without pressuring objectives, etc as a survivor...you won't get red ranks, no matter how much you play. The thing is, if you play a lot though, you learn all this stuff because of how easy this game is.
-
@CashelP14 said:
Not really. You don't need red ranks to prove your skill.
Yes....you do.
Unless you got lower rank because of the rank reset, if you are a good player, you'll hit red ranks naturally. True, red ranks don't mean much. But it does indicate some level of skill achieved. Problem is too many people are in red rank, so the skill level is too disparate.
-
To the people saying quick chat messages:
Umm no...this would be a nerf to solo queue. People who just stop moving and be keyboard warriors all game.
-
Nurse is my favorite to play as. I always love high mobility characters in games.
Myers is my favorite to play against. Out of all the licensed killers, BHVR hit the nail on the head with him thematically. Everything just works really well with how he should feel to play against. I wish he was a bit better, so that more people played him.
-
I main Jane because I just love playing a thicc ass girl. I just wish she had more cosmetics that were good because it gets boring using the same 2 over and over because nothing else fits my taste.

Yes she needs a rework. She is the most difficult killer and so she should be fun to play as soon as you learnt to play her. And she should also be really strong if not even the strongest killer in the game because of that. People don't want her to be easier to play thats totally not the case. Her add-ons are completely trash. Her cooldown makes her unfun to play and doesnt help balancing at all. She is really buggy since her nerf and until now they only fixxed ONE bug that was also only affecting the survivors which is funny that they only fix that.
Honestly, Nurse is not that difficult to play. Is she more difficult than the other killers? I guess so. Although I can't say for certain because I play Nurse 95% of the time. But people vastly exaggerate how long it takes to get good at her. And maybe this is just my experience, but it does not take that much time to get a handle on her blink ranges and then it just becomes about learning how to predict patterns and read players. But this might all be due to my past experience that I picked her up fairly smoothly. I played league, so I was used to learning to read and react to opponents' behaviors and maining Tracer in overwatch taught me a lot about blink management and movement.

As a solo queue only (rank 4-3) survivor, gen speeds feel perfectly fine. The timing and pacing rarely feels unfair and when it goes too quick, it is usually because the killer is just bad, honestly. This is all balanced by strangers put into a game together without voice coms and matchmaking being really spread. I can't tell you how many games I'll have someone who clearly does not understand the game or is too scared of a killer, so they sit on one side of the map the entire time and do gens, ending up 3-genning us. Etc.
As a rank 3 killer, gen speeds feel problematic. But this is mostly because at least 2/3 of the matches are verse SWF. Cooperation and voice coms makes the gen speeds too much to handle. This becomes even more of an issue when 2 of them are good at chases because then you'll probably just lose without even have a chance to kill 1 person. I always felt like there should be gen repair speed penalties to people queueing with friends to counter this. A duo should get -5% (1 or 2 duos, doesn't matter, still 5%), a trio should get -10% and a quad should get -15-20%. BHVR needs to start thinking of inventive ways to handle SWF because right now they balance like everyone is solo queue, but SWF is very much a problem.

I find all games that I play during the day are fun, relaxed, and full of laughs for both survivor and killer. However, after 10:00 it seems the game turns into a huge toxic tunnel, Mori, flashlight clicking party that just becomes too frustrating to play. I wish it wasn’t this way or else I would play more. But yeah, I agree that weekends also get pretty bad and I tend to avoid playing those days and especially at night.
And i’m sorry for all the bullies and toxic killers/survivors you’ve encountered. It’s just a downside that comes with every online game pretty much.
I generally play this game somewhere between 11pm-7am EST and it's chill 75% of the time, sweaty 15% of the time, and rage inducing 10% of the time. That's not bad. But this game literally becomes unplayable on weekends, particularly friday. And I just wish they'd start to address this stuff

