I'd LOOOOOVE a Thing chapter. A lot of people have suggested various ones. I'm on board for a creative idea.

Biggest challenge is how SWFs can counter the power by having an agreed on tell....such as crouch twice in a row in quick succession.

What would be fun is if after enough progress has been done by the killer, he can infect a survivor. That survivor then swaps allegiance and now wins with the killer and loses with the survivors. Now even someone in an swf will spew deception even with their buddies to stay low profile until the endgame collapse begins which will cause the infected survivor to mutate and become another killer. It's a bit silly and probably would never work, but it'd be hecka fun to be a secret villain in your swf group and pull one over on your buddies. Only one blood test would exist in the trial, so survivors would have one chance to guess which of their buddies is also a Thing - that's even if a survivor was infected to begin with!

The problem is, SWF counters everything in the game, so…if BHVR won't balance the game around them, they shouldn't design around them either.

It's not even SWF, "hmm.. I'm on a gen, and the HUD tells me the other 3 are also on gens…"

Fake HUD elements could be a fun idea. Maybe when the Thing is the killer, the HUD icons randomly change to misrepresent what your allies are doing. Potentially make it part of the power, allowing the Thing to scream and disrupt the HUD on a cooldown.

  • I have had people insta-DC against my Doctor as soon as they hear my static blast. Just so fast it's gotta be an ALT+F4. I don't know. Maybe people just only want to play exactly the way they want to play, but there's 5 people in a match and not everyone gets their way all the time.

I do actually like this sound of that for his ability.

I could imagine his invisibility is based on a resource he needs to manage, where he could run out of it. Or survivors could set up water traps to force him out of it.

If you played the original AvP 1 or 2 for PC back in the day, the Predator had an energy bar that all of his cloaking and energy weapons consumed. He had to refill it at energy points on the map. They could do something like that to sort of counterbalance it - the plasmacaster and cloak combo could be busted as hell, sniping people invisibly from across the map, but if you run low on energy you might have to run to an energy point to recharge them.

Just say you want him in the game this sounds too elaborate for a dream you had.

True story. It was kind of surreal, I normally don't have put-together dreams like that. But I've also been binging DBD with the event. Maybe it was the Tetris Effect.

  • I wish we got a BP modifier for this mode, because honestly, I'm not going to touch it after I get my event rewards. And I'm a killer, I love playing spooky and ambushing people from the dark, but to only get like 25k BP in a match? Pfft.

  • @fulltonon said:

More like improve killer lethality so survivors don't even bother to try doing so unless absolute necessary, and also fix extremely stupid hook spawn that just makes hooking impossible EVEN WITHOUT BODYBLOCKS.

You can't even imply that killers should be able to do something about survivors bodying them at every opportunity around here. Killers are supposed to be weak, don't you know that? It's 4 against 1, naturally killers aren't going to be able to do anything for fear that four other people might not have fun!

  • I feel like the amount of complaints for tunneling and camping are always exaggerated because someone can go 100 games without getting facecamped, but they get one game where the killer stands in front of them on first hook and they go on reddit or the forums and freak out.

I don't think there is actually a problem with tunneling or camping in the game at all. I don't believe it's an issue. I think people who get tunneled or camped once in a while are unfortunate but there are absolutely no problems with it as it stands.

Now, I like the idea of incentivizing spreading out your attention as killer. You're absolutely right that a survivor on death hook does 100% of the action economy as a survivor with 0 hooks. The reason why you often see killers prioritizing weak survivors who are easy to catch or survivors who are on more hooks is because the only survivor that does not progress the game is a dead survivor.

It is the most optimal play to kill survivors if you can because every survivor that is out of the game is less progress the survivors can make.

No amount of blood point rewards or medallions or what-the-crap the devs want to introduce will change "securing a kill" unless it is more efficient to chase multiple survivors.

