I think BHVR does collect the data. They just don't share it.
Nightlights data is not a clear representaion.
Nightlight is the most consistent data we can get, and represents the people who are actually committed to the game longterm, with knowledge. And it shows that certain killers, once you know what to do, are a one sided stomp. Just look at Sadako, put her against a team that actually understands her, she’s getting a 1K at best.
Bhvr collects from the general player base, which includes the stereotypical solo queue survivors who will throw games. The game should, probably, be balanced around knowing instead of ignorance. -

He already donates money for his membership program. This is just a little challenge he’s trying to get the devs to do. No harm or malice

I don’t think he really needed any changes. Maybe a few bug fixes, but nothing balance related.
He was a strong, but counterable killer and now…low a, maybe high b. His chase got nerfed, but the mobility will still be good at least. And I do like that reworked addon. -
At that point, your hope is to either save the slugged survivor, hide, or wait for a bleed out/hook and try get hatch.
But at that point, your team has probably lost. Nothing wrong with losing, just part of a PvP video game -
I just think he’s fun.
its nice having a killer who you can make some mistakes on, in comparison to any other killer where one mistake can lead to game over -
to rub in how they (the power role) have won?
Do i understand it? No.But it just rubs in how borqued this game and it’s community is.

Considering that the Survivor first needs to cleanse a Totem to activate the Perk, even if the other 3 Survivors all have Resurgence, you would overall not gain anything, even if you can heal them instantly. Which is probably also the reason why they added the requirement to cleanse or bless a Totem.
(But nice try trying to get Resurgence nerfed. I give it a 6/10 for your effort)
You clearly don’t understand how little that criteria means. You can find totems easily, cleanse them easily and then boom, give it to your friend who brought resurgence and now they’ll be instantly healed off hook.
You realise how much time that saves and how much pressure that takes away from the killer? They can’t come back to hook to pressure two survivors, or to tunnel one out because they need someone out due to fend going too fast, because both of them could be fully healed.
but sure, dig your head into the sand and live in your imagination where this isn’t broken. -
I get that it’s the anniversary, go big or go home, but I’m not personally excited. I’m happy for the people who wanted this, but I don’t have any connection to the films.
I hope we get some surprise licenses that we don’t expect this year, something that shocks us like Tokyo Ghoul. -

The combo does not really need a solution, it is not like it is too good. They are also not the most popular Perks with being the 29th and 32nd most used Perk (according to nightlight). And honestly, with people complaining about Diminishing Returns killing off Build variety, killing off another Build does not really seem reasonable.
IMO the Perk Combo is too situational anyway, sure you will have infinite Stake Out Stacks when you go against a 40m TR Killer on a smallish map, but you will not really get that much if you are on a bigger map against a 32m TR Killer, let alone a Stealth Killer. On the other hand, the Metaperks for Survivor grant value more consistent and are used more often because of that.
seriously? No need for a solution? This combo can do gens in about a minute, and give you enough room for Sprint Burst and Vigil, which are also ridiculous.
-
I 100% it’s a skill issue, now.
Ghoul has got nothing but nerfs, his counterplay is super easy. Just do the vault back, it’s not that hard. But it seems like nobody wants to learn how to counter him, even though he gives you free distance after the first hit and his vault is so much worse now.
-
rest in peace, Stevegull.
you will be missed.
Everyone, can we have an “Ah!” for Stevegull? -
I do agree that he’ll be really good with aura reading perks like I’m all ears, nowhere to hide and Lethal pursuer. Like Pyramid Head.
But killers don’t usually bring aura perks. They bring regression perks to try stop Gen rushing on the already way too fast gens. You won’t have to worry -
I am a firm believer that Ghoul doesn’t need nerfs.
Ghoul gets a free injury and has good mobility, but he needs an m1 down.Don’t hold W, that’s what Ghoul counters, just get as much use out of a loop as possible.

While thats true that people should play both sides, i still am always perplexed by the attitude of players of this game.
There is no other game i have ever played where i am supposed to "think about how my opponent emotionally feels about how i'm playing and adjust my playstyle to be 'nicer'"
If i'm playing street fighter, and i'm playing guile, and my opponent is zangief, you can bet i'm going to try and win by throwing 100+ fireballs while they try to get close to me. I'm not going to "empathize with my opponent about how boring that is and make the choice to NOT throw a fireball because that would be 'too mean'" Nor am i going to be the zangief player and expect my opponent to stop throwing fireballs. Nor am i going to get in close with him and start a throw loop and decide "maybe i'll just throw them twice instead of keep doing it because its mean"
It is very confusing to me that for some reason in this game and this game only i have to "think about my opponent and be nice"
Like, am i supposed to just play chess and see my opponent hung their queen and think "ah that would be too mean to take their queen for free, i'll be nice and not do that"
If a playstyle is inherently unfun for boring to play against, it is not up to the players to not play the style for fear of upsetting their opponents. It is on the developers of the game for allowing said style of play to exist, and perhaps, as in my street fighter example, it is actually designed intentionally to allow for that style of play, that could just be the answer. But you would never cry to the other player about it just because they did something "boring"
that is a good point.
I feel like the difference is the DBD matches are longer. You get zoned out by a zoner in a fighting game, at least it’ll last 3 minutes at most. But going against a bully squad? If you play well enough, it can take 10 minutes. That feels worse, leading to a larger reaction

