Yeah, it's not very motivating to see that there's barely any movement on this challenge. TBH, it was also really frustrating to do. I think everyone's trying to rush and block gens right now. After 6 matches as killer and survivor where I only got one gold, I gave up and played Skull Merchant to get the other two.
-
Yes, I also preferred the Halloween event where you could bank your points and get your prize whether you lived or died. I didn't have a problem collecting the masks for this event, but it's frustrating to feel like it's out of your hands.

Darkest Dungeon 2
For killer, maybe the eyeball boss -- eyeball stalks keep popping up on the map and if survivors don't attend to them, then something bad happens
For survivor, either Grave Robber with a stealth perk and a "stronger when other players die" perk or Man at Arms with a perk that lets you soak damage. Like maybe you can tank a hit for someone else at a distance, or you start the match with 6 health states but you can never be healed. That kind of thing.
-
The rules of the event put Killer players in an awkward position. I don't think it's wrong to play normally, but I would personally feel like a jerk if I loaded in on the first day of the event and 4ked everyone before the doors were open. I don't EXPECT anyone to farm, but, I get why some Killer players might take their foot of the gas for the first dew days, while everyone's trying to get their rewards.

I've been running Deju Vu pretty much every match since it got updated and I have to agree, it feels very strong. You can see half or more of the gens all match and, assuming you always do one that's highlighted, you have a permanent 6% speed boost for nothing.
No matter what map you're on, you can always find a gen, and the gen you find is always the one that's most advantageous for you to do, and you get a speed boost while you do it.
I get that it's a band-aid fix to break 3-gens, but it does a lot more than that.
-
I had the same experience playing against Singularity. It felt like it was possible to always have an EMP in my hand just in case -- and, right now, that seems like the correct way to play: everybody take one and hold onto it at all times.
I like this suggestion, but I'm not sure how well it would work. There were a lot of situations where I would grab an EMP, blast the area around the gen beside the printer, do the gen, and go to the printer again. So, if the only difference is, grab the EMP, blast a nearby area, activate the printer again, do the gen, and pick up the EMP, there's still a pretty steady supply in the parts of the map you're actively playing.

I did it by copying people who did it to me. Throw a flashbang on the ground while the killer's picking up. It's super annoying and it works.
-
Nice!

I mean... there's something pretty on-brand about a series of posts that's like 1) launch new chapter, 2) announce what's getting kill switched because it was broken by the new chapter, 3) announce that the kill switch is also broken. I know the third thing is just bad luck or whatever, but it's funny.

Thanks everyone who replied. I eventually got it tonight -- against a killer who was struggling to even get a hook, I ran to the middle of nowhere in the swamp and made it so she couldn't hook me. Then, I chased her around and tried to get her to hook me for real because I felt like such a scumbag. Oh well.
It didn't occur to me to try to put myself in dying state when the killer's not around, but I might do that next time.
-
Yes, it's never made sense to me why someone would choose double rift fragments over double XP. Double XP gives you the extra rift fragments AND faster iri shards, so, if you need both, you're getting both and, if you don't need the rift fragments, you're still getting the XP -- it's a win for everyone.
(I also don't understand people who vote for Bloodrush TBH, because it's easy to get blood points in this game and, unlike iri shards, you can't substitute them for things that cost money).
-
I agree that the Netease skins are nice, but it kind of feels like a suspiciously high volume of premium quality cosmetics. It makes me wonder how they can afford that.
-
Yeah -- IMO, it's okay for people to farm if they want to, but they shouldn't gang up against players who don't.
-
I don't know. There's such a thing as designing your game in a way that limits opportunity for griefing. DBD seems especially rich in opportunities for griefing, and it's partly wrong of the community to exploit those opportunities, but it's still a design issue that the opportunities exist.
-
I think I understand how the game was intended to be played originally, but I'm not sure it's ever been played that way. Like, there is a design flaw where, if the killer plays in the intended way, it's often really tedious and frustrating for that player, and, if they play in a way that lets them secure a win more easily, it's tedious and frustrating for other players.
As someone who plays survivor, I would really like it if there was less camping and three-genning in the game -- but as someone who also plays killer, I get why people want to do a strategy that works.
So, I'm okay with the part where three-genning from the start gets less rewarding -- but I would like it if other strategies became MORE rewarding, too.

Being disappointed by what a corporation gave you for Pride is an important part of being gay.

