Killer grades matter? Or no?

If killer grade doesn't represent skill, then someone explain why depipping from bad matches lowers the grade. Lmao.

Your grade goes and down depending on pips not time played. So how is this not skill based?

I play pig on Badham, I lose. (Obviously it's pig on Badham) I get punished for losing by depipping and my grade drops.

I don't take the pip system seriously. You get thrown in impossible situations and depip over something that you can't control yet.... if I play gross and slug and bleed people out and 2k from it I pip up.

I scratch my head over how it all works and why. I'll never understand the ranking and point system in this game.

  • No grades matter.

  • The emblem/pip/rank/whatever you want to call it, has nothing to do with matchmaking at this point.

As far as the argument that it doesn't represent skill, so much as time, that comes down more to the law of averages and the way mmr does work. Basically with enough bad matches you can drop your mmr to potato level without significantly dropping rank. Then as you play more and win more, your rank goes up, but not because you got better, as much as because your opponents got worse. That means, If you suck, but put enough hours in, you can be an iri ranked killer in the tater fields.

    Lol. Tater fields

  • Grade doesnt matter, but it would be by far to easy to get to Iri1 if you wouldnt at least be able to depip from for bad games. You cant even degrade though.

  • I've managed to reach Iri rank 1 every month since SBMM was introduced, so no, you can be pretty bad at the game and still get there.

Never gotten past Iri rank 4 with survivor though. SoloQ is too chaotic to have 4-5 games without having utterly worthless matches. It matters slightly more there. Rank 1s are either actually good or do a lot of SWF.

  • It matters to how much bp you get every season.

  • Once you reach each new grade it’s locked in and you can’t go below it. So no, you don’t just “go up or down when you win or lose”, you go up when you win but you won’t go down if you lose when you are at the start of a grade. Therefore all you need to do is play long enough a session to get two or three good 2 pip games in a row and you will gain a grade and never lose it even if you play horribly the next few games.

So yes, Grades are mostly just an indication of how many games you’ve played that month. If you happen to win a lot you’ll gain grades more efficiently, but you will still gain them even if you’re just a typical player simply by random chance.
