Is DBD making NFTs?

Actor Doug Bradley returns to the role of Pinhead in one of the first generative NFT collections that grants in-game access.

I can across this news article and I have to know, is this real?

If it's real then that means Doug Bradley will voice pinhead and we're getting a Butterball legendary.

I'm hoping it's fake because NFTs are gross and because buttetball looks like a silhouette of the first butterball image I found online of the neca figure rather then an actual posed model. also chatterer and pinhead are at a resting position, not posed like butterball. All these images could be taken from online.

@GoodBoyKaru made a seperate thread talking about how some NFT place/thing is doing some kind of Hellraiser NFT tie in that they claim they did in collaboration with DBD

I have literally no idea what any of it means but people are theorising it's why the voicelines got removed since I think Doug Bradley was mentioned on the thing GoodboyKaru posted.

I'm still not seeing how that ties into the voice lines being removed, though.

Current going theory is that the license holders gave bhvr the finger and said that only people who own the nft will be able to use the licence alongside other benefits, all of which will be different from nft to nft to make them unique. This could include skins, voice lines, or whatever.

Edit: not to mention the nft company are basically doing loot boxes with which benefit you get.

Only thing that's weird about this whole voiceline debacle is

Chatterer is allowed to make sounds when he teleports, they are unique sound clips only he has

it's perplexing, I wish we could know what's going on with this whole voiceline thing

Chatterer also isn't voiced by Doug though, nor is he the face of the franchise.

Well it's probably a 3 way contract that includes Boss and Doug. Then if Behavior says "We don't want NFTs in our game" that was probably a breach of contract. Then it's a matter of how involved Doug was in that contract

They're making a digital trading card, which, since it'll be secured with contracts and that the "game-as-a-service" is actively managed and overseen, will actually force scarcity with no recourse for knockoffs.

The money is about the second least environmentally friendly thing humanity can do right now next to detonating several nuclear weapons but facktirng that in you've got the gist yes

Oh wait it isn't a product its a receipt saying you have the product but most of the time you don't actually get the product.

Nuclear initiations don't do anything to the environment. We have initiated over 2,000 nuclear weapons in the last 70 years. It is had basically no impact what so ever.

    no, this is not okay.

    https://www.investopedia.com/tech/whats-environmental-impact-cryptocurrency/

"Not all cryptocurrencies have significant environmental impacts. Many of them do not use mining at all." the ones commonly used (BTC and ETH) do need to be mined, though.

.2% of the worlds power extra each year

11500 tons of waste in comparison to the 50 million tons that happen every year instead

Pollution caused because of how the electricity is produced not directly you could claim it for literally anything, turning on a light bulb polluting, using your phone polluting, using your pc polluting, even the carbon miles to get you a piece of food from the store also pollutes

Honestly if you look at it from the grand scheme, its not that bad I don't really get it

The point is it's unnecessary waste and pollution.

Obviously food transport is going to cause pollution - but food is a neccessity. NFTs are NOT a neccessity nor are they even worthwhile, meaning that the sheer volume of environmental damage they do is not in the slightest bit justified.

I still think nfts are dumb but for some reason all of the problems of all cryptocurrency are rolled into one point here and being all placed on nfts, which is a scape goat argument, I get that nfts are closely related to crypto but this doesn't add up, and even if it did its not really that big when its just a drop in the bucket compared to everything else its not a real problem, our phones probably do even more polluting and are less justified since they actively make some people worse

  • @Brokenbones said:

    I mean

It would explain why they are being so tight lipped about it.

Think about it for a moment right

    • If it was a bug or a glitch that caused the lines to be removed, then they could literally just say that. They acknowledged this question in the Q&A too with a non-answer
    • It being complications with the license holders is possible, but these chapters are made MONTHS in advance, there is absolutely no way the holders didn't know voicelines were gonna be a thing. The only way it makes sense if this is the reason would be if they didn't like the community making memes about the lines but, let's face it, why the hell would they give a damn? It's not like they made Pinhead say something he doesn't say in the films (or well, almost)
    • If BHVR themselves had problems with the voicelines, again they would just say it. Their community managers/Devs clearly have no problem referencing unfunny memes so why would this particular one be an issue? Their twitter is literally spammed with unfunny memes all the time so... yeah.

I don't know if I find the whole NFT thing disappointing or outright hilarious

Voiceline issue could be any number of things.

Clive Barker is getting the rights back, so maybe he asked them to remove them.

This is easily the worst take I've seen in a while.

So because some things are more polluting we should be okay with senseless environmental destruction for the sake of some digital art????

Edit: Phones are absolutely more justified than some video game NFT. They can literally save lives by allowing people to contact emergency services from almost anywhere. No idea what kind of logic you're following.

not gonna argue about environmental conservation on a video game message board, sure I could have made the phone point better by doing it with something else but I still think its blown out of proportion

Think whatever you like I guess. It won't change the fact that NFTs are damaging.

yea I took environmental classes near literally everything is damaging though so I know to take it with a grain of salt but none of us are qualified on any way to learn in on this matter tbh

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2552190#Comment_2552190

How did you take environmental classes but still don't see the point?

Of course most human activites will have negative enviromental consequences. However, some actions are necessary and the damage is (to an extent) unavoidable (e.g. farming, food refrigeration and preservation, and transport). This is something which we just have to learn to live with.

In the case of an NFT, there's really no justification for the level of environmental damage it causes. It's not necessary, it really doesn't provide any benefit to the buyer and it's excessively wasteful. Using limited environmental resources in this way is hugely irresponsible. If, as you say, "near literally everything" we do is damaging, we might as well make sure that what we're doing is worthwhile. Something that NFTs are not.

I see the point but I simply do not care since I don't have the power, drive, dedication, time, money, resources, or interest in doing literally anything about it even if I was an expert who was able to weight in on it , sitting on a message board complaining about it isn't likely to do anything since if a company wants to do something to make money they are likely to do so no matter what input we give them

Okay externalities badly explained in about 4 seconds.

Aight so yes everything has an external cost to thing. These are known as negative externalities. As these costs are not included in the price they can cause the invisible hand of the free market to mess up, the signals sent by the market to be wrong, and thus cause over production and overconsumption of a good. The government however intervene in markets to help combat externalities in theory, by offsetting the cost through different methods, such as taxes on the more draining goods, or subsidies for competitors which have positive externalities (and so are underconsuned or underproduced). Obviously not the full list.

In theory the tax revenue gained can be reinvested into subsidising better manufacturing processes, conservation efforts, etc.

Also we have tariffs which are the tax on imports and these can be higher to help offset the transport cost.

Obviously I say in theory in reality when does this happen?

NFTs are wasting needless energy, more than a small country produces, when you don't even get the ######### piece of media and your ownership certificate can be wiped at any time.

We need food. Trade allows us to get this food at a much cheaper rate, with more diversity. We "need" phones in our current society. They are at this point essential for finding and holding down a job.

It wouldn't be as much of an issue if most of this energy wasn't coal power but the fact that so little of it is renewable (again the 72% figure I think it was- I woke up 5 minutes ago- is disputed by many). But it's literally doing absolutely ######### nothing for that much energy consumption. The opportunity cost of NFTs and crypto mining in general is far too high.

Me going down with humanity would be a small sacrifice for the greater good of things.

On a serious note, if i really wanted the pinhead voicelines i would just get a soundboard and press a button everytime i teleported to trigger it.

    heh.

also, it's not as if most streamers don't already do them themselves when playing pinhead.

Edit: if it IS true and they had to agree to this ######### because that 'company' helped them get the license... I say remove the entire license and remake the ability and give it to Deathslinger.