Boil Over either doesn't work at all or it works too well -- those are its only settings. I don't know what I would replace it with, though, because I don't like fighting over downs in either role.
-
If the killer seems absent for most of the match, I assume I'm going to get attacked once the gates are powered. When someone gets a stunt like that to go off, I don't mind.

I don't play survivor enough to know exactly how you break a 3-gen in situations like this, but I can't imagine it's much different for Skull Merchant versus any other killer?
At least not now, since they changed how her traps work. If you disable a drone she can't just place it back until the claw trap it's associated with is removed, so everyone takes a drone and plays the 3-gen normally.
Hypothetically, I agree that that's what you would do but, in practice, I've never seen it happen. SM has 4 drones for 3 gens, and only ever one person seems to have a claw trap on. That person's getting chased and, by the time they're downed, only one person has a claw trap again.
-
I think Skull Merchant just highlights a pre-existing problem with the game, which is that you can get locked in a stalemate over the last gen where, if the killer is able to defend the gens, either the killer or the survivors would have to make a deliberate mistake in order to end the match.
If you're playing killer, it doesn't feel great to deliberately take a bad chase and let everyone escape; as survivor it doesn't feel great to deliberately go on death hook (pretty much ever, because of the way it's framed in the game).
Skull Merchant has very strong gen defense, so she's much more likely to have her matches end this way, but the real problem is that the game stalls out this way in the first place.
-
Yeah, so, once a year we get a feel-good, pro-social cake offering to celebrate the game, and it benefits us and everyone we play with, and, during the event, we can get more -- and the complaint is "I want to exclude people." Sounds like DBD.
-
What a weird challenge.
-
I actually the issue is slightly different. I played some Skull Merchant matches and I never deliberately tried to get a 3-gen, but I discovered that, once we got down to 4 gens remaining (meaning, the survivors had completed 3), it didn't really matter how far apart those gens were, because I could have a drone on each of them and find people that way.
So, if the survivors were uncoordinated, and they weren't trying to hold the claw traps and split up, it always became a war of attrition where I picked them off one at a time when they approached the drones -- not because I tried to make it that way; because it's the natural outcome of placing the drones in the place where they'll help the most -- which is over the unfinished gens.
At the moment, I'm split between thinking that's a problem and the drones should have some other use that's more attractive than having them guard gens -- vs thinking, maybe it's just a different playstyle and, once solo queue figures out the "rules" about when to take a claw trap and run away, it won't be that big a deal.
I do, however, think it's a good point that, if somebody dies, she becomes too powerful. Maybe her number of drones should match the number of survivors alive.

Getting taken hostage for an infinite amount of time at the end of a match.

After the reworks do you think eruption/no where to hide might be better now? Or do you still think overcharge is viable.
For me, Overcharge is better because I get value right away and I can see no one is waiting there to tap the gen. If you're faster than me, you might do better with eruption.

