Balance around high ranks and force low rank survivors to get good.

With the amount of safe pallets and windows on most maps, I think it's pretty obvious that this game is balanced around lower ranks. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say it's balanced around rank 10 (late season). What separates low rank survivors from high rank survivors is that low rank survivors do not conserve pallets. For instance, low rank survivors will often times throw down a pallet right after being hit. At high ranks, the survivors will save the pallet and simply take the free sprint burst and run to another loop. Low rank survivors will also throw down pallets for the sake of stunning the killer, even though they could have looped it. In order to account for the fact that low rank survivors don't conserve pallets, the devs have added more safe pallets than there should be, when you factor in windows as well.

The problem is, this completely breaks red ranks for most killers not named Nurse, Spirit, and maybe Billy. I get that most survivors are green and yellow ranks and it makes financial sense to balance around them, but from an ethical point of view, I think it's bad to coddle lower skilled players for the sake of profits. At the end of the day, Behaviour Interactive is a business and the goal of a business is to make money. What BHVR is doing is not illegal, but I think it's unethical.

You're just wrong. Name one game that has a ranking system that doesn't balance towards the high ranks? LoL does it, Overwatch does it, Heroes does it, most people will balance towards it, as they should, and people should know that you have too learn too get better, not just whine and cry and get what they want because they don't know how too conserve pallets.

Those games balance and they keep balancing all the time - it never ends...which means they never really reach balance, they just get something in the general area. Same here. Devs have their stats, they have their player input, they are making calls on what is an impossible task trying to hit a moving target, but they are trying.

  • The issue with the whole discussion on balance is we're not dealing with a generally-accepted meaning of what 'balance' is supposed to be.

Frequent call-backs to the devs saying they consider it a certain result of 2:2 in escapes and kills is unhelpful, because the devs never explained what they actually meant and understandably haven't done since because for anyone statistically-numerate, this is meaningless in a game with ranks and match-making. The match-making + ranking will always bias the median average of escapes/kills towards 50/50, regardless of how unfair the game might actually be. We don't know if the devs were talking about the median average in the first place though.

  • i used to be able play 10 hours a day without break or even more sometimes , now i get max 3 matches and already feel kinda meh playing killer , same tbh as survivor doing generators is also boring . i wish there was sth like in friday 13 where there are many means of escape and they arent boring ,

  • If 2k was a tie then it wouldn’t be a depip.

Well yea, you will never achieve true balance, but when only 3 killers are viable in red ranks, there is a problem.

  • Hey OP

    I agree with you.

  • This is literally the only multiplayer PvP game that I know that isn't balanced around high ranks. Even Evolve or F13 are more balanced around high ranks than this

  • The majority are lower ranks that DC. good luck forcing new people to git gud when they already struggle to complete matches consistently as it is.

  • @BunnyTheHutt Actually League balances around mid ranks, because very few players are in high ranks. I'm not sure about the others you mentioned(People on League still say that they balance around high ranks when they do not). The goal of a game is to balance around the average joe, but make it so that broken high rank stuff is balanced. They hit problems in every rank, depending on how bad it is.

This is not an eSports game.

I repeat, this is not an eSports game.

This is, however, a competitive game. There for it would be wise to listen to the people who understand how to play the game competitively.

  • Are there any people who think it would be fair and a good state for any game if one player had an significant advantage over their opponent, making skill not the deciding factor who is winning?