Honestly, I don't think there's any problems anymore. I think she's pretty fair and balanced to go against.
But players are both traumatized and incapable of adapting or changing their mind.
Like mentioned, she's become the poster child for everything wrong with DBD, fairly or not. And when people are angry and frustrated with the game, they need something to blame. It largely just gets taken out on her.
Many will say that the free injury states are why they hate her, but she's far from the first or only killer to get quick injuries, and far from the only M1 or trap/setup Killer in the game. Look at Trapper, the game's first Killer! What about Plague, or Legion? Hag? Freddy before he was reworked a second time had traps, too. There are plenty of Killers that get easy injuries and do setup play.
People complain that they have to crouch against Skull Merchant's drones, yet they have no issue doing that to dodge Vecna's spectral skeletons.
People complain about the hinder and haste, but are totally fine with Clown having both be his entire kit.
Honestly, almost every complaint that is made about today's Skull Merchant is incredibly cherry-picked, because almost all of the complaints can be attributed to other Killers.
It really boils down to, PTSD from how easily she was able to capitalize on the Overcharge + Call of Brine + Eruption meta still traumatizes players.
And honestly, she's quite complicated to learn how to counter, so she used to absolutely pub-stomp.
Also the teasers for the chapter pre-release led everyone to believe that the Killer was going to be a robot, and when it was revealed to be an regular-appearing woman, many were quite disappointed since their expectations were not met and not getting what they wanted played into their hatred of the character.
Personally, I commend the devs for making Skull Merchant the first female Killer in the game to not be disfigured and not play into the horrible horror tropes of "ugliness/disability is scary." After the backlash on how regular Adriana looked, it does not appear we'll be returning to that style of regular-appearing original Killers: For example, Portia (Houndmaster) is facially disfigured.
I agree with everything you say here, except one thing: she isn’t fair and balanced. She is incredibly underpowered

I was injured and being hard tunnled off hook and this guy was just spamming drones the moment I got to anything usable. Crouching mid-chase gives me free hits as Vecna. It would have done it here too. Just that tiny slow down in your speed screws up your timing. This killer gets free Undetectable and free Hindered for doing pretty much nothing and that's obnoxius.
There's a certain group of killers with obsessive followings who I really don't like their kits (or how their players choose to play) and that looks unlikely to change if they keep playing in this manner, or if they aren't reworked.
free hinder? Not free. You have to scan about five different times for the hindering, and it’s not even that much hinder

I understand that.
When she was SM 2.0, she had a 70 something percent KR. It was confirmed on discord that these stats were achieved without factoring in DC's or suicides. I'm sure it would have been much higher including those both.
what about people who gave up, got hooked, saved, and kept giving up. You have no idea how often I see that
-
I just aim this to everyone and ask that we move on from what Merchant used to be. “Chess Merchant” is gone and she can’t hurt you anymore.
She is likely getting another rework soon, whatever it is. She recently got a few really good changes that make her a decent, but still awful, killer.I want to be able to play my favourite killer without getting insulted for the map control play style I love. I’d go play Singularity, but apparently he isn’t much better in everyone’s eyes.

People aren't ever going to enjoy this iteration.
It's like asking people to enjoy Legion. He's not even particularly strong, and people do know the counterplay, he just isn't fun to play against.
Seems to me you have two options. Either accept that SM is unfun to play against, and continue to play the Killer, or stop playing them if it affects you that much.
I also don’t see why people dislike Legion, but that’s a whole different thing. I think they’re pretty fun to go against because they have to chase you to get the down. It confuses me why people dislike these killers, while people like Huntress, Wesker, Hillbilly and Blight, even though they can end you in seconds.
like I said, it’s a different point. So Skull Merchant, as a killer that has to chase you, is despised. The first hit is just as difficult as the down. Her chases are fair. I still don’t see the issue -

