  • I was having fun, but the match making decided to put me with decent team mates and a Killer who just bought the game. Lots of escapes, so I'm back in Tunnelling Wesker MMR again. I know he's only got 7 minutes, but please can we just chill a bit? Maybe let me heal up when I'm just off hook? I'd like a chance to do my tome challenges before I die.

My Killer games have been going OK though. Actually glad offerings are personal for the event, so nobody feels obliged to be "nice" and farm when everyone brings one. I just want to do the fun event stuff and play the game normally.

  • Killer is Instant for me too.

Wish I could swap with you, because I'd love to play some Survior games with Kate's new Muscial Rib-Cage T-Shirt and the charms I've just unlocked. I couldn't be happier with the unlockable cosmetics for this event. It's all Top tier.

  • Awesome! Thanks for this. I think it looks really pretty on a hook.

  • I was 50+ hours into playing the game before I realised that items were consumable and had to be activated with a button press.

I thought that by simply holding a toolbox it would help me to do gens faster... I know this sounds hard to believe, but it's true. Don't ask me why I didn't think items in DBD would work the same way they do in every other video game ever made. Because I don't know.

I also kept going down to deep wound every time I played against Legion. Not so embarrassing really, this happens A LOT whenever I get matched with baby Survivors from time to time. But what is embarrassing is that after 700+ hours of game time, I still sometimes forget to mend when I'm playing a Legion.

I am a Legion main. Yeah.

Amen. This is what I would like as well. I wouldn't mind waiting a couple of minutes more and have a more fair match.

Currently, this is DBD in a nutshell and the reason the game is going to ######### (and yes, player numbers are dropping fast):

    1. SoloQ: bad matchmaking, potato teammates
    2. SWF: walk in the park, grossly overpowered
    3. Killer: Overpowered SWF's on comms

    Fun...

I also wouldn't mind waiting a few minutes for fairer matches. But while you might be joining an instant lobby, the other players could have been waiting a little while for a game to start. So I don't know what they could do to prevent those situations from happening, other than the current solution which is to grab just about anyone to fill the lobby.

Maybe they could add a feature to turn quick matchmaking off (the same way they do for cross-play)? But I doubt many players would actually want to use it if it meant waiting ages to get in a game.

I'm pretty eager to hear if hiding Survivor prestige levels has had any positive effects on match making accuracy. I do wonder how many one sided matches are caused by all the lobby dodging that goes on, especially later in the month when players have pips to defend.

  • I'd like to see some new general perks be added to the game periodically. Maybe one new general perk for each side every other chapter.

Like, there's only one free gen regression perk in the entire game and it's only free because they lost the Stranger Things License. Given how necessary regression perks are, I think that's absolutely nuts. I know they often appear in the Shrine, but it's still not great for newer players to have to grind through some difficult matches without access to many decent regression perks.

Lots of the the best perks for Survivor are thankfully free to most new players. But for Killers, the free perks are mostly kinda bad to just OK. As others have said, I think making older DLC a bit cheaper to buy with iri shards would be a good move.

  • I imagine if you get really, really good by putting in thousands of hours into learning how to play, you're going to break the matchmaking system. This isn't Fortnite. The game has no ranked mode and a relatively small player base.

So the system is going to struggle to find 4 other players at your level to play with. If it struggles to match up the casual potatoes like me (which is the majority player base skill level), it's got no hope of properly matching highly skilled players. You'd be waiting forever to get into a game because there won't ever be enough queuing up in Solo Q at any given time.

They've said that playing in a swf can increase your chances of escaping by up to 15%. So if survivors have an escape rate of 40%, and that includes swfs, then I'd put solo at around 25% average escape rate.

I only play Solo and decided to track my games for a little while. Out of 60 games played, I ended up with a 30% escape rate. So that sounds about right to me.

  • Did they give any reason for why Switch players are being left out this time? Some kind of technical issue, maybe? They probably wouldn't tell us why, but thought I'd ask just in case they did.

  • I tend to favour a generalist jack of all trades build for Survivor.

    I bring:

Lithe, so I (hopefully) don't immediately hit the dirt in chase.

