Did BHVR scrap out the map elevation plans?

I believe they talked about it in the 5th anniversary broadcast.

The lead level artist said something among the lines the current dbd maps are mostly flat and they're looking to change that.

What makes me believe they scrapped that is that they released a killer like the Artist that has her power hard countered by any kind of map elevation and multiple levels maps.

Can anyone confirm if this is still happening or its scrapped for good?

  • Most likely they have, yes. It's not the first time they have mentioned something, and then scrapped it.

Probably was too much work for them. Plus, there are more important changes to the game that still haven't been done, despite being asked YEARS for them. Like Solo queue QOL changes and a definite fix to the insane grind that the game has.

  • Use me as bring back the old fog button

  • Not scrapped, no. This is something that is applied to maps going forward- where possible, of course. Both the new maps since that anniversary stream have had a lot more verticality than before. The Racoon City Police Station is 2(ish) floors throughout the entire map, and the Eyrie of Crows has a lot of verticality to the main building as well as some rougher terrain outside, with some tiles that sink into the terrain in addition to the usual hills.

It's something that's progressively being thought about on a case by case basis as maps are being worked on, not a sweeping change that's going to be added to every map any time soon.

Thanks for the clarification,in my head,I thought the maps will be more like Swamp, more bumps and hills of different ground levels and I was thinking even something such as hillsides.

Glad to see that's not scrapped since I really liked the ideea,it gives the game a total different feel knowing a map is not entirely flat.

And RPD is one of. If not THE most hated maps. I wonder if theres a correlation 🤔

I think what everyone hates so much about RPD is the size, the fact it can get so confusing in a chase.

And totem spawns, hexes and boons can be absolutely broken on that map.

Some killers rendered useless and some overpowered.

Tho I do like maps where stealth killers can be stealthy.

If you could add something vertical to maps like Shelter Woods that would be awesome for all those "fall from great height" challenges.

  • I think Boons have ruined this more than Artist did tbh.

Verticality favors survivors more now for the most part.

s[eaking of maps is the Swamp maps going to get a rework soon?

RPD is also one of the most loved maps as well, so...

  • I've never played RE but RPD stands out as a unique map with it's own rules, play styles and meta.

If a survivor is adamantly "loop only" or "stealth only" then yeah you'll have a terrible time here.

    It's just refreshing.

  • All they had to do with RPD was split it into 2 maps. The actual building with a smaller upper floor. No library BS, and the other being the city streets with maybe an open alley or 2 where you can even see the front or back of the RPD building.

Glad to hear that with the upcoming nerfs to dead hard people might actually consider other exhaustion perks.

  • I really like RPD. And i hope they do more indoor maps as well.

As said - it is refreshing. I also like the forest and would love more weather effects.

I always wanted something like a river or a real swamp, that would slow down the survivors or killers when inside, more water overall.

What happened to the automatic ban idea? Yall realize that's an awful idea for very obvious reasons?
