How do we feel about Boons after the past two chapters?

Boon builds have gotten a new piece to play with the past two chapter with lend a hand and steadfast along with shadowstep finding new life as aura perks get more popular so how do we feel about them atm? I wouldn't call them meta but they feel viable like maybe if you call exhaustion perks and some anti tunnel tier 1, boons feel like they're just outside in a tier 2 space where they're not the best but can be impactful. I think in the current meta they're the strongest they've been since original CoH (but obviously not as strong as that) and it's funny cuz between that and lay waste maybe bringing back gen kicking for killers it feels like it's 2022 again.

  • Personally I’ve always really liked boons. But admittedly it can be hard to get decent return on investment depending on rng. It does take time to find the bones, the radius is specific and can either be totally useless or really strong depending on where it goes and the sound they give are considerable drawbacks.

I feel like because many stronger perks were tuned down, boons are now viable again in relative strength to everything else. I do think more boon perks would be fun. Personally I’ve always wanted a trap boon. One that offers a stun or blind or something silly. Maybe even a perk to quiet the sound boons make. Can’t tell you how often I’d have exponential get no value because the killer hears it and snuffs it out before you could recover . Regardless, I’m happy to see them in the game more recently.

  • They suck. There is nothing new about them. Some people like Boons, they bring Boons. Which is fine. They are not really helping their team with that, but everyone can play how they like.

EDIT: That people try to act as if Boons are good or "the strongest they have been since origina CoH" does not change the fact that people using Boon-Perks spend valuable time for less than mediocre effects.

  • I have little patience for set-up and have lit maybe two boons ever so I can't comment from the survivor side but I've had at least one Shadowstep in almost every one of my killer matches lately and it's driving me crazy. I've always thought it was kinda slept on because a well placed boon on certain maps is a massive nuisance to deal with if it keeps getting relit. Last match I had last night should have been quick. I had two people dead with only one gen done, but this match ended up being 17 minutes long because someone was just walking the map relighting their boon and I couldn't track them.

I currently run stealth as survivior and if my preferred perks ever get nerfed I'll likely switch to Shadowstep myself.

  • Been stacking boons like Shadowstep to deal with Nurse's Calling Judgement. I've actually found it has genuinely helped if everyone is on the same page. Been bringing Expo too but not really seen it do much for me yet.

  • Boons are still only usable in swf sadly. Otherwise it's just not worth running. They haven't really been usable for a long time and the new boon is not gonna change that fact. Seriously who thought steadfast was a good idea? A boon typically only touches one generator, it just makes no sense with how the perk is designed. And that's not even going into how horrible illumination has been since release.

I think they need to buff a lot of the boons. Exponential and shadow step are actually fine but the others are just so underwhelming for what boons ask in terms of time investment.

  • They’re good for people who struggle to get boldness points. Unfortunately they’re just to dang loud to be viable. I don’t know why they’re so loud. Cause outside of CoH they’re not even that strong.

  • only reason Boons fell by the wayside was because they got nerfed by the map changes; us indoor enjoyers abused the likes of RPD, Lerys, Hawkins etc

  • There are no boons that are even close to worth running over many other better perks. They range from mediocre at best to downright useless at worst. Whenever a solo queue teammate blesses a totem I roll my eyes because I know the match is already over.

  • They only really feel helpful when you have 4 boon perks at once. But even then i never get too much value from my teammates boons. especially in soloqueue

  • Boons are still bad perks and rarely worth the effort to setup. Steadfast in particular shaves less time off the gen than the time it takes to setup the boon. The only reason anyone was seeing more boons is because of Shadowstep being the only remotely consistent counter to aura read against a killer that rarely hooks. Self Preservation would have been the perk spiking in usage over Shadowstep if Judgment had to hook. As you see Judgment less you will also see fewer boons.

I have had a single match where I was assisted by an Ada duo both bringing four boon perks. The only reason they were helpful was because we were facing a nurse that was hard crutching on aura read, both boons had Shadowstep, and the nurse refused to step five feet away from their three gen to snuff the boons. A better nurse player that wasn't so reliant on aura read or any other killer and those boons would have done far less.

  • The fact that boons are becoming meta of all things is kind of sad tbh

Boons are very bad. Don't deserve the perk slot. The more boon you bring the fewer exhaustion/anti tunnel/gen rush/team perks you can bring and they are obviously more important than boon

I think Expo and CoH are very good. I just wish more people knew CoH shows your aura to the team if you're injured and within the boons range. And expo is like one of three perks in the game that counters slugging. You gotta take advantage of that.

  • I quite enjoy boons honestly. I get a lot of value. My first build ever was built around boons.

    Dark days indeed

  • I enjoy boons, with a map Circle of Healing, Shadow Step, Steadfast to make up for lost time and Flow State to really cut down blessing time later on, buff healing/unhook speeds.

they are really effective for a support build to help macro play. I really love them. I do wish they had a radius increase though.

I moved over to them as my support build until I get something akin to vigil again that helps with debuffs.

  • Nothing hast changed, Kwons perk is too situational and requires finished gens, that's just not really controlabllable.

Auroras Boon is just a worse Dejavu, granted, it works for everyone inside the boon, but it is extremely rng and map dependent, it only really helps in a 3 gen and if you want to prevent the gens from loosing progress, but good luck finding a good totem for it.

Boons are still meh, I personally hate them as a survivor, because I keep having teammates that are the killers personal corrupt intervention and always wanna boon, even in unnecessary situations, they usually waste so much time

As a killer I just don't like Exponential sabo squads, but that's it

  • Shadowstep is so viable against aura builds but it's the getting it set up which is the tricky part seeing as the killer is likely to see the boon being set up before it even activates

  • Been seeing a lot more boons in my gameplay from both sides. As killer though I just cant bring myself to drop a perk for Shattered Hope.

  • Vigil should be reborn as a Boon