Self-Care, A selfish perk so I can stay healthy. I don't trust myself in chase. But it also means I can be a bit more altruistic and go for endgame saves / pick up camped slugs etc.

Botany, so that Self-Care doesn't take a thousand years to finish. Also just a great healing perk for decently speedy heals under the hook.

The final slot is typically reserved for Deja Vu to help with doing gens. But this may be swapped out with We'll Make It, Blast Mine, Saboteur or Detective's Hunch for tome challenges.

If I feel like switching things up, I have an alternate build: Made For This + Self-Care + Botany + Resilience. It does more or less the same thing but is slightly better if it's a Sloppy Butcher / Plague / Legion kind of a day.

I think this a fairly balanced set of perks good for doing most things.

As far as my Killer builds go, they vary too much. Of course I like to win, but as I play mostly for fun, I guess the main theme would be to hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Lightborn and/or Iron Grasp are common picks for facing bully squads. Basically, whatever helps to keep me sane. So I guess I'm my own Therapist?

This brings up an interesting point. If Charlotte is parked and you're running Victor, does Charlotte still count as "the killer" for AFC? Or does Victor not count because he already doesn't count for things like chases?

I actually looked that up. Apparently you can't release Victor or switch between the two if either is within 16m of a hook. So the Twins already have a built-in anti face camping feature.

So I guess the meter shouldn't fill at all if the game lets you switch to Victor.

  • For this exact reason, I could never play this game while wearing headphones. It's just too much. Though I've never seen a doctor about it, my family and friends all seem to think I have at least a few autistic traits.

In one of my first ever Killer games against a SWF on comms, anytime someone would miss a skill check all the other players would spam half a dozen notification explosions to try to confuse me or get my attention. It wasn't fun.

The Doctor is also pretty unpleasant for me to face in my Survivor games for similar reasons.

DBD may as well be called Overstimulation: The Game. So I do kinda wish we had a way to at least control the volume of the screams and the explosion sound effects. I'm sure it would be a welcome feature, even for many neurotypical players.

  • The real strength behind the new mechanic is the message that it sends to out to face campers. It's the Devs saying please don't play the game this way, it's bad manners and not fun for anyone.

It doesn't prevent proxy camping or stop Killers intercepting a hook save and it's not intended to. There are times in a match when the Killer has to proxy camp to defend gens and hooks. I think this needs to remain a part of the game.

Though I do worry that it may be more of a challenge on some smaller indoor maps to defend gens now. Say the Killer has to pass by a corridor hook multiple times to chase Survivors off the nearby gens. Or say you're trying to defend a 3 gen and you've hooked a Survivor next to a gen. I'm not sure what would happen in these situations. But since the bar never decays, it might eventually fill up to allow an escape, even though "camping" is the only play that makes any sense for the Killer. Survivors could then focus on gens without the need to attempt an unhook. It's still early days though, so I can't say for sure if this could actually happen.

  • I love coming up with stupid themed builds. I don't have all the perks I need to try these out yet, but here are a few:

    Speed Demon build:

Lithe + Overcome + Smash Hit + Vigil (to recover from exhaustion quickly)

    Locker Dweet Build:

Lucky Star + Inner Healing + Quick & Quiet + Head On

(don't forget to equip Dwight's default cosmetics and the BP charm for this one)

    "Look mum, no items" build:

Saboteur + Deja Vu + Botany + Flashbang

The most selfish Solo Q build I could think of:

Sole Survivor + Left Behind + Low Profile + Self Care (or Resilience to open the gate faster while injured)

Maybe don't try this last one... Though I confess to using a similar build when I first started playing because escape seemed otherwise impossible.

There's flexibility to mix and match with various other perks in most of these builds (for example, any other locker related perk would work well in the Locker Dweet build).

That's the only one I've tried for myself, btw. It was a one way ticket to tunnel town, made me play significantly worse (I guess I got a little too into character?) and probably annoyed my team mates, but I did have fun jumping into a locker any time the Killer came near.

I hope one day to have the shards to buy Flashbang, Smash Hit and Overcome in the Shrine so I can try these out.