To add to the discussion: Do I think the nerf was warranted? Yes, but not to his basekit.
Things that were really unfun to play against in the past were double-windup addon huntress and instasaw on billy, both with the old tinkerer - which made charge time addons more effective -
That combination of addons + perks made both killers extremely oppressive to play against, effectively removing most of the counterplay you had.
As a consequence, tinkerer was changed to the version we know of right now.
My personal philosophy on addons is that they should make a killer stronger, but within reason, and addon combinations like primer bulb + tuning guide, tuning guide and doom engravings or even tuning guide and thompsons mix made billy much much stronger than he was at baseline, to the point were you could easily stomp most games at red ranks with them if you were even a mediocre Hillbilly player.
The addons are what made Hillbilly extremely strong and viable at high levels of play, and not his basekit. Hillbilly without any addons, or simply addoncombinations that werent Crack or Instasaw, against good players - and I dont mean your average red rank survivor - was a very balanced killer with a good amount of counterplay.
This is what made Hillbilly extremely fun to play as AND against in my opinion, the fact that you felt like the better player would win the chase.
Survivor and Killer interaction in a chase is what is the most fun to me in the game. I dont particularly care about getting four kills every match, or escaping every single match as long as I got to have a fun chase going on with the other player. As such, the ability to 4K every single match is something I simply dont care about as it doesnt tell me how much fun I had playing as or against that killer.
Hillbilly is the Killer I without a doubt had the most fun playing as and against in this game, other Killers just weren't that fun to play against (think Deathslinger, Pyramidhead, Spirit, Nurse) because for the most part I don't feel outplayed, I simply feel like I have to win a coinflip everytime - yes I know there's a certain amount of counterplay to each killer -
I understand the grievances other people had with Hillbilly the way he is on live servers right now.
I agree that his add-ons needed changing. The way they are done now on the PTB leaves you with some interesting choices, I think most of his add-ons are relatively decent or interesting (though I dont understand why they needed to add more gimmick addons with the flashlight-related addons).
But the overheat mechanic is something I can't see myself ever enjoying, even after testing it out on the PTB. Simply adding a cooldown to his chainsaw is something that - to me - removes a lot of the fun and gameplay depth you had with him. For example: being able to zone a survivor into a bad position by holding out your saw, faking the pallet break with your saw, curving, chainsaw feathering at pallets, all these things are effectively removed from gameplay now - at least in my opinion - because I'll have to always keep focus on the heat, possibly preventing me from using the chainsaw alltogether until it has completely cooled down if it ever overheats. This change is really taking the fun out of Hillbilly. Will he still be strong? Possibly. Will people adapt? Definitely. Do i think this change effectively killed the most fun and interactive killer BHVR has ever created? YES.
Am...I the only one who is not bothered by Deathslinger? He really does not feel like an anti-fun killer to me. I like playing against him in games and never really feel the frustration that comes along with certain killers with him.

I wonder if the survivors happy with this change will still be happy if a big chunk of billy mains end up switching to freddy and spirit.
Billie tends to smash my games faster than those 2. Don't get me wrong, Spirit also tends to smash the games but at least it feels less soul crushing (keyword: less). Freddie needs tweaking and I cannot stand how long he can drag out games, but he also feels like a death nets me some good time in game. Overall, I honestly think Billie has been much more problematic. Spirit and Freddie felt worse prior to rank 1, but when I started versing the BIllies who knew how to not run into walls so easily, he is super problematic.

Plague is my pet peeve killer. She makes the game feel so annoying to me that if she ever became more popular, I don't know what I'd do (I'd prob pray that there are enough killers by then to keep her not frequent)

Never attacked you, like I always say, if the boot fits feel free to wear it.
Also Billy never deserved a nerf you saying the opposite also shows your favoritism when it comes to the game.
Who knows maybe you just didn't knew how to play against Billy? Maybe you never went against a good Billy? But saying that he deserved the massive nerf shows that you are more into the survivor side.
Even good survivor mains don't think Billy needed a nerf like that, maybe tweaks to the addons but never to the main power.
Lmao not attacking and then launch into a repeated attack. Yikes.....If you're gonna be a horrible person, at least own it man.

It's just tombstone meyers, c'mon, get over it, we've all been there and it's kinda of a funny build 'cause it can totally backfire if the team don't give him full stacks (it's painfully long to get to tier 3 with that build).
It's just another thing on a pile of things that take away from the fun factor, with the annoying one being the massive grind just to feel like I can start playing the game without being handicapped due to the perk/bp system. This feature alone would be alright if it wasn't just an accumulating feeling. This game is fun as hell, but it needs so much attention to feedback because there's way too many unfun features.

Seems you just got unlucky. Tombstone Myers is pretty rare to come across. However, I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of that. Your teammates feed him stalk for T3 and then he comes and Mori's you instantly. It isn't fun and I agree it's not good design, but it's so rare to see this in a game that other balance/design issues should be dealt with first.
It's just another thing to the list of ######### that makes this game more frustrating than it is worth to continue. There are some things that are out of the devs control or hard to fix (e.g. SWF) but stuff like this just gives the impression that the Devs clearly do not play their own game anymore. And if they don't, why should I?
-
@Cheers said:
I believe this is Rancor. Once every gen is completed, you become exposed and can be mori'd. It's a very weak perk, and rarely comes in use, however it seems it worked on you.
We didn't. I justl looked it up and it was T3 myers. But this is still such HORRIBLE design. Always shocked at how bad the design in this game is and devs just leave it. I kept breaking LOS with him and not feeding him. But I had two horrible megs on my team who just let him get there and I have to pay the price (and of course I am the one punished because they both sucked). This game is a mess...seriously thinking of jumping over to Resident Evil after this event,

The Game.
It's a maze and really hard to wrap my head around it. I can't stand it and thought it would get better with time. I'm inching on 200 hours and it's still an un-intuitive map that is not fun at all, unless I am playing Nurse.

