Example of how bad the cakes are this year
During last year's anniversary, I played every day of the event. And even with the heavy nerf to cakes last time, i managed to collect over 1100 cakes on Lara Croft, 1100 cakes on Rize, 200 cakes on about 6 other characters i occasionally enjoy playing, and 100 cakes on each of my p100s since their cake rate was absolutely obliterated.
This year ive also played every day so far, and have put over 11 prestiges into Shane. And all he has so far is 185 cakes. Even following the most efficient bp spending methods like auto spending to each guaranteed cake level for a chance to get extra cakes (which was patched out).
So currently the event feels like i can only afford to collect cakes for 1 person only. As i am not willing to blow 13 prestiges into all the new characters i occasionally enjoy playing, that have come out since last year. And i can forget trying for cakes on my 100s because it wasnt worth it last time either.

Out of curiosity how many cakes from last year do you have left on Lara and Rize?
Not saying I don't agree we need to have more cakes, but it's actually slightly better BP efficiency to grind them on your p100s.
It costs about 1,100,000-1,200,000 BP to prestige a character once. Because the cakes only appear at certain levels, you can only get a max of 27 cakes on killer, and a bit less on survivor since the cakes appear on less levels for them for some reason.
You get 1 cake guaranteed per p100 bloodweb, and you can get through 30 bloodwebs for the same amount of BP. Which means a bit more for killer and several more for survivor.
The levels the cakes appear on by the way are:
Killer: 3, 5, 7, 10 (two on this level), 12, 13, 15, 20, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 44, 45, 47, 49, 50.
Survivor: 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 28, 30, 33, 35, 38, 40, 42, 45, 47, 50
928 on lara. I barely play ghoul because i've been waiting for a rework that will likely never come or the hate to die down. (big fan of Rize from the anime though). Mind you i play the whole roster constantly on both sides (10 p100s). So if i were playing only lara this whole time, shed probably be out of cakes. Rize still has 1107 because ive probably used her 6 times in the entire year.
The thing about the p100s tho i have tons of everything i could need on the p100 alredy except for cakes. So it feels like each cake costs an entire lvl 50 bloodweb of items you don't really need, when other characters could be earning prestiges with the same points along with the cakes and items they could start stockpiling. Year 8 i could get 3-5 cakes per bloodweb allowing me to stock up quickly and move on to other characters. Which is why year 9 the nerf certainly made it feel much worse.
Just play Ghoul. You bought the licensed chapter, you bought the licensed skin, play the character. I promise you that it's morally okay to play as a video game character that some people find annoying.
Besides, if there's one life lesson that DBD has taught me, it's that anyone who would actually complain about something as simple as what killer their opponent picked are the people you should be the least concerned about upsetting.
(Of course I mean people complaining at the killer here, nothing wrong with privately grumbling to yourself/friends)
Ill admit you are right and i should probably just play her regardless. Jason seems to be the current focus and most popular pick these days too.

If you're like me and don't really want to play a character that can get some pretty cheap wins, just run sub-optimal builds. Ghoul can afford to break away from the meta.
On topic, though, BHVR is never going to revert the cake changes. They feel like they need to do it to maintain player retention, so the only way to actually get them to back down is if thousands of us stop playing, which just won't happen.
Yea im just holding onto hope that bhvr will care enough to change the cakes back with enough voices. But if anyone knows how pointless it is to ask for something on this forum it is I, the one whos comments they delete everytime i ask for Shanoa again for the past couple years lol.
I've also never been much into using meta builds either. Like i often play The First and try to bring only barbeque for aura rather than a full aura build. I can't even remember the year it was that i last used something like Noed to get an expose hit challenge done. Ghoul's meta seems to involve Friends till the end and obsession builds (from all the kanekis ive played against). Which i havent used on them yet. Its just been more about how common he was that people were kinda sick of seeing ghouls every 2nd round.
I try to only play Ghoul when I crash out, but Korean Ghoul on the Tricksters map showcase was a good time.
So you never had the thought that cake rates in previous years were just absurdly high? You think its fine to still carry many of them after a year? Its funny how people just accept being oversaturated with something as normal.
No one asked for the cake rates to be changed. They were perfectly fine before.
Most pointless change in the history of the game, that only served to make a lot of players unhappy.
If anything, the cakes helped us stay in the game, and they helped make the grind manageable.
No one ever would ask for the cake rates to be lowered. They'd probably still be crying for more cakes if they left them the same as last year, which was lower than the year before.
I can understand them cutting the cake output a bit from times when people could stack hundreds of cakes on a character with just a few hours of play. I still have 400 Screech Cobblers on my Lich and I've played him a lot over the last 2 years. Playing for a day during the 8th anniversary netted me practically a lifetime supply of cakes on many characters, and I burn a cake every game I play 365 days a year because I have so many cakes not burning one would be a waste. They gave me so many cakes I don't even value them, they're like my bags of Canadian pennies that are no longer currency.
We can still stack hundreds of cakes on characters, it just takes a little more time and effort. If you're a casual who can only manage to play DbD for a just a few meager hours during the 21 days that the event is live that's a problem with the player and not with the cake drop rate. We can still earn 4+ cakes per match played during the event and they gave us 5 million BP. It's not that bad.
I wouldn't ask for the cake rates to be lowered either, I'd love to see 5 cake games year round. I am just saying I understand.

You know what it did?
It made me feel like BHVR was a pretty cool company. It made me feel like they valued us a customers to be so generous with an item like that. It made me feel like all of their missteps when it comes to balancing this game to be enjoyable for both sides were just the fumbling efforts of a development team trying its best when there are 0 other games like it for them to learn from and copy. It made me feel like at the end of the day, they wanted us to have fun playing their game.
It made me more willing to spend money on the game. I would actually buy every chapter with real money because I wanted to support the developers and the game.
But not anymore. Any cosmetic or character I can avoid spending real money on, I will. I have hundreds of thousands of banked iridescent shards due to the fact I never actually spent them on new chapters. I'm not quitting as I still enjoy the game, but they'll be getting less of my money now.
With the way they've decided to go with original chapters not having a buyable dlc anymore, they might have made it easier to avoid paying them as much as possible. I had a few games in the steam cart waiting for shane's dlc, and then he just showed up in the in game store only. I was able to get him and half his outfits without spending a dime. When normally i would've bought the chapter without even looking at the price lol