  • I hope the rework is popular enough that I actually get to see her in my Survivor games, because she's got to be one of the rarest Killers to face in public matches.

I think I've seen the Hag and The Twins more often than her. I've honestly only seen her once since her release tome.

  • I've not seen it activated in any of my Survivor games yet. That said, I tend to Vs tunnellers and proxy campers far more often than face campers (who were never that common in my experience, anyway), so I'd didn't expect there to be much of a difference.

Even though I never camp, I did feel a little anxious when getting too close to any hooked Survivors, especially so if I was in a chase nearby. It's not changed my play style, because I always leave the hook as soon as I can to go find other Survivors, but it does feel like one more thing to have to manage and think about whilst playing Killer, and in that respect doesn't feel so great to play around.

Could be more of a problem for certain Killers. I felt I had to be extra mindful of where I left Charlotte on RPD when I played a Twins game last night. I usually like to leave her near to the main hall, as there's often a lot of hooks clustered around there, so it could be potentially tricky to manage if you have two survivors hooked nearby to each other and gens in the area to protect in that situation.

But it's still new and I'm sure over time that won't be an issue for me.

  • It felt more manageable to play on as Killer. So my first impression is that it's slightly more Killer sided than it was (mostly due to the smaller size). Unfortunately, I didn't survive long enough to get a real feel for it in my one Survivor game on the map. The layout is obviously still unfamiliar, so that didn't help. I'm not very good at looping anyway, so my opinion probably isn't worth a great deal.

And it's still very, very red.

  • I'm a big fan of Self-Care for a couple of reasons.

    I like no item builds:

If I bring a med kit, I will only get one heal out of it. Ideally, you need to guarantee two heals at least per game, one for each time you're off the hook and maybe an extra heal for the end game.

Since I don't escape often, I always run out of med kits anyway. I'd rather spend my BP on unlocking and leveling up perks & prestige characters that I don't use, than spend it on multiple bloodwebs in the hope for a supply of med kits to appear.

    Unreliable team mates:

Since I don't usually like to be healed under the hook (unless the killer is in chase or they've got We'll Make It), many players will abandon you if you decide to run for some cover. Or maybe the killer returns and you both need to run. So it's good for those circumstances.

    I'm selfish:

I always combine it with Botany, a great team perk that I wouldn't otherwise be bringing.

Yes, it's a team game. But ultimately, I'm playing for myself and to be the last Survivor standing with the chance for a hatch escape. Self-Care keeps me healthy in those matches where all else is lost. I'm sure we've all had those games where you're the only player to touch a gen. That's not to say I'd never sacrifice myself so that someone else can maybe get out, by the way. But I do like to stay alive for as long as I can. With the security of an extra health state, it also lets me make riskier endgame saves or to run for an open gate.

Would you be so kind and name the killers you find from that list unfun and why you feel that way?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3558691#Comment_3558691

Thats the point of this thread. A killer who is only fun for 1 side, is not something the devs should strive. Artist is a prime example for that: Fun to play, absolutly no fun playing against.

It might be a skill issue on my part, but I tend to struggle against most of the Killers on that list.

Wesker seems able to slam you against just about any silly thing and his power benefits from ping differences, so he can often feel unfair. His virulent bound has very little cool down time and a powerful secondary hindering effect if he catches you. If you try to cure it with a spray, you just let him know where you are. Can also leap over pallets and follow up fairly quickly with a basic attack (unlike Legion). In my experience, in chase he's an oppressive and difficult Killer to shake off.

Blight is ridiculously fast and can smash through pallets (That's if he even lets you drop one thanks to Blood Favor). We all know how strong he is and it doesn't help that I just have no idea what counter play there is to him. I know he's difficult to master though, so at least his power is earned.

Wraiths always seem to come out of cloak way too quickly and before you know it, you're eating dirt (and/or playing injured for the rest of the game because they all run Sloppy Butcher). Is an excellent camper and his cloaked speed helps with tunneling.

Oni and Billy are fine to face but are still not among my favourites.

As far as playing those Killers, I can only comment on the ones I own:

I always have a rotten time when I play as Billy. I'm just completely hopeless with him. It feels so embarrassing.

