But didn't people have a problem with it before and they wanted it to be fixed. This was the fix we wanted. Granted it's bad and overall wonky as hell, but hey it's the "fix" we've always asked for

The matchmaking prior to the now-present MMR system wasn't good either, but it wasn't nearly as terrible as this one. You don't have to invent the wheel again if you do something like this. There are many studies on MMR systems and many many examples of systems that function well. DbD is not a new game. There was no big reset to simulate everyone starts anew (like resetting everyone to rank 20 for example). Everyone would have understood if they had done that. There were no placement matches either by the likes of Overwatch, League of Legends or whatever other competitive game there is.

As things are, the devs have no idea what they are doing

  • The game has changed a lot over time and often for the better. The recent downtrend in quality patches has been hammering the nail in the coffin almost though. Hope they start steering into the right direction again. This game can be awesome, just not right now

He is teasing you for it because you keep making a giant deal about it. Maybe if you would relax instead of blowing up on someone for making a joke, you wouldn't be sitting here arguing about it. The guy already apologized, but you kept snapping back.

Also, venting through a post on a thread isn't exactly respectful either. The discussion is about the MMR system and instead of just complaining about it, actually put a helpful and organized response next time. For clarification: Complaining about the game isn't useful to anyone. A post stating what the problem they had with the game was, and how they think it should be changed for the betterment of the community (not just themselves). If you need more help seeing what is a good post and what is a bad one, look at any post made by a killer who is complaining about swf and survivors complaining about killer. These are both examples of "bad posts".

At least the MMR system eventually puts you up against equally skilled players instead of the old system throwing you at ranks 1-4 when you are a rank 15. Just my 2 cents.

And what are you doing? Reviving an argument that has already been resolved, with no further posting on the matter being made, evidently derailing the thread further than it already was. The OP stated that people shouldn't be angry, because the system would magically fix itself within 2 weeks. Contrary to that, the devs have already acknowledged that the system is not working as intended, hence my first response. All I basically said was that I am disappointed with the continous mismanagement by the dev team. I clarified that I am not angry about the system, because the thread title assumes everyone complaining is just angry. The result was me being mocked over stating the facts and now you fall right in line with that.

Please, if you have nothing of value to add, don't try and antagonize me for no apparent reason.

I mean when I go against obvious babies I try to leave them a chance or two depending how's the generators going, to help them learn the ropes, and I eventually sacrifice them to reduce their MMR so they may be matched with killers of their level.

    ... In theory.

They said MMR does not depend solely on living or dying, so that does not help them

  • Ragequitting a game literally is you going "waaaaaaaaaah, waaaaaaaah, I am unhappy with how they are treating me"

If you are one of the people denying killers hooks by going "Narnia" on them, you are literally being part of a larger-scale problem. Same with quitting as Killer. I have been utterly defeated by SWFs on some maps. Just keep on going, sometimes you get'em when they least expect it.

But please, don't ask us to legitimize your bad behaviour. We won't do that.

It’s all RNG peeps. There’s no secret MMR.

Actually what I think they really did was set everyone's MMR to 0, no matter how good or bad you are at the game. There's no other explanation for rank 1's to be matched with rank 20's other than that.

I'm only responding to your replies. Don't take it so hard. I do opologize if you're feeling aggravated though. 😊

The question is HOW you reply to my posts. My initial post was me venting my frustration with how poorly this game is being managed and you make fun of that by playing it down to me just being angry. That's disrespectful as ######### and you have earned every comment after that. If you were interested in an actual conversation you would not have made your initial "statement" which served little more than to ridicule me. The final straw is you calling me arrogant over my 2nd reply and now pretending like I'm just an aggravated individual and you pretend to not even know why I'm pissed off at you. That's pretty arrogant of you to be honest.

But hey, you are a perfect reflection of how this community is viewed outwards and inwards. So good job on that I guess

It's more or less a observation. It's the manner in which your text reads as. And now it reads as arrogant. "Have a Brain?" You Did have the need to clarify in an edit. Which seems you needed because you too see your arrogant demeaning words Do read as such. Just for clarification. If you wish for a nice chitchat. Choose your words more wisely. Instead reading off as if you're better than someone else. (Also to clarify, my first comment was a joke. Sincerely, have a Snickers, you're not you, when you're Angry.

    Why So Serious.) 😊

Oh yeah my comment is 100% unsolicited. No negativity from your side whatsoever. How boring and small. You literally are taking me out of context and don't argue against anything I am saying. You earned the "bruh"

  • The colon at the end just makes this so much worse than it already is

  • Casting aside criticism and putting people off as angry despite contrary evidence is not exactly respectful and does not add to a healthy discussion. I'd rather you save the words than be like that. Have a Brain, have a nice chit-chat, or so I'd say.

  • Could you explain what that has to do with anything? Did they need to add a system that had obviously not undergone serious testing? Were they under any obligation to push out such a complex feature so early? They announced the MMR system back in May, we're in mid August now. Time really is no argument here. Not then, not now, not in the future.

  • Oh yeah the new players just need to go against rank 1 opponents for 2 weeks it's finnnnnnne guys! The system will fix itself magically!

The system is just terribly implemented and ineffective and seems to be working in weird ways.

EDIT: I should point out that I am not even angry. Just more disappointed with BHVR than I thought I could be after all the other bullshit they're doing. This game plays like Early Access on Steam Greenlight.

And what exactly is the difference to old matchmaking? as a rank 14 killer, i got red rank swf all the time. Doesn´t seem like better matchmaking to me.

Old matchmaking at least TRIED to put you into a match with opponents of similiar rank. Anything is better than what we have right ######### now.

