Stopped reading here: "Perk insta downs: NOED, Devour Hope, Make Your Choice, Rancor, Haunted Grounds, Iron Maiden"

Iron Maiden, lol I havenever even had it proc let alone get a kill from it, Devour Hope LOL good luck ever seeing tier 5, I have ran it one some killers TRYING to get it to proc, never ever seen it hit tier 5.

If you are using those perks as proof, you need to play killer more and run those perks, youll find you dont get much from them

Well, those are the insta down perks. Just laying it all out. Some are better than others no doubt. Elsewhere in this thread you will see MoM, Soul Guard, Lithe, Sprint Burst and Balanced Landing discussed as 2nd chance perks.

Damn @NuclearBurrito didn't come into this expecting an essay but massive props for writing one.

While the effort is applauded his conclusion that second chance perks are worse because killers are surprised by them is laughable. Knowing the insta down Oni is charging for you doesn't lesson the end result, I still went from full health to the hook in one hit. Conversely if you are surprised by DS or Borrowed Time then you need to pay closer attention to who you are hooking and always prepare for the worst.

    Is that so?

Hf playing against 4 people wearing the exact same outfit, you can down another survivor, hook him/her, repeat yet you can still be hit by DS.

    1. How often are all the survivors all wearing the same outfits. Not often. 2. If thats the case you can use the names. 3. If all else fails expect it every time.

This just shows how much bs ds actually is, an obsession doesn't mean there is ds but only there could be ds. There are other perks which create obsession including perks of the killer. A single perk so powerful you have to expect that all have it, even when only one carries it.

Also literally every instadown there is can be negated by portable endurance.

If you down the recently unhooked survivor and you aren't at least thinking about the possibility of DS that's on you.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/171266/2nd-chances-vs-insta-downs

The difference is that not only you get to use DS and DH if everything goes well, but four people, which makes many, many second and third chances in total, with very little effort (passing a skill check or "x" or whichever letter DH is on a keyboard).

Also, many things are avoidable in terms of one hit. Oni's rage can be easily outstealthed. Does anyone take GF's insta down seriously? The other day I read in another thread that killers dont even use stalking much but just play him stealthy, as it is SO easy to deny him stalking. Different with Michael tho, depends on the situation very much, however every team should know that common group swf plays aren't effective against him and that a trial with Michael should be stealthy and ideally spread out. Traps behind windows are possible to find and destroy / avoid, esp since there are perks that make this utterly easy (even if no one plays them), making traps generally useless (in theory). Hex totems don't fit the comparison either, because many things can help making them completely useless (Totem perks, map knowledge). I don't know why being grabbed during xyz is on the list, as this is the most easily avoidable thing on the list.

The difference between all those things and 2nd chance perks is that survivors can do a whole lot about it all, if only the decide to take the time and not rush all 5 gens. The killer can't do anything about a survivor pressing DH to erase their own mistakes, way more than 2 or 3 times. And he can do even less about 4 people doing that. DH really is the worst though. For killers, DS and BT are both avoidable too, it's in the killers hands to not tunnel / camp. But DH is gonna win most chases for a good survivor or at least buy soo much time, esp during these fast paced games... look at it like this: if 4 people buy x time by lenghtening chases, it's okay to make them invest time elsewhere, e.g. finding totems.

Dead Hard is the toughest one? I can see not expecting I t the first time in a match, but after that you gave to bait it, let the survivor use it then hit them. Sound like you may be playing too aggressively if you keep getting fooled by it throughout the match. And survivors can only use it once per chase AND only if they are injured. If they are full health DH is nullified with an insta down.

  • @NuclearBurrito said:

    Any questions?

Your surprise VS expectation theory is laughable. Killers know when to expect second chance perks. It shouldn't come as a surprise to get hit with DS, you see there is an obsession. And people don't mind devour hope because its impressive? To get 3 hooks? Seems like BS to me, every time. And this idea that killers earn their insta downs is a joke. I know when a Ghost Face exposes me from looking at me for a few seconds with no terror radius hardly feels earned. Yes its a horror game and I'm not suggesting we get rid of insta downs, though a lot of times it does seem jnfair. Just saying that survivors start out with the expectation of being able to take a certain number of hits in a game. Sort of like lives. Killers gave a good number of ways to take some those away. Survivors have a few ways to get some back. There is counter play to all of them. Creates a little fairness and balance.