Wraith is OK to play I guess, but I find I enjoy the other stealth Killers like Myers, Sadako and Pig much, much more.

  • Although I don't enjoy playing on it, Midwich is really well done. I'm not even a Silent Hill fan, I just like all the creepy little details they included. It's obvious that a lot of effort went into crafting it.

But my personal favourite has to be Toba Landing. It's just so incredibly pretty. I'm also probably one of the few people that likes the Swamp maps, even though I can't see anything when I'm playing on them with my Legion.

  • My personal list of fun killers to play as or face would be totally different and wouldn't include any of those. So yeah, fun is very subjective.

But I would say some Killer powers encourage or excel at pretty unfun playstyles and for me that applies to quite a few on that list.

Some Killers can be both fun and terrible to face, depending on the add-ons they use. A spooky Myers that likes to sneak up on you is always fun. But a Myers that tiers up as quickly as possible to get their infinite tombstone add-ons into play is one of my least favourite Killers to face.

  • I have days when I might survive almost every game, but they are rare. A more common experience would be one more like today, with a 10%-20% escape rate. It is a weekend though. The more serious Killers seem to play at the weekends. I'd be willing to bet a near 50% escape rate is not normal for most players.

MMR is kinda wild and in my experience, appears to be close to non existent for most of the time. At least it does for me, anyway. I'm a newer player who never played under the old system, but I cannot imagine the previous system being much worse than this.

I agree, although even as a veteran player I still hit incredibly good SWFs time to time who usually give me a serious run for my money and I am sure wipe the floor with lesser killers. You typically see them running lots of hope and adrenalines because they are used to making it to endgame after rushing all the gens in like 4 minutes while using a survivor sided map offering. I am sure the experience is brutal enough it is burned into the minds of some newer killer players. I've seen some SWFs making it to the hundreds as far as 3 man out+ streaks go. DBD is just....very kind to experienced players and very mean to new ones.

Playing solo survivor has always been awful though, easily the hardest experience in the game and im saying that as a killer main. Every now and then you get a really great team who all sync up and epic things happen but it's mostly getting pubstomped or having people ragequit / suicide at like 5 gens left multiple times per session

Absolutely brutal. I saw some of my strongest Survivor opposition when I first started playing but outside the events, rarely seem to get matched with these teams anymore. I guess that's the MMR working as it should, but there's no way new Killers should ever be put up against these teams. It's absolutely wild to me that this can happen within just a few matches.

  • Pinhead. As much as I like the film Hellraiser and his goofy voice lines, his game play has no redeeming qualities for me. Try to solve his stupid evil Rubik's cube, he teleports and you're dead. Or ignore it and face endless chain hunts until he finds you and you're also dead.

Luckily I rarely ever face him.

  • I use 4 of the Survivor perks regularly. Lithe, Self-Care and Botany are my core build, with Deja Vu and Resilience usually filling the 4th slot. Does this mean I'm a meta gamer now?

I only really use 1 of the Killer perks regularly, though (Jolt). Not surprised to see this one top of the list. After all, it's the only free gen regression perk and a pretty good one. I do see those other Killer perks a fair amount in my Survivor games, but usually only when I get matched with stronger Killers.

Otherwise, I see a lot more perk variety than these two lists would suggest. Maybe at my MMR, players tend to run the perks they like the most, rather than the perks they think will help them to win more games.

  • I'm never gonna stop running Self-Care (with Botany, of course). I love this perk.

I can heal up to try and rescue a Survivor from a hook in the end game, take a hit for an injured teammate running for the gate or make a play to pick up some camped slugs. I can also heal myself if I get unhooked but they don't stick around to stay and heal me. Things I wouldn't ever be able to do if I'd already used up my pathetic 1 heal med kit.

  • I also think Sloppy Butcher is a misery to face in Solo Q. I get why players run it, because it's really strong on most M1 Killers, but oh boy do I hate to see it.

If the Killer runs Nurse's Calling and likes to return to the hook, it's basically game over for most teams. Even with the best healing perk combos to counter it (few players will be running these anyway), I think it still takes far too long to heal each other. Getting consistent, safe heals from your team mates in Solo Q is just never going to happen.