So, yeah, I like the idea of a stacking debuff. Maybe you can get a bit more granular with it - while healthy, survivors take no penalties. An injured survivor takes a penalty based on hook states - 5% for 0, 10% for 1, and 15% for 2. This not only incentivizes the survivors not getting hooked, but also not staying injured. Not getting hit. Avoiding the killer as if the killer is a scary monster that can actually hurt them is sort of the point of the game's theming but nobody actually does this because it's more rewarded to play the bodyblocking Borrowed Time hero.

  • People keep wanting to play conga line survivors, like they are somehow entitled to following right behind the killer so they can get the immediate unhook.

The simple truth is you're not. Live on the opposite side of the map until it is safe, or get downed.

  • There's every possibility that every time a killer queues they're going to run into sweaty try-hards with meta survivor perks and items/addons, so why risk getting utterly curbstomped when you could stand a chance of doing well?

And I don't mean "winning" with a 4K, I mean getting points, I mean pipping, I mean the match not being over in 4 minutes.

There is no incentive to queue up with non-meta perks. There is no reason to ever bring something "quirky" when nobody else has to play by those rules.

DbD does not reward "quirky," it rewards playing the game in the current state, and that state sucks.

  • There are currently bugs with survivor boon totems causing games to crash, there are a ton of survivors exploiting server instability and bugs, and a lot of popular killers were nerfed.

I imagine a lot of killers are not playing until #########'s fixed.

  • Basically, imagine that leaving your car running in your garage causes it to solve sudoku puzzles.

When it solves a million sudoku puzzles, it gets a token. That token says "Yes, you completed a million sudoku puzzles," and is utterly unique.

You can then attach this token to something, like say, a digital piece of artwork or a 3D model that says "I am the unique owner of this product."

However, it takes a full tank of gas for your car to solve one sudoku puzzle, and it has to solve a million to get a token. Your car puts out all the regular harmful gasses and stuff.

Now, a bunch of people all over the world have bought up cars and left them idling to produce these tokens. They buy up gas, they rent out parking lots, causing actual gas prices to go up for people who use their cars for transportation and people are unable to buy quality cars at the same price because demand is so high. Parking lot salesmen start cutting down more rainforest land to make room for more cheap parking lots.

These people try to convince you that you definitely want to give them $350 for a high-resolution PNG on the internet, and that this PNG is unique to you and only you "own" it.

Meanwhile, people are getting cancer from the emissions and the rainforest is dying and global warming is definitely increasing and you "own" a picture that someone right-clicked and hit "Save As" to make a copy of because NFTs don't actually do anything.

  • Every time someone says "Well we're already doing a lot of damage to the environment just by existing so what's one more bad thing" in defense of NFTs, I just want that person to know that you are the reason why things are so bad in the first place.

  • @Exult said:

I'm not ready to give up every single ounce of my hope. You don't know for sure that this is some malicious marketing ploy, but at the same time I'm not going to tell you not to be skeptical or critical. I don't want to assume the absolute worst already before BHVR has even come out to address this.

I don't want to be naive, but I don't want to be pessimistic and worsen how I feel about the situation either.

I don't know that this is the case, to be sure. However, every other game developer I've heard of getting into bed with the dirty money has turned out to be horrible. BHVR, in my experience, has never once addressed community concerns in a satisfying way, has never shown themselves to listen to the community, and has never actually reversed a bad decision regardless of what was said.

Why is this different? And I know that it adds nothing to being pessimistic, but it is my opinion that if BHVR doesn't fix this in a meaningful way they really should go out of business.

  • Personally I am fully willing to have Pinhead and all Hellraiser content removed from the game - not "removed from the store," but deleted, taken out, stripped from people who already own it, completely and entirely, if it means that it doesn't support NFTs in the slightest.

To say that I am willing to never, ever see another crossover if it means no more NFTs is an understatement. If New Line Cinema or whoever winds up owning Jason says "We'll let you put Jason in DbD but you're going to advertise our NFT," no Jason. If tomorrow Konami was like "We're making a Pyramid Head NFT and we want you to do a promotion for it," delete Pyramid Head.

No NFTs. Ever. Not once, not "technically not in the game," nothing. No tolerance for NFTs in gaming.

