Unpopular opinion, The Hillbilly feels nice to play!
Since they gutted Billy's addons I heard a lot of people say that he fells really horrible to play as, I tried him out and it wasn't that bad!, I got some cross maps with the chainsaw and traversing the map was a blast. The addons are very limited and usually they are more of a downgrade
(The iris don't have downgrades but hey are very substantial) I wish they fixed the addon problem but other than that I didn't find the overheat that big of a problem
Comments
The animations are horrid. Overheats been made basically irrelevant in the important scenarios. The scream they literally added as a joke (and say its a sound que for nearby survivors) And if you want true value from his addons you run double engravings. To each his own. Billy needs a good bit of work. He was fluid and had fine drawbacks on release. They just went so overboard. But hopefully thats why hes getting changes. Like revealed in the AMA.
Overheat is mostly fine, although it's exactly as I said on the PTB. It has no reason to exist anymore. If we don't use it to limit him in camping, which is no longer the case, then why does it exist at all?
Other than that Hillbilly does not feel 'nice to play'. You bump into things you can't see, miss survivors that are centre screen, get crouch teched, have half of your screen covered by the chainsaw, feel clunky when you stop the chainsaw instead of bumping, have 3 good addons, some ok-ish addons and quite a lot useless addons and need to play incredibly precise to get somewhat decent results. Then there is also the problem with maps, that limit his mobility and curving potential (good luck curving a circle or square) and his animations that just feel uncomfortable.
And this is coming from someone that has played Billy for hundreds of hours. He is fun but 'nice to play' aren't the words I'd use for him. He needs some quality of life improvements. Well, at least we know that something is going to happen in regards to the killer's FOV. So that is a big improvement.
I have a love/hate-relationship with Billy. I used to play him all the time before they butchered his animations. This was even before they nerfed him. But ever since then, I have the same loop - I play Billy and hate it. Then I get a daily or have a challenge where playing Billy is nice, so I play him and have a lot of fun. Until a few games later and I hate Billy again.
Overheat is not really a problem and was not a problem (since it left the PTB). If you missed your Chainsaws a lot and were really overambitious, you could Overheat, but that is on the player. Nowadays Overheat does exactly nothing. They can remove it at this point, because it has no purpose at all. Before the purpose was also questionable considering that it was so lenient, but nowadays there is no purpose.
When it comes to Add Ons, I think they are more on the weak site, but I dont really know what to do with Billy Add Ons. Because honestly, he should not have Chargetime or Cooldown Add Ons, those were really way too strong back in the day.
But I have to say, my main problem with him are still his hitboxes and his FoV. I run Shadowborn, this helps a lot with the FoV, but I did not need to run Shadowborn before they changed his animations. But nowadays, I feel it is a must to have a decent FoV with Billy. And you still bump into stuff you cannot see.
And when it comes to Hitboxes - his Chainsaw Hitbox is comically huge, which is nice to hit with it, but it is not really needed. And it also causes you to bump into little twigs and other stuff.
But they announced they will take a look at Billy, so I am curious what they do.
For me, Bubba is better overall in chase and camping then him, he has better add-ons and he is much easier to play while having better chase power. He is not as punishing as Billy and he is not as hard as him either.
@Chocolate_Cosmos
True, Bubba is much easier and a lot of fun, I still prefer billy because of his speed and gameplay but I played Bubba a few times and he feels pretty nice to play as.
A shame that we are loosing his license
That first part sums it up perfectly. Billy is a fun killer but a few matches in and you hate him. Then you go for a while without playing him and you wonder why you hated him that much. So you give him another chance and the cycle repeats. You love to hate to him and hate love him.
It's also sad that they removed Skybilly. This makes him even more clunky to play on certain maps because you bump in the air. I get it with main buildings but even some hills have these invisible walls.
@Simfeliz Really?, I thought they were losing the license because of the new "Texas chainsaw massacre" game but if he is staying then why did I get him for free?, Seriously I woke up one day booted up my ps5 and found out that Bubba was in my roster.
I won't complain but it's weird nonetheless
@Simfeliz Thanks for letting me know appreciate it
He needs to be able to turn faster speed is ok but mobility is sn issue
It used to be a big problem but they mostly made it irrelevant by heat building fast during sprint cooling on release of power. Slower build up of heat while reving
If you "tried them out" (presumably for the first time), then yea, they will feel good because MMR is probably (but not always) going to pair you against Survivors who dont know how to deal with Billy.
When you face competent Survivors, Billy can feel awful to play without at least Engravings or Lo-Pro, since pre-dropping is way too common and loops are often way too safe with base Chain Sprint speed.
It does not help that the cooldown for hitting an object is horrendous combined with awful map collisions (god I hate Eyrie of Crows with a passion, even after the rework). It can be rather punishing to learn the power, and even then, experienced players still deal with it every now and then.
But as a Billy main, I hope it isnt too much of a turn off. There is a lot going for Billy. And a lot going against Billy. But the potential to do insanely cool and/or fun things is there, so I hope you enjoy them!
Did you play classic Hillbilly? If you did the I don't understand how you can think current Billy feels good
However if you never played old Billy then it makes perfect sense why you think current Billy feels good.
@ThatRedPyramidThing I didn't play old billy, In fact that's what most of my friends say "Billy is not what he used to..."
But I'd say that from the point of view of someone who didn't play old Billy he feels nice
Just curious because I haven't seen someone say that Billy feels nice to play.
Do you play flick / curve Billy or are you more of a casual enjoyer of his kit without going too much into the depths? No shame in either of them but as you said it is a rather unpopular opinion. So I would like to hear it.
Billy was my favorite. Until they nerfed him.
I played all of the variations of Billy, curve, quiet, insta saw...
I liked em all. The only one that needed to go was insta saw.
I still play Billy and he can still be fun. But he can't hold a candle to the fun of old Billy. Billy did not need the nerf.I just wish they'd take off overheat.
@Xernoton I don't go to deep into Billy's addons but I do enjoy some curve Billy from time to time
Honestly, me too. The overheat doesn't really serve a purpose anymore. It only nerfs Driftking Billy, which is too bad because it was pretty fun. I never got the chance to play old Billy but even then the current version is quite infuriating from time to time. Maps were not designed with this killer in mind. Which is a shame because he is one of the original killers.
The worst thing is that he was replaced even on the official DBD artwork. By Hag! And Hag is hated by a good portion of survivor players. It just feels so disrespectful to a killer that is widely agreed on as fun for both sides.
Well, BHVR said they'd show him so love so here is hoping!
The addons were less what interested me and more how you play him. But if you do play curve Billy and do not get frustrated, then you have my respect. I still turn a thousand shades of red when I bump into things I can't see. After hundreds of hours on this killer.
I mean if you catch people out in the open and only use his power to traverse the map it feels nice. But as soon as you try to curve on any new map some sort of collision will ######### you.
Billy need tweaks for his bump recovery and turning so he can actually manuver around the new maps.
There are so many small obstacles that he bumps on, at the very least it shouldn't punish you as heavily for bumping. That makes him really unpleasant to play, otherwise I agree he is fun.