I don't know what it was like to play the game before healing was nerfed, but I do wonder if this was a change that was meant to combat well co-ordinated SWFs and your average Solo Q suffering is the unintended collateral damage.

In any case, seeing this perk makes me want to run Resilience + Deja Vu every game and just blitz through gens.

  • I'd say I mostly play Legion because their power is the most fun to me (probably 70-80% of my Killer games).

The rest of the time, I split my games between Myers, Bubba, Sadako, Pig, Plague, Xeno and The Twins depending on my mood.

As a controller player, if I feel like suffering I sometimes play Trickster because I love his sound design, character and vibe or Huntress if I get a daily. I also play Trapper if I just want to chill and lay traps and not think about chasing too much.

The rest of the cast I could either take or leave, don't own, don't want to invest the time required to get good with them, or I typically hate facing them in my survivor games (Clown, Wesker, Ghost Face, Doctor, Pinhead & Wraith, I'm looking at you).

  • I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of players are staying away before the Halloween event. I know I'm currently playing a lot less than usual because I need to be ready to grind through the event tome on both Switch and PC (can we have cross progression soon, please?)

And there's not so much to play for now that the rift is finished with.

  • For Killer, I always run Iron Grasp. Near guarantees that there will be no escape from your evil clutches. Plus, it lets you take a swipe or two at any body blockers and sabo players on the way. I play Killer with a controller (even on PC, because I'm a console gamer at heart), so this helps me deal with the wiggling and makes getting to the hook a lot easier too.

For Survivor, I'm finding it difficult to pick just one, so I'll choose my current favourite; DeJa Vu. Never rated it very highly before the buff, but now that it lets you see the 3 closest gens at all times, it's become invaluable to me. Now I always know where a gen is, even on the maps I find confusing like Midwich. And it always feels good to be joined by a fellow DeJa Vu enjoyer on a gen for a speedy fast gen repair. Plus, it has the added effect of attracting aura reading Survivors to the gens that they should be working on.

  • I am super excited for all the fun themes, cosmetics and unlockables. But as a relatively new player, I've come to feel apprehension for the events.

It usually means either boring (but sometimes appreciated) farming games with nice Killers, or my sorry behind getting a kicking in all my Killer & Survivor games by every 2000+ hour turbo sweat returning to the game after their break following the last event / chapter release.

Will be my first DBD Halloween event though! Playing some Laurie and Myers games on actual Halloween night is gonna be Chef's kiss.

  • When there's a BP incentive in play, I'm pretty sure MMR has more or less been switched off completely. Which means for the majority of the day (in my region at least), this game doesn't have a fully functional MMR system. And at peak SWF times, if you're the random third or fourth Survivor, I think your ranking score is disregarded as well. Hence, why we get unbalanced teams matched up with Killer players they probably shouldn't ever be facing.

These are just my suspicions, mind you. I don't think anyone outside of BHVR has a solid or accurate understanding of how the MMR system actually works. Sometimes I see a BP incentive for killer but it still takes a long time to get into a game. I mean, what's going on there? I like to think if a match is instant it means accurate, but perhaps it actually means there's no-one else so I guess you'll do.

I do wonder how much longer people would be prepared to wait for more accurate match making, though. My guess would be not very...

  • I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on all of those perks, but Knockout I agree with for sure. Only ever seen Killers slug but never hook when using this perk. Can end a match very quickly.

Adrenaline is also potentially kinda horrible to play against. I once saw 4 Adrenalines pop at once while playing as Legion. If I saw this in every game, I'd run NOED and I hate NOED. Just spirit crushing, really.

I would maybe add a few to that list:

Dark Devotion, maybe? Don't get me wrong, it's very funny to use (I love using it on my spooky killers like Sadako) but it's pure evil against a Solo Q team. Pretty uncommon too, so it's almost always going to confuse Survivors who face it (stopping them from unhooking, picking up slugs, etc).

Sloppy Butcher is pretty nasty and demoralising to see. Virtually guarantees no heals ever and turns any basic attack Killer into a one hit Killer like Bubba for the rest of the game.

