- Just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not happening. not every killer will get 4 hooks every game, reasonable? maybe not. Understandabl?, yes
- and? isn't that the point of the game? to SURVIVE
- there was a post the other day demanding the devs nerf Spine Chill
- !!!
- . True, can't stop it, really
- !!!
- nope. I mean people seeing someone select a claire redfield from the start, ready up immediatley and not change a thing, only to get tunneled for choosing claire. I get last second switch, cause thats scummy, but there are killers out there with grudges against one specific character and decide "Hey look, a Jeff. I hate jeff and now i'll tunnel them for no reason other than because they picked jeff"
Finger guns
That's mostly when they pick certain characters that are very hard to find, specially with specific cosmetics. I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about. Wink wink.

Because they should focus more on making maps more fair. Then something like that 🤷
Are you somehow under the impression that the people who work on the matchmaking system and the people who design maps are the same? Because they are not. Both can be done simultaneously.

Ill say it for the people in the back(guessing that's you) SWF and comms are NOT an issue in this game. Map design is. Being able to create pressure with a bulk of the roster can be borderline impossible sometimes. Comms and SWF mean nothing if you're getting downs and creating pressure.
If SWF are not an issue, then why not give the killer the option to chose not to play with them?

Slapping base nerfs on SWFs would just make them use perks to offset the nerfs. Repair speed nerf? Enjoy seeing Prove Thyself on every SWF. Healing speed nerf? Enjoy seeing CoH w/medkits on every SWF. SWFs will find a way to offset any and all base nerfs, so it's basically pointless.
This doesn't make any sense specially since most of them already run those perks anyway.

A tone of things?
Ok the list of things a survivor can do is...
Dull totems, which has little impact on an actual match making them wasted time.
Hex totems, maybe. if the killer chooses to use them. However with no way of knowing it they even have one which means you may be looking for something that may end up not even existing.
And that's it. Yeah wow so many objectives. Funny thing is I would love to make it so breaking dull totems offers a reward too survivors so there would be a reason too. For example breaking dull totems allow survivors to block a hook for 60 seconds or maybe breaking a dull totem protects the survivor from missing skill checks. Something to give an actual reason to bother, however currently there is not. This mainly due to killers complaining anything survivors is get is unfair.
Obviously hook tunnelling was sarcastic. complaining about people doing the objective and paying the game is just... not smart.
Breaking dull totems become more meaningful when NOED is in play, which is why it should definitely be buffed, or even being made basekit.
"Obviously hook tunnelling was sarcastic. complaining about people doing the objective and paying the game is just... not smart." You'd think so and I agree with you 100%, but there are plenty of survivors that unironically whine about killers "tunnelling" them. People aren't as smart as you and I, I guess.

Because it is? Dull totems are optional and offer little reward and with no way of knowing how many totems are on the map (not counting small game) its a massive waste of time? Imagine telling people in 2016 that by 2022 killers don't want survivors doing their objective. I know that hex totems exist, but 1 you are assuming that a killer has to be running both corupt and a hex totem to justify how corupt works and 2 this does not change my point at all. Do you really think, if I see a hex totem I ignore it? Of course not While I focus on hiding if I see a hex totem I cleanse it, there is simply no need to run as it only serves give away your position.
also gen tunnelling? Are you serious? You don't even want a match. I promise you I will stop gen tunnelling if you agree to stop hook rushing. Its really annoying when I'm trying to escape and the killer keeps hook rushing, instead of standing there and letting me get my free win.
I don't understand, you say "Because pressing m1 on gens is the only thing a survivor can do" and then list a ton of things that you yourself do besides gen tunnelling right after.
Also I was under the impression that survivors liked hook rushing and despised getting slugged. Why is being left to bleed on the ground better than just getting hooked right away? I suppose there's unbreakable but still.

Your experience is not the same as the average considering Spine Chill is consistently listed as one of the most used survivor perks.

The best counter to corupt is to go to the basement and wait it out. Blocking 3 generators for 3 minutes, all on one side of the map allows for the killer to have easy map control at the start. Doing generators is not smart as the distance the killer has to cover is considerably less then what it should be. It is is simply not smart to do generators while corupt is up. Lets say most survivors realised this and adopt this strategy. Does that sound like a fun game? Every match is simply the first 3 minutes of nothing happening? Maybe a killer can find a survivor but with no idea where they spawned it is simply unlikely. I do not think this sounds fun? So no, the original post does not have an issue with its strength, but with how boring it is to against.
Why are you acting like pressing m1 on gens are the only things a survivor can do? Maybe people should stop with the gen tunneling once and for all.

So how about this? Instead of you arguing for a balance state where the survivors have to treat the game as a knife fight while the killer has a back-up gun, why not argue for both sides to get nerfed into only using knives?
IE: Kneecap tunnelling and camping, nerf gen speeds.
Because with BHVR's track record it's quite safe to assume they'd kneecap camping and tunnelling while buffing gen speeds.

Even if they wanted to (which I don’t think they do) how would you propose they actually police this?
Just assume every premade is using comms and give them base nerfs accordingly (like -x% repair/healing/etc speed).

