I'm really eager to see how this plays out. I play on PS4, so fortunately I'll have to chance to read feedback from players on platforms already using dedicated servers. Please share your experiences and opinions!
I'm conflicted by the idea of it. I really like the design of the penalty system: escalating penalties for repeated disconnects, penalizing a whole group to which one timed-out player belong, etc.
But the predictable effect of this new feature is that now we'll have endure the gameplay causes of disconnects. Sometimes a disconnect feels like the right or only solution to a problem.
Hex: No Escape from Trolls.

I respect Legion for his/her/their/its gender fluidity. Finally, a killer we can all relate to.

This is alarming. I just started playing a couple weeks ago and I've been studying tutorial videos and my own terrible gameplay to get better in chases. Of course in many cases it's clear why I get hit by the killer because I'm just bad and I make poor decisions or poorly executed actions. But in other cases I'm baffled because I feel like I do the right thing and get hit anyway. I guess this discussion vindicates that. My point is that it's not just red rank players who are justifiably upset about server problems. It makes it really hard for new players to improve.

I'd like a technical explanation from the devs. Not just a fix that keeps us guessing about what works, what kinda works, and what works unreliably. Just explain the problem, give data on the consequences, present various approaches to a solution with respective pros and cons, then commit to one and put it on a timeline that extends to post-implementation analysis and corrections. Transparency makes it easier to endure and gives players hope. People quit playing if they have no reasonable expectation of progress. I always wonder why communication is so bad with game devs. Most problems in life are half-solved by owning up to them and making sure everyone affected is on the same page.

Yes this is very frustrating. Ruins a lot of matches. To the point of absurdity, now hooked survivors are refusing to run once unsafely unhooked just to spite their farmer teammates. My solution has been to quit play with randoms. Not a good solution, but the challenges have made gameplay so bad that it's not worth enduring.

Sounds good to me

I'm still learning to play killer but I just bought the Pig and she is so much fun, I love sneaking up on survivors at gens and ambushing them from like 15 meters away.

As a professional hex hunter. 😅 I would encourage you to not use Small Game.
Instead, try running Detective’s Hunch. This not only reveals an exact location of every totem for 10 seconds, but as a new player it will also give you an idea of where they normally spawn in that specific map, helping you get more comfortable with the map to a point you won’t even need the perk in the future.
BBQ n Chili is a very powerful perk. To add to what others have suggested if you’re already working on an objective, look around and spot a locker nearby, this way you can deny the aura reading when BBQ procs.
Hopefully these tips help. :-)
That's an interesting suggestion. I use Small Game sometimes to find totems, but it's not always effective. I actually think the lowest level of Small Game is better because it doesn't spam alerts until you're close enough to find the totem. That said, I haven't unlocked Tapp's perks yet. In fact I don't think I've seen a player use any of his perks yet. I'm intrigued by the idea that Detective's Hunch might work better for this purpose. Thanks for the suggestion.

I sympathize with your frustration. I bet your experience is close to universal for new players. I just started playing a couple weeks ago, and I became very frustrated with exactly these same two killer perks in particular. But listen to the folks who responded: These perks can be effectively countered, and they exist for good reasons.
I don't think the problem is the perks themselves. However, the fact that the same couple perks are used by maybe 90% of killers (at least for mid-level players, not sure what more experienced/skilled players do) and then another few perks are used by maybe 75% of killers, does seem to undercut the complexity and intention of the perk system as a whole.
I get the merits of BBQ and Ruin, but in a game that depends so heavily on a perk system and a progression system to generate innovative constraints of strategic gameplay, I think creativity of unique builds should be the standard. Otherwise each trial begins to feel like a mere repetition of the same.

The wording on some of these challenges is very ambiguous. On a few of them, I was surprised to discover that I had successfully completed a challenge not knowing what I had done to complete them. In one or two other cases, I was sure that I had completed them, but then found out I had not.
Is the ambiguity intentional? If so, that's kind of lame. Criteria should be clearly stated.
That said, I have to say in general that the challenges are really fun. Some of them seem like they will be very hard to complete, but they wind up being easy. The opposite is true as well.

