Is Reassurance obsolete?

I remember when the perk first came out it was relatively common that at least one person had it and you could get great value from it and it was definitely a meta perk. However since then we've gotten the anticamp meter and the hook stage timer has increased to 70 seconds.

This begs the question does Reassurance have any value left in it or has time and changes left it behind? Best I can think of it's more of an end game perk now when the anticamp is turned off but that's a bit niche and No One Left Behind is probably better for end game unhooking situations.

Given the anti camp meter it doesn't really help all that much.

it's certainly helpful for wasting the killers time if they're trying to proxy camp.

But it's a very one trick perk. If the killer doesn't try to camp then it does absolutely nothing. Plus with all the traversal killers nowadays proxy camping isn't generally necessary since a lot of killers can rotate back to the hook so quickly.

Bit of a dead perk nowadays.

  • it's impossible to coordinate because you reassurance somebody and other people won't realize or care.

I wanted to make reassurance+ plot twist work but it's impossible in solo

  • They could at least make the activation area larger or make it so that you could activate it on survivor on hook anywhere in the map but like once per survivor or something like that.

  • Reassurance is crazy strong, it just requires a modicum of coordination to make it work. With Reassurance someone can be on the hook for a total 100 seconds per hook stage after the basekit increase to hook timers. That's a huge amount of time for Survivors to heal, do gens/open exit gates/cleanse hexes etc while the Killer doesn't get the opportunity to tunnel out the (un)hooked Survivor. Add on to that the basekit Borrowed Time improvement, the anticamp meter and the proliferation of very strong perks that activate on unhook like Resurgence, DS, DH etc and it can make a Killer's life miserable if used properly, since the time pressure on rescuing a hooked Survivor is so greatly reduced, as is the vulnerability of a Survivor with added hook stages. The only risk with it is that if your teammates don't know you have it, they might rush a save and/or exchange with the hooked Survivor when they didn't need to, but now you can check your team's perks in-game and avoid that problem entirely. I actually think Reassurance should get a nerf because of how many protections hooked Survivors get by default now.

  • I don't use it much anymore. Not because it isn't good, it's still a good perk for combating camping but rather because half the time when I do use it my solo queue teammate will just unhook them near the killer anyway lol.

But also I agree that certain changes over time have slightly reduced its value. Hook stages last longer than they used to, there are more mobility killers now who can proxy camp pretty effectively without staying near the hook as much and the anti-camp has been buffed so there just aren't as many situations where the extra 30 seconds is needed anymore. I think it still has value in SWFs but in solos I usually don't bother with it.

  • It's more worth it to probably run Shoulder the burden or anti-tunnel instead I feel.

  • THis tends to happen when you get alot of basekit benifits added. Borrowed time was very META back in the day too, but since you dont have the risk of being downed right after touching the ground anymore, its usage dropped.

I kinda miss the basekit BT only being like 5 seconds i had a bit of fun with it after its golden age because killers stopped playing around it entirely...seeing Slingers count to 5 was hilarious. Now I genuinely don't see the point:(

  • I don't think Reassurance was ever that strong, and I tried a lot to make it work.

Mainly, even under the old system, it didn't actually help.

If the survivors were coordinated/focused, the killer face camped, and the survivor on hook was fine making all the saves and sitting there for two minutes, that was enough time for three coordinated survivors to do nothing but gens and the gates and leave (because its not like the survivor went down instantly).

If the survivors weren't coordinated/focused, or the hooked survivor just goes down instantly, it just doesn't matter much.

If you were worried about the situation, you could just run a perk to help you do gens more quickly, which would also be beneficial in other trials were the killer didn't facecamp.

  • It was never particularly strong outside of a coordinated SWF, just overhyped by some killers who threw the game camping.

  • Reassurance is still a great perk. Regardless of hook timers and the camp meter you're still giving somebody an extra 30 seconds per stage on the hook at the end of the day. That's quite a lot of time in the grand scheme of a match and should never be sat on. Solo or not, it's best value is in it's consistence because it doesn't matter the situation if you still activate it your teammate is getting extra time regardless.

  • I still often get value out of it being a Rebecca main. Its most commonly used when you go for an unhook but killers are proxy camping or chasing you to the hook, so you get to use Reassurance when running by the hook forcing the killer to chase you so someone else can get the unhook safely. It also can save lives rarely when trying to run for an unhook where the hooked survivor is about to die before you can reach them as it can pause the timer for that 1 extra second it wouldve taken you to reach them.

  • To be honest, yeah. If they just brought back the old version where you could reassure someone multiple times it'd be strong enough to solve camping and tunneling maybe forever without being too powerful. Sadly the devs changed that.

  • Reassurance itself helped me so many times prevent someone going second stage but I run it extremely rarely because it's the type of perk where you never know whether you will get any value of it. It's fun on maps like Midwich or Game where you can activate it from different floor.

  • It's a great perk if you are a coordinated team and one person brings it. Definitly up there for coordinated play, but not that great in soloq.
