I have zero idea how you tried to connect and compare 4% self unhook to tunneling? That’s very much giving me you’re trying to appeal to emotions but they’re completely different subjects and tunneling is a valid strategy, there’s nothing strategical about luck (4%).
And as to me looking for a reason I have yet to receive any. Most I’ve been getting is it’s “funny” and I don’t know what’s funny about a killer working overtime making all the right plays to comeback for them to lose it all to a 4%.
But the best “answer” I’ve seen here is that there’s already too many perks and offerings associated with 4% like slippery meat, luck offerings ect that for the devs to out date this mechanic would be impossible
I'm sorry if I upset you, that wasn't my intent. I undertand tunneling and 4% unhoook possibility are not the same thing, I brought it up because in my opinion, they are 2 things that do not require perks that may help swing a game in one direction or another, though one is a much higher risk. You may believe it is outdated and should be taken out of the game, and you're entitled to that opinion. (there are several strats or perks that many believe are outdated, we all have opinions on this). But it doesn't seem to affect the games of the general playerbase so it's unlikely this will change. I'm sorry you yourself are struggling with this 4% chance of unhook, hopefully it won't be as much as a problem for you in the future. Good luck in the fog.
-
I think it's still in the game because the chances of it actually working are so very slim. And it's "basekit" the same way any killer can tunnel "basekit". I personally wouldn't care much if it went away as it does much more harm then good imo, but I also don't think it's very problematic. Genuine question though, are you actually looking for a valid reason why it should still exist or more so just wanting to vent about your grievances with this mechanic? Just looking at your other replies to some people's reasonings as to why it should still be here, it seems you're more so annoyed and looking for validation rather than trying to understand. No judgment btw, I feel that way about the perk Knockout. Personally I can't stand the perk and I don't think it should exist but that's neither here nor there.
-
I've said this in other posts about this topic and I will say it again here because it's relevant and I still believe could be a possible solution. Like you said in your post, I both agree and understand that tunneling is simply the easiest way for killers to win in this current state of the game, and it is unrealistic to expect killer mains not to play as easy/efficient as possible, just as it is unrealistic for killer mains to expect survivors not to primarily focus on gens.
I am a Solo Q survivor main, but when I've spoken with killer mains who actively tunnel and why they do it, majority of them do it simply because it's the best way to secure at least 1 kill, and to establish a great deal of pressure, as you stated a 3V1 is much easier to win than a 4V1. This pressure is typically blamed by the speed of gens. This is my idea, I think that tunneling should reflect gen speeds. For example, when a killer consecutively hooks 1 survivor , then generators get a repair speed buff. When a killer spreads hooks (as in doesn't hook the same survivor twice in a row), gens recieve a slow-down. This enables the killer to tunnel if they desire but it is not longer the most optimal way to play, and at the same incentivises killers for numerous hooks. This obviously in return, gives all 4 survivors a chance to play the game, and discourages playing selfishly, because if one of their teammates gets hooked- everyone suffers because gens are now more difficult to complete. Thoughts?
-
What I’ve never understood is how contradictory the community is when it comes to prestige. They will say “prestige means nothing” and then lobby dodge or hard tunnel that p100 person out. Then it’s “prestige does not equal skill” but then also acknowledge that someone with a high prestige means more hours which is the only way to “git gud” at the game. And of course theres “why am I a p2 getting versed with p50 it’s not fair” I don’t understand the point of allowing killers or other survivors see your prestige level. It only leads to unfair standards and unrealistic expectations.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/405791/soloq-win-rate-40-for-now
It all depends on the build and the player. I only play Solo Survivor, because I love the Challenge and i don't want to offend anyone, but SWF feels like cheating to me.
They released In the escape rates (these rates did not include DC btw) that even in top 5% mmr SWF that you only have 8% chance more of escaping than solo q. It’s at 48% while solo is 40%. I avoided SWF for the same reason, cause I used to believe that it was this super OP role and I would avoid it because I was trying to be courteous to killer mains. But then the stats were released and I realized it isn’t as bad as killer mains say. It’s not even a 50% chance of survival. Just like how solo isn’t as bad as survivor mains say (myself included). I used to think solo was like 20-30% survival but the stats show it’s 40% along with duos, and trios. Full swf without high mmr is only 43%. So if you wanna play solo just cause it’s fun then totally do it! But don’t feel guilty about playing SWF. It’s not as OP as we were made to believe.
-
Well, I apologize to the SWF players, for believing that they are ridiculously over powered and are making Solo Q games suffer. And I apologize for my own ignorance in regards to exclusively playing Solo Q, in thinking that Solo was in a really bad state right now when clearly it's not. Really puts things into perspective. I avoided playing in SWFs for a long time because I felt that it was a huge disadvantage to the other side and felt guilty for it and now it seems that it was silly of me as I am most certainly not in the top 5% of players and even if I was there's only a very small advantage that still doesn't even get me to 50% chance of survival. My chances are around 40% regardless if I'm laughing alongside friends or not. I feel stupid lol.