OMG I would love to play Ripley! I'd pour all my bloodpoints into prestiging her asap.
Re: the alien..... They mostly come out at night. Mostly.
I think Pyramid Head from Silent Hill would be great too. But the devs surely have a long list of great suggestions already.

I'm sympathetic to your frustrations. I only started playing two weeks ago. I play with friends almost always, and we get slaughtered most of the time.
But I also understand the perspective of people who think the balance is fine. I watch experienced players on YouTube who run circles around the killer and it gives me encouragement when I realize that I just suck as survivor.
It's just really hard to generalize from experience to the whole player base. I totally get it, though. I usually quit playing not when I have to leave, but because I get frustrated. But then tomorrow comes and I can't wait to play again!

Ghost Face is scary, he's always looking at me, it makes me super nervous.

The plague is always barfing on me and it makes me start barfing and then everyone is barfing and it's basically a puke fest.

I just started playing this wonderful game like two weeks ago. Disconnects happen a lot, but not just because people rage quit. I play with a friend who gets disconnected due to some kind of server problem. It's not his internet or any other technical problem on his side. I'm all for harsher penalties for people who choose to disconnect from a trial, but the penalty shouldn't be applied to people who are booted because the servers suck.
Maybe this goes without saying. If so, apologies for that.

It's hard to generalize from your own experience to the whole player base. I mean, duh, right? I just mention this because I play with friends almost every match and I would guess that we all die about 30% of the time and we all live only about 10% of the time. In other words, the idea that SWF puts the killer at a significant disadvantage just isn't consistent with my experience. Now, here's the composition of my group of friends: One guy has been playing for a while, so he's at rank 8 or 9, I believe. The rest of us are much lower, around 13 or 14. That seems to have the effect that we get killers who are around rank 8 or 9, so maybe the fact that one friend is higher rank than the rest of us explains why we get killers who are much better than the rest of my friends, me included. But my point is simply that I would never have thought that killers feel they are at a disadvantage. Running more or less the same perks 90% of the time - Ruin, No Escape from Death, Barbeque, and then either Haunted Ground or Discordance (more variation on the fourth perk) - seems to put the killer at a very strong advantage. I can see how this would be different for more experienced and more skilled players who can more easily counter these perks, but since most players haven't unlocked many survivor perks yet, it's a struggle.

Im at rank 10. At rank 10 and higher, Ruin is often but not always truly ruinous of gameplay. I just finished playing six trials with friends. In all six matches, the killers used Ruin, plus a mix of the other few perks that mid-rank killers use: barbeque, haunted ground, no ED, etc. That's pretty typical.
The complexity of the perk system is a beautiful thing, but it's undercut by a few perks that get used disproportionately and that tend to compromise gameplay. In short, it's boring and predictable. Exactly what this game can't afford to be.
Creativity of builds as a basis for strategic gameplay is the standard that should be rewarded by the perk system. Right now, there is no incentive for mid-rank killers to be smart or interesting.
Obviously I'm not talking about the red ranked players who don't need to rely on a few OP perks to rock it as killers. I wish I was that good. I hope one day I will be. Til then, average players like me have little opportunity to evolve beyond the narrow and BORING constraints of a few perks that hollow out the strategic aspect of this beautiful game.

Every match is different. Before I started playing this game - I am a newb to be clear - a common complaint I heard is that the gameplay is too repetitive. That's true in the sense that all you do is repair gens, which involves holding down a button. But this criticism totally obscures the dynamics of gameplay, which are never fully known at the start of a match either to the survivors or the killer. That is just so brilliant, and it keeps me on the edge of my seat. I love it.

I just started playing this with friends who have been playing for a long time. What I love about it is that survivors are properly incentivized to work together - even if that means making selfish decisions at the expense of another survivor - as opposed to the constant trolling and colluding that occurs in F13. I love F13 but the player base is so bad that you can spend a couple hours playing it, even with friends, and not get a single legitimate match. I know that there are exploits and annoying behaviors in DbD as well, but in comparison, this game is super clean. (Although the servers are atrocious.) I love it though. I absolutely suck and I get killed left and right but it's still a lot of fun.