I've experienced this so many times! It's such a jerk move!
I agree. That said, I have done it a couple times. Usually if you have survivors who always dive bomb hooks instead of doing other things, I'll kill myself on hook. People hook farming is no fun.
-
Because its over 400% BP and survivors get matched very quickly. If you rush through games, it cuts the time by a large margin, making you earn more. If you were to play out real games, you'd have to sit and wait until the last person dies. Less BP in the match, greater BP overall.

Ah damn.. I leveled ghostface 1-50 and got 44 cakes but no BBQ. Rip those 44 cakes, as I see no point in using them now.

I'd like an original character that is more about strategic map play, like the hag, instead of chasing people down. It would open up new ways to play the maps and would be a break from the typical m1 killer.

"You always notice the bad more than the good", ofc I do. And I always check where they are from whether they are dickhead survivors or ######### killers. And its just always Russian. It's cheating, sure. But I'd venture to say that most of the community cheats. Raising your brightness level is cheating and most players I know have tinkered with the gamma settings.
There's also people who use points for huntress' axes, etc.
There's all forms of cheating and voice coms is just one of a long list that majority of the community does.

This count for the other side too imo. I know it does. I've been trying to play killer to grind out the BP. But trust me, it happens A LOT less for a killer than a survivor. And even when ti does happen, you still feel like things are in your control a bit. Meanwhile, if you have a killer who is deadset on keeping you out of the game...you feel pretty helpless. It's just compounded by the fact that cakes. Normally, I wouldn't get annoyed but it's getting to me. killer is more fun to me than survivor
not having to rely on teammates is good, and it also doesnt help that i find half of the killer roster really boring to go against/actually give me irl discomfort
oh, and queue times. survivor is 5 mins a majority of the day while killer is instant
Why do console players have this happen? I play on PC and feel like we're the exact opposite.
-
I think killer is more relaxing, less stressful and significantly less rage inducing. If a survivor is annoying with the flashlight clicking or being a good looper, you can just ignore them (or kill them and face camp them if you're that kind of person). The entire game is solely in your hands and if you are not looking to 4k every match, there is really no reason to get frustrated (even if you get smashed, it's whatever. Just move on).
however, survivor I think is much more taxing mentally. You have to deal with teammates and a killer. Get a killer who is a complete #########? Frustrating as hell. Get incompetent teammates who either don't do gens, lose every chase in less than 10 seconds, only go to divebomb hooks (even when it is unsafe and not running borrowed time), body block you/point you out to the killer, etc. There's just so much more in the game to make it more frustrating on the survivor side of things, even if the game is more favored towards survivors if everyone is equally matched. Plus, I feel like survivor takes a bit more skill than killer in terms of 1v1. You mess up, you die. Killer takes skill, but it's more in terms of time management (which comes easily to me because I played a lot of strategy games, specifically league, for a long time so I'm used to reading people/predicting stuff).
This is all my opinion though. My irl friend thinks that survivor is extremely relaxing because she can just rely on 3 other people to make up for her deficiencies, meanwhile killer stresses her out because it is all on her shoulders. Just perspective, I guess.

It's not the best, but its definitely top 3. I agree with the "dont buy" it part though. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. I'm sure they'll still make skins that you can mix-and-match and if you don't like the idea that you cant with this outfit, even if you like it, don't buy it.

Why? It's about the same quality as other 1080 skins, I think. The only issue is the fact that you can't mix and match.
-
I'd be okay with it if it wasn't 1080 auric cells. I feel like losing the mix and match aspect of it means there should be a price slash in it. Maybe 800 would be more acceptable. It's a good skin and I don't want to depreciate the value/time that went into it, but it should not be the same price as something you can mix-and-match with.
-
Doctor is annoying. A good doctor pretty much makes it impossible to loop. But I don't find him rage inducing or particularly unfun compared to some of the other killers. I could see how other people get annoyed by him though. It's kind of like me with Legion...hate that ######### even though they're not the most OP. Just an extremely annoying killer.
-
RE would need multiple chapters because it is so iconic. I would feel jipped if there was only 1 survivor added from the franchise.
