Is it just me or are even more killers hellbent on slugging excessively for 4k?

I honestly think there wasn't a single match over the course of the past 50+ matches where a killer didn't slug to ensure there's not even the slightest chance for the last survivor to get hatch. So many games have been dragged out as a slug game for five minutes and more and while in principle it's a valid strategy to slug for 4k the frequency and ... dedication to this kind of excessive slug gaming is.... baffling.

Anyone else having the same experience or am I just having weird killers the past few days?

  • In response to the various "hatch is free" - it still isn't.

It is the game mechanic to account for the game being assymetrical: 4v1 is supposed to be belanced with both sides having a fighting chance. The more survivors are down the more it's in the killer's favour. It's a lost battle and when one survivor is left there are two options: have the game end by default or introduce a new game stage. That's hatch. An intended phase of the game. Just like EGC is. The difference between survivors refusing to open doors and killers refusing to hook someone is that a killer can trigger egc while survivors can't trigger hatch. (And yes, intentionally leaving the last gen 99d for a prolonged period of time is imo comparable- but it's also something I only see squads do that are bullying anyways or when a killer is afk/farming. Maybe that is just me though, so I ask: do you see people do that all the time?)

To those that do it as a reaction to tbags and stuff - I understand your frustration but two wrongs don't make a right. I too resist the urge to get myself a flashlight and join the clicky clicky tbag crowd whenever I outplay a killer and continue to do the 3k+hatch thing regardless of how a survivor reacts to it. Because how is being mean to Killer/Survivor B doing anything about the fact that Killer/Survivor A was mean to me? Except for fulfilling a rather primal desire for revenge by projecting it on someone else.

Its exactly what should happen. If a team throws themselves to the killer to prevent them from sacrificing 1 guy, the team should lose.

Except of course they are smart about it and just take 1 hit, get right out of there, heal and continue what they were doing. That should win pretty much every time. But we both know that wasnt your team mates.

They did exactly what they should do. They all took a hit each. Due to sloppy butcher, they couldn't heal up in time, and it being Pyramid Head who was refusing to cage, I got mori'd. My team got slugged one after the other.

This is one of those instances where the killer played bad and was rewarded for it.

  • Last week yes, this week not as much. But whenever I notice this trend I just hop on as killer and play the type of killer I'd like to face 😂 e.g. don't camp/tunnel at 5 gens, don't slug, and give the last person hatch. I'll even put on BPS when I don't see 3 flashies :)

I had a game at Autohaven once. I hooked a survivor and chased the other one to the workshop. He was locked inside, between me, car and pallet. I was trying to mindgame him, but the other person died and the hatch spawned under his feet.

Tell me how it wasn't free.

It doesn't happen every time, but hatch is not a separate phase - its just a random escape chance for survivor. If killers gets the hatch first - he still gets absolutely nothing, survivor can still escape through the gate. So its a random second chance, and then survivor gets another random second chance. This is what feels wrong for killers about the hatch.

  • Everyone seems to be missing the concept of hope in gaming. Hope is a great motivator and incentive to keep going; otherwise, The Killer would idle or DC if five powered generators signified guaranteed escapes. Likewise, Survivors would similarly relent if something cemented the match's outcome. To a more considerable extent, the Hatch is what motivates Survivors to keep going at specific points where it is usually hopeless to expect completing all five gens and opening a gate. The fact that completing generators doesn't guarantee escape is what compels The Killer to keep going until the very end. Hope is powerful.

EGC kill doesn't happen unless survivors intentionally give it to killers, pretty similar to hatches eh?

Nope, most of the time, it has to do with RNG. The Killer has a much easier job locating the Hatch than a Survivor. And can often observe both gates with great ease. So The Killer doesn't even have to pursue a chase; he only has to guard the gates to get that kill.

To add to that, similiarily to "killers slugging to deny hatch", survivors are also "99ing gates to deny the EGC". Yet the former is frowned upon while latter is totally acccepted by everyone.

The EGC begins precisely when it does; 99ing the gates delays the initiation of the EGC but doesn't circumvent it. However, The Killer is free to start the process if they wish.

What about the free-ness of getting full kill credit for never hooking a Survivor during EGC? If that Survivor doesn't locate the Hatch in time and depending on The Killer, perks, and RNG of doors, that kill is a gift. The Killer does not need to chase and hook to get a kill. They become gate guardians.

Why didn't the survivor go for one of the exits? There's no reason for them to die to the entity except for not committing to an exit. If they do, then the killer does have to chase, down, and hook them. You're basing this off the survivor not going for the gates and just wanting to die.

You can't open an exit gate until the hatch is closed.

You can't just make unbreakable basekit and expect everything to be ok.

well i guess the survivor is meant to just give up right XD the one on the floor has no choice

Yes. That's the point. Killer closes the free escape hatch, and then they have to deal with the free escape exits, unless they're both within a stone's throw of each other. The survivor can get a gate to 25% or so, which stops the first red light from coming on, the killer checks it and assumes the survivor isn't there because the light's off, so they leave, and then the survivor finishes the gate and runs out. There's exceptions like Dredge and Blight who can guard exits better, but at a base level, it's the survivor's game to lose.

EGC heavily favors The Killer. There's no question about it. The free hatch escape you seem to disdain is part of the game, it serves an important purpose. There are a lot more killers who are really effective at gate guarding. It's the opposite, it's the killer's game to lose.

How is giving survivors a second and third chance to escape killer favored? If those weren't there to begin with, there wouldn't even be a discussion of if endgame is killer or survivor favored. The survivors failed to complete the gens, they're all dead an blown up, but because there's 1 remaining, he gets multiple free chances to escape. I don't even need to explain how it destroys the team dynamic and encourages selfishness.

Slugging for 4K is about the same mentality as waiting at the exit gate to teabag the killer.

I don't get it or why anyone would waste that time.

Just race them to the hatch, it's in the killers favour anyway.

Are you joking? The 4k slug gives you more points. Tbagging at the exit gates is literally just to be a punk and rub your escape into the killer's face. They are not even in the same league as one another.

  • "Slugging excessively"

LOL. I love how the wording of this implies there is a "just right" amount of slugging. Not too little, not too much!