As a survivor I am seeing it more and more. Half the time its used w/ nemesis' perk that shows you all survivors which, while frustrating, makes the start of the game have meaning. The other half is just to give the killer more time. As a survivor though... its just boring. You see that you cant do gens and either find a totem to bless or hide in a locker (or somewhere else) and wait. It may as well be an extra few minutes onto the lobby w/ the off chance that you die.
I understand where they are coming from with the mechanic and what its meant to do, but its just boring to play against, not frustrating or annoying, not broken, just boring
Whenever a survivor says "X is boring" they actually mean "X is strong and stops me from getting the easy win I think I'm entitled to".

But Spine Chill is literally a non-issue. If this thread were about a perk like CoH, practically everyone would be in agreement that the devs need to do something about it. But instead, this thread consists of people complaining about a perk that is hard countered by moving the camera a few degrees to the side.
If it were a non-issue then it wouldn't be so popular now would it? You wanna know what a "non issue" is? Monstrous Shrine or Buckle Up. You don't see anybody using those, but you see plenty of people using spine chill.

"tunneling gens" breh that's the survivor's objective...
No, the survivor's objective is to survive. By that token a killer can't tunnel either since killing survivors is the killer's objective.

But alternatively, if the survivors decide to 'do bones', the killer can just opt to facecamp or tunnel to practically guarantee the win.
But I take it that that is your balance goal. Killer wins by default, but if they're in a good mood, they might just opt to have fun and give the survivors a chance.
Again, totes not biased or anything.
And if you gen tunnel you guarantee that the only way for the killer to win is to tunnel and camp in turn.

As far as I can remember, before Spirit/stridor got nerfed, there was many post saying she needs nerfs and such, but many said just use iron will to counter her (yes you could use stridor but that's not the point)
And for some reasons, survivors or at least those talking about it, weren't happy with this idea and didn't like the idea of needed 1 perk to counter a killer, you shouldn't require a perk to counter a killer! they said.
BUT
For some reasons, Spine chill, which reveals the killer is heading towards you, before you hear the TR, and even if they are a stealth killer, who are undetectable, which totally remove any stealth capabilities and let survivors hide before the killer even gets close to the survivors.
Is totally fine, it's totally fine to have 1 perk which will reveal ANY killer is heading towards you in a 36M range, but 1 perk to counter Spirit's power totally wasn't fair.
I ######### hate survivors logic.
Behaviour thinks that they can completely ignore complaints of one side while bending over backwards to the whims of the other without any consequence. Then they wonder why survivor queues are taking so long and why the game is bleeding players left and right.
-
@Firellius said:

How does it do that, exactly? Because NOED is considerably stronger if the killer camps or tunnels, since it gives survivors less time to prepare for it.
Because if a killer isn't being gen-tunneled every match than he has the option to go for more fun and engaging playstyles other than tunnelling and camping. And the more common NOED is, the more likely it will be that the survivors will stop tunneling gens and go do bones in order to prevent NOED from triggering.

If a killer is camping a totem then he's giving the survivors a free hand to do gens. So I assume there aren't many of them outside new-guy mmr.

I'm suggesting that one totem cleansed per survivor (plus an extra) is an ideal situation that will not always happen, especially in a solo queue game.
If it doesn~t happen, then they~ll have to deal with NOED. It's not unreasonable to expect people to adapt.
-
@pseudechis said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2858353#Comment_2858353
You are basically creating NOED auto boon which really would just be OP.
NOED is strong but its an all in play, if it gets cleansed its gone but while you have it, its really powerful.
Its pretty well designed and relies on survivors to be concious of its potential every game.
Part of the problem with boons as a mechanic is they can just be constantly reset, no cooldown, no tokens just the time it takes to bless the totem. If they were weak and situational effects then sure no worries but COH is free boosted healing for everyone which really is just nuts. Doing the same thing to NOED with auto totem switching built in is just as nuts.
As a predominately killer player it would be great but from a game mechanics perspective it would just be broken and unfair.
A point I forgot on my last post: while making Undying NOED basekit might sound nuts, you need to keep this in mind: it will only be an issue if the survivors neglect doing bones. If they don't tunnel gens and do their bones, then NOED will not even come into play at all.
-
@pseudechis said:
Complaining about tunneling and camping doesn't invalidate peoples complaints about other effects.
Ruin and undying doesn't prevent tunneling and camping. In fact if they are still up after you burn one player out you get even more value out of them.
COH limits hit and run playstyles which means commiting to chases is ideal but that doesn't mean you have to commit to just one person, its possible to play around them and still focus on different survivors its just not as optimal.
Yes players who smash out gens get caught harder by NOED but that has nothing to do with camping and tunneling.
Discussions about mechanics are different from "I don't like this" because one is usually constructive and the other is just whiny BS. Whiny BS people are gonna whine about everything its what they do.
Just don't let whiny BS be the basis for changes to game mechanics because that isn't good game design wise.
Just because tunneling someone out is the best pressure you can apply as killer doesn't mean we need to punish tunneling, rather we need to make sure other strategies are just as or more optimal. In many cases they are not.
Each hook state takes 60 seconds, meaning it will take a person being camped two whole minutes to die. Are you honestly arguing that 3 people with a completely free hand to roam around the map since the killer is busy camping for will have a hard time locating and cleansing a lit totem within 2 minutes? In a boon meta where everyone and their grandmother have already most of the spawns memorized already? Nah, if you're camping, you're not going to get any milleage out of ruin.
The whole point of my post was to "make sure other strategies are just as or more optimal". Getting rid of CoH will make spreading damage and H&R viable again. Ruin being popular will activelly discourage camping since you don't get much milleage out of Ruin when you're camping. NOED discourages gen tunneling by the survivors which makes going for chases and 2 hooking everyone viable.

