Lack of knowledge between connection error and quitting

once in a while a connection error removes me from the game at the start of a match and it hurts so much to lose out on your add ons, item or pudding/cake just because despite showing an error message the game can't differentiate between connection issues and rage quits.

  • Yes, how should the game know?

You could just pull the plug.

  • You are correct that the game does not distinguish between someone deliberately disconnecting and someone who intentionally does it and that's because it would be very easy to abuse if it did. Therefore there is no other option but to treat disconnects all the same way, which includes the disconnection penalty as well.

You gotta see that a player being punished for something out of their control is quite cruel to them

  • It would be easy to abuse if it did detect the difference because you could just pull the plug.

Also, if your internet drops out frequently enough that you're getting long disconnect penalties, it means you're out there ruining games regularly for your teammates and the killer, so you're as much of a pain to have in the team as someone who rage quits.

  • If the connection to you is suddenly lost - how should you know what happened?

The game or anything can´t technically detect why the connection to you is lost.

This happens to me only after long loading screens, maybe once every 200+ games

If it's once in 200 games you'd only have a 5 min penalty at most, which isn't worth the effort to complain about.

  • If the game can detect your ping, it can obviously detect a real internet issue vs just someone just leaving the match via the menu.

There was literally an internet outage last night in my area during my last game. The game froze and then I received an internet error message in game. I just logged back into the game today now that the internet in my area is restored, and queued for a game with no penalty. That's good because I shouldn't be penalized for losing my internet connection midgame. I can understand a 5 minute wait. Heck, I had to wait all night and morning to have my internet fixed so no big deal.

But what I'm trying to say is there is a huge difference between lost connection and the usual rage quit by leaving the game via options menu. Leaving the game should be penalized, not lost connection.

  • too abusable, there is multiple easily accessible tools to kill your connection, some ISP even give you the tool as soon as they set up your internet.

Didnt think of that... But I guess as long as players aren't being banned for lost connection/shutting off your own internet for lack of emotional management and immaturity issues. Thats my only concern, because it really can't discern the two.
