Feedback from a Veteran Player regarding balance changes and Updates

Releasing new chapters with zero balance changes causes immediate burnout for veteran players, whereas consistent, safe tweaks keep the community engaged and the game fresh and balanced.

As a veteran player, I can confidently say that the game desperately needs consistent balance adjustments to keep the gameplay fresh and healthy. For long-term players, major live design updates and game health are more important than just receiving new content.

To achieve this, I suggest the following approach for your patch cadence:

  • Routine Patches & Content Releases: Focus on minor numerical tweaks for killers and perks, alongside universally welcomed Quality-of-Life (QoL) features. These are safe, non-controversial updates that the community agrees the game needs, and they should accompany every new content release to prevent the meta from feeling stagnant.
  • Mid-Chapter Updates: Reserve core, game-changing design overhauls (like the recent anti-tunneling/slugging changes in the Krasue PTB) exclusively for mid-chapters.

Please BHVR do something about that...

  • Yeah idk how difficult it is to look at least used perks and just number buff them. If dark devotion already has 45 seconds in the code. Is it that difficult to go in and make it 50 for instance? I would think thats very easy to do 1 person could even do it. Like the doctor shock thing wasnt even much of a animation change we talking 0.05 so lol. If they even just did that id be happy. And they get 3 months to do this. It just feels like miss management if they cant have someone at least number tweaking.

It's not a difficult thing to do, but to play devil's advocate there have been times small numbers buffs have backfired, like in Hex: Thrill of the Hunt's case. And the Doctor thing was the inverse, people got mad that they were such conservative numbers changes.

I still agree and think they should do small numbers changes, but there are more risks to doing it than just the technical side, which is obviously dirt easy with just changing variables.

Anyway as for the OP, I do agree. For experienced players, balance updates ARE content patches! If a Perk is so obviously bad I've never even tried using it or barely ever see it in games, a buff that makes it usable is essentially adding new content to the game.

If BHVR was doing more frequent patches where they pushed some number changes, then the accidental overbuff situation wouldn't be a problem. Because then BHVR would just nerf it a week or two later. With constant number adjustments, the game would hopefully feel less stale because we might actually see the meta changed from the same perks that have been in the game for years now.

Yeah they can even make some balance adjustments on bug fix patches every 1-2 weeks instead of waiting 8-12 weeks...

173 survivor perks, 145 killer perks.

Maps' sizes/layouts that differ way too much from one another.

Killers that range from trash tier to OP tier.

That's the answer, game is impossible to balance now without a complete overhaul.

  • When they said they were removing balance updates when it comes to chapters, i think they intend to do it in between chapters more frequently maybe? I doubt the intention was to never do anymore balance updates. Just not during chapter releases so they can focus more on the bugs and balancing each new chapter brings, while balancing and fixing the rest of the game on the side. Not disagreeing with the post just wondering if they will clarify when they intend to do balance changes/updates.

  • Except for the ST2 you truly feel like nothing happened in a years.