bro is mansplaining dbd
what was the point of this post if you seem to know everything? you're not acknowledging when people say why they hate skull merchant and are responding saying "just crouch". i have thousands of hours in dbd and "just crouching" is the stupidest response when people complain about skull merchant when she loses no distance when you need to crouch and you lose all momentum and distance gained. i've said before she cannot be rectified and "just crouching" does not make her any more fun to go against.
it's not the same as vecna or nemi or blight or billy because they actually get slowed down when you crouch to avoid their power. either by fatigue or power animations. skull merchant could gain blood lust 3 whilst you're fighting for your life to avoid scan lines by "just crouching". on top of being forced into deep wound, on top of being hindered. — you want me to crouch ?whilst im being hindered and in deep wound too? are you unaware of how unfun that sounds ?
besides even if you do win against her i doubt it'd have been fun and it'd have felt more like a chore than anything because nobody likes her. just crouching isn't going to magnificently make people enjoy versing her so i don't know why that's your response to everyone answering your question.
I don’t know everything, that is what my post was for. I want to know why the killer I love was hated, gutted and still the most hated killer.

i hate her because her chase is boring and her scan lines are not interactive.
"just crouch" ? and lose all my distance and go down or get injured for free? nice, fun, very well played from SM !
the lasers from her drones are headache inducing if you're sat in the vicinity of one whilst on a gen or something, same with xenos flame turrets.
every skull merchant seems to play like a rat, bming, slugging, hitting on hook excessively. a lot of people who play her play her to be a dick, you see them nodding across the map because they know what they're doing. they play her for a reaction.
i must ask why you want to know why/what people hate about skull merchant and in the same post you negate anything people say. why ask people if you're just gonna respond with "just crouch"… if you read what people say there's no need to be confused as to why people hate her.
but you also said you're new so i suppose it's easy to say "just do so and so".
the problem is her entire design is a mess and no one likes her. thats just it. community is scarred by what was and only a full rework is the best solution imo. or just delete her and forget she ever happened because she is that much of a failure. but hey, at least her cosmetics are cool i guess…..
but yeah, there is still reasons to hate her. i still hate her and have stated why. there ya go.
you know, you can just crouch for a second. It’s a quick thing. Worst case scenario you only have to crouch twice if she doubles back with the scan line, but that only scans you once. It takes so long to injure, but not down.
And I tell people to “just crouch” because it’s really that easy. It’s a quick millisecond of crouching while the scan line goes straight through you -
@cogsturning said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4039311#Comment_4039311
Vecna it's like half a second. How do you crouch through a whole chase? It's not like you do one quick squat and the drones are instantly disabled.
And if the Vecna is running spellbook crouching is also useless.
you can also just crouch for a split second, it’s really that easy. And that’s all she can do
-

She had a 70% KR without hook suicides or DC's as SM 2.0
people just give up still. That lead to the bloated kill rate. I thought everyone knew that?
-
@BongoBoys said:
People don't like her drones do all the work
that’s not really how it works, because her drones are just bad. They barely do anything
-
@cogsturning said:
I would say with her recent resurfacing and me seeing more of her I still dislike her pretty severely. I had one yesterday that hard tunneled me out and just keep tossing drones up at every loop I went to, so all I could really do was hold W until I eventually got downed. Even when I thought I'd lost her when I was on death hook she was just undetectable. If that's the scuzzy playstyle I'm going to have to deal with then I'm not gonna like the killer.
Shes not my most hated though. That might be Twins, who I've also seen more of lately.
My advice for next time is to just play around the drone. It’s really easy to counter, you just crouch under the beam.
I want people to come to terms with her and start to enjoy her, and I think learning counters will help

