Map voting

I think adding map voting would be a pretty cool feature for DBD.

Before the match starts, survivors and the killer could each get a few random maps to vote from, and whichever map gets the most votes is the one you play on. I think it would make matches feel a bit less random and give players some more choice without letting them just pick whatever map they want every game.

It could also make things more interesting because you’d actually have to think about which map would be better for your build or killer.

Obviously there would need to be some limits so people can’t constantly force the same map, but I think a simple map voting system could work really well.

  • This is an asymm.

There’s 4 of the same interest, versus 1 with the other.

Unless the Killer’s choice weighs heavier, survivors will always win if they unite

  • this just reminds me of how, before map offerings were nerfed to the ground, survivors would use 1 or 2 map offerings for blatantly survivor sided maps and killers would simply be stuck on the same map on repeat every game.

Was just thinking that. Maps that are killer sided would literally NEVER get selected. The devs probably dont wanna get put in a spot where they spend time and resources making a map, just for its usage rate to be 0.

what if it worked like this? after the countdown but before the match each survivor gets 3 random maps and they have to choose one, after the survivors choose the one they want the killer has to choose one of the 4 maps the survs chose?

    Killers choice should weigh heavier.

Alternatively extra votes for a map give no boosted chance.

Thats the thing why it would not work. Either the Survivors will have a higher chance of getting their maps or if the Killers choice is weighted more, then the Killer will basically always get their map.

Either way it is bad and therefore should not be implemented.

But that's what I'm talking about as an alternative to potentially make it work.

Say all the survivors picked the same map - it wouldn't stack. It would only count as 1 vote. However if they voted for different maps, they would count. In this scenario the killers vote has no extra weight.

In order to make sure that it isn't too unfair, the map pool should only consist of about 6 maps.

I dunno if this still favours the survivors side but at least there's a level of control

I mean, if Survivors would still be able to vote for 4 different Maps and those 4 Maps each have the same chance to be picked like the Killer Map, this would still mean that the Killer would have a much smaller chance to get their map. Because there are 4 maps to choose from for Survivors and only 1 for Killer.

Limiting the Map Pool for this would also cause some problems, since it might lead to Lobbydodging. If you can vote for one out of 6 maps, but none of the maps is a map you like, you can just dodge the Lobby. And since this increases wait times and can interfere with Matchmaking, it is not really something which should be done.

What he thinks would only work if each side could vote for banning one map (1 will survivors with the one that got most votes or when all do different map then it will be random and 1 for killers vote). Like in seige banning operators/characters because as you say that means survivors ban more or if it would be just 1 map they would easily win 4 vs 1 in voting where every vote weights same isnt great thats like democracy in USSR in 1950s.