They keep lights out mode and give survivors basekit Kindred for 10s and killer basekit BBQ for 5 secs for the mode.
Continue bringing in new game modes until they bring out DBD 2.
Ranked, casual and 2v8 will be great.
I would love a casual v competitive mode. I think it's a great idea. And to ensure it stays casual or competitive, only certain perks, itmes or add-ons could be allowed in casual.

In a world with 0 perks, survivors win every time. Unless you are talking about the "average" solo queue survivor experience. There really isn't any debate on this. At the highest levels, there are a reason every tournament has special rules and scoring systems and handicaps in place (against the survivors) because without them survivors win with 3-4 escapes every game.
I've just edited my post, I do mean exclusively Solo. Sorry for not making that clear.
-
Something that has always bothered me about tunneling is this idea that, "Yes, it sucks for that singular survivor but just do gens and you can get out." Because in most of my experience in Solo Q, (I have approx 1,152 hrs) when someone is tunneled out of the game it almost always leads to a 3k or 4k. Tunneling doesn't just suck for that one person, it sucks for the entire team, which is why so many killers do it- because it's the easiest way to win.
I understand it's the most efficent way to play the game right now, so I won't be angry at you for taking advantage of it, but don't hide behind this sentiment of, "It's just sucky for 1 person" when it literally effects the entire team and overall state of the match, and you know it does which is why you do it. I personally think tunneling should impact gen repair speeds.
Tunneling a singular survivor that has been hooked consecutively gives gens a repair buff, taking less time to complete them. And spreading hooks, give gens a slowdown, rewarding killers for actually taking the time to chase and getting various hooks. Tunneling can still be done if a killer really wants to do it, but it is no longer the most opitmal way to play as it doesn't give you the pressure that it used to, while rewarding you with slowing gens down for going after others, helping put a stop to "gen rushing".
Hooking multiple survivors multiple times should be REWARDED and right now it's just not, and you can't expect every killer to knowingly make the game harder for themselves by going out of their way not to play as optimally as possible. They are still making a conscious decision to play that way, it's still a choice, I've had plenty of killers that didn't need to tunnel to get a 4k at 5 gens- but it IS the most effective way to play the game right now as there are no downsides (unfortunately). It's little risk and high reward.

Killer: "It seems like it's really easy for you guys to fly through the gens, by the time I got one hook, you were already 60% done with your objective."
Survivors: "Just pressure better."
Killer: *Puts on Knockout and makes survivors have to stop doing gens and search for downed teammates*
Survivors: "NOT LIKE THAT!!"
I'm sorry if that's the impression this post gave off. To clarify each of these games has happened at the start from 5 gens, it's not as if they simply weren't getting any hooks and defaulted to this. We never got farther than 2 complete gens in any of the games. And they wouldn't ever hook anyone, they would just slug and hump and wait. The point of my post was just to ask if this is becoming a more common occurance for anyone else or if it's just bad luck for me.