I also think Lethal Pursuer is kinda unhealthy for the game, too. Speeds the game up way too much and when I suspect the Killer has it, I fully expect to earn 5-10k BP max. Usually means the Killer wants to end the game as quickly as possible. Maybe any perk that speeds the game up too much is problematic, to be honest.

  • I remember a Renato trying to hide in a bush on Borgo in that extra colourful outfit of his. That was never going to work, my friend. His last ditch effort to save his sister from the hook warmed my heart though. I didn't let him save her, but I did open the gates for him to crawl out.

I also got a laugh the other day watching a bot self caring under a hook against a Huntress. They often won't let you heal them and it's pretty hilarious.

  • The Game has sometimes been a happy hunting ground for my Legion and I've found it pretty decent for stealth killers like Pig and Myers. Smaller maps in general are pretty good for Legion. Of course, if you have no reliable way to shred through pallets, it can be a misery to play on and it's obviously pretty horrible for a Huntress.

I personally get very lost on RPD, but it typically spawns a very easy to defend chain of 3-4 gens. If the Survivors don't break it, you can often grind out a win there.

The maps that I think are a real struggle for most killers are the huge ones. Most killers just don't have the mobility (and it seems like BHVR is addressing that). I think it largely depends on the Killer and the map, though.

As far as my own Survivor MMR is concerned, all maps are killer sided maps.

  • I think the DC penalty should stay, but be a maximum of 15 minutes only. Any longer than that is excessive punishment, in my opinion.

Ironically, if you DC at the start of a game on first down, it's the fairer thing to do when compared to the alternative method of dumping yourself out of the game (by killing yourself on hook or going AFK). Yet giving the other Survivors a bot to play with is considered to be the worse thing to do, since only a DC results in any punishment.

DC policy clearly needs to be reviewed now that bots are in the game.

  • My top 4 are Meg, Ripley, Dwight and occasionally Thalita.

Meg is my main. She has my favourite Survivor cosmetic in the whole game (Neon Fanatic) and the sound she makes when she falls from a height is cute.

Ripley, because she's a horror legend.

I have a soft spot for Dwight, since he was my first main when I started, so I still play as him from time to time.

And finally Thalita. I know you killers like picking her up by the booty shorts. Please give me hatch?

I feel like I should play as Jeff more often, though. He's a bearded middle-aged dude who likes metal so I can relate, but he's so incredibly loud I just know the killer's going to find me instantly and I'm not a good enough looper to compensate.

I don't play Ash much either, although I'm a big Evil Dead fan. Feels like a missed opportunity knowing that Nic Cage has lots of voice lines but they didn't get Bruce Campbell back to do any more for him :(

I also feel sad that I'll never be able to play as Steve...

Feng makes the most annoying sounds when she's injured, so I can't ever play as her. I almost never spare Fengs in my Killer games.

But if I could only pick one Survivor by their perks alone, it would be Claudette. Would you find me furiously Self caring in a corner of the map while the team is dropping like flies? You bet.

The rest, I don't feel strongly about one way or the other.

  • As a competitive person myself, I've struggled with similar emotions. My advice would be to try out a silly meme build once in a while. That's what I do when I feel things are getting a bit too serious. On killer, I might fill all my perk slots with screaming perks and be laughing for the whole match (Infectious Fright + Hex: Face the Darkness + Iron Maiden + Make Your Choice).

Or as Survivor, I might play a Locker Dwight build for a bit. I only recently bought the Switch version, so at the moment I'm enjoying being a P1 locker Dwight with an all locker themed perk loadout (default cosmetics with the bloodpoints charm for added authenticity).

I can't say it always works, but it does help to remind myself that DBD is a silly video game and it's meant to be fun.

  • I've been tracking my Survivor escapes recently. I've got about a 20-25% escape rate. Yeah, I think I'll be keeping my crutch and second chance perks, thanks.

Besides, I don't think Killers would want to play a game where the survivors will be hiding for most of the game. Because that's how I played before I unlocked any decent perks.