I agree I was just pointing out that the do bones argument is stupid and unhelpful because you are more likely to find noed on one of the 3 totems you spotted throughout the game than you are trying to search for the 1 totem you never saw while clearing others making that one the only option.
"Take note of bones" would be better advice than "do bones."
The obvious solution is to make it so that NOED has a built-in undying to it. It should keep jumping from null totem to null totem until all 5 are broken. I'd even go as far as to make this new NOED basekit.
That way tunneling gens will definitely be a thing of the past.
-
@pseudechis said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2858244#Comment_2858244
Do bones is a weak argument mainly because the best counter to NOED is not to clense totems but rather note their location and return to them if NOED procs.
Maybe clear the last one you find at most to cut down on number. Its rare I don't spot at least 3 a game while just moving around the map.
I'm starting to think people play like they drive, looking at the dashboard only, oblivious to what's around them.
You usually spot 3 totems just moving around the map, without looking for them.To cleanse all the totems, each survivor only needs to cleanse 1, and someone needs to cleanse an extra. Assuming you're an average player, that means each survivor has the chance of cleansing 3 totems, or 3x their quota. It's not at all unreasonable to expect them to cleanse all 5 of them through the course of the match if everyone helps.
-
@DoritoHead said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2858151#Comment_2858151
But that's in an ideal situation.
Let's say that the killer wins a chase, hooks a survivor, then finds another one using a tracking perk or just by chance.
Ideally, for the survivors:
-One is on hook
-At least one is coming for the rescue
-One is being chased by you
-One is on a generator.
To do bones, one survivor has to get off of their gen, which effectively grinds the game to a halt until they get back on it. For just one hex, this isn't a problem, especially because this won't always be how the game plays out. However, when you need to find and cleanse 5 totems for a perk you don't even know if the killer has or not, it becomes a problem. Not so much for an SWF, but almost impossible for a solo Q player to handle.
I personally don't think NOED is overpowered, however I still think that "do bones lol" is a weak argument to defend it.
There are only 5 totems per map. Are you saying that expecting each survivor to do a single bone (plus someone doing an extra) is asking too much? Considering how survivor sided the balance of this game already is? I don't believe this for a second.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2858172#Comment_2858172
What if you 'do bones' and the killer tunnels anyway, since it's apparently optimal?
Most people won't since the game is genuinely more fun for the killer as well when lots of chases happen. The fact that most killers still don't tunnel can camp in the current envinroment despite not doing so almost garantees that you will be tbagged and bmed at the exit gates is evidence that most killers tend to avoid tunneling.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/314944/if-you-complain-about-camping-and-tunneling
But the number one advice for punishing tunnelling and specifically camping is to crunch gens as fast as possible, so how can I 'do bones' while also counterplaying tunnelling/camping?
Tunneling is ecouraged when gens go by too fast. When you simply don't have time to search for/chase other people, your only reasonable approach is to tunnel someone out since there is no better gen slowdown than forcing a 1v3. When survivors are forced to slow down on the gens to do bones, it becomes viable for killers to spread hooks.
So if you don't like tunneling, then encourage NOED since NOED forces survivors to stop tunneling gens.
-
@ThatOneDemoPlayer said:
People are allowed to complain about tunneling and camping. They're not fun for the Survivor/s.
Complaining about them from a balance perspective is different
I'm not saying they can't complain, I'm saying that if they complain about tunneling and camping then they better not complain about the things that prevent camping such as Ruin. Otherwise it's like complaining about the number of traffic accidents while also complaining against DUI laws.

There's absolutely no way that looping is unintentional. It might have been so in the early days of the game, but now it's absolutely how the game's meant to be played.
Believe it or not this game used to be a horror game not a tag simmulator. Survivors we meant to actually fear encountering the killer and had to hide and scurry instead of killers being the party clown/stage hazard that they are now.
-
@DoritoHead said:
Saying NOED is only available if survivors "tunnel" gens is just like saying that killing survivors at all is tunneling.
Noed is only available if survivors neglected to do their secondary objective. If they didn't tunnel gens and each survivor did 1 totem (and one did 2) before doing all 5 gens, then NOED would be denied to the killer.

Dead Hard should be turned into a feature of No Mither and the perk rewored into another exhaustion perk. It would solve both the DH oversuse and make No Mither a valid choice.
There, fixed your game!