Typical sm hater he just faced her when she was stronger and has ptsd from her like vet from war (no insult to war vets), even the fact she had always dump counterplay that is used against many dash killers (crounch tech for blight, krasue, billy, demogorgan, etc.) and for vecnas skeletons just hold ctrl for second and move.
I feel like you can do the same, just crouch for a second, with the scan lines.
but I don’t see nearly the amount of hate for Vecna. I’m just so, so confused -
@Abbzy said:
Well just go on Yt there are plenty of videos about it, but in short first she was strong in her first released version so than nerfed (little rework) came and mede her by today standarts weaker mediocre killer at best but more like c-tier, the kick was she was released into meta that had probably best synergy with her power and terms like "chess merchant"were created not like she was only killer that could hold 3gen (3 gens very close to each other which are easy to patrol and hard to be done if killer stays by them, mostly created by few reason first is map gen spawn rng that spawns them from the start and reason its problem is either killer will spot them from the start and decides to play around them and protects them or survviors have no game sence in what gens they should do first meaning theys just do gens fast but advance from one side to other so the last 3 gens that left are 3 gen and then game slows a lot and survivors mostly loose in long game because they forget to create last 3 gens that killer can hardly protect or even cant like against no mobility killer two gens across the map is gg) knight could do it or singularity but she was best at it with meta that was strong regression gen kick perks like Call of brine and overcharge, eruption (all these perks were much stronger back then and gen regression was same like in 2v8 maybe even faster just so you can imagine it how strong it was (nowdays you mostly chase survivor off gen and dont kick it if its not highly progressed but back then you always first kicked the gen).
Last and key problem that if existed back then the "chess merchant" wouldnt be able to beat strong survivor teams in long game was no gen damage limit like now you can damage generator as killer only 8 times (perks like ruin can do it more times but other regression perks just can do it only 8 times and then the gen is bloked and cant be regressed or damaged by any perk except ruin which is hex that can be romoved by destroying the totem).
So just her ability to hold certain places locked with strong regression perks that didnt required some action to be activated (like hooking from pop or pain res, or down from jolt or eruption etc.) and no gen damage limit (which is now 8 times and then killer cant regress the gen so survviors can do it and finish it) made her super hard to deal with for average teams and even comp teams which I believe beat her but it took ages like almost hour a match which was not good so instead devs just gave gens damage limit and nerfed little those gen kick perks they nerfed merchant into f-tier killer (first of its kind, even trapper wasnt ever been so low like merchant), they super hard nerfed those gen kicking perks and ruin and lastly they added gen damage regression number (its 8 now), in common devs fashion they take action little like drunk man walking they do one step forward and then two back and repeat, sometimes they do two front but mostly they stay in place but they moving.
Now they gave her super minor buffs (she is still worst killer in the game and in like top 3 most hated with ghoul and knight) and wanted to ask if its enough so they dont have to do the rework but unfortunately for them people want her reworked and not her being in this garbage state so there should be rework somewhere in 2026.
oh, she definitely needs a rework. But she’s awful now, so why is she still hated? I understand her previous abusive strategies being hated, but she’s been gutted so why is she still hated?
-
@Classic_Rando said:
As others have said, the main complaint now is that she is boring/non-interactive to face as survivor.
She is a bottom-tier killer and easy to counter, but she is so rare now that I most survivor players don’t know how to counter her, so many still give up immediately when they see her.
Just…crouch. People do it for Vecna, why not her?

- In psychology, it's called "post-traumatic stress disorder."🤣 In reality, she's a mediocre killer, but she has a good ability to "deny the loop." As soon as the survivor dares to do something similar to a loop, she drops one of her drones, and the survivor's best choice is to press W and change the loop. Obviously, it's not her fault; that's just how she works. So, at an average-high skill level, she's not a very fun killer from the survivor's point of view. The knight also suffers from the same problem.
you know, you can crouch under drone beams and they go right through you. Even then, you need a lot of scans to do anything
-
alright
@[Deleted User] said:
She had several problems on her release. Her power was very different. It used to expose survivors and there was no gen kick limit, so Skull Merchant players would drop drones on a tight 3 gen and never leave the area. This could go on for 60 minutes until the trial timed out.
The gen kick killer meta at the time was also awful to play against, so SM became the poster child for everything wrong with the game at the time.
but she can’t do that anymore. So what’s the problem?

My stats weren't the point of this post, but some of my recent killers and numbers are here, and this was before the pallet density revert:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/460944/stat-page-accuracy-test
I've never played as Blight, Ghoul, or Nurse. I do okay with Dredge, who is pretty counterable and RNG dependant. I sit about a 70% KR with Freddy and Doctor. Even lower killers I barely touch like Legion or Clown still have a 60%. As long as I can maintain that target 60% than I'm fine. Killers like Pig and Ghostface I'm not going to touch because I just don't like stealth or trap killers, but those killers 4k against me regularly as survivor.
What is it exactly that you want changed? You can't have a boycott without a set goal. My only real issue as killer is the matchmaking.
make Gen speeds slower, I suppose. Maybe nerf some of the big meta perks. When they try implement some changes around Tunneling that benefit both sides, kinda like the the one from the first attempt in the ptb, which weren’t that bad, the base kit bbq and haste, but not too much for the strong killers. And the slugging changes are fine. It’s that simple.

simply, it’s been killer matches. Mostly losses, the occasional 3k. I have had a lot more Gen rushing, hyperfocus/stakeout users and Finnese/Lithe users than I would like.
but most of my survivor matches are wins, unless I get camped during the endgame collapse by a Ghostface (weirdly, it’s happened multiple times) -

I have a lot of issues with the game in general. I feel like I have to bring corrupt intervention every game so a generator doesn’t pop in 30 seconds. I feel like I can’t have fun chases, because everyone I find is running Finnese, Lithe and gens pop so fast.
I can’t run fun, interesting builds or play fun, if somewhat mid tier killers because I’ll just lose. -
