I always thought it would be cool if each character's 3 unique perks were available for 1 perk slot. Like you pick one of the characters 3 perks in one slot and only that characters perks can go in there. And then you still pick the 4 perks you want like we already do.. so 5 total but one slot can only have 1 of 3.

    Example:

Trapper has unnerving presence, agitation, brutal strength.

So I set up my 4 perks as usual just throw randoms I'll use Franklin, blood warden, spirit fury, and ruin. But then there is a 5th slot I can use but that slot will only hold one of the trappers own perks. So for this example we will say unnerving presence.

5 total but 5th slot has to be the characters own perk only. And this goes for survivors and killers.

I actually quite like this idea. Although some people would complain certain survivors would be stronger than others now (possibly even going as far as saying pay-2-win with characters like Laurie), I still think it would be a good idea and bring some meaning to each character rather than just a re-skin.

I like the idea of a 5th perk slot because there's always an extra perk that I want to run...but I think it would be a balancing nightmare in all honesty and an incredible amount of work for the developers, I very much doubt that it is something that would be implemented for these reasons alone.

I completely agree. There's always just that one other perk that would make my build perfect. The meta shift it would bring could cause so many issues for the devs and players. It would be safer sticking to what the game is like now but I think its a idea to think of how the game would change.

I'm generally against a fifth perk slot, personally. I really like the limitations of having only four perks. It makes me make choices about what I want to bring, I can't just take them all and be the jack of all trades.

To a lesser extent, while some of us might use it to make fun builds, I can see most people using it to slap on another meta perk just to better their odds of winning, and that would just further extend the gap between meme builds and meta builds.

Yeah I definitely like the limited choice we have because you have to really think about the perks you take. I think the only thing that irritates me about the limit is that meme/non-meta builds could be just a tiny bit stronger if they had one more perk slot to bolster them e.g. I wanted to take Breakout/Flip Flop/Tenacity/Unbreakable/Breakdown as a build cause I feel like it would be a really fun build to take but the four perk limit makes you have to choose one over the other sadly. It's sad how one build like this is almost the equivalent in taking 1 or 2 meta perks like DS or BT in terms of changing the game in favour of the survivor.

But yeah, definitely agree it would cause a big gap in those who wanna meme and those who wanna try climbing the ranks with meta builds.

no need to. There are so many games, way older than DbD, that didn't change the core elements. For example, Pokemon still has 4 moves slots.

adding a 5th slot would increase the killer-survivor disparity ever more.

I got what you were going for when you wrote the thread, but in nowadays DbD, it would never work.

I disagree to some extent. I know there are a lot of games that have kept their core elements and remained timeless to some extent. Some games have even made the game a lot worse by changing the fundamentals of the game (PAYDAY 2 for example). However, I feel like Pokemon isn't too comparable to DbD since it has so many other elements to it that make those four moves a fraction of what the rest of the game is since you have 6 other Pokemon to mix and match with. The only way you can achieve something similar with this is a 4 man swf where you pick specific builds for a certain strategy.

I just feel that since the market of video games nowadays strives for replayablity that many developers of games following this archetype (MOBAs, battle royale games, MMORPGs) create variety by switching up the fundamentals of the game. Eventually so many perks are going to become so obsolete that people will complain they even exist in the first place since they need bloodpoints for them. A passive perk would probably be a solution to this.

I don't think the game's balance can support a fifth perk for each player.

Yeah that's the biggest issue I think :( sadly the game isn't in a great place balance wise so this might end up causing too many problems for the game in a balance sense

  • @Mikeasaurus said:

If it was just a passive Perk slot, for something that doesn't offer advantages such as BT, DS, etc, then I'd be all for it. I usually run perks like Lightweight or Iron Will, and a Passive slot would be a great idea for those types.

I really like the idea too. I feel like some sort of rework with perks is needed because ultimately some perks are just rarely used :( if they give these perks a separate "passive" status then could actually see the light of day :D

  • What's the point in saying it's even worse if you're not going to tell the poor lad what the Nurse bug is? xD

Why should they take responsibility for your actions? They're being nice enough to give them away, it's not their fault you wasted money on it. If you went to a convention for a skin, you need a priority check, same with wasting over $800 on a skin

Not once have I mentioned that I spent money on a one of the convention codes, nor did I go to the convention. If you read my post correctly, you'd realise I was taking a hypothetical stance to a the scenario. Regardless, you cannot simply dismiss the role of the developer's in people choosing to spend this kind of money. By creating exclusives in the first place, they were aware that they were creating a market for these exclusives. The definition of exclusive, especially within gaming contexts, means that these will NEVER be available again, cementing this status for those who were able to obtain it. By going back on their words, they are breaking a promise and have falsely advertised their product to the loyal players who could be fortunate enough to get them. I completely disagree with their justification for it because they are full of contradictions. Not only were they so late to put and end to these black markets, they are still not able to completely stop as they STILL have exclusives. As a company, they have a duty to protect their product from being mishandled and overpriced, in order to protect their customers - they are ultimately the ones in control of the product, not those unfortunate enough to spend the money on them. They only spent this money because of the exclusive status BHVR gave them.

