DeadByDaylight is Now Inarguably Pay To Win

I own all the DLC so this isn't really something I give a hoot about but the game is 100% without a doubt pay to win. Especially so with Reassurance being a 100% effective counter to camping.

The game has always been pay to win, but with the current state of the meta there are hardly any perks at all that you don't have to pay for.

inb4: shrine of secrets blah blah blah, iridescent shards, blah blah blah

New perks can take upwards of a year (if not longer) to show up in the shrine of secrets. That is de facto pay to win. Iridescent shards are fair for original killers, but if recent rumors are true we are going to be getting quite many licensed DLCs in the future. There are plenty of good perks that are on licensed killers too and having to wait upwards of a year to obtain their perks (in a game you already paid for) does not make it any less pay to win.

Couple this with the fact that the grind reduction did not reduce the grind at all (and at the same time actually made it feel worse by removing BBQ and WGLF) while I think this new chapter is great, there is still plenty more work for BHVR to do.

  • Killers have had to deal with this problem for a long time btw

Not saying your argument isn't valid but think about it - a lot of strong killer perks were locked behind DLC whereas most of the survivor meta perks were always free for new players

Like Corrupt, Pop, Ruin etc - old staples.

  • People are actually going to run that perk? Does nothing if a killer doesn't camp, seems like a wasted perk slot for a "they might camp"

  • i'm genuinly confused as to why this is only now coming to people's attention. DBD has been clearly pay2win the second they added their very first paid dlc chapter. Even if what they're doing is wrong under this context, it's a little too late to complain about pay2win after all this time has passed...

Ive seen threads saying it's p2w plenty of times over the years but the devs always say it's not because of the shrine. But with reassurance dropping and it being THE answer to camping it's just super exemplified that the game is indeed p2w.

For solo queue it will be a blessing. You also have to consider how useful it will be in endgame alone. If I am a killer I ALWAYS camp in endgame because its the best way to snowball at that point.

Fair enough, tbh there's no reason not to camp in end game, but also there's no real point in attempting the saves either w/ OTR/DS being disabled during end game and people mostly relying on base kit BT to save the hooked person, may as well just leave.

  • Shrine could definitely use some major improvements.

wow thats great bud but guess how many perks there are in the game (its more than 15)

And guess how many of those other 100 perks that weren't in that list people consider really powerful.

Though TBF on the pay to win front, the strongest killer is free.

    Bubba is not free, fam.

I mean apparently every single killer always tunnels and camps every single game according to the forums, so apparently no other perk guarantees more value.

  • Camping causes you to lose anyway most of the time if anything this actually forces you to get some skill instead of standing there staring at someone on the hook, if camping is your main skill as a killer and ruins the game that a perk counters it, that says alot about your skill level

IMO the shrine is pretty outdated considering the number of killers and survivors, no disagreement there. I’d like to see a much larger selection or an entirely different mechanism.

The shrine needs a complete rework.

    1) No more "free perks" in the shrine. Only DLC perks should be in the shrine. Nobody should be unlocking sprint burst with the shrine for 2,000+4,000+6,000 shards because they did not prestige Meg yet.

    2) Remove the lock out for new perks in the shrine - make it 100% random among all DLC perks. Once a perk has been in the shrine keep it out of the shrine until all the DLC has been available.

I swear to god whatever devs add to the game, even by mistake the community... always finds an issue. I'd laugh just to see how not a single dev even though of this "camping issue" before people started to speak about it.

    So much creative restrictions like you see here, is not anywhere else. "pay to win" surely;

    This is outrageous, honestly.

Its funny because all of those words you just typed have literally zero substance. That isn't an argument, its just scoffing.

Opening an argument is not the way to go. You only want to find issue within the game, I only observed this detail and exposed it.

That being said, I will land off of this thread. Great day sir!

That would be fine if this was not a free to play game just trying to make money somehow. Oh, wait a minute...

Yeah not only is the game pay to play, its (slightly) pay to win, it also has a Battle Pass, and COSMETICS OUT THE ASS!! On top of new chapters every 3 months the game is being milked 1000 different ways yet half the Gamers on here are presenting their nipples getting ready for more.

When MOBA's get too many characters, their free selection doubles.

DBD needs to upgrade to an 8 perk Shrine.

Giving everyone access to the perks is a reasonable request. Nobody is asking to be able to buy the new killers/survivors with shards.

So you admit the game is pay to win for about a year til the perks show up in the shrine? A year of dbd is 4 chapters.

Also, out of 100 weeks how many do you expect the perk Reassurance to show up. Maybe 2? You have to be online and near your computer to even reap the benefit of the shrine.

  • @itsPina said:

@H2H while thats true there is the entire survivor side of the game where perks are all that matter.

People with Reassurance are going to win more against campers than those without. People who paid will win more than those that didn't. Pay2Win!

You have to be pretty dang close to the survivor who's hooked, like if the killer doesn't realize something is up and you're hiding near by...idk how you're getting away with it

End game scenarios or basement scenarios. 99 your sprint burst before you run in and the killer can't even catch you without abandoning the camp.

So who will win more in the year before these perks start showing up on the shrine? The person who paid for it LITERALLY has an advantage.

Do you hear yourself? Sounds very situational to me

  • Dbd pay 2 win is more like pay for convenience, even if you do straight up buy the characters and perks you still need to grind them with bp. But any new players not gonna spend months grinding this game as a f2p at this point, there are too many perks and bloodpoint gains are so little without bbq and stacking event bp offerings. But yeah there is no real way for someone to have max everything without spending some real money. The grind is too long for f2p players and the grind will get longer with each chapter

  • Literally every survivor on Reddit and the forums have been complaining about camping since the mid chapter update.

None of that even matters since it doesn't change the fact that the game is p2w when it comes to perks. Everyone things Reassurance is good, I really don't care what you have to say about it since this thread isn't arguing about how good Reassurance is.
