Let killers abandon when the gates open

Why is it survivors can opt out after they all get knocked down, but killers have to either wait out the collapse or painstakingly kick force the survivors one by one out of the gate as they teabag? I already lost, I just wanna move on to the next game, and I'm already in a bad mood, what difference does it make if I quit at that point?

  • When survivors get knocked down theres no way to advance the game.

When the gates are open the killer can advance the game even if they don't like it.

When survivors get knocked down and cant leave they're at the killers mercy to end the game without eating a dc penalty. As we saw people would simply let survivors bleed for most if not all the timer.

When the gates are open…the killer is still able to force the end of the game still because they still always have agency. At no point is the killer at the mercy of survivors.

If we keep adding ways to quit then eventually the goal posts get moved enough that theres no real game period.

I agree that there is a fundamental difference between these two scenarios because the killer will always have the agency, but I'm not 100% sure that the OP's suggestion shouldn't be a thing. Maybe it could be implemented the option to abandon if all survivor's are in the gates for more than 20 seconds? This could technically be circumvented by sitting right outside, but at least it would be a little less safe to do so and maybe punishable, so maybe it would discourage waiting to bm. Personally I don't mind it as the way it is, I'm able to force survivors out if they're taking to long and I don't want to wait, otherwise I can just use the last minute or two on the endgame timer to break some pallets for extra points.

Im more a personal proponent of punishing dumb behaviors ex: the end timer speeds up per survivor hanging around a certain radius of a open gate. Im NOT a fan of adding more abandons unless its specifically because something is causing loss of agency. Get as creative as you want with punishing behaviors but don't be lazy and add a "fix" resulting in dull endings.

I get that, although if something like this were to be hypothetically added you'd probably have to add that this wouldn't take place while a survivor is hooked (and maybe downed) since sometimes survivors will reset for a save in or nearby the gates

shrug Better than abandon to me

  • It takes like 5-10 seconds to hit everyone out I dont get why people want to abandon so badly.

If the survivors had something like base kit BT after x amount of time they would also not be allowed to abandon by my guess. As Rulebreaker was saying its about the agency the players has, not just because you lost.

  • If, then they need to adress both issues.

Both last survivors can abandon once any of them are downed to reduce wasting time from killers slugging for 4k.

Killers can abanson once exit gates are open.

Because it's so annoying seeing t-bagging after a bad match where you got only 1 or 2 hooks, or a match where you got everyone to death hook but they still escape and t-bag when you were nice to them, or a match where you just got gen rushed (every or majority of survivors having hyperfocus + stakeout and BNP).

It wasn't enjoyable and they make it only worse by t-bagging.

  • Not gonna happen until killer bots are added.

Why? As long as there's challenges, achievements and whatever else tasking survivors to do something at endgame, they're not gonna do this. They've been trying to move away from situations where you basically need your opponent's consent to get something like that done (such as Myers mori achievement, which before you just had to hope people didn't camp lockers to deny you it)

I get what you are saying but that does mean everything that is annoying / unenjoyable players should be able to abandon from?

Eg tunnel out at 5 gens, ghoul stacked with slowdown and best ad ons, multiple saves successfully done leaving you with no hooks, getting RPD as billy.

If we allowing the abandon option for annoying / Unenjoyable situations a lot of abandon options are gonna be added.

Ive said before in other threads I dont really mind if its added with killer bots, but I dont think it needs added.

The End Game Collapse is only 2 minutes. If you don't want to interact with the survivors, you can just press Tab and go make a coffee.

Bleeding out only lasts 4 minutes, if you don't want to sit there you can just Tab and go make a coffee.

If the whole point of the abandon system was to make it so survivors didn't have to sit there and waste their time, then killers should have the same at end game. If the killer feels the game is already lost, they don't need to be forced to play out the last few minutes of the match.

The difference is that in those last 2 minutes, if the killer is not interested in interacting with survivors, they have the option to AFK and make a coffee, or break pallets/do glyphs/practice their M2. Survivors can leave or they may be completing a quest, healing for points, cleansing a totem for points, looting chests, etc. There are also plenty of situations where those survivors could be caught. They might even die to the end game timer.

Personally I like the chance both as killer and survivor to interact at the end of the game. It's not always a toxic moment.

Survivors abandon to avoid watching 10 second mori cutscene. If the point of the abandon system is to allow people to not have their time wasted, then killers need to be able to abandon at the end game. How much time is being wasted doesn't matter, because again survivors abandon to avoid Mori cutscene.

I think that Abandon option is just a side effect of being the last survivor on the ground, not necessarily a mori-skip.

It still gets used for that. My point is that 10 seconds is enough for survivors to abandon to avoid wasting their time, so it is absolutely fair game for killers to abandon once EGC starts. No reason to force killers to stay in game if all they will do is AFK anyways. They can leave and requeue accepting the loss.

As I said in my previous post, there is a huge different between EGC and having all remaining survivors on the ground with no way to get up. In the EGC many things can happen and be done by both sides. An Abandon option when the game is not yet over, could even be seen as discouraging to the killer player.

Survivors slugged on the ground could have unbreakable yet the game lets people abandon regardless if there is a chance.

It's not like Killers would be forced to abandon when EGC start. It would be up to their choice. And if they feel the game isn't worth playing out, then let them leave. Otherwise forcing killers to AFK because they cannot abandon is just wasting their time for no good reason.

  • I think its a fine change, game is basically over at that point, I Just abandon as survivor to move on to the next game idk why a killer couldn't do the same

  • He Abandoned as someone was popping off the Hook with Deliverance (which, Survivors can see each other's perks if they bother to check the match details, now). So technically the match wasn't over, even though, he had been knocked down, but he Abandoned. The person with Deli was probably screaming at their monitor. If the Exit Gates are open and all the Survivors are just waiting around in them, the match is kind of over. Survivors can Abandon when there are second chance perks in play that could turn a game around, but a Killer can't Abandon when there's nothing left to do but wait out four sore winners standing in the Exit Gates to BM? Doesn't really seem like fair logic.

The downed survivor in the clip... could do what exactly under their own power? Wait and pray or abandon. In that specific scenario they should have waited a bit, if the hooked survivor didn't have Deliverance, then they'd be SoL. In no situation I can think of is the killer powerless to do nothing to keep the game moving.

Both sides are different, what seems "fair" (already subjective) for one is not for the other. Was it "fair" when killers forced survivors to bleed out for 4 minutes where they could do nothing but DC or pray someone had a one time use something? Tell me when the killer is put in a similar position, and no the exit gates being open and the survivors inside is not. The reason? Killers can still actually end the game, it's entirely in their power, no DC required. You say "logic" but often the "logic" when talking about this topic is more mired in emotions. Hell even I'm guilty of that as I hate the abandon mechanic, yet I'll admit it and still see why it was added as it is.

To hammer the point again, the killer is at no point held in a position where they can not do anything productive, yes even if it's just to swat out stupid survivors. If nothing else your more proving why abandon was horrible to begin with.