Are people figuring out you can break the game by running Knock Out, Sloppy Butcher and never hook anyone?
Its almost impossible to win a game like this, as survivor
Solo Q, I dare to say its impossible, at least 3 will die
With a 4-man SWF, only if they are really pro and can loop the killer for minutes
Oh no :( I hope I don't run into this more. I understand that killers struggle with SWF and that it's regarded as unfair so I don't play it. But Solo lately for me has been a complete slaughter. Like 27 losses in a row 3k and up slaughter. I don't want to contribute to unbalanced gameplay by going in as SWF but I also would love to play the game a little more and not die at 3 gens every time.
-
I think it's the reputation that SM has obtained which makes people DC because even though this "3 gen solution" is changing the game, the players who played SM that way did not change. They were willing to do whatever it took to win, even if it meant just camping a 3 gen and slugging. I don't think it's great to put certain killers or survivors in boxes per say, but there are common playstyles associated with each. And some people don't want to play with someone that would draw the game out like that and make it as unfun as possible for a 4k. I'm not justifying just giving up instantly cause it's bad for game health, but just cause one aspect people hated about SM might possibly be changed doesn't mean that the player base who used that method has changed. I do wish you luck in the fog though.

There was such a great turn out for the first community question thread! Thank you all so much for the great responses and feedback!
For the second community question, we are flipping the script and focusing on the Survivors!
Who is your favourite Survivor and why?
Are you interested in a specific Survivor's backstory? Or maybe you enjoy the perks that came along with the character. Maybe you find Mikaela's outfits to be the most fashionable (like me)! Or maybe, Dwight! (That is all)
Regardless of the reason why The Survivor is your favourite, share it with the community!
I look forward to reading your responses!

Dwight! I love all of his perks and his design. I love that he's anxious and somewhat shy, almost insecure. I feel like most of the other survivors are all very confident which is great but it's nice to see a survivor who doesnt' seem to be enjoying their time stuck in the entities realm haha.
-
If the killer wasn't able to completely ignore hatch by slugging the last 2 survivors I would agree that it is unfair. But most of the time killers wont even bother hooking the last survivor so they can avoid hatch all together. They just slug and wait and then down both of them.

Killer prevention system will never work since the killer player queues up to play as a killer and killers are not equally popular. Add in the fact that 4 survivors can all have a different last faced killer and getting games is going to take forever.
Ohh yeah that's a good point. That would be so hard to try and make happens since all 4 survs might have had a different killer. Well I can see why it's not possible to make it happen now. Thanks for your time :)

Solo queue is hell. Always has been, probably will never change. If it's not bad enough on it's own, it's compounded by a janky matchmaking system and imbalanced population on one side or the other throughout the day. Even if by some miracle you get a killer that is roughly your MMR, the chances of the other three survivors being in that same category are slim. You may be able to hold your own against the killer, but the rest of your team folds like lawn chairs.
As much as you probably don't want to hear it, Crows is pretty dead on about how it works. If you're playing survivor in solo queue, you're not on a team. You're in a group of people who share the same goal, and will (loosely/poorly) cooperate until it doesn't look like an escape is possible, then it's everyone for themselves.
Just be cautious, as some tactics will get you banned. Like if you're one of two people left, the other survivor gets caught, the killer will try to get that survivor to work with them to find you. Since there are no aura blockers for survivors seeing other survivors (though there really should be), except ducking in a locker for a bit, any downed survivor can see all the other survivors across the entire map. The killer will down them, then pick up/drop them repeatedly until they stand up any try to get them to go point you out. If you can catch video of it it's a bannable offense for that survivor. Since it's not progressing the trial by hooking or bleeding out the survivor, I'm sure an argument can be established on why the killer shouldn't get off free, either.
Also, as an fyi, when the trial is going badly, or against a killer that's known to drag trials out indefinitely (SM, Knight, slug build Onryo, etc.), or for way too many other reasons to list, some survivors will leave, either DC or hook suicide. If leaving via hook, proper etiquette is to leave them be and grab as many points as you can. Pulling them off the hook will not only not change things, but it can be detrimental to the survivor that pulled them off (both in missed points and rapidly increasing annoyance).
Say what you will about DBD, if you've played it a while you'll either develop a tough skin or some form of PTSD. Plus it makes even other 5h177y games seem like buckets of joy.
I see the point in playing as if it's not a team game but I don't think it's the right attiude to have nor the way the game was intended. People that only play for themselves who leave their team to bleed out for 4 min, letting them die on their first hook, or hiding in a locker the entire match and waiting for hatch are not good for the overall health of the game. Now you can play the game how you want, sure, but playing like this makes you a really bad teamate and you're definitely not playing the way the game was intended. If you were meant to only focus on you and you alone then you wouldn't get rewarded for protection hits, saves, heals, distracting the killer etc. Playing as a team is how the game is meant to be played. I may still be relatively new to the game but even I know that playing for hatch every game, refusing to get saves, refusing to heal others and going out of your way to sandbag other people is not the way to play the game. It's not a battle royale. I think if people want to play that way then DBD isn't the kind of game for it, or maybe they should only stick to killer since there's no objectives focused on helping others.
To answer your fyi, I don't unhook people if they're clearly trying to get out of the game. I myself will try and get out of the game via hook if there's only one other person left so they can get a chance at hatch.
Anyways, thanks for the feedback. GLIYN :)