They said no more platform exclusives period. I play this game since release on ps4 that makes me and thousand others " loyal players " and we deserve just as anyone else some kind of recognition and we got it, I have earned all event cosmetics and I dont mind them giving it away free to other people to make them happy and play the game more if you want exclusives go in store spend hundreds of dollars and get uniqe outfits those ARE exclusives you paid to support the dev and have uniqe items the exclusives you are refering to are free for all gift from devs that said, legacy and streamers cosmetics will remain locked for real og players as it should be, now be happy that devs made others happy and stop whining with posts like this.

I agree with you - I think they should be released on console because they have never had the chance to get these exclusives. Most of what I've said is directed at PC, not consoles. Perhaps I should have made that clearer. Regardless, it may make newer players happy who, ultimately, are the majority nowadays, but it has disappointed a lot of the older players because of the reasons I've mentioned above.

    Loyal to what ?

    A company ?

    A brand ?

    Come on.

There should be a mutual loyalty. Where older players have supported BHVR and remained loyal (despite their rocky moments), there should be a similar sense of loyalty towards them. There should be a form of compensation for those who managed to grab an exclusive back in the early days of DBD because it demonstrates their love and dedication for a game that's had many ups and downs. I don't think exclusives are the be-all end-all of someone's love and dedication for the game but for many it is in a way. It's a meaningful way to remind them that "I was there when it started" so by doing this it just seems like their loyalty to the game means nothing.

  • @PeenutsButt3r said:

I've been in DBD around mid 2017 and cosmetic is not the reason why I keep playing this stuff. I don't care if they giving it for everyone, that means you will see more people playing with those cosmetic that you love and proud of, isn't that a success for even-more-loyal-players that been playing the game and don't even have good cosmetic?

Honestly, I wish I could take this view because it's so wholesome but there's just something that makes me feel disappointed with their justifications for it. I feel bad for the small minority who have got the exclusives already and just feel like BHVR have forgotten about them in some ways.

  • @altruistic said:

Someone else receiving pixels in a game has literally zero impact on you.

Stop worrying about other people, it’s none of your business.

The only cosmetic that should remain exclusive are legacy and twitch cosmetics. The rest are moot.

Its nothing to do with other people. As a business, their decision has an impact on myself and everyone else involved. If I want to voice how I feel about their decision, I will. If a company created a loyalty scheme which was exclusive for those who had put the time and effort into their business, would it then be fair that after years, this was simply handed freely to everyone?

  • I appreciate the information you've given me but this isn't the point of my discussion. I am already aware of the reasoning behind why certain exclusives aren't going to be released. The main point of my discussion is that BHVR have failed a loyal playerbase. I only brought up the exclusives of Bloodletting, Legacy and streamer exclusives because they will still breed a culture of highly priced codes sold by third parties which, in my opinion, is what BHVR are attempting to stop by making all the other exclusives free. It just seems so contradictory of their main aims.

  • @Eleghost said:

I think it's more to combat resellers of convention items. I don't really see why anyone would say it's a disservice. Do you find it fair that something the devs gave away to people who visited them at one of the conventions is being sold by some scummy guy for hundreds or even thousands of dollars? I highly doubt anyone went to every single convention they gave away codes for so you're basically gaining cosmetics for free. The event stuff that is going to be free isn't really that big. I've done all the events but my items are missing. Easy fix is to just give everyone them. I really don't mind if someone can enjoy a cosmetic that i enjoyed myself when it was released.

I agree with you that its completely unfair that people who resell these codes are selling them at such high prices. My main problem is how long BHVR left this issue for. Most of these codes have now already been sold at extortionate prices. I don't agree that they've left exclusives for three years and are only now finally doing something about them. I'm also confused that their main aim is to stop people selling them for such high prices yet it's still going to occur with other cosmetic exclusives like Bloodletting, Ohmwrecker etc.