If they had added like a shadow-MMR that'd prevent people who derank on purpose from being matched with weaker killers and vice-versa, that'd have been fine. They made a broken system even worse.

  • If they bring a way to exit the match at their will I add an option to remove someone from the game. That easy. Remove keys AND moris please

  • I made this thread back in May. It was so ######### obvious this would be a massive fail. I dont enjoy playing killer at the moment because I keep getting rank 20s and it feels horrible to kill the poor babies. On the other hand, I hate playing survivor as well because I keep getting baby killers also. Honestly, if I didn't know how good this game CAN be, I wouldn't even be writing this. I'm a long-time fan and supporter of the game after all. Just REVERSE the changes and go back to the drawing board, because at this rate you won't have a playerbase to begin with.

Thats exactly the same as in shooter games. If you get killed by a house camper, that will affect youre rating. Its still better than just a playtime-matchmaking, cause thats what the ranking system is all about. Thats why rank reset is meaningless.

In a shooter game, you are not immediatly thrown out of a game because you died once. There's no respawning in DbD. A single occurence in a shooter game is much less impactful as death in DbD

  • @LetsPlayTogether said:

It cant be worse than the actual matchmaking.

I think it absolutely can. Instead of emblems that reset every month we'll have a permanent ranking system that works in the background. We cannot see if, we cannot truly know how to affect it and it will feel really unfair to many, many players. DbD is not a level playing field. It's an asymmetrical survival game. If that Billy decides to facecamp you, where's your player agency? The entire point of MMR is to rate your personal skill to match it against others, but there are too many factors in the game that affect your experience and you have no say in it.

So yes, the new system WILL be worse than the current system.

  • @MadLordJack said:

So it's totally okay for tryhard sweaty swfs to get matched against low-skill killers?

DBD needs some sort of proper matchmaking, but the Devs are too focused on the wrong thing. Nobody wants instant ques if they are going to get bullied 4 out of 5 matches. Seriously, it's just plain wrong. Why do you think no-one plays killer at high ranks? The ques are instant.

What region do you play in? I'm from Germany and hell no my queues aren't instant. I sometimes wait 8-10 minutes at rank 1.

MMR wouldn't fix matchmaking, it'd work atop the Emblem system from my understanding

  • @Deadeye said:

I can't think of it working either. This will just treat a win and loss as 0-1k or 3-4k which we know is not reflecting skill at all. Emblem system neither. You can easily do bad and get a 4k by either NOED/Bloodwarden or an over altruistic team. And that would mean you are ranking up for an 80% bad game.

The current problem is the matchmaking, that screws over the pipping, because rainbow groups are matched against the best possible killer, which also creates the queue times. There are simply not enough high rank killers available, to put one red rank into each match that contains a single red rank survivor. That expands the range, putting lower ranked killers into higher ranked survivor matches and in each game one side is having a bad time. Note, this is just an assumption of how it works, but I really think that they need to match riller ranks of the average survivor ranks again, not the best survivor rank.

And MMR is even further away from being skill based than the emblems are. There is no system that is able to judge if that trap was well placed or if the survivor just didn't pay attention. If the killer chased well or if the survivor got stuck on a corner. And so on.

I was about to create a thread about emblem rework, but before I gathered my thoughts, the MMR was announced, so it would be kinda useless now to come up with that

    Exactly.

I mainly play killer, although I have been rank 1 as survivor as well. I mostly played solo-queue but sometimes played duo with a friend, so at least I know both sides when I talk about this kind of stuff.

You notice that there is a ranking problem with the emblem system when you spend a lot of time on rank 1. It's actually quite easy to rank up in this game if you play in a certain way, so red ranks are a pool of many different skill levels. This of course wouldn't be a problem at all, different skill levels are part of any competitive game. But there's a HUGE difference in skill level between rank 1 killers and survivors. Some games you face absolute potatoes (noticable solo-queue), some games you face monster teams (full SWF on comms).

MMR wouldn't fix the system, it'd cure the symptoms. We need to have a separate bracket for these types of players. Merely implementing different queues for SWF wouldn't do anything since you'd take people out of regular queues, making the queueing problem even worse. Making it possible for killers to opt out of facing SWF teams would make queue times super frustrating for survivors. They added more people to the pool of players queued up at the same time by enabling crossplay, but not everyone allows it in their own games and thus it only helps on surface levels.

The problem at hand is frustration over matchmaking mostly, so why not have a "legendary" league like in Hearthstone, a permanent rank you unlock every month anew? That way people can enjoy being competitive (but have longer queues) while rank 1 is occupied by people who aren't ready to face that level just yet. The way to rank 1 should be longer, too. The emblem system just isn't a reflection of skill, but of time spent and matchmaking tactics involved.

  • I'd like to open a discussion on MMR in DbD. I am 100% convinced that an MMR system will never work in a game like Dead by Daylight. In fact, it cannot.

You are not a bad survivor if you spawn in a corner with a Billy

You are not a bad killer if you go up against multiple SWFs with meta perks and full items, obviously doing worse in comparison to regular matches

What are the actual problems with matchmaking currently?

    1) queue times

    2) fariness (both enemies and allies)

    3) latency (ping issues)

By dividing time between fixing major issues to implement a worthless system, you are delaying vital changes the game really needs. In fact, you'll make things worse with hidden ranks. People will know there'll be a system like that and will either deliberatly play "worse" to lower their MMR and get easier matches or play more selfishly in hopes of gaining more MMR from their matches, both of which favours unfair behaviour.

I have more arguments, but I feel like the thread should be left somewhat open for debate. These arguments represent the most compelling of the bunch, so feel free to comment and share your thoughts

    Stay safe out there!

    EDIT: grammar