I have to disagree with you.
To quote you, directly:
"Because it feels really bad and I'm starting to wonder if I wasted a bunch of money in this game because I thought it was something 'different' when I first started playing and now that I have a decent amount of hours in if this is the 'real' game and if I played this version of the game in the beginning I would have never played it or invested so much time and money and got my friends to buy it."
You decided DBD was a team game, but outside of SWF, it's not. It's not a co-op, and as long as that is what you are looking for, you are going to be disappointed with the experience.
You asked if it was something different than you expected when you purchased. It is.
You asked what the survival rate in solo Survivor should be like, correct? You were told if you play altruistically, it's going to be very, very low. This is true, and is not going to change, even if you feel it's not fun, or fair.
You asked questions, received honest answers, and seem unhappy they answers are not what you hoped. I understand, but the truth is the truth. If it's not the sort of game you like, so be it. It doesn't mean the successful players are "doing it bad/wrong/toxic". It just means it's not the game you were hoping for.
Also, you are mistaken. I can play solo Survivor and still "win" (i.e. escape) without ANY teamwork at all. Hatches and "Last Survivor" perks exist for a reason. Have you seen "Sole Survivor"? It's not the only perk like that ...
If you don't believe me, just spend 15 minutes searching these forums. DBD is balanced around SWF (the "team" game you are looking for). Solo players are in a dog-eat-dog world of misery and near hopelessness. The get the worst of the worst. Trying to save them all is virtually guaranteeing you will die most every time. The sort of game where you could play like you want, in solo Survivor, would absolutely ruin the game for Killers.
Again, don't take my word. It's great YOU personally don't think the game is supposed to work this way, but I've been playing this for over half a decade. Spend a few minutes searching these forums and you'll find the exact same conclusion for YEARS.
Sorry it's not what you hoped to hear.
I think the difference is I don't see this game as a battle royale game. (as far as survivor is concerned) I think it's team oriented because the objectives and mechanics in play for survivor ivolve playing altruistically. Taking protection hits, getting saves, healing others etc. I don't believe this game was meant to be played ignoring everyone else. Obviously there are smart decisions and dumb decisions, unsafe hooks or healing right in front of the hook while good intentioned - lead to easy downs. I'm not saying you should always sacrifice yourself for others but to actively ignore your teammates and refuse to participate in heals or saves I think is very unhealthy and not the way the game was designed to be at all. You are totally in your power to play that way, but I don't think I'm the only one that thinks it's wrong.
I'm sorry if it seems like I'm, 'asking a question and don't like the answer' becuase honestly my question was if the rate in which I was losing was normal, and people told me not to worry because it was. The only person I disagreed with was you just based on the way you think solo should be played. And while the losing rate was surprising to me that it is indeed the average of most SoloQ players, it makes me feel a little better because alot of what I hear is how easy survivor is and that's why I was so confused because I was losing so often but if everyone says it's so easy then maybe I'm just the worst you know? Haha. But luckily everyone here said that my rate of loss was normal and that killers are supposed to get more 'wins' so now It makes sense.
In any case I wish you luck in all your future matches and I hope I didn't upset you in any way as it wasn't my intent. For the record I don't think you're a bad person or toxic or anything just because you play a certain way. I'ts a game and the way you play the game has no reflection on who you are as a human being and I mean no disrespect to you whatsoever, even if I disagree with your particular playstyle. Thank you for taking the time to respond and offer your perspective. gliyn!

