I had an idea regarding the whole 99ing doors thing, tell me how bad or good it is

Alright, so, ECG is great for ending the game, but it wasn't actually intended to benefit the killers in any really meaningful way. The developers, or so I've heard from many people, have tested with and considered making the door open timers regress after a period, but didn't like it for many reasons that probably arise from a standoff situation between killer and 1 or 2 survivors with hatch closed, which, understandable.

Then, a thought I'm sure most everyone has probably had, on the train of thought that the killer can activate EGC, but it doesn't really benefit the killer when it SHOULD, is that opening one gate forces a maybe indefinite lock on the other, forcing situations of multiple survivors to come through you in order to have a chance at survival, granting the killer a maybe kill, allowing survivors to maybe heal and find NOED totem, giving them fair chance of survival. But, this has the drawback of if the hatch isn't open, it locks the survivors to go through and maybe get gat, where if there are only two survivors, its just rough when all they wanna do is live, and gives more advantage to the killer than they need, having killed half the people around (and what is in my opinion already a decisive victory), or where there are four survivors, if the killer played like bunk, then not getting any kills is just a result, and sneaking a kill just to be a stink about it isn't cool, when you lose, you lose, get over yourself.

sO, what I hope is a brand NEW idea, is the ability for the killer to rip open the hatch! Lets say for a minute, that you're a killer boi, running around, you got 4 survivors just jumpin and jivin, maybe one thats on a hook if youre lucky, and you walk to a door to see its at 99. Rough stuff. You've got two options at this point, either open the door and practically forfeit, run around to see if you're lucky enough to find someone, or get oofed, or NOT open the door and do the exact same thing, just to suffer the humiliation of not having an EGC timer until they get to the door and open it to do a twerk before they walk through.

But, what if there was a third option? a way to reset the doors' progress without it making a huge deal of it being an exploit at a lone or paired survivors' expense, but also giving the killer a fair way to yearn for at least one kill?

=+=[Skip to here if you just wanna see what my idea is]=+=

Our killer walks to some strange corner of the map, hoping (or maybe knowing) that the survivors wont make it to the door before they make it to a sneak place, and summon the hatch right where they stand, opening it forever, being unclosable either by every survivor jumping in or through the killer closing it again like a butt. The doors' power summoned from the chargers to create from nothing a new mystical exit, have their progress reset back to zero, forcing the survivors to come up with a plan. The killer can now guard one, maybe two exits, but now there are three available, and the killer has the EGC advantage. Exciting!

Now, are there a lot of problems with this idea, especially how its presented? Probably, but there are plenty of things that can be tweaked and nerfed to make sure there aren't any special scenarios that make it impossible for either side to have a chance. Maybe the hatch spawns at a random location within the tile, or the map, and the killer gets a loud noise notification of where it probably is ish, maybe the hatch spawning is affected by offerings if they apply. Maybe summoning the hatch only resets the progress of the door with the highest charge, or a random of the two. Maybe theres a fun visual thing of the energy rushing from the door exactly to where the hatch is, revealing its approximate location to anyone paying attention near a door.

And, in conjunction, it would also be nice if you could lock an opposite door by opening one, with the catch being an unclosable hatch opens at a random location in the map, allowing for anyone to escape through it, its location being completely unknown to the killer.

Now, this can have some problems too, ganking a 99 by opening the opposite door can be a real oof move on some people, and I know that plenty are bound to hate it, but it provides meaning and purpose to the killer opening a door almost certainly to concede, extending the game. Which, people may really not like the idea of the killer being able to prolong the game a while, which is understandable.

Also, small interlacable side tangent, I personally really dont like how closing the hatch results in an almost definitive game-over for the last survivor, with the exception being the rare chance the doors are SUPER far away from each other. It would be nice if closing the hatch took that escape potential energy that I was talking about before and sent it to each door, filling them to 50% to allow the survivor an escape if the killer isn't careful and observant.

And, on the topic of the doors being really really far away from each other being a big sad time for the killer, a nice game mechanic is that if the killer wants to lock a door to open another at the cost of a hatch, he can do so with the intent of having the luck to put the hatch closer than the other door, to have a chance at being a guardian man.

I hope all of this made sense, and I'm sorry its such and absolute BOOK of a query here, but I would love to hear what you think, and also any problems I haven't considered with this potentially being a thing.

I hard preesh all of anyone who reads the whole thing, I put a lot of work into this idea <3

yea but then if there’s just one survivor, and the hatch is closed, it’s literally impossible for killer to lose under any circumstances unless he does so on purpose

  • If The Killer decides to open the hatch to reset the gates, they should not be able to close the Hatch. The only concern is that Survivors may have an advantage with knowing where the Killer might be based on TR and having the Hatch Audio and the after-hit speed boost for non-Insta-down Killers.

If the Killer decides to open the Hatch, it should Expose all Survivors for a duration, and reset Exit Gate progress, perhaps even blocking Exit Gate progress. But the Killer will become unable to close The Hatch. It is a last-ditch effort to secure a down. Forcing end-game Hook play if it pays off, and the Survivors don't hide or run away during this time, but also making it much easier to escape if they don't manage to catch a Survivor during this time.

The only concern is where the Killer opens Hatch. If they're allowed to instantly open Hatch wherever, they could cheese it by running up to a Survivor and opening it in a slightly inaccessible location where they will be able to cut off that Survivor before they can escape. But if they have to move to a specific location, it makes it far too easy for Survivors to have map knowledge and stealth around where they open the Hatch.

    Basically:

If The Killer Opens the Hatch, they should know where nearby Survivors are, and all Survivor should be exposed, so those Survivors should run or hide.

The Killer should be locked into an animation of opening the Hatch for some duration so The Killer can't cheese right behind a Survivor.

The uncertainty is if the Killer controls where Hatch spawns or if they have to find it, and if Survivors will have any prior indication as to where it spawns.

That sounds more like an issue of gate spawns. Either way, if there's just one survivor left and the hatch is closed, the odds SHOULD be overwhelmingly in favor of the killer.

Yea, and that’s fair, but i just personally never really like the idea of a checkmate in games, where opponents have the option to concede and feel bad or try without chance of success and feel worse, you know?

Unless the survivor has a key of course.

  • well, yea, you got a point, but it’s unlikely for that to happen unless the survivor explicitly plans for it

Gotta admit, it might make keys more popular. 🤷‍♂️

Just make it so 3 players dead = lose for survivors and instakill last one then, this way there is no "checkmate" just losing and winning.