  • @Yamaoka said:

Instadowns (powers) must be earned while second chance perks are used to make up for mistakes. Major difference.

How does the Hillbilly earn the chainsaw power?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

The difference between second chance perks and insta downs is that insta downs usually require a huge condition in order to be performed. Oni is a powerless M1 killer and incredibly weak until he gets his power and he also has to go around collecting it, in which then he gets temporarily empowered for a set duration with the ability to 1 shot.

NOED requires the killer to play with 3 perks for the entire game for an end game power boost. It can still be removed before it even activates.

Devourer of Hope requires the killer to hook survivors and be far away from them and not have the totem be cleansed. It can literally be disabled before it even does anything. Of course DoH has the whole mori aspect but I don't think anyone will complain it's an overpowered perk. It's incredibly high risk for incredibly high reward.

Make Your Choice is kind of like Devourer of Hope, except only on whoever rescued the survivor. They can just hide or play more safe for the 60 seconds, or they're already injured, in which case it does nothing.

The list goes on and on.

Compare that to something like Dead Hard, where you just need to be injured and as a result makes being injured for survivors a hell of a lot safer. There's no other attachments or conditions or requirements attached to it. It just lets you avoid damage when injured. Something like MoM would be a lot closer in comparison to Killer insta downs imo. Not quite in terms of power, but in the condition to activate it. Also of course, insta downs are kind of moot, when survivors just don't heal anyways and just keep Dead Hard because again, it makes them more safe when injured. This perk alone soft counters every and any and all insta-down attacks and perks killers have.

There are matches where survivors run DS, BT, Dead Hard and Unbreakable and they never get used. Because just like in your defense of the insta downs all the 2nd chance perks require certain things to happens first, they are situational.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/171266/2nd-chances-vs-insta-downs

Here's the thing a lot of the perks for killer insta downs have drawbacks.

Rancor requires all gens to be down and is only on 1 survivor

NOED requires totems to be up

Devour requires 3 hooked survivors to be saved while you're away and the totem not to be destroyed

Make your choice the killer needs to be a little ways away from the hook

Haunted grounds punishes totem cleansing and is only for 1 minute at most which is probably 1 maybe 2 if your lucky downs

Iron maiden really isn't much use for insta downing as it's like a 10 second expose and the survivor only screams.

On to your base kit problems.

Hillbilly requires kind of precise aim with a chainsaw to hit for the instadown.

Cannibal isn't really that great of a killer and his instadown is meh at most unless he's literally right on you.

Myers is one you have to earn through stalking which can be tedious.

Ghostface again stalking so i feel it's earned if you get exposed you can also break him out of his stalking state.

Oni is also earned as you have to hit people multiple times usually to get it.

Trapper well if you walk in the trap that's on you.

    Add-on insta downs.

Huntress hatchet insta downs are probably the strongest one on here, but you can have only a max of 3 with use of a belt add-on.

Clowns add-on requires you to actually hit someone with a bottle which isn't impossible or hard but might cost you more time than just using it for the slow.

The 2nd chance perks have drawbacks and are situational too.

The thing is, OP really did describe fairly optimal survivor strategy: Lean on second chance perks and never waste time on anything that's not a generator. Don't heal so much, don't live by "Blendies gonna blend".

That's not to say that the actual execution is always that simple, of course. But that's the general strategy.

If people find it offensive to have that laid out simply, then perhaps there's a deeper issue with the gameplay design.

And my parody is not a fairly optimal killer strategy?

  • Here, let me do killer now:

Step 1: Equip BBQ, Sloppy, Nurses and Corrupt

Step 2: Stab and hook survivors

Step 3: When survivor gets unhooked stab them again then use mori

    Step 4: Get 4k

Step 5: Go to forums and reddit to complain about DS and SWF

It rewards the killer for getting a hook and discouraged camping if it was a hex not only would they have less of a reason to leave then they wouldnt have fun and were gonna live forever rewards surivors for helping their teammates and encourages you not to sit in a corner like your rank 20 cluadet because ypure stuck in rank 20

You are confusing the triggering mechanism for the point bonus with a special ability. Both perks give points for doing a normal action. BBQ hook =points. WGLF unhook=points. These are not special abilities. They are point bonuses given for normal killer and survivor actions in the game. But then BBQ also gives the killer a special ability, seeing survivors auras, which by itself would be a powerful perk. WGLF doesn't give survivors a special ability. It only gives a point bonus. Unhooking survivors is not a special ability. And that is why the two perks are not comparable.