So, your first problem is you want to play as part of a Team, but think that's what Solo Survivor is about.
It isn't. That's what SWF is for.
Solo is about "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", but understanding screwing those people over when needed is the way to maximize your survival. Help them when it helps you, but use them when your trying to live.
Getting chased? Run to a Survivor aura working a gen. Safest bet you'll find to pull a Killer off you.
2 down with 2 gens to go? Hide. Try to be last and find the hatch.
Somebody gets injured and is being chased when the last gen is finished? Go straight to the exit, open the gate, and GTFO.
If you are not doing these things, and similar, your Survival Rate doesn't mean much about the state of the game. There is often one or two people who feel like they need to "save" everyone. Those are easy kills, even after the gates are open, and they are the main reason you see camping. I saw a "hero" today run to unhook after the gates were open, get hooked instead, and watched the player they saved run out. It was hilarious, but the "hero" has no business complaining about their survival rate in those situations.
SOMEBODY is usually going to die. You are the only person who can guarantee it will be you.
I totally understand your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. I personally think it’s this kind of thinking that makes the game miserable on both sides. Playing as selfishly as possible will not only ensure that nobody wants to ever play with you, but also damages the reputation of the community and the game itself as being unbalanced, unfair and toxic. DBD solo is unique in that sense that you can play the game perfectly independently - but still not win because of the team. You could win all your chases, get saves, complete gens but if your team gives up or doesn’t pull their weight you’re simply screwed. Solo requires you to play as a team, you cannot win on your own, and frankly I believe it’s the way dbd is supposed to be played. It’s a game and it’s important to remember we’re all just trying to play it.
I do appreciate hearing your opinion even if I disagree. Thanks for the advice.

So, I'm still relatively new to the game - meaning I have only been playing less than a year. However, I was hooked instantly and I now have around 606 hours. I mainly play survivor and SoloQ. I've played killer a handful of times and even though I wasn't too bad at it, I just didn't enjoy it as much because I prefer trying to work with a team. Anyway, I've been through some very high highs and very low lows with this game so far, but I have never felt quite this...dejected? I've been keeping track of my past matches for awhile, everything down to the killer, how many kills they got at which stage of the game, etc. Mainly because I have been feeling like I've been doing nothing but losing over and over and over again.
I believe most of everyone agrees that SoloQ is considrered the hardest way to play this game, but that's also why I like it because you never know what you're going to get and the challenge makes it fun. I do believe as well that SoloQ is how the game is supposed to be played, as SWF tends cater too much on one side. That being said, I understand many people lose SoloQ games but usually you can kind of even out the wins v losses. That's how the game is meant to be, fair for both sides, so lose/win 50/50 ish.
Out of my recent 47 matches, I've survived in 12.
35 of those are matches where I don't survive.
4 of those are matches are when only I died.
3 are 4ks at 5 gens
4 are 4ks at 4 gens
10 are 4ks at 3 gens
And the rest are at 1 or 2 gens or when the exit gates are powered etc. Luckily only 4 of those matches featured DC's in the beginning of the match. That being said, my question is....is this what SoloQ is supposed to feel like? I haven't been playing for as long as most of the community so I don't know if this is considered normal. I ingest alot of information about DBD all the time and it's always talking about how easy survivor is, and so having so many games like these days and days in a row makes me question if I'm just a really trash player? But then again out of 47 matches only 4 of them are when I'm the only one that dies so I don't think I'm that bad. I like to consider myself as average as I can sometimes do really well and somtimes make mistakes.
So...is this what it's supposed to be like for an average player? Because it feels really bad and I'm starting to wonder if I wasted a bunch of money in this game because I thought it was something 'different' when I first started playing and now that I have a decent amount of hours in if this is the 'real' game and if I played this version of the game in the beginning I would have never played it or invested so much time and money and got my friends to buy it.
I keep going cause I'm like, surely things will get better this is just a rough patch! Afterall, everyone always says "Move on. The next match will be fine" but I keep moving and things don't get better. So, is this what all of SoloQ DBD is? Is this the norm? Is this the way it's supposed to be?
Thanks for reading, sorry it's long. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you everyone who replied. It seems that this is normal which is both reasurring and disheartening at the same time. It's nice to know I'm not super bad and that my averages are normal like other people. It's also kind of shocking to me that it isn't 50% like I had previously thought. All the talk about balance I assumed they meant balance between killers wins and survivor wins. But it seems that balance is actually only around 28% success for survivor which stings a bit not gonna lie. In any case, I appreciate the information.