The exact same here. Got a steam giftcard for my birthday a few days ago and used it to buy auric cells for the new tome and upcoming skins...🤦

Do you think they might have timed this announcement specifically because they knew the event, the mid-chapter release, and skins would get people clamoring to drop money on it?

Like, they weren't going to announce it any other time - they knew they had to announce it now so you're going to get major FOMO vibes and spend money and support their immoral NFT decision.

  • I know how you feel, as this year has held some really ######### abhorrent reveals about game developers.

Blizzard is full of sex pests.

BHVR is selling out to NFTs and lying about it.

The world, at least to me, feels like it's full of a bunch of scary stuff and the places I want to go to and get away from that are being dragged into that same #########.

  • Eh, y'know, as movies go I give the Rob Zombie Halloween movies a solid C-, which is not to say they are bad, they're just guilty of not being good.

And horror movies generally aren't GOOD movies, let's be real. That doesn't mean they're not GOOD horror movies. There are worse ways to spend your time.

  • It's not that I'm killing babies, it's these other people who were excellent to work with and were great partners. Go buy some dead babies here at their website.

Please don't take him from me. I've waited so very long and he's great.

Unfortunately, yes, Pinhead is one of my favorite horror characters of all time, and his design is super cool, his mechanics feel fresh and rewarding, and I would still demand they remove him from the game.

I know there's no such thing as "ethical consumption under capitalism," but this isn't merely lining the pockets of some greedy dev. NFTs are an active blight on the online world, games, creative endeavors, and the environment, all at once. They are tangible damage, evil, and immoral to even have a hand in.

So, y'know, literally worse than the Cenobites. At least they were just trying to show people a good time.

I would love for it to just be a guy in a yellow trench coat and boots with a hook hand

Is that not the killer from I Know What You Did Last Summer?

  • I would rather have no Hellraiser content in the game if it was NFT-related in the slightest.

That's the long and short of it. If BHVR had said "No, we won't work with you if you plan on using this for NFT-related objects," I would have been amazed.

But they didn't. No matter what the "agreement" is, BHVR said "MORE MONY PLEASE" and went with NFTs, regardless of what their involvement is.

If it means they provided any assistance to generating NFTs whatsoever, I want Hellraiser content stripped out of the game until such a time as no one involved in the process of licensing Hellraiser to DbD is involved in NFTs.

  • Oh my god please play Predator Hunting Grounds it's so much fun

Also RIP EVOLVE. I bet they're kicking themselves now that DbD is dead.

  • Anything to make "Hold action button" more interesting would be good in my book, even if it was something like "Search for a key to the lockers in this desk by holding the action button." At least you'd be doing it at different locations, at different times, and so on.

Maybe it'd be as easy as finding parts to the generator, or having to locate the switches for the gates instead of them being literally right next to them.

Also, for the rite thing, I just thought it'd add some variety but it would be hard to balance. Maybe people holding artifacts are visible to the killer, and completing the ritual would take a ludicrous amount of teamwork - like, the killer cannot chase ALL of you at once.

  • @Erohnic said:

Trapping a generator would be more balanced if it went off when the gen is completed. From the sounds of it, the trapper would be able to trap every gen. And it’s possible that it would injure all survivors (little chance. But still a chance). Which if it is even on two gens, that still offers a pretty could amount of injuring.

I don't think the explosion should injure other nearby survivors, just give them a debuff. It would only injure the person who fails the check. Having it go off when the gen is completed doesn't provide the Trapper with any information, though, and his general idea is map control with his traps.

The general idea is that first, survivors need to be more observant before they just hold M1 to repair, because they need to check it for traps. Then they need to spend a little more time disarming the trap before they can complete it. If they don't do this, they get smacked and Trapper knows where they are.

Of course, balance and testing would be required for all of this, I'm not a game designer so I couldn't just say "It's balanced" from the get-go. But Trapper should punish survivors who are careless and impatient, and reward good planning on the killer's part. He should be able to dictate the flow of the game better by making survivors slow down and look at what they're doing.