  • Forget about countering the flashy saves. I'd run it just to never to get chain blinded at a pallet ever again. And if you down a Survivor but they're not by a wall, I'm not sure what you're meant to do in this situation. You can look around to see if there's anyone nearby and chase them off, but that takes valuable time. Lightborn counters both situations completely. Makes it pretty useful, no? Survivors wouldn't bring flashys if they weren't strong items in the right hands.

But I run it mostly to make the Killer experience a more chill one and I'm sure plenty of other players do too. Perhaps there are more fun perks to run, but lightborn makes the game more fun for me and that's what really counts.

  • Not a main of either role (usually 50/50), but I've been playing a lot more Survivor since the Alien chapter dropped. I tend to follow the BP incentive and I don't like waiting too long to get into a game. I've also wanted to improve at the role. For whatever reason, it's not clicked with me the way that playing Killer has and I want to get better at it.

I don't have that many hours (about 700 split 50/50), but I still feel like a fairly competent Killer to the degree that it feels like putting on an old pair of shoes at this point.

I usually find something to enjoy about each Killer game I play, but after a certain time of day, the survivors like to BM and it can be a struggle to get a single hook before the gates are powered. Those games can feel pretty rough, but I have to remind myself that a loss is almost an inevitability against certain teams if they don't 3 gen. If you make mistakes, have no aura reading or don't want to bring a full slowdown build or an end game build to make a late comeback, good teams will be able to punish you for it.

Most teams that I face are a mix of good and bad though. So I can usually afford to "waste" some time having a fun chase with a good looper, knowing I can buy it back by easily downing a weaker looper later on.

So yeah, it's still fun. I'm just playing more Survivor at the moment.

  • I can't for the life of me keep track of hook counts. There's just too many other things to focus on and I'll almost certainly lose count at some point. So even if I want to play nice and 8 hook everyone before I get a kill, I can't. And I've accidentally killed survivors that I've wanted to spare in the past. So after a certain point, I just stop hooking on those rare occasions when I want to turn friendly and let everyone go.

So yes, I'd like to see this change. It will let me spread my hooks against weaker teams and like others have said, tunnellers don't need the help to do what they do anyway. They know who they'll be dumping out of the game early.

That said, there's an argument to be made that hook management is a skill Killers need to develop and letting them know exactly who they need to target at a key point of the game will give them an unfair advantage. Even though I can't remember the hook states, I can sometimes tell who's on death hook by the way the other survivors are trying to take hits for them.

  • As a relatively new player myself, I have good games occasionally but I'm still pretty terrible at Survivor. But I hope my advice is still useful.

As far as perks go, there's not going to be much in your arsenal when you first start playing. I started playing the game with Dwight, but knowing what I know now, I would probably start with Meg.

Her Perks are all great. Sprint Burst will give you some defense against tunnelling, allowing you to get away from the hook after being saved very quickly. If you can also break line of sight, Quick & Quiet will let you vault or jump into a locker silently and can be a good way to lose the killer. Combo this with Lightweight and you'll be difficult to track.

Adrenaline is the only one I don't rate too highly for beginners. I rarely see the end game, so I consider it to be a perk for more experienced survivors who are more likely to reach this stage of the game.

When you first start playing, evading or losing the big bad should be the name of the game and should keep you alive for longer.

Other good free perks to consider are:

Kindred (good for sharing info with the team when hooked, seeing camping killers, seeing if you should go for the save and for knowing what gens are being worked on when someone else is on the hook).

Deja Vu (to see the three closest together gens and to get a speed boost for repairing them). I would be cautious using Deja Vu however. These parts of the map are usually where the killer will be patrolling the most.

If you're on Console, Kate and Feng are also free characters and have some great beginner perks too (Windows of Opportunity to learn looping from Kate and Lithe, Alert and Technician from Feng).

Watch Killer streamers to better understand their powers. There's a lot to learn in this game!

And don't worry about ever escaping. I almost never do. For now, just focus on improving and having fun being utterly terrified.

  • I swapped it out for Fearmonger during the killswitch. But under normal circumstances, I'll almost always happily waste a perk slot on Lightborn.