Maybe the event was only for Japanese twitter and someone made a mistake by telling us about it.
-
I agree that the skins are over-priced and the grind to get anything for free feels like it's deliberately slow and tedious.
I don't actually know the reason why, but speaking from my own experience, I have a much more problematic relationship with in-game purchases in DBD than I do in any other game. I always think I'm not going to spend money, but then I get so bored, and it's been so long since I've gotten any reward for playing -- and suddenly, I'm like, "Why shouldn't I? Why shouldn't I spend $10 if it's going to make me happy for the next three hours?"
And then, little bit by little bit, the tally of how much I've spent on this game keeps going up. And it's not out of joy or excitement -- it's not because I love whatever they just released SO MUCH that I feel I need to have it -- often I'm buying things that I initially didn't like, but then I got bored enough to pay for novelty.
And, like, regardless of whose fault it is, it feels kind of bad.
-
IDK. I usually don't have a problem being tuned in to what's happening with the rest of the team and what their general intent is. I feel like a messaging system like this would probably just make me feel like my teammates are trying to micromanage what I'm doing.
Like, yes, there are cases where we don't understand each other perfectly -- but I actually think that's okay. Part of the fun of the game is spontaneously cooperating with other people, and when you get it wrong sometimes the results are really funny.
-
I would literally never collect this, but I'm not opposed to it for people who get there. My only concern would be that maybe the people who play the absolute most would end up with too many iri shards, buy everything in the store, and then not have anything to look forward to.
-
They seem to have limited ideas for what to do with male survivor skins in general, but Jeff specifically. Let's play more with Jeff being an artist. Or Jeff living in the wilderness in Canada (IIRC). Let's find different shapes for his clothes besides the same muscle tank and baggy jeans.
-
TBH, I don't think dodging hits should be a thing. I think doing well in chase should come down to using the environment and having a good build, not spinning in a circle or wiggling side to side.
-
I don't have a four-perk go-to, but I have two go-to pairs:
- Plaything/Pentimento
- Overcharge/Nowhere to Hide
I also sometimes do Monitor/Fearmonger but I've had mixed results.
-
I think it's a more effective/less ambiguous way to detect the terror radius -- but I'm also okay with that. This is neither here nor there, but I used to feel crazy trying to listen for Huntress' lullaby, but now I have a binary visual cue for whether I'm actually hearing it or not and that's a nice QOL for me.
-
I agree it's a cool idea that SWF would negate. But, what if we used bots? Like, what if the killer had a power that created multiple copies of the survivors and most of them were bots and didn't do anything, but one of them was the killer?
-
I find a mix of people at all hours, but my theory has always been that SWF are more likely to play evenings/nights/weekends. For people with other responsibilities (jobs, kids, etc), their schedules might not line up until late at night.
-
I was chasing an injured survivor around shack as Pyramid Head and two other survivors who didn't need to be there swung in to body block me. Once they were all injured, they accidentally body blocked each other in the door and I got all three with my special attack.
-
I think everyone agrees that the normal experience in solo queue is losing, but I think how much that bothers you depends on your expectations. I've never entered a survivor match with the expectation that I'm going to win, because my only experience with it is solo q and losing. So, that feels normal to me and, if I manage to escape, it's a pleasant surprise.
-
It depends on what you mean when you say the killer was toying with the other survivor. If the killer was griefing the other survivor a lot, I can kind of understand why they would think you should prioritize trying to end the match above hiding while it continues. If it's just that the other survivor was bleeding out and it took a long time, then it's more of an "everyone was being stubborn, and this is a situation where the game design falls down" situation.
-
I mean, after the crushing disappointment of the Halloween event in 2020, my hopes are pretty modest. I want a fun activity to do, that gets me free cosmetics. That's literally all.
-
I mean, the devs didn't "say they were going to bring it to the game" they said they were testing it as part of their finisher/last standing system -- and it didn't work well during the test.
I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it come back if it's been reworked somehow, but it will take them time to do that.
-
Two survivors can definitely win against me, because I'm bad at finding people. In an average game, though, I think you still have a chance if there are two gens, and a better chance if there's just one -- but at four gens you're definitely dead.
The trick as survivor is that, if you're in that scenario, you have to keep splitting up and you have to 99% the gen and be strategic about when to pop it -- ideally at a moment when your teammate is up and away from you, so someone will still be mobile if the killer comes straight to you.
-
I'm not sure. It's not fun for anyone to have a protracted game of Tapping Unhook, and most of the time it just ends in a trade anyway... but, even if it's not fun, maybe sometimes it's advantageous to the killer for unhooking to take a long time and/or psych people out. So I don't know.
-
This is my experience, too (I actually think my escape rate is lower than 25%). FWIW, I also see survivor as a team game, and most of the random people I match with play as a team. My survival rate would probably be a little higher if I only played for myself, but that also wouldn't be fun.
-
It's been 50/50. A lot of people will still heal off hook, but a lot of people also just run away in a random direction. I'm not sure if it's because they're used to sending you to the boon or if it's a coincidence.
-
This is a good point. If the point of having the killers make all kinds of sounds when they don't have TR is that you are supposed to know they're approaching, then that seems like something that should be included in accessibility.
-
If you get someone who's good at looping, they can chain windows for a really long time -- at least with a pallet there's an end to it at some point. Conversely, when I play survivor, I get hit every time I jump through a window because I don't have the magic touch, so I lose nothing if we take some windows.
-
I love this part of the update, too.
-
I agree there shouldn't be rooms that only have one way in.
-
It's pretty common, unfortunately. It's not the majority of people, but there's a sizeable portion of the community that thinks it's okay to do that stuff.
-
Yeah, I tried to play a few survivor matches and in every one at least one person gave up or DC'd. In one, my entire team DC'd and the killer let me take hatch. i can't even get a feel for how things are right now because no one will play.
