What do you think of spirits stand still mindgame? How would you fix it?

Honestly i hate it she literally gets so much zoning for free and could get fixed so easily. Heres a good example first 60 seconds:

(Theres other examples out on the internet you can look for i just can't for the life of me find any and this video just reminded me)

Just make her glow or something. Its not hard. Its the one thing about her that urks me the most not even her general kit.

  • I get the impression that most of the playerbase is completely incapable of noting behavioral patterns then adjusting accordingly.

What pattern?! Theres no counterplay! Its a guess game. If she is actually phasing and you throw the pallet she just hits you. If she doesnt then you got lucky. If she is and you run through the pallet and get lucky. If she isnt you run through the pallet and get smacked. You have no idea! I suck at spirit and at red i just throw a phase sometimes stand still others and just remain unpredictable and i pretty much win off standing still.

  • I often done have a whole lot of problems with it. Sure she eventually still gets me but I can still prolong the chase a good bit.

-throw down pallet (don't vault back)

    - wait for her to stand still for a second (whether she is actually phasing or not) and run one direction for a little but you must double back to blend your scratches if she is phasing.

-most of the time then phase to a random spot where you can go back and vault the pallet. The have their phase cooldown so you have a little bit still.

-if she didn't phase then you are fine as well

  • If you're standing their deciding what she's doing during that standstill you already messed up. You shouldn't be in that position in the first place.

Even then, it has counter play if you understand how Spirit works.

  • Simple fix to it: make her actually have a reliable, consistent tell when she's phasing that triggers inside the terror radius that you can easily see/hear that works across all of her skins and isn't the result of a bug.

    This rules out:

    • Shards glowing ("across all of her skins")
    • Animation resets ("reliable, consistent"/"isn't the result of a bug")
    • Phasing noise in terror radius ("isn't the result of a bug")
    • Passive groaning noise when phasing ("isn't the result of a bug")

Give her a very specific animation that activates when she's phasing and remains active until she finishes her phase. One different to the rest of her animations.

If you still want to stand still, you can. You'll just have to phase whilst doing so.

It's nowhere near a perfect fix and probably needs some more ruling out but it doesn't seem too completely flawed.

What being injured at a pallet? I mean it kinda happens.

  • It's one of many things I don't like about Spirit (her passive phasing is another mechanic that bothers me).

My personal favorite solution to removing the "stand-still" mindgame would just be to obliterate the Husk she leaves behind when phasing. The terror radius would still stay rooted to that spot like normal, but Spirit would not leave a copy of herself behind while phase-walking.

For bonus points, they could even make Spirit's "husk" appear to shatter like glass when she begins to phase-walk.

  • I wouldn't, only rank 20s really fall for it.

  • Most times, you can make an educated guess if she's actually phasing or not. A lot of spirits (me included) stand still to see what the survivor does first, and then phase.

Even that, it can still be very annoying and requires an extremely high level of experience against spirit to master (meaning a lot of losses on the road to enlightenment). So the fix is to let you hear the phasing emission while inside the terror radius.

  • Not a perfect solution but if you have a flashlight you can very quickly check if a spirit is stationary mindgaming you.

Shine like half a second in her eyes and if you notice the beam getting narrower and the blinding soundeffect playing then she's still there.

There should still be an indication ofcourse but this is something you can do right now if it's giving you trouble

  • There's nothing to change.

Don't just mindlessly run towards the killer.

As for for the youtube video.

1st - Feng was in a bad spot and put herself in an even worse position by just walking into a corner of the map with nothing to use.

2nd - Cheryl ran towards the spirit just because she stopped moving for a second. Again don't run at the killer just because they are standing still.

3rd - Ace vaulted towards the spirit. He would have been better off continuing to run forward and get more distance. Spirit has to go around the boat anyways which will eat up her power duration.

4th - Elodie should have ran towards the dock as a phasing spirit would be coming from the direction she ran to. Also at the low wall loop Zubat started turning his camera before Elodie got close to him which Elodie should have noticed and started running the other direction. But again it's a mistake of running towards the killer.

  • It's not a mindgame if there is not an equal opportunity to outplay the other, compare it to any other mindgame on all other killers.

For example, a moonwalking legion, you lose sight of the legion but you know what he is up to, you take a peek by moving a little to see if he committed or is baiting you.

except on all other killers survivor is the one having advantage due to red glow & 3rd person camera existence.

What being injured at a pallet? I mean it kinda happens.

First you had the advantage when you weren't injured, injured is now her advantage.

Second not at a pallet, if you already threw the pallet and are standing there. You have more options if the pallet is still up.

in the example you showed me, a pattern of behavior was established as the Spirit showed the player a stand still behavior twice. Additionally, there was nowhere to run in the area behind. So moving on was definitely the wrong call

It's not a 50 50 either. You have 4 choices. Move to the next pallet, cross the pallet, or move left or right in the loop. you have a 3 out of 4 chance of getting it right if you are going off pure guesses.

BTW - phasing sound was something survivors could hear in the teror radius back when she was released and it made her trash tier as a result. So that's likely a non-starter