Just let me chill and hook my survivors in peace. Besides, it's always good for a laugh. So hilarious to see a survivor try that one more time to blind you with their useless flashy as you're rushing towards them.

  • Wraith is probably one of the strongest free killers in the game. Definitely the strongest with the lowest skill floor to become decent with him. Plus, lots of general perks are great on him (Sloppy + Jolt + Fearmonger + NOED). He's also good at camping and tunnelling, so it makes sense to me that he might attract more players with "win at all costs" play styles.

I have the feeling that a lot of Wraiths are mostly newer or intermediate players, but still quite serious about getting a 4K in every trial. Eventually they'll move on to Blight/Wesker/Nurse when Wraith isn't getting them consistent results anymore.

Unfair generalisation, perhaps? But that's my theory, anyway.

  • It depends. I'm careful if I'm trying to level a new character cheaply or on the lookout for specific perks, items or add-ons. But if it's a character I play a lot (like my Legion), then I already have 50-100 of my favourite add-ons already, so I might just hit the auto buy button and let it do its thing.

I only really put points into a character's blood web if I absolutely need to (like if I got a new perk in the shrine). I don't care about prestige level at all and usually only P1 to unlock perks to use with my mains. Nobody can see your prestige until endgame as Killer anyway and I probably wouldn't enjoy the tunnelling / added pressure of expectation that might come with being a high prestige Survivor.

I also tend to favour no item perk builds on my survivors. The amount of BP I'd have to spend to get the items I want, knowing I'm almost certain to lose them in the next trial anyway just isn't worth the cost imho.

  • I don't like tedious slowdown builds or using cheesy strats for easy 4Ks. I would hate to win by hard tunneling and tunneling off hook. Or by camping when it's not the necessary play (the last gen is about to pop and you need to hook someone nearby, for instance). Or slugging for the 4K to deny hatch. But I will slug for pressure or try to hold a 3 gen if it's my only option to turn the tide or gain some hooks. Mostly I play to enjoy the greasy fast speed of my power, vaulting and chasing after Survivors as my Legion.

But I don't like to get bagged at the gates or insulted in chat. So I keep the chat window closed most of the time and stay away from the exit gates if I get the vibe my opponents want to BM. That way, I can easily avoid fun games being soured by poor sportsmanship.

Maybe because I play a lot of Survivor (about 50/50 for both roles), I simply don't want to play like the Killers I seem to get in the majority of my Survivor games. That said, I've definitely played against Survivors that clearly haven't enjoyed my playstyle. At the end of the day, I can only play by my own rule book and the rules I consider to be fair.

  • But it's super easy to farm BP as Killer. Most of my Killer games net me over 30K in BP. Consequently, I barely ever run out of my favourite add-on. Survivor on the other hand... I'm lucky if I can hit 15-20K BP per game (less than 10K if the Killer sweats).

I get so much Killer BP that I end up spending most of it on my Survivors anyway.

  • Hate to say the Xeno, because I don't regret buying it as such. I mean, it's the Xeno! Of course I'm still going to play Xeno from time to time.

But I'm disappointed with just how utterly useless I am with this Killer. Nonstop easy 4 man outs makes me a little sad to play as it to be honest. I guess at least one of my Killers is at a high enough MMR for me to get decently competent survivors in most of my games, regardless of the Killers I choose. I guess I just need to put more practice in.

Also maybe the Knight? I've never, ever played a game with him but I bought him only for his perks, so no regrets really.

How you can chill when killer is tunnelling you or one of the your teammates?

Or when garbage matchmaking teams you with very bad teammates.

I just can't see how people are chilling as solo survivor.

The difference is that in the survivor role you can usually move on from a bad game pretty quickly (unless the killer is slugging and bleeding everyone out. A pretty rare occurrence).

But there is no escape from a bad killer game however much you wish it would end. Some survivors will keep you hostage by refusing to pop gens just to torture you into DCing. You are trapped with 4 people who want to make you regret ever installing this game. I had a few early experiences like this and it wasn't much fun.

Honestly, I only solo Survivor and nothing I have ever faced in Solo Q has ever been a worse experience. Now I can handle it, but when I first started playing I really did let it get to me.