Hm yeah I could see how that could be hard to counter for killer. But does this mean that there is nothing to be improved upon with this? I don’t think anyone is arguing that it’s fair but is the answer; yes it’s unfortunate it’s difficult/nearly impossible for the survivor but since it would make things difficult for killer then it is what it is? Not trying to sound rude it just feels kinda unfair. Sometimes DC are legitimate as well as in bad connection/lag. It’s happened to me before. It feels kinda scummy to acknowledge the issue but not try and figure out a solution for it. (Not saying you’re doing that I just mean in a general sense) Again not trying to sound rude I’m sorry if I come across that way! Just genuinely frustrated with this and I think it’s an actual issue.
Maybe DCs could get punished more? Even though that’s unfair to those that actually lose connection but maybe that would discourage it more?

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/372557/thoughts-on-survivor-dc-and-gens
The feature of reducing gen count upon DC would need HEAVY and complicated case by case restrictions to not be abusable.
For example, 4 gens done, 2-8 hooks, one survivor goes down and instead of getting deathhooked they DC. Last gen gets auto finished/deleted and the other survivor can already wait at the further or both exit gates. A "DC for hatch 2.0".
But also an early DC is detrimental for a killer with this feature. If a DC ends up in an auto powered gen, then the killer loses all the time they wasted on the DCing survivor with nothing to show for it.
In the worst case: one gen deleted, 3 other over 50% done and probably no idea where the other survivor are. So the 3 survivors aren't pressured which might end up with 1 gen, 3 survivor alive and 0 hooks.
Which is way worse for the killer than the old "4 gens for 3 survivor when one didn't load into the match".
I've always thought there should be a timer of sorts that would let a survivor give up if they wanted to. Something like 40 seconds of being slugged consecutively, or if your bleedout bar has hit a certain threshold like 50%, if no other living survivor is within 30 meters of you then you get the option to close your eyes and give up, causing you to die without needing to wait the full timer. I've had games where I've been bled out, or had to watch my friend bleed out for the entire 4 minutes because the killer just wanted to stand over them humping their body or whatever to "show who won", you can't possibly escape, you cant stand up, they wont kill you, and if you DC you lose anything you earned for that match. It's unfun, non-interactive, and nobody should have to put up with this abysmal waste of time if they don't want to. There isn't even a benefit to the killer for doing this other than their "earned 4k" (which is what they like to call it sometimes).
We should have the option to die if we want to, because there are even times where you crawl to a hook and the killer refuses to pick you up. They will literally wait for your bar to deplete before hooking you and that makes it even worse. This type of gameplay has to go. At least camping and tunneling is over pretty quickly, but a full bleedout is an eternity, it's over half the time of a normal game spent on the ground unable to do anything about it.
Thank you! Happy to know I’m not the only person who’s thinking this. I feel like it’s taking the game hostage even though others disagree. Most of the time theres not a good reason to slug the entire team and there’s never a good reason to let them all bleed out. Plus I think being able to take away the entire hatch mechanic is not right.

Perks... We All Got Some... Or At Least I Would Hope So...
DBD has a hundreds of perks, and while there are definitely perks that are going to be in the meta, Id like to see what are some "niche" or "underrated" perks the community likes to use from time to time.
For me, Id have to say (for Killer) it would be Mad Grit, Forced Penance, and/or Dark Devotion; and (for Survivor) Self Preservation, Hope, and For The People.
(Also yes I did use the image you see on Developer Updates for this... what can I say, it fits extremely well for the topic, and it fits across the text-box perfectly. I hope BHVR does not mind me using it.)
Aftercare I think is very underrated. Bond is a good perk of course but it has a limited range and it’s only visible to you. I love using Aftercare cause not only can you see your team at all times because there’s no limit in range but they can see you! It’s super handy when trying to find a gen or seeing where someone is being chased etc.

From what I understand it's not a constant thing there is a step you have to do to get the big to work which again is why it's not KS it's not a game breaking bug.
Wasn’t inner healing kill-switched for a bit though? Something with it activating whenever someone cleansed a totem even if it wasn’t you? I don’t think it was game breaking either but I remember they did turn it off for a bit. I feel like this is a similar but it feels very exploitative.