  • @OldHunterLight said:

Nope, survivors can get more points in other matches, waiting a minute pressing space gives you around 500 points, might as well use that minute to queue and play another match.

Struggle normally gives about 891 blood points.

  • Survivors get less point for a cage rescue VS a hook rescue too. 700 vs 1000 I think, but then they also don't get the 500 safe hook rescue either meaning they lose about 800 points per cage rescue vs safe hook rescued.

Hey theres a perk called were gonna live forever it encourages you to help your teammates which is a secondary objective and it gives you double blood points. So either youre new or have never played killer

Perks give the player a special ability. What ability does we're going to live forever give to a survivor? None. Comparing BBQ to WGTLF is a false comparison.

You'd balance the game so that pressing a button labelled as "killer" in the main menu means you'll win on average? That's not what balance means.

They expect to 3 and 4k every match. Thats why any little balance on a killer that is over performing generates 40 threads expressing their outrage and threatening to quit.

  • @TheOptimiser said:

I'd honestly balance the game so that games are more oriented towards a 3/1 ratio, so that you can feel killers have the POWERFUL role in the match and that survivors need to work HARD in order to get out, and even if they don't, they would often black pip or pip decently even if they die, if they did a reasonable amount of work in that game...

I'd feel it would be more enjoyable on both sides as it is at the moment!

Lets see how long the survivor base sticks around for that. A 3k average? You think it would be more fun for survivors if they lose 3/4 of the games they play? Because of the challenge? Killers don't like to be challenged?

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

The thing is, it was either keep item spawns low or make cakes rarer so items could be more common. People complained items were too rare so they changed it; in the end it was a lose lose scenario however.

This is true. While I like having a few event items they are just yellow med kits and flashlights. Cakes are what we need!

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/168362/reminder-billy-has-a-75-kill-rate-at-red-ranks

Reminder the last time they gave us stats was Pre hex ruin is ruined update so most of those numbers don’t mean anything anymore but this doesn’t mean I don’t agree the nerf made sense

We could use some updated stats, this is true. Are you listening bhvr? But I wouldn't say the stats don't mean anything. Do you think Billy got worse post ruin rework? I think he has probably gotten better due to his crazy map pressure. Especially with the smaller maps. This is probably why he is getting this little cool down tweak.

  • Red rank survivors are no good is such a dumb argument. Then how should the game be balanced. Bottom line is the devs use stats to decide where adjustments need to be made in the game. Be thankful they don't actually balance it on a 2K average like they have said they would like to or ALL the killers would be nerfed and all the killer main heads would spontaneously combust. Be thankful for little tweaks like cool downs.

  • DBD Truthers out in full force. When presented with statistics showing how strong killers are right now, and Billy in particular, they do everything they can to deny and discredit those stats. Billy flies from one side of the map to the other with his insta down chainsaw killing survivors about 3/4 of the time. You really don't think a little cool down is appropriate? Every other killer has some limits. While the stats are not perfect we can certainly draw some reasonable conclusions from them. After many recent survivor nerfs (most justifiable), killers in general are very powerful right now. Billy especially. The claim that he a perfectly balanced killer is a joke. Don't be a DBD Truther.

Yeah but ds is probably the best perk in the game without any bloodpoints, only an effect. Bbq is no where near as good and it has an effect and bloodpoints.

The best perk in the game? A perk that give a survivor 1 extra hit in the match and can only be used under specific circumstances for 1 minute and requires survivors to hit a difficult skill check. Killer mains are so hung up on DS its crazy.

  • @Bovinity said:

And there's our "entitled to 4k!!!!" post.

Threads over, we found that guy.

And there's our entitled killer main response post.

Threads over, we found that guy.

  • @burntFuse said:

DS lasts so ridiculously long that even without tunneling, survivors still get the benefit of it by completely failing at stealth and chases.

For 60 seconds you might have to hit a survivor 1 extra time and thats too long? Survivors deal with 1 hit downs for full matches on a number of killers and in plenty of killer perks too. Never seen so many complaints over having to get 1 extra hit.

  • The ability itself is fine and reasonable counterplay, but why give the killer double blood points on top of it? Lets add double blood points to Decisive Strike and watch killer main lose their minds.

