  • Honestly, just make the Boon Totem affect only the Survivor who places it. The perks will still be insanely strong and will now actually require thought from both sides, it'll even affect other Survivors indirectly by giving them the strategic choice between regular play while injured, healing themselves slower or heading towards the Boon Guy for speedy heals (in this theoretical situation they'd be given a way to identify the person getting buffs or the general area at least)

As it stands, it's just a "place to get free strong perks/items" button for Survivors and a waste of time for Killers. Such a boring idea.

  • Well, it's nice to hear it sometimes happens at least. I'm gonna go do all the gens to help my own team and then throw myself at Killers to make them feel better now, maybe I'll start a trend.

  • The REAL three types of Killers.

    1. The tryhard who only runs the meta and employs "toxic" tactics to secure a 4K. Will smack you on hook unprovoked, teabag as Ghostface and leave the last Survivors crawling for the entirely of the Endgame Collapse.

    2. The regular Killer player who starts off playing fairly, but is quickly forced into camping and tunneling by the Survivor side's actions. Will only Smack you on hook if that Survivor teabagged them unprovoked in the chase before, only teabags as Ghostface if they're emoting with a friendly Survivor and gives the last Survivor hatch if they're feeling generous that game.

    3. Killers who lose and are bullied by Survivors into the first Killer type.

(This is also a joke, but one somewhat rooted in reality)

Exactly, honestly i play both sides boons arent too bad i can just step on it and even if they reboon it that means they are not on gens, maybe a good nerf would be either reduce range or reduce coh speed slightly other than that i think its fine if survivors wanna keep rebooning less people on gens

But even if that single lone Survivor isn't on a gen for the 14 seconds + time to find/walk back to a known Totem (assuming they don't spawn on top of a Dull Totem or the Killer's Hex), 3-4 are potentially repairing away without a care in the world while the Killer scrambles to find a Totem without any reliable methods like maps or whatnot to highlight them. The Killer wastes way more game time interacting with Boon Totems than the 4 Survivors combined do, even without knowing the game at all it's blatantly a net loss.

That's obviously an ideal scenario and even then it's still not a guaranteed loss for the Killer really, but on the Survivor's side it's a very minuscule amount of time investment with an enormous benefit (soon to be much bigger) for ALL party members when ONE Survivor spends that time. Meanwhile Killers have to make an enormous investment + trade off by forgoing map pressure nigh entirely and not getting any damage states/hooks to find a Boon Totem, as in literally the only two counters they have to the Survivors before the introduction of Boons.

I don't know what the solution is at all, but if their goal was to give Survivors another objective they failed so gloriously that it's genuinely not even funny anymore how little they seem to know about Killers. However if their goal was to promote the face camping and genuine tunneling playstyles only while restricting the Killer players to only like 1/4 of the roster, then they did a very good job at making the lower tier Killers feel much worse to play for no reason at all.

Thanks for reading. You can now ignore everything I said and call me stupid for voicing my opinion. Have a good day.

  • I doubt I'll stop playing entirely, at least not based on the recent changes. If they keep making the Killer role far more stressful and making changes to Killers based only on how Survivors feel about the way they play (Deathslinger, for a recent example) in the next few updates, then I'll probably stop.

For now I'm just going to play a lot less.

  • Probably a combination of the Killer role having a much Easier time raising MMR (so Killers leave the lower ranks quicker than Survivors/you) and Killers who have raised their MMR finally realising that playing Killer in the current meta is genuinely just torturing yourself for the Survivor's amusement.

It's likely the same reason why everyone is claiming to see more instant down, slugging, camping and tunneling Killers lately. The Killers essentially just had the amount of things to manage in a match double, for a role that already had no time to spare at all. It's just much less fun to play Killer nowadays.

This is why I'm very sorely tempted to get Plague even though I hate how she basically makes healing and stealth impossible. If Circle of Healing does see use... she'll probably be the only damage spread killer who still functions because she also spreads Broken.

    You hate Plague because she's...good?

  • Her best feature is her accessories, but honestly that's the only part I like. Maybe it's because I hyped myself up for a proper witch style survivor, gypsy woman/romanian survivor or at least a stage magician and instead we got a Pilgrim cosplayer who buys her clothes at Hot Topic, but I think they missed the mark badly this time.

She's no Jake or Quentin though, and she's something different than the billion Nea's running around in the same outfits.

  • Maybe you're just not giving yourself enough credit? Or conversely, giving Otz too much credit?

Nah, but for real. They explained this, there's a soft cap to MMR that the devs can change when needed. This soft cap is what higher MMR's will fall back to when there's not enough players to fill a higher tier match.

Currently Soft Cap is about 1900 apparently and OTz is probably some stupid number like 3000+ by now. So if Otz decides to play Killer and there aren't enough 3000+ MMR Survivors to fill his lobby, the game will attempt to match him with lower MMR's so that he doesn't have to wait 3 months for a match at his level. When more players start reaching their right MMR levels for their skill the devs will raise the Soft Cap as needed, this'll eventually make unfair matchups less likely (in theory).

That's the general idea at least, and most likely what's happening.

Is your first post in response to me?

    I am honored.

Certainly a good point, but I do think the devs want chases and not the stale meta of hit and run and get notified of where everyone is.

I believe they thought boons would give killers a reason to leave hooks and have survivors do totems, slowing gen rush.

But, of course, theory and application are two different things.

Indeed, you took my first time. It was originally going to be a bug report about sfx not playing 90+% of the time for Generators popping on Console since to my dismay there's no mention in the patch notes at all (even in the known issues section), but I haven't figured out why I can't post/reply n the Bugs section yet and I figured I'd wait until I actually get to play the new update myself after work so I can clarify better.

But yeah, I can definitely see your reasoning. I personally think it's more likely that they're just playing it safe like they've always done, but I actually hope you're correct honestly. I don't really enjoy scaring people off gens that much, a game where both sides are balanced around the chase/mindgame would be much more enjoyable for me.

To be clear I'm not saying he is op I'm just wondering why I'm running into so many who play the same way. I just want points not sit on hook for a while game after a long que

Probably just because Bubba is the feel good killer and that side of the game took a sizable hit this patch. Sometimes you just want to casually play the game without being bullied, and Leatherface stops a lot of annoying Survivor tactics while still being fun to play.

    Also,

    - Comes from the best Slasher film hands down.

    - Beloved community meme.

    - Reliably strong.

    - Fun power without too many arbitrary restrictions.

    - Can confirm downs instead of playing the Survivor Perk lottery (hint: you will never win this).

    - Is cute.

    - Is the goodest boy who only wants to protect his home.

It could also just be that Killer players want points too, or even that they simply want to remove a Survivor from the game quickly as is their entire objective and you just got unlucky being picked often enough to be annoyed.

I think they are trying to get away from the abandon chase meta through perk notifications.

    I. E. Tinkerer.

Make killers actually work to find survivors and win chases instead of free alerts.

Weird direction to take game balance in considering they're also simultaneously buffing the Survivor's ability to hide almost everything they do from the Killer in multiple ways without any strength reductions to compensate their buffs AND the fact that without those location perks many lower tier Killers are significantly less of a threat than they already are. Do you really think they want Killers to just wander aimlessly hoping to encounter the Survivor's without reliable sounds or scratch marks to go off? I doubt even they'd go that far.

This is probably just the devs playing it safe like usual, since they didn't want Boon Totems to be immediately discovered by the Loud Noise notifications. Now that doesn't excuse or justify the developer's actions here, I'm just supposing that they're being wary about new mechanics and it's likely not them actively looking for ways to nerf Killer perks.