  • @mydogmax19 said:

I strive for 4k only as a killer. Anything less is not okay.

And here we have identified the problem. The majority of killers here see a 2k as a loss. Even though killers average about a 65% kill rate (bhvr stats) its not enough for them. Survivors are still op. Its why the forum blows up at the slightest balancing of a killer like Billy now or nurse before. Its why there are 10 threads a day calling to nerf a perk that gives survivors the ability to take one extra hit for 60 seconds of the match if some very specific circumstances are met, yet one hit downs are plentiful in killer base kits and perks. They will concede moris are op but demand that keys be fixed along with them. They threaten to walk away from the game if you try to rein in their fun even a little. Getting 4ks is fun, I have played killer too, but it doesn't make for a fair game. I guess they just want survivors to accept that they going to die in about 2/3 of their matches. Lots of entitled killers on this forum so flame away, but 4/5 of the player base(survivors) know I speak the truth.

  • @cheetocultleader said:

My advice is to ask the other survivors if they're running cakes, and play killer during prime time. Otherwise, holding onto them for a blood hunt isn't a bad idea, but even games I've lost have netted 100k+.

But you won't be able to get more cakes then. Use one now and you get enough blood points to do two more blood webs thus getting two or three more cakes. Creates a positive feedback loop. No better time to use them than now.

  • Actually everyone please use your cakes. We need those 5 cake stacks to get lots of blood points so we can get more cakes. Once the event ends our opportunity is lost so use them now!!!

  • Mori after the second hook. Simple and easy fix.

Purple key only let's the user escape.

Pink key opens the hatch for 8 seconds.

    Problems solved.

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

    No.

    It has plenty of counters.

    1. Get in a locker.
    2. Behind a gen.
    3. Get close to the killer when he's about to hook a survivor.
    4. Use Distortion.
    5. Run one direction for 4 seconds then double back and run the opposite.
    6. Run really, really far so the killer won't bother coming after YOU.

Changing BBQ will cause a major uprise in campers. Extremely.

Sure it has plenty of counters. But what is the justification for also giving double blood points? Break it into 2 perks and make killers use 2 spots just like survivors have to. Imagine if kindred or bond also gave double blood points.

If you consider Nurse the weakest killer in the game then yes we can draw conclusions from them.

At high ranks she is not the weakest as the stats show. When is the last time you watched a rank 15 or so nurse. Not pretty

  • @coppersly said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1409775#Comment_1409775

They were never valid in the first place. They're just fun to look at when presented like they were.

We need stats from different ranks and based on the group size. Getting useful and meaningful stats out of that would take a lot more work.

Sure, more specific stats would be great. Can we draw reasonable conclusions from the facts we have? Of course we can.

  • @NursesBootie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1409741#Comment_1409741

Thanks for admitting that you think nurse is the worst killer in the game. Makes you look a bit...let's say special.

I don't think i want to keep discussing with you if you believe in obviously flawed and outdated stats.

Overall nurse is hard to play so the kill stats are low. At red ranks with a higher skilled player she has about a 65% kill rate. Facts are facts.. You are questioning the statistics the devs released and I am the special one? Now we have DBD truthers. Lol!

  • @coppersly said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1409741#Comment_1409741

You have to understand these stats are all generalized from a large pool of very different players in very different elos/scenarios.

If we got specific demographic stats near the top elo it would be much better. But of all players across the game? Probably gonna have wonky stats.

Sure, and? Does it invalidate them? What players do you feel it should be balanced for?

  • @NursesBootie said:

According to the stats nurse is the weakest killer in the game. Do you believe that too?

Are you asking if I believe the statistics? Yes, I believe the stats. Could we use more updated stats so the community can better understand the need for changes? Of course (hint hint bhvr). But for now we go with the facts we have.

  • And the stat deniers emerge. Like it or not the devs use actual game stats and information when making changes. What better indicator do we have than the stats?

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

    Great, another DS nerf thread.

Not a DS nerf thread. Just pointing out some killer main hypocrisy.

  • @SpaceCoconut said:

Reminder that the post also says "Please keep in mind that numbers are not everything; there are a whole bunch of factors that could influence these numbers."

Also according to those stats, Ghost and Pig have similar kill rates in NOVEMBER of 2019

And? So all killers are really powerful in this game and killer mains just complain to much about OP survivors?
